i recently read through practically ever HD2 android thread i could find on this site and after a bit of researching installing trial and error i managed to install a working android build on my phone (only functions not working as far as ive seen is wifi tethering)... After i realized it was working i called t mobile and had them switch me to an android plan however i cannot get data service anywhere when i do an H comes up and still cannot connect to facebook apps and things that require internet connection however on wifi everything works and even without wifi i can send calls and get texts sometimes... any help anyone could give me would be great and if you need to know the build or radio info ill google how to find it i guess
What version are you running?
I am running with Wi-fi tethering working and 3G/HSPA working fine. My version of Android does 95% of what I want in an Android phone. The only major features missing in the version I am running are:
Proximity detection(if you put your face to the phone it doesn't disable the touchscreen)
Compass - Don't use it
FM Radio - Don use it
Auto screen brightness control
It would be helpful to post details about your phone s/w (see my signature below for an example).
Like i said im noob a bit lol
My build the facial proximity works, and auto screen brightness as well compass.. i never tried though my GPS im not sure cuz like i said im having issues with the data service so i havent gotten a chance to check... and i would love to post my phone info but as good as i THOUGHT i was with electronics im very new to the phone end of it if you could tell me how id relle appreciate it
At least tell us what Android build you are using.
You know what build you downloaded, unzipped and put on SD card right?

Hi all,
Firstly, apologies for being a bit of a newb here, but this is my first ever PDA type phone, and im getting myself confused, and for no real reason it seems !
I've done a bit of searching around, and from what I can work out I am going to make a few assumptions
1 - I should be able to, without using my WLAN connection, browse the internet on my HTC3600 through internet explorer, using my Vodafone 3g or GPRS connection.
2 - there is a way to enable some random wizardry chip inside the phone to activate GPS, and if I was to install TomTom Satnav software, this would work with no extra dongles etc.
Now. if my assumptions are correct (and one should never assume anything) I would be greatly appreciated if someone could in easy to follow newbie freindly (as in, click on start, programs,) instructions as to how I would ...
1 - do what is required to get GPS working
2 - do what is required to get the 3g web browsing working.
Im sure this would be a useful sticky if you cna help me do this, but having a search round on the forum I havn't seen these instructions spelt out. Aware that whatever you tell me I do at my own risk etc, but would really appreciate some help here
cheers all

Usually I would say search and stop being a noob but I'll be nice today.

Correct, however you'll have to setup your internet settings for Vodafone, you can usually find these settings on vodafone's support website or by calling customer service.
2 - there is a way to enable some random wizardry chip inside the phone to activate GPS, and if I was to install TomTom Satnav software, this would work with no extra dongles etc.
If you have an older ROM loaded on your P3600 then yes you'll have to upgrade it to enable the GPS. You can check your ROM by going to start->settings->system->device information if it's 1.15, you'll need to upgrade it to get GPS, however if it says 1.23, your GPS should already be enabled. You may also want to look into upgrading your P3600 to WM6.

BTW, don't get too attached to this phone, the screen will probably stop responding in about a month and you'll have to send it in to get serviced.
Good luck.

Don't do anything apart from going to Start/Settings/System/Device Information and checking what is listed for Radio ROM. If it ends in **.**.11 it is GPS enabled. If not, as vanydotk says, you will need to update the Radio ROM.
Any GPS aware application (TomTom etc, etc) will automatically initiate the GPS receiver as needed, as long as the applications settings point to the correct GPS port (COM9) You don't need any additional hardware.

Make sure you have a 3G SIM card, and 3G is enabled on your account (it isn't always).
Use This Guide to manually configure the Vodafone settings (HTC did have an automatic file to do this, but it's been pulled from their site). Note there are different settings for contract and PAYG accounts.
Be very aware that mobile browsing can be very expensive. Before you do anything, make sure you buy a data bundle, or it may cost you up to £3 per MB of data.
Also a newbie and had spent some time reading the forum looking for answers... Can any experts clarify and/or confirm my question below? I know it s a very basic question for many here, but I would really appreciate it if someone can help me to get this working.
Do I have to have Mapping software installed on my Trinity in order for the GPS to work?
I go into the Camera mode by pressing the "shutter" button. Tap on the camera icon (upper left in landscape view) to enable GPS. However, nothing happens. Looks like it just keeps trying to start GPS.
The screen message reads: "Initializing GPS..."
What do I need to do to get the GPS working?
According to a previous post. My device came with the GPS enabled based on the ROM versions on my Trinity.
Some info:
I purchased my D810 in Hong Kong but I am using it now in Taipei.
The ROM info are as follows:
-ROM version: 1.23.707.6
-ROM date: 02/08/07
-Radio version: 1.35.00.11
-Protocol version: 32.68.7020.10H
OS 5.1.461 (Build 15671.3.3.0) Windows Mobile 5.0 with Messaging and Security Feature Pack. English version.
I am currently on a pre-paid phone service (FarEast Tone) so I do not have access to 3.5G, etc.
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi Everyone...
I got my son a US Cellular PPC6800 (Titan)... It has on it now :
Rom Version 2.17.573.0
Rom Date 7/1/08
Radio 1.69.00
Hardware Version 0003
PRI 1.31_027
After some reading here, it seems I need a diffrent radio to get the GPS to work... my issue is I spent all day yesterday setting up the phone for my son, just how he would like it... I would hate to have to re-do it all just ot enable the GPS... Could I just update the radio and keep the rest just how it is? or wouldnt; that work... I don;t even need the phone itself to work as a phone as I will be using it as a skype phone... I just need the WiFi, GPS, and bluetooth... Thank you in advance for you advice
No your rom or os is not compatible with a gps radio. You would have to install a custom rom and then a compatible gps radio to enable it. You will lose all settings and programs when do this change.
You'll have to flash a new radio and then a new rom, the one you currently have will have to be overwritten.

That guide should help you out. I have some more info here that you may find useful as well.

Hope this helps!
Thanks for your advice everyone... I got a new radio (3.35.04) and rom (RMcarrierlessTitanV1.1Light).. I was most like the standard 6.1 stockI was used to and had known good software for.. After doing LOTS of reading here, there, and everywhere today I was able to get the GPS to work as well with TomTom... Learning qPST was nice though.. I was easily able to change the banner to say "Skype" instead of US Cellular,Sprint, or any other carrier.. I thought that would be a nice touch as this will only be used as a Skype phone anyways...
The only other issue I am having, is when justhte phone is turned off it is reporting it isin airplane mode in certian programs (TomTom for example) and I have to turn on the phones radio to get it to work... Any suggestions? I am not putting it in aitplane mode.. and still have WiFi on at that point.. (although turning hte phone off sometimes effects that too it seems).. I am trying to get it to work well with the phone off to save battery as WiFi will be on most of the time it is in use... Thanks in advance..
Ok.. EVO 4g. New phone bought today. Managed to get it rooted and a custom rom installed(Damage control 3.2.3, updated via DCUpdater) on it that works splendidly other than for some reason I cant seem to activate the SD card anylonger. This could be a serious issue I guess.. haah!
But the main thing i was wanting out of this device tonight was wifi tethering. I have the app. it loads fine, I can adjust all setting (SSID/Passphrase etc) i even went as far as downgrading to the 2.0.2 version to see if that helped via the google.code page. But it still just gives me the stupid error that it is "Unable to start tethering"
I really don't know a way to start trouble shooting this as I am VERY new to android, and if someone can offer a bit of help I would be much appreciative.
I am more than willing to post any info you might need as far as the setup on the phone goes. Just let me know what that info is you would be looking for and I will get it.
And if anyone can shed a bit of light on why I cannot see the SD card anymore that would be delightful as well.
Thanks a bunch.

For the wifi tethering: if the custom rom has it, you may have to remove it completely and download wifi tether from the market, that should fix it.
I am having some major issues with the wifi on my slide. When I have the rooted software installed. I have tried both the stock cynogen 6.0.0 rom and the teamfenix version but still cannot get the wifi to work on my home network. I haven't found any other roms to try though.
fyi:
Works fine on stock rom
home network is open with no mac filtering or anything like that.
I also have heard that flashing the radio might help but I thought that was separate from the wifi and the antenna works fine. I also have no issues with a data connection through the network.
Also if someone could recommend a way of transferring the phone program from the sense rom to the root rom that would be great. (I like the way it gives you the number it thinks you are about to dial, makes calls more fluid actions)
So... ideas?

A few: The latest known radio for the slide is 7.09.35.10. If you have that you don't need to reflash it. CM 6.0 has a known issue with the wifi that you can fix by turning on bluetooth. You don't have to have bluetooth connect to anything, just have it on. I don't know why that works but it does. Or you can flash the latest nightly for the slide. You can find it through ROM Manager, but you'll need the paid version to do that, which is totally worth it, or find it in the cyanogenmod forum. However, if you go ahead and flash the nightly, beware that things may or may not work (although the last several I've run have been damn stable) and DO NOT POST BUGS IN THE BUG TRACKER!
Also, on a side note, bluetooth in call audio does not work. Meaning you can not talk on the phone through bluetooth. Stereo bluetooth works great though, so you can listen to music no problem.

Thanks for the heads-up on that, I just thought my bluetooth was being retarded.

If on CM6: Menu>settings>about phone then look at the baseband version. It's the last set of numbers. If on stock ROM it's the same sequence except after you go into "about phone" you need to go into "software information".

Where can I find the radio update? Can't find it on the HTC website or on here.
edit: actually - it seems to be working fine now for some screwed up reason. My roms seem to do that... if my phone is in a good mood when I do my nandroid restore, then it works even better than before (hey look that rymes). If not, then it says "F*** off and die, I'm not giving you internet you fascist SoB.". As you may understand my phone has major mood swings... I think it gets PMS.
The CM6 thread has a link to the latest radio I believe. Also, something that worked for me is under the WiFi Settings menu, press Menu > Advanced, and change Regulatory Channels to 14. I saw that posted in one of the CM65 threads and it worked for me.
I found something interesting out about my phone. Apparently those moods I talked about are just the wipe not working properly. If I wipe it 3-5 time beforehand everything seems to work better.
I can even get golden sun working on the gameboid which I had thought was too unstable to work (just that one game though not the whole program).

I take that back about golden sun... stupid unstable ass game......

Hi everyone,
First I'd like to thank those fearless tinkerers that produced (and explained the how-to) the Froyo upgrades for the Huawei s7-104.
I actually bought the device only AFTER downloading the Indonesian upgrade (that was-and still is-the extension of my faith in you).
The process worked like a charm and I successfully checked and confirmed that the new version matched the claimed upgrade.
I later managed to root the device and now even enjoy a longer battery life thanks to CPU Master set on "on demand".
The only problems I encountered were:
- Sometimes the screen orientation gets stuck in horizontal or vertical and the device needs to be rebooted to unlock the orientation. This is minor and doesn't bother me that much.
-I have lost 3G connectivity and neither the carrier nor a mobile lab has managed to get a shred of data into the device with anything but WiFi.
The Network pane says that it's connected and should receive data.
The APN settings should now be reviewed and corrected since I brought the device to the carrier's office and, after their failure to fix the problem, to the lab (they told me they did anyway).
The SIM was then taken out and connected into another device. It received data merrily, proving satisfactorily (at least to the C.Y.A. carrier) that they could not help me further.
Everything else works beautifully, phone, WiFi, GPS, everything...
Any idea? I live in Mexico and the carrier is Movistar.
Thank you in advance.
Thimage
screen orientation quick fix
can't comment on the 3G problem din really face it
you can try flashing to another rom
Zmey Mod from Belarus! would be a good choice
for screen orientation just install shake n rotate from the market
it's just a quick fix which can settle the problem
Thanks for the shake'n rotate tip! I'll try it!
Never heard of the zmey mod from Belarus. Is it in english or in local lenguage? I'll try to find it anyway.
Anybody out there who's actually had the same network connectivity problem that I've had? Can't be the only one right?
Thanks again,
Thimage
Connectivity recovered
I finally recovered connectivity by looking for the right APN on the web and I found it here:
decibel-elektrobeat.blogspot.com/2011/04/3g-de-movistar-configurado-en-xperia.html
The reason why it didn't work before is because for some reason it is not enough to correct the APN after flashing the Rom. You have to delete it and create a new one.
It works fine now.
Thanks. T
