Heya,
I'm sure this topic has been discussed but I can't seem to find a clear answer. It's obvious that the HTC Hero is somewhat temperamental with certain makes and classes of Micro SD, or the assumed Class 6 isn't always as fast as people hope.
In my case the 2gb stock card is just going to be too small so I'm keen to purchase the biggest card the phone will support (which is 16gb?) or 8gb. Is there a card in particular which stands out as being the best (in terms of speed) for the HTC Hero at these sizes?
Thanks
i think the biggest possible micro sdhc card is 32gb, but i´m not sure and it was not worth to me so i bought a 16gb and it works perfect
Are there 32GB micro sd cards available?

find Sandisk 32GB micro SDHC is already available for pre-order, but no specific date of release.
I just bought a Sandisk 16GB micro sd (class 2), appears faster then the 2gb stock card.
Try to search some technical reviews of different SD card with statistics. Much better than relying on "CLASS".
Class is important
Hi, I would say that in a price/performance view you should go for a 8GB class 6 card right now. The class says how fast the card can transfer data. Class 2 does 2MB/s. Class 6 does 6MB/s.
32GB is the limit of the SDHC format. I have 8GB now and I guess I upgrade to 32GB later when prices get better.
for sandisk, class 2 = class 4, class 4 = class 6.
as i know, some class 2 is actually much faster than the standard minimum speed.
I have an 8 gig in my phone but its having trouble rescanning the card i have like 4 gigs of music on it and I think thats too much for the phone to scan, that would be my only thing to maybe consider.
Ps if anyone has a solution for my problem that would be great haha
Unless you despareately need to store A LOT of data on your phone get the fastest card rather than the largest.
8GB SanDisk Class 6 card is about £17.
16GB SanDisk Class 6 is nearly £50.
Prices will drop rapidly so for now I'd go for 8GB at 6MBPS over 16GB or 32GB at a lower speed.
Hi - Following on from this, has anyone used a 32GB card and proven it works. I'd hate to get one and find out that it's incompatible with the G2 Hero.
32GB microSD cards are out?!

The 16GB Class 6 you list doesn't seem like that much of a stretch to me, it is a wee bit over twice the price, but not ridciulously so (i.e 3x the price). It is the best MicroSDHC card that money can buy, and the transcend one I've got is nice and fast (pretty sure it was less than £50 too, now that I think about it).

Nup, no 32GB MicroSDHC cards as yet fellas, all the sites I've seen, list the Sandisk one for Pre-Order, but its been like that for 6 months, so maybe they're planning for a 2010 release?
Err is that spam?
any offical word or tests showing that a class 6 will work to its full speed... rumor I have heard is the hardware in the hero (us version) will utilize up to class 2 speeds.
(Not to say a class 6 wont work. just that it will only be reading and writing at class 2 speeds) Can anybody confirm?
I can maintain 6-7MB/s write speak to my 16GB Class 6 which is Class 6 speeds. Not as fast as I'd like (SD speeds), but worlds better than the Nokia N95 8GB I had before which was limited to 800-1000KB/s (only USB 2.0 full speed as opposed to hi speed).
qwiksand, is that from your hero or from a card reader?
I am trying to find the source now but cant rummage up my history; i swear i read an email from HTC saying the card reader in the Hero was a class 2 reader, thus nullifying any performance increase from a class 4 or 6 card.
hmm, you're making me doubt myself now!
I'll do a speed test today both in the phone, and out.

Likewise,I'm sure I read an official source saying that it would only make use of 16GB irrespective of the size of the card. Sounds more dubious but I'm not going to risk it with my own money!!
Any updates? Want to get one on black friday
As what i know G3 Hero only support up to 16gb sd/sdhc card.
As the class on those card are for writing speed & reading speed is all the same.
edit: i have found some news frm somewhere...
Good Morning Frank,
Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about what class of SD card to use in your Sprint HTC Hero. My name is A.J. and I will be happy to assist you today.
If you are looking to purchase an SD card that the device will read at its full native speed you will need to purchase a class 2. The device will read a class 4 but not at its native speeds.
Frank, if you have any future questions about your device please feel free to visit HTC - Touch Phone, PDA Phone, Smartphone, Mobile Computer and send us another e-mail. You may also enjoy HTC Smartphone Wiki - HTC, which has a plethora of information on HTC devices, including the Sprint HTC Hero! I would also like to invite you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey located at HTC Online Survey I hope you have a great day!

According to HTC's website the Hero can use SD 2.0, SD 2.0 is another way of saying SDHC, just like devices that are compatible with standard SD, the device is expandable to the limit of the format. Therefore, the Hero CAN do 32GB because it is SDHC compatible. Only problem is the 32GB Cards have yet to be mass produced.
i've read here and there about microSD card classes. i want to flash the latest cyanogen mod to be able to use apps2sd - so what class/type memory card should i buy?
The general consensus is that class 6 cards provide the best speeds with apps2sd roms. But then some ppl say they don't really notice a difference. Personally I use class 6 and can say that they work great.

.
You should buy an 8GB class 6 from A-data ! Their memory cards are superb compared to others. I have tried Kingston, Transcend and some other stuff but nothing can compare with A-data
go for an 8gb or 4gb class 6 sandisk.
They're hard to find but are the fastest around.
And you've actually heard of the name!
Always used the fast 4gb class 6 Sandisk one.
Use the cheapest class 6 of the size you want on Newegg.
Just wait for SanDisk's 32gb MicroSD, more space for more apps, music, and movies
I found that some SanDisk cards don't have the class number written on the cards.
What does it matter that the class number isnt on the card? Just look at the box when you buy it
using a class 4 PNY 8 gig card works fine with apps2sd.
im also looking to buy a class 6 16gb card. Plz tell me which one should i buy from www.newegg.ca
was thinking A-data or Ridata

Most plain blue Sandisk memory cards are class 2. It's not until you get into there ultra series will you get class 6 speeds. They don't mention it so it's easier to disguise products and not make it comparable to other brands.

newegg doesn't show the image of the box. I don't think they mention it on the box either but I need to get a hand on the box first.
Hi
Where can I buy 32GB microSD in Atlanta GA?
What Class of microSD is recommended for for HD2 running Android? is Class 2 enough?
Thanks
i don't recomend you to buy an MiicrSD 32GB....
Why? the max i see is class 2 ( low data transfers ) and if exist a class 4 or 6 will be expensive... over 200dollars or more... ( i guess )
You be OK with a micro sd HC of 16GB class 4 or class 6 ( i have one of class 6 and works GREAT! )
If you still whant an sd of 32GB please search on ebay, or other smartphone webs.
Excuse my bad english.
PD: The minimum recomended For me about the class, it's class 4, class 2 works like a ****...
i have a class 2 4gb and other 8gb, and works Slooooow.... but my 16gb class 6 works faster!!
A class 4 32GB microSD does indeed exist, but it's ~$160. And I still recommended having class 6, which does not exist in the 32GB size, yet. Just stick with your SD card and keep your money.

People are saying that we should use a Class 4 SD Card. Same ole BS, HTC puts in a Class 2 and then still ships out Class 2 as replacements. Figure that one out. I know $$$$$. LOL
I don't think you can even run Android with a 32Gb card. I've heard the best card for Android as far as battery consumption and speed, is Kingston 8Gb Class 4.

Android will run with a 32GB card but that's the most the OS can address.

Thanks for the replies.
My current microSD is 16GB Class 2 (Sandisk) and it is running Android with no issue at all on my HD2; so I think that a 32GB of the same Class (2) will not under perform. Since I want to try and compare between several Android builds, I need the space. I am going to be in Atlanta this week, that why I'm looking for a place where I can purchase a leget card. In the past was burnt twice when I purchesased "fake" SD cards via eBay.
Doses any one run Android on HD2 with Class 2 32GB and facing problems due to the card?
If you guys know of a leget place (e.g. Best Buy, etc.) that have the card in the Atlanta area, then please provide the location info.
Thanks again.
Check at a verizon wireless store. Here where I live they were running a promo, if you bought a droid x, you could purchase a 32gb micro at a discounted price.

wouldn't be easier and cheaper to buy a card online and just ship it overnight?
or, walk into a verizon store and they'll charge you plenty, but for a legit card
Hi all !
I'm looking for a new (other) SD card for my HTC HD2 with WP7 ROM, because now I have a 8GB Kingston Class4 and its performance is terrible.
WP Bench Free from Marketplace are showing me storage average write = 1,81MB/s
After every ROM flashing I have to spend about 30-40 minutes on "Installing Apps" and finally I can't watch any movie from storage or internet without freezes and stuck.
I'm thinking about SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC 4 or 8GB Class6. Does anybody have this card in HTC Leo with WP7? Is it work fine with WP7? Any advices about new SD card for HD2?

SD cards are hit or miss, what works for one may not work for others
in saying that I did several weeks of research on this brand and model
There are actually two versions of the ultra mobile card, a red and grey one, which is a class 6, and a black one which is class 4
Now, from my research, statistically you have a much higher chance of the 16GB class 4 working SDSDQY-016G-E11M is the product code, but this is not a "will work" post, it may do, and there is a good chance it will but then again it might not
I have a 32Gb Sandisk Mobile Ultra Class4 - never skipped a beat - best thing I ever bought for my phone. The only thing to beat that would be a 64Gb card
My research is only against 16GB cards, can't comment on other sizes, random access is the key here tho, so review as many sites as you can with a specific model number, yup sites in Japan too! Record all the random and sequential data you can find, take an average and use that as a basis to buy, its about as accurate as you can get on a subject that by its very nature is random

so you say that it is better to buy a SanDisk microSDHC Class4 than SanDisk microSDHC Class6...? I'm thinging about 8GB cards, so this is SDSDQ-008G-A11M and SDSDQY-008G-A11A

Micro SD cards.
Most Micro-SD cards are fairly close to 'identical', except when comparing them to speed of storage and quality of information exracted.
You should look for the HQ type, where you obtain the highest quality for your store MP3 and .jpg images and video.
Most newer cards are similar in capacity, so now you should look into storage quality of the media. the 'HQ' label indicates a 'higher level' of quality for media uploads/playback. and should also be identical for data storage/retreival also.
There are other formats of this type to look into if you are digging into the depths of how the information is stored/retreived, but then you are going to need to query the manufacturer about these deails, as they are not placed on the labels of the SD cards being currently sold.
There are cards for 'HQ', 'HS' and bulk storage, you only need to determine your actual needs, and how much you need the added 'quality', although many, including myself, would opt for the 'HQ' variety, just to be certain I get the best results from my stored data.
As always, your mileage may vary....YMMV.
Good luck hunting!
What you need to do is just lookup "microsd card benchmarks" and there should be a web site comparing a bunch of them.

I own a aSanDisk 32GB Extreme SDHC UHS 1 C10. It's very fast and I'm using it to store and run gaming apps.
There's also a 64GB Version of this card!
sd card
San disk is the best, however they are more expensive, you prob want something class 10, also i don't suggest buying from ebay only when buying sd card, because there is a scam going on right now with sd cards on ebay, also a little side note if you have a samsung devise then i would get a Samsung sd and so on.
Good

There is many types (or at least 2) of card shapes! So which one for android?
I have Neo N003 chinese phone.
Yeah don't get them on eBay. Every SD card I got from eBay had some sort of storage issue. Not recording the data and what not. I've got a Galaxy S4, and I just went out and bought the first Samsung 32gb micro SD class 10 card I could find. I do want to upgrade to the fastest 64gb one though soon.
