So my AT&T 8525 died around Christmas. I wanted to get a Touch Cruise, but the overseas inflated prices are KILLING me. So for the time being, I've gotten a Blackjack II and I'm waiting for the next big thing.
Yesterday, I went to an Apple store and played with an iPhone for about 15 minutes. The coolest things about it, IMHO...
1) The picture functionality - While turning the phone and watching the pic switch too is nice, and sliding between pics is excellent, what I REALLY like is spreading your fingers to zoom! That's amazing!!! Do any Win programs have that functionality?!?!?!?
2) The weather - Having the city, then the extended forcast is nice. But what I didn't realize before is you can add multiple cities and scroll between them with your figure... just like you can flip screen on a Touch! That was just sweet!
3) Google maps on my Blackjack II is nice, but Google Maps on a touchscreen phone just rules. And it feels so smooth on the iPhone, it's like it was MADE for it. Damn...
And I assume the video is smoother on the iPhone, especially watching YouTube videos... but I must admit I didn't try that.
If anyone knows of an app that lets you look at pictures like an iPhone... I'd LOVE to upgrade my old Sprint 6700 to WM6 and then use that phone to play with images until my figure falls off.

This is a multitouch screen thing, and no I don't believe there are any WM devices out with multitouch.

Uh...the version on the iPhone was made for it. There's a version for WM too that works just the same.
try the s2v program... (slide to view)... almost like the iphone picture app... this program is nice and its free... thanx to A_C for developing another great app... kudos....
there are tons upon tons of new photo viewing apps for WM, ever since the iPhone's release.
1)
S2V (Slide2View)
HTC Camera Album
PocketCM ImageViewer
PictureFlow
PocketCM "Even Nicer Flow Stuff" (no actual name, since it's a test)
2)tons upon tons of applications for weather, and many are skinnable. so although you probably can't get the slide, you can get some really great looking skins for apps like WeatherPanel. There's PhatPhinger, iPhone themes (looks like the iPhone's. no sliding, though), etc etc
3)Google Maps? Really? It's been out for ages for Palm and Windows Mobile. Shockingly to many, even before the iPhone came out.
http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html
There's even a maps application from Microsoft, Live Search, that is actually more fully featured than Google Maps, whether it's on WM or the iPhone. Just ignore that it's from Microsoft, it's actually a great app.

Any links to this app? Did a search here, as well as on Yahoo, but no dice.
i think i know why. it's because you're using yahoo instead of google
only kidding, to each his own. however, with google,
"slide to view" yields the correct result 6th
"slide2view" yields the correct result for the entire first page
and "s2v", yields 4th, 7th, & 8th
i'll give the benefit of the doubt, though, because "slide to view" doesn't show up anywhere when searching with yahoo or the Xda Search. you need that "2" in there, lol.

Beautiful Widgets is better imo.
Aparently its been pulled from the market following a complaint by HTC?? Just tried to find it and couldn't so had a google.

I just got Beautiful Widget yesterday and its lovely. Yes I had to pay 1.78 Euros for it but well worth it. Might be an alternative if you can't get yours working.
You may need to go to the fancy widget config screen and uncheck the location box at the top and then 'set location'
Will no longer be greyed out. Set ur location and it should work. Did for me neway . . . .

Can someone post a video of beautiful widget running on their x10? I want to buy it based on what everyone is saying but I don't know much about how it actually looks
To be fair its a bit pointless showing you any pics of it cos its soooo skin-able that it would take 100's of shots to show you.
Its 4 colums wide and two deep, you have large clock display, day, date temperature and picture of the weather. The clock can be either in its own box with background or a see thru one so it sits over your wall paper nicely (which is what I have got!) The clock font and colour is hugely changeable, you just download more skins to your phone - free once you've made the initial purchase. The weather pictures probably have a dozen different settings. The text colour for the day date bit is entirely your choice.
It is 'beautiful' and for under £2 its pretty darn cheap for what you get.

Thanks for the great description
But with the imminent update to 2.1, is there any point in getting it now? We can just use the weather live wallpaper
Imminent do you know something we dont? Lol. Hadn't thought about that, but I'm kind of bad at waiting for stuff when I decide I want it. Typical impatient woman!

Man it's like $2 wtf...people should help the dev community out more, it's a damn good app, so is Touiteur (LevelUp Studio as well)
i have an idea for a live wallpaper:
please feel free to make it/give suggestions
a whiteboard!
so, it would be a white background and you can just draw on it
it would be like a htc notes widget but for the whole home screens
what do you think?
AND it wouldnt use that much battery because it isnt very cpu intensive, doesnt use gps/camera/accelerometer/etc
+1. great idea!
LOL man you such a creative mind......best idea ever +10
it's a great idea, maybe it would be good to include a diffrent array n styles of boards too, like a blackboard and chalk, and a cork notice board, after you write something it could make it look like a paper note with a drawing pin in
I think it would be a better if this was a widget for an application of this type.
But, you had a great idea.
lol Nice action

yeah i like this idea, perhaps a live wallpaper option could be an image/wallpaper and the whiteboard marker colour
+1 to good idea
Only problem I could see is, how would you differentiate between drawing on the whiteboard and a gesture, say switching between home screens?
Like the above poster said, how would you differentiate between using the live wallpaper and simple command gestures?

You could use somthing simple like a double tap on the live wallpaper, this could bring up like a virtual pen or chalk, that would follow your finger as you draw, another double tap and the "pen" could disapear, and you would be free to use gestures, it would also be nice to wipe the screen (delete) with a shake like a etch-a-sketch

This would be great if you could share the whiteboard with others ie. the mrs etc.

C'mon guys we have a smartphone! this shoudn't be a problem.
we could use the idea mentioned above or:
Tap and hold with one finger and switch between homescreens with another finger.
we also could use the functionality of the pinch to zoom -like we have on the stock DHD to show all home screens- to do some other simple command gestures.
but right now our problem is a developer, and that is why we are here on XDA
The idea is an intuitive one. The problem of swiping from one screen to the next could easily be overcome with this solution:
Notice how, when you have a widget on one screen, you tend to hold it and "push" it to the left or right. The same idea could be applied here. If you wish to move to left or right, just drwg finger across to the edge of the screen. This should also used in effect with the application of another concept introduced by a member a few posts up. The Live Wallpaper should be a clean slate of any colour desired. Clicking on a widget that comes with the LWP activates the board/marker tool. While in this "mode" touching the menu button brings up a window offering an assortment of options, eg pen size, colour etc. When out of this mode, swiping left right is just like normal. Also, the "state" of the LWP and widget can be preserved/saved. One final idea that comes to my mind is that rotating the device sideways while in drawing mode, rotates the home screen. However, all widgets should disappear, leaving us with just the paper, in effect.
Last but not least, I believe the OP should learn and develop this himself. It is an opportunity to nurture and grow an idea, build upon it and continue to improve it. It will help pass the time, and broaden your knowledge database. And you can maintain this thread, ask people for ideas etc. It will be fun. I hope I put my point(s) across
gr8 idea +5
any results of it?
because I am going to create similar wlp
and I don't want to make double app for almost the same thing?
V.
Great idea
Only one person has requested it, but it seems a bit easy to do (in my dream land, at least). A Sense ROM with no Sense in it (except the camera, the camera is and will always remain awesome). Kinda for those who like the Sense camera, hate Sense, and doesn't wanna flash between AOSP and Sense every time they want to be speedy and take sexy pictures. Would anyone like it?
I would. Mainly using vf for the new sense camera.
And if you could get the hdr and burst feature working, it would be pudding on the cake.
Love aosp but camera is just inferior

When i bought my phone. I bought it as a phone first, a PDA second and a camera last. If i want to snap shots i'll use my DSLR or my Pocket PHD camera.

Browser ... I use Opera.
Mail ... I use Gmail.
Dialer ... HTC's is a bit better then Motorola's.

Of course people would like it. The problem is, the there's a lot of backbone behind the all those sense apps/widgets that make them work. You would need the entire sense framework just to have that spiffy camera, and that means you'd have a sense ROM. It's not simply a matter of copying the camera.apk from one to the other.

That, I know already, but lots of people don't want to go around repeatedly changing their ROM, or deleting all the things for them. This would just be like a light Sense.

My contention is that "light Sense" (as you call it) doesn't really exist, it's just Sense. Even if you didn't include any other apps/widgets that require it, you still have the entire Sense framework under the hood. That's like swapping out the entire engine just so you can mod the headlights. There's no way to do that without altering the behavior of the entire car.
Granted, I don't have the same depth of understanding as ROM builders, but this is the impression I get about it.
One of the software features that isn't getting much press but one that I'm hugely looking forward to is the ability to hide the On Screen Nav Buttons on an app by app basis.
I've never been 100% behind Google's decision to advocate the On Screen Nav Buttons. A huge waste of screen real estate sitting there doing nothing while you read/play etc. The expectation was that developers would choose to hide them when they weren't needed but that never really happened. Some developers got behind the idea (thanks!) but even Google has inconsistent behavior when dealing with them.
Now we can choose to display them or not on an app by app basis. A swipe up from the bottom of the screen displays them again.
There are a number of delightful touches like this one on the G3.
Great work LG.

I agree. Even though it's easy enough to root the phone and force immersive mode, I applaud LG for implementing something that should be on every applicable Android phone, yet isn't. I'm very much looking forward to the phone becoming available, whenever that may be.
Though a nice effort by LG, there are a lot of games that use up motions for movement. Anyone into game emulators will especially have issues. Not to mention not all apps work with it, including web browsers.
I prefer my S4 having buttons at the bottom. The irony is the G3 5.5" display is the same size as the 5" display S4 for some apps and navigation.
Still, LGs effort is MUCH better than nothing.

Browsers do work with it. I say 'browsers' but I can only confirm Chrome and the stock browser.
In the instances that it might cause a problem for things like emulators then just don't include them in the list. It's an opt-in feature on an app per app basis. Best of both worlds really.

seems to work perfectly with chrome and stock browser and pretty much any app that i select on my phone. I have to say LG really listens to people and implement their suggestions on their devices. I hate wasting screen real estate especially when i'm playing games or watching a video in an app that can't force the nav bar to minimize. LG solved this problem.
not all apps, I guess

I do not think this cool feature will work on all apps.
This sounds a very good feature and something that everyone should be doing, the thing is though I haven't seen this mentioned in any reviews I've seen or read and that's quite alot! As mentioned I'd prefer hard buttons ala Samsung phones but because they've dropped FM Radio I wont be buying one of those any time soon.
Does anyone know if there's the one handed mode from the G Pro 2 that shrinks the whole screen down to a size of your choice? Again was featured and mentioned in G Pro 2 reviews but is not something I've heard about on the G3

It's a shame there is no pie like control system in the stock rom but it's a lot better than other stock roms where you can do absolutely nothing with the on screen buttons.
It's nice to use for certain apps such as a news app or game where you don't need buttons. Other then that out doors get annoying to swipe up, but I'm glad LG included it.
