Anyone have problems connnecting to gtalk? It takes countless retries and forever to connect to gtalk after a phone call, switch to and from 4G, and switch to and from wifi. I know it takes some time to connect to the server through a different connection etc. but everything else works (market, gmail, maps, anything that requires internet). It sometimes take up to 2 minutes to connect to gtalk. I've tried stopping and restarting the service and nothing. This is a real problem for me because 95% of my texting is through gtalk and it's annoying to have to wait so long after I switch to wifi, 4G, or receive a call. People on Verizon don't seem to suffer from this even though they use CDMA too. Gtalk connects almost instantly.

I have the same issue, no idea what the problem is and no luck with responses it seems
I think this is something on googles side.
My gtalk will sometimes refuse to connect no matter how many times I restart it.
If you close the application and restart it, it might help, but otherwise just give it some time and try to sign in.
posted from a EPIC4G.
YES!! mine has the same problem..... hate it... it's so inconvenient for me..
it better be fixed soon.
I switched from the EVO a week or so ago. I never had ANY issues with gtalk on either CM6 or stock sense. On the Epic I'm noticing some weirdness. I haven't had any issues as far as connecting taking a long time, but I do notice that I'm getting random disconnects. I think it may have something to do with us still being on 2.1. That's just a guess though.
The gtalk service seems to be rather flakey. I'm not sure what's the cause, but I just sign out and sign back in until it works.

Even with auto-sync turned off, you have probably noticed that google contacts
keeps syncing on an irregular basis. It's not supposed to do this and for some reason when it does it slows down the phone BIG time.
In my experience, the only time I lose the audio (phone slows, audio goes, have to reboot) is when the google contacts are trying to sync.
If you aren't on a call when the contacts sync, the phone slows and recovers fine on its own. If you are on a call...curtains.
If the google sync issue is corrected...the problem may go away. I have no idea how to attempt to do this but I really think these issues could be tied together.

Just one problem with that statement...when on a call, EVDO (all data) drops out, meaning sync isnt possible. However, could it be possible that those experiencing issues have a problem with data continuing while on a call wrecking havoc? Just an idea. Have yet to experience this yet and hopefully wont.
hmmmm interesting
ive too also have been dealing with the audio issues, my thing is it doesnt do it all the time, my phone sometimes does have a google sync issue at times, where it kind of hangs, i too have noticed that when i loose audio my sync is connected, but when its completely off theres no probs, meaning i never have to retart phone. idk im beat once my sync is done when i flash a rom i completely turn it off and i un check always on mobile in settings, and my audio issues went away................
im not sure if this is what you guys are talking about, but ive been having an issue that is driving me insane. I can make and receive calls fine, however no sound is transmitted to either party (my mic and speaker don't work). The only thing that fixes it is a restart, then its usually only the first one or two calls after the restart that work fine, after that its lights out again. always on mobile is unchecked, contacts/mail/calendar are set to manual sync and nothing else really pulls data without me initiating it.
Ive been on with Sprint all week about it and they are sending me a replacement and credited me back the past month, so we'll see if its a ROM or a hardware thing cause the second the replacement comes in its getting rooted and flashed
I have flashed Fipz' 2.0d on my phone, my co-worker's, and my wife's. The first two phones have worked just fine, from the first boot, however, after flashing it several times, my wife's hero continues to lose audio. I have even tried the update.zip that was supposed to help it.
The only differences that I can account for is that I rooted and flashed the two working ones on a Windows computer at work, and my wife's I rooted and flashed at home in Ubuntu.
It doesn't seem likely to me that I did anything different, (other than the required differences in the code when rooting) on my wife's phone than I did on the other two.
After 3 wipes, SD Format and re-partitions, and reconfiguring her phone, it still gets that audio issue. The longest it has lasted without doing it is about 6 hours.
I have absolutely no clue what could be causing this lol

To complicate things, I'm on a mac and have flashed MatrixROM. So, it looks like nobody is safe...Ubuntu, Windows and Mac. I noticed someone had posted a possible fix a little bit ago. I may give that a shot as it's incredibly frustrating. I wish there was a way to send all calls to voicemail, cause its pointless to have them connect through right now.
hopefully anyone who wants to test the new fix has. if not please do. its on the thread i started and it uses a variation of "fixes". as stated before, we know what causes it but not really sure how to fix it. im working with a very good dev to create a kernel and ramdisk to fix it with everything working.
wifi doesnt work with the fix as of right now. but anyways hope it helps.
Forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place but this is all very new to me. I recently flashed my phone to 2.2 and some strange things have been happening. I have two examples I would like to share which both have the same outcome. Trying to import a book into aldiko from the sd card ends in the program being force closed. The phone vibrates once, pauses a few seconds, vibrates three times and then the error message comes up. The second example is pretty much the exact same except it happens when trying to launch a game with psx4droid. One vibration, pause, three vibrations, program closes. Both of these programs worked without issue prior to the change in OS. Could anyone suggest any reasons and solutions to the situation? I was on the last chapter of an amazing book. Thanks in advance,
Gino.

I dis one factory reset with no result.should I just keep trying til it goes away?

This has been happening to myself and my partner's Samsung Galaxy S since we upgraded to the official UK Froyo update. Just about any app can crash with the vibrate, pause, 3 vibrates. While mine is rooted with z4root and I have a ton of stuff on it, my partner's is not rooted and only runs some very basic apps.
Did you update through Kies? What version of FroYo are you on?
Try to uninstall the apps, download them and reinstall. Also, using the Kies Registry Patcher, see if Kies will flash the stock 2.2 ROM. All stock ROMs can be found here.
Follow these steps

Updated with Kies to Froyo (JPO) a month or two ago. I notice JPY is now available through Kies so currently trying that.
I had tried installing/uninstalling apps previously, but according to logcat just about any process can crash with this vibrate pulse, pause, three pulses issue. I've had System, acore, TWL, Market, Gmail, the browser (stock and Dolphin HD), etc. These aren't the normal force closes either. The logs show them as SIGBUS or SIGILL (no K, not SIGKILL) errors, which normally mean a hardware fault, but, given so many people are having the problem after updating to FroYo, and given it's happening on two phones I'm in possession of personally, I'm sure it's related to the FroYo update.
Well, since updating to JPY 6 hours ago I've had zero crashes and the phone seems far more responsive and faster. My quadrant score has increased by around 20%.
There were a number of things that would nearly always crash the phone in the way I described previously - such as updating more than 2 or 3 apps at the same time, rapidly scrolling around certain websites, etc. I updated 10 apps simultaneously, I've gone to all of the websites that would crash the browser, and tried a whole load of other things that were "high risk" on JPO. Zero crashes.
If the phone does crash in the next week or two I will come back and mention it here. But so far, it looks great.
We took a Froyo update and the phone is now no longer able to accept incoming calls or texts when ANY other web-using application is running, e.g. you open the Facebook app and leave it running in the background so you can get notifications from FB and you can't receive any calls or texts until you have shut down FB. You open a browser, you can't receive any calls or texts until you shut down the browser!
Not even sure how to report this as a problem because all the websites we are directed to seem to be FAQs for people who have never seen a phone before. Any recommendations so we can return to the use of phone calls? For the next week or so we have only pay as you surf mobile broadband and no Kies, which resticts things somewhat, but is there anything we can do right away? What about when we get back to a full net connection and Kies? Where do we even report this error, as everyone seems to be having a different type of error with this update, and we'd like to make sure they know about this one, a smartphone that doesn't receive phone calls unless you turn everything else off is a little pointless!
Incidentally, site designers, any chance you could put some text descriptions for your button images? I loaded this site with no pictures and it doesn't come up saying where the reply buttons and such are located like it does when you have alternative text. If people use screenreaders (e.g. blind people like many of my friends) they cannot navigate this site without these. Cheers!
I've tested this and it works fine for me.
Are you sure this isn't just the limitation that's present on ALL GSM networks whereby if you're on 2G (i.e. not WiFi or 3G) then you can only have either a data connection OR a voice call? 2G only supports one type of connection at a time. If you're using data and want to make/receive calls you must use either 3G or WiFi.
The phone is definitely showing 3G as the connection type, and we have two phones on the same network in the same room and only the Froyo one has this problem, which it has never had before. Even in areas where the connection type is showing as HSDPA (never get those letters in the correct order!) it is impossible to get any kind of incoming call when a web application is open. It also applies to applications which are open but not currently using data. Not sure if they use data in a background kind of a way, but if you open a browser and load e.g. Google and after it is fully loaded attempt to call that phone you still get the answerphone. You can only get a phone call if all apps which might potentially use a web connection are shut down. Renders every aspect of the phone useless because you have to shut off Facebook, all browsers, email, weather updates, news feeds... basically everything, just in case you might potentially receive a telephone call.
We had 2 T-mobile phones on Windows Mobile in this same room and neither of those has this problem either. The phones are 2x HTC TYTNII (Tmobile MDA Vario 3) and 1x HTC Wildfire with Android 2.1 which all work and one Samsung Galaxy S on Android 2.2 which worked (in terms of being able to get calls with web apps loaded) up until 2.2 was loaded.
Well, that's very strange. All I can say is that my SGS and my partner's SGS, both were running 2.2 for a couple of months, and now both running 2.2.1 have been fine. I tested both again just now and I can make/receive calls fine on both even while actively using the browser.
My wife and I both have the mt4g and have been experiencing intermittent data interruptions at home, where we have a strong "H" signal. It will happen on one phone, while the data continues to flow on the other phone, suggesting a phone issue vs a tower/connection issue.
Basically what happens, when doing something like downloading an app or playing slacker radio, the up/down arrows under the "H" become less solid/consistent and the download or slacker radio stops. When this happens, I've tried opening the web and am unable to get any websites to load (I get the kind of 'unavailable' error, as if I have no data connection). After like 2-10 minutes, things typically resume to normal.
Again, this will occur on one phone while the other continues to operate normally. Btw, got the phones on Friday afternoon and neither of us have received the 2.2.1 update. Any ideas on what the issue might be?
I've had that issue occasionally on every Android phone I've owned. It's never happened THAT often, so I've kinda dealt with it.
I am also having this "problem".
Sometimes I'm updating an app, others, while browsing the web.
I've had this happen once, but I rebooted and all was good again.

I have just started experiencing this issue recently too. I am gonna step out on a limb and say it may have something to do with the update because I never had this issue before it was pushed to me.
Edit: sorry went back and read your original post and saw that you didn't do the update- it is anyones guess then.

I had this issue on the second day, it seems to have vanished on it's own. I kept having to enable and disable "airplane mode" to get it back to working instead of rebooting.
My next plan was to toggle the network connection off/on when this happened and see if it cleared up the problem immediately (probably similar effect to toggling airplane mode). I actually just now got the update pushed, but it seemed like the data connection was stuck during the push (over 30 mins nothing was happening, and data download arrow not working, web not working, etc.). I rebooted and turned on wifi, and update was ready to install within a minute or so. I was hoping the update would fix the issue, but sounds like it persists at least for some. This happens far too frequently for my taste. I'm thinking about asking for replacement devices to at least rule-out defective units. I guess I'll see how it goes for the next day or two and report back.
I'm having the same issues with my G2, so I'm interested to see how this device is doing. I might consider switching.
I've still been having this problem, and it still seems to be occurring relatively frequently - like maybe every 15-30 minutes or so, and with it more likely to occur if I try to do multiple things at once (e.g., some combo of browse, download, slacker radio, etc.). Btw, this is happening on mobile data, not wifi...haven't really tested wifi much yet tbh.
I used widgetsoid to give myself a mobile data toggle to use when I had a problem. It seems like when the data connection gets locked up, tapping this toggle fixes the problem fairly quickly...but it is kind of annoying to have to tap this when it happens, and it's not always clear when there's a minor hiccup in the data vs a stall that's going to require me to 'reset' things.
Also, I noticed that the widetsoid mobile data toggle actually has the same effect whether you are toggling it 'off' or 'on'...either way, it turns off data momentarily, then the data indicator reappears and the data connection resumes. Anyone have a suggestion for something like widgetsoid that will actually toggle mobile data off and keep it off when in the off position?
If you use the sense launcher there is a network connection widget.

Keep in mind that the G2 and MT4G are the first two HSPA+ phones ever. There are bound to be some kinds in the network in the beginning, but I would bet they get ironed out quickly.
I looked around and could not find a thread about this.
I have a rooted fascinate with dl30 (froyo). Everything else is running fine.
But with Wifi on, my connection to the internet is fine until I stop using it. I have the wifi setting to never turn off.
But after about 5mins or so of leaving the phone alone my connection to the net seems to be lost. I will get no incoming emails, my connection to gtalk is halted. If I unlock the phone i can not pull up any webpages, gtalk is still disconnected and if i try to send an email it just sits there.
All of this remains that way until I turn wifi off and go to 3G. Then everything works again. If I turn wifi back on right after, everything works fine again and will continue to until I leave the phone alone for 5mins or so.
any thoughts?
If you have a thought but need more info from me feel free to ask.
Am I really the only one with this issue on this forum?
i just started getting this issue today.... i hope there is something that can be done.
I noticed it happening to me also. Very random though, only happens about once a day or less.
Same here.

Did it happen on 2.1? I am partly concerned because I ebayed the phone with 2.1 about 2 weeks ago. rooted, then installed froyo, so I didn't really get to see if it happened on 2.1, or if this is part of froyo. Was also concerned because a friend of mine, Nuance, also did the same thing, and came over to my house and had no wifi issues.
My phone constantly drops internet connection whether im on 4g or 3g. I had this issue ever since i went to DK28. I dont recall this problem on DI18. The problem still persists when I upgraded to eb13 (using samsung utility). The notification bar shows i have 3g or 4g signal but i can not load the market or youtube or webpages as i get a "connection failed retry error". this happens after using the 4g or 3g for 10 or 15 minutes. Can some one help me please?
Sorry to not post answer but o post that i am also having same issue... i am still on dk28 but recently i have started getting frequent connect failures on browser and email - errors webpage not available in browser and connection failed retry error in email
anyone know how to resolve???
I had it about once a day on DK28 but now on EB13 I have it fairly often and the only way I can usually guarantee I get connectivity back is if I reboot.
me too
Unfortunately I'm seeing this as well - more frequently in the last few days.
I initially did the "update" route (downloaded from Samsung) the first day it was available, but had so many issues with the phone I did a factory reset the following day.
Anyone of you try updating your profiles or prl?
Might be worth a shot. Issues like this is why I'm staying on 2.1.
tried that... didnt help
Even on Syndicate Frozen while not as often, any sort of data intensive usage will cause drops

This is really frustrating! Sometimes toggling airport mode/4G works but not always. Email/Web is basic functionality of the phone and without i fell my Epic is worthless!
I am still on Dk28 - got a new pc so I have to reinstall drivers/SDK etc not sure if its worth upgrading t EB13
