My x10a deleted my music on its own wtf! - XPERIA X10 General

So just last night i decided to dl some new music via my phone as 3g started working again at my house. I used MusicJunk to dl roughly 20 mp3s.
As they finished i would listen to yhem in mixing. Played no prob. As i was dling quite a few at a time i was only awake for the firsgt four that finished. Fell asleep and let my phone do the rest. In the morning i woke up to all my finished dls. Mayb one or two outa the bunch didnt play so i deleted them. Then outa no where it just refuses to play any of the new songs that i had just listened too! So i swittched over to mediascape and proceeded to get the "invalid liscence" error and also wouldnt play them. Im baffled how could it work one second and then not just a few seconds later.
No task killers or anti virus running.
So i reboot to see if that helps and lo n behold all the tracks i could see but not play just a min ago are completely gone! No trace on my sdcard. Except mixing still has playlists with the song titles. They dnt work tho say file not found. Wtf happened? Did mediascape delete my songs? And if so. Wth!
Any thoughts anyone?

Happened to me before as well, but i have managed to attribute it to my SD card... tried to be stringy by getting one off of Ebay... hopefully tht is the problem with urs too

sounds like the x10 had a better taste than you xD
well there's an option to let the x10 manage all the music even on your pc so maybe that's why

Well my sd card came with my x10 frm rogers. So i hope thats not it!
And no my pc isnt set to manage my music and it was never hooked to my pc so that couldnt be it. . .
Just dnt want this happening again. Anyone?
And since when did mediascape not allow u to play stuff w/o a liscence?!

Music Player lag + stutter

Hey guys I've read about another serious issue plaguing the Vibrant and unfortunately it has been affecting mine too. It's with the Music player. Every time I play a song, there's a lag or a stutter in the song.
Regardless of what song is playing, there's a serious stutter, and it takes away from the music experience.
At this point I'm ready to refund this baby back to bell and unfortunately am considering the Iphone.
I really don't want to but the phone is kinda laggy and with the gps + stuttering problem it's getting quite annoying.
Anyone else have this experience while listening to music? Or is it just mine? It's unfortunate cause the screen is quite nice and responsive at times.
It just seems like Samsung hasn't really fixed any of the bugs plaguing the phone.
What are the specifics on your media? Bitrate/encoder/file type? Are you playing off the internal or external sd?
The encoders are all across the platforms. I have .mp3's to .Wma's. Every song has a time where it stutters.
When I had my g1 this stutter and pause in the music happens when I recieved a text message.
It's just a really fast little pause and it really disturbs the music.
I'm using internal memory.
Same problem here . . .
I am using the internal SD card as well
mp3s
196kbps fixed
44.1 khz
basically as vanilla as you can get. . .
I tried airplane mode, just in case it was a sync issue, no luck
I just put a few songs on the 2gb sd card that came with the phone and I tried to play a song and the screen went black and my touch sensitive buttons were light up lol and it restarted itself.
Going back to my Zune HD/iPod lol. oh well. When it comes to media the iPhone takes the cake. Android is more nerdy and customizable.
Doesn't bother me too much. I would have personally like to have an all in one device but dont have the money for ATT's plan and prefer androids customization over iPhones.

The Galaxy S Vibrant is supposed to be the best android phone for music on the market. Why should you cough up the dough and then go back to listening on another player?
It's not right. I'm beginning to think it's a software issue.
I've had no problems at all with the music player. Music in mp3 format at 320kbs.

I have about 8GB of MP3, WMA and 4GB of FLAC songs on a class 4 microSD card. I don't have any issue as you describe. Try to reset your phone first.
iPhone and Zune only play few formats. Drag and drop FTW. What a PITA when I have you sync everything to my iPhone using that stupid iTunes. To be able to play my song/movie without converting it to another format FTW too.
Ive noticed this issue as well. The best way to describe it, is like a cd skipping real fast. It's less than a second long, and it's literally a skip in playback.
I initially suspected it was a small lag spike from the screen shutting off, but Ive had it happen twice in a row after the screen is already off.
There must be some process running in the background that is causing this to happen, because it's totally random. It does happen after the screen shuts off though.
I've been using mine with a class 2 card and about 14 gb of music of mostly mp3s. I get an _occasional_ skip but nothing more than I would get with any other music player. Haven't noticed anything else going on at the same time though.
I think it's your device, though IMO if that's enough to make you want an iphone then you're probably missing the point of android in the first place.
This happen to me too. The stock music player. Though, I have no problem with other music player apps eg. 3(cube), mixzing.
It's likely to be a widget. For me it was Gauge Battery.
Im not getting any type of stuttering.... This plays music flawlessly...
Theres got to be something going on with your device. Also I would have heard about this issue alot more if everyone was experiencing it...

Agreed. I don't have this problem either or have never noticed it. The only time I noticed skipping, it was a singular song I had on the device. Not a random occurrence as explained.
That makes issue 3 for the Vibrant that I don't have

The same goes for me. No problems with any other music player only the stock. It's not even close to bad enough to switch from this device only happens once every so often.
Ok tried simply music app and playing from a class 6 card. Still getting the stutter. I am using beautiful widget weather app, will disable it and try again. . .

I have about 5G of music from itunes on my vibrant. I used isync app from the market to get the music from my itunes to my phone, I have had the phone 3 weeks and have experienced ZERO lag, stutter, or skipping...but my uncle who got the phone the same day from the store (i received mine through mail) had the same problem with the stock player. I think its because he used widows media player.

I have the studder issue. Uploaded through windows media player. It seems to happen when i load the first song, and happens more if I'm listening to music while I search through the the music lists. When the screen is inactive it works perfectly unless its the first song. I have almost 8 gigs of music
It was the weather widget that was causing the problem, thanks heygrl.

Sorry for hijacking kinda
but I am about to retry it once again. I don't have a SD card other than the 2gb that came with the phone should I put the music on the phones internal and see if I get studdering again?

Can't play music files?

Two days ago my Pandora crapped out due to "unexpected technical problems." Typical. So I fire up Winamp to find that it won't play my music. Says it can't play the file type (mp3). All of my music is giving the error. I try with the native music app and get the same error. I end up wiping my phone and starting over. Everything is running fine until Pandora dies again. Winamp says it can't read the files again. Wtf? Reboot and it fixed it (unlike the first time I had this problem). Anyone having a similar problem or know of a fix?
I believe all droid x has this Problem, I've had two and they both shared this glitch. Restart the phone and it should remedy the problem. Temporarily
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Damn you, Motorola!!! *shakes fist in air*
yeah i have this problem ALOT. I think the more music you have the faster it happens. I have all 16g used up by music and I get like an hour or 2 and its done.
What bit rate is your music encoded at? I haven't done a lot of experimentation, but it seems like my higher bit mp3s may be causing more problems.
This happens to me daily. I reboot but a major pain. Is there an app to reboot with? Seems like there should be.
I have tried different music apps to no avail.
What about the SD Card? Think the supplied one for the Droid is the cause by chance? Anyone try another one?

[Q] Milestone 2's Music Player go freeze randomly

Hello,
My music player ( pre-installed in Milestone 2 UK retail ) go freeze sometimes, especially after a song finished.
This happened randomly and not so frequently, sometime music player works perfect even I played all songs ( 80+ songs ). So I don't know whether a solution really works immediately.
After the music player freezed, I cannot operate any thing in the player interface, just force close the player in process manager, restart the player, then I can't play songs anymore ( freeze again ) .
And, I can't start any SD-related apps like video players and some games ( like Asphalt 6 ). But I can copy/cut files in the file manager.
Remount SD card or reboot the phone, everything backs to normal.
Is this the microSD's problem?
I tried different ways to format it but never solve the problem, and, Watching movies/Playing games goes well. I also try to replace the music playing libs with Droid X's (http://yuanjie.name/entry/milestone-2-mp3-crackling-playback-issue-solved), but music player freeze again last night.
I have no idea what happened.
Thanks in advance.
Try an alternative music player such as WinAmp or PowerAmp.
Check if your problem persists.

Thank you very much!
I'm try PowerAMP now, I really enjoy this powerful app.
I'll give a feedback if it doesn't freeze after several days.
This looks like SD Card issue. New player won't help IMO. Try testing on another dard.
I really think it's a kernel problem, or at least a problem with the media scanner. Sadly, I think we'll have to wait for GB update =/

I read the thread, it has some similarities with the problems that waigx and I are facing. Can you open any other application after PowerAMP shuts down? Does it really shuts down or crash (stays in memory but doesn't execute anything)? Can you open a file manager when this happens?
I'm using Cubed as my player - though all other players I tried (default from Motorola, Meridian, PowerAMP, WinAmp) behaved exactly the same.
Sometimes the player keeps on thinking it is still playing (i.e. track progress is moving without sound), but usually it just ends up with ANR. All other applications [that I need] seem to work fine after this. I do seem to remember Goggles and Camera not responding after a crash, but they crash on their own anyways, so can't really put blame on music player crashing.
A couple of times I did have a case where I couldn't open up SD card anymore, but I've gotten so used to this (8 hours of work+music with 2-3 crashes [or more?] every day) that I stopped trying - just reboot and continue where I left off.
The crashes happen around the same time (but not exact) - around lunch, then at around 3-4pm. Sometimes it also crashes when I'm on my way home ~6-7pm. I think it is somewhat related to power management - I notice it crashes more often as the battery is going down (although I do charge pretty much every night) and there's that "standby called" log message. I did try various battery settings with no luck - any suggestions what I could try more?
There were also a couple of times where I would just leave it at rest after a crash, then start Angry Birds (seemed to reset media/sound system or something), or just wait 15-30 minutes and the sound would come back and the player would unfreeze after a force close and everything would work fine. Until the next crash, that is.
I'll try the remount SD trick and I'll double check the file manager the next time it does this - presumably just after lunch on Monday
I freezed the media scanner with Titanium Backup and scanned music media with PowerAMP, but I had the same problem afterwards... Looks like a deeper problem or a problem with the sd card

This thing has worked on my gf's milestone 2 ... but I am not sure if it will work for you ...
1.) Backup ur device/settings/messages etc
2.) Factory reset the device
3.) Sign in your motoblur a/c after factory reset
Immediately after that
4.) Open connected Music Player .. press menu button and find the options for tunewiki lyrics/covert art downloader ... uncheck all of those
5) Settings->DataManager-> somewhere u will find similar options as above .. disable all of those
Basic Idea is to completely diasble all sort of data that the connected Music Player will ever need ....
Sorry, I could not give you the exact Menu operations because I dont have the device with right now... But it works if u r ready to do the factory reset...
You will actually like the Connected Music Player after this because it has a nice shoutcast integration and neither does it crash so often like Winamp...
Also as far as I know the bug with the Connected Music Player is such that Music in all sort of other players including Winamp also stops working ..
Tell me if it works

My Goggles and Camera also always crashed long time ago, but your problems is really stranger than mine.
I think you should WIPE your phone ( don't forget backup data before it ).
Before I flashed the Argen2Stone ROM, I suffered from the same problem. The CMP froze spontaneously.
Now - after using A2S - I never recognized such a behavior again.

Hey anupash,
I really appreciate for your detailed answer, I was bought PowerAMP. Even thought it cost $4.99, but I think it worth that.
I delete up CMP in the file system, my phone runs well in these days. Players like Winamp, realone are using system decode libs, so they also meet some problems I guess.
Connected Music Player have a great integration with the whole system, but I need data sync and album-arts.
Thank you again, If I meet additional problems I'll post in this thread later.
Best regards.

File manager seemed to work - at least for browsing the folders.
Unmounting SD killed the player. Remounting it back and trying to play anything made the phone reboot on it's own. Go figure.

Task Manager kills Live Wallpapers

So I am currently running the latest version of Fascinate Community ROM and whenever I do a "Level 2" ram clear whatever Live Wallpaper I'm using gets killed, resulting in a black screen behind my desktop.
I can although change to a different Live Wallpaper and go back and the original will work.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Am curious why you would be doing a lvl two cache clear enough that it would be a problem?
As am I. If you are using it to save battery life and attempt to fully close programs there are countless ways of doing this which are easier and better.
These is a reason it is killing your wallpaper..... you are telling it to.

Yes I am telling it too, but on my Mesmerize ROMs it restarted right away with my launcher.
The reason I do a level 2 ram clear is because level 1 doesn't close any applications. Plus, some apps run as services and I don't want to have to go into Services but to end them one by one.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The problem with that is that those services just start back up. There are some that I think only load on boot. Why not just uninstall what you are trying to close instead. Wiping the cache isn't exactly a normal way of closing apps.
Think of ur phones memory as a chalk board.. ur phone write the programs down one by one.. till it fills up.. then it erases the least important app.. and writes over it.. u do a level 2 wipe.. its trying to write with both hands to catch back up, then most likely you hit home and it has to throw a 3rd hand it doesnt have to try to open ur launcher.. last thing it thinks of is ur walpaper. being its least important.. u shouldnt be doing wipes like that.. its not nessisary.. just close open programs if ur having problems.. actually hurts bat life more than it helps
I'm not saying I'm doing this very often but at times i have to.
For example, about half the time I unplug my headphone jack from whatever I'm using a random song starts playing. It will not stop, the music player doesn't show up as running and a level one clear doesn't stop it, level two does. The music will play behind anything else I do i.e. phone calls, other music, even during shutdown until it actually turns off.
Also, battery life isn't the reason I do it, I am currently only using about 43% battery medium use running unplug for 12-17 hours because of my undervolt settings. I understand the concept of clearing the cache, it's just as I stated there is a need from time to time and it's incredibly irritating to not have a live wallpaper after stopping the ghost music.
Also, as I said this (ghost music and live wallpaper problems) never occurred on my USCC Mesmerize ROMS only this VZW Fascinate ROM (Community ROM V1.2).
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I'm not suggesting that it is the most likely possibility but it could be a physical problem with your 3.5 jack. A short in the jack can cause some funkyness playing songs and other audio. While back I had the og droid which suffered from this. If I moved the cord at all mp3s, podcast, pandora would all go crazy. Had to get a replacement. Since then I have tried to avoid ever plugging anything up to that jack when it is in my pocket. Bought a blue tooth to 3.5 adapter to protect it.
Again not saying that this is your problem, just that it is a possibility to be aware of. Concerning the issue with the music playing, not the wallpaper ofc.

Yea I think this is the problem, a buddy of mine still has the og droid and says the if he moves the jack around music will start and stop. I think it's partially hardware and software because android has the ability to pause when unplugged and to resume when plugged back in.
The live wallpaper problem is only a temporary problem until I get that fix. I think I'm gonna call samsung for a replacement under warranty because my screen also has burn in and that is covered as well.

So I decided the other day to take a look at the running services while the ghost music was playing and noticed Winamp was running and as soon as I stopped it the music stopped.
Update: I uninstalled Winamp and have used an 3.5mm jack for music unplugging and re-plugged in with no problems.

[4.4.4] Phone freezing and crashing - problem with android.process.media

UK unbranded and unrooted
Upgraded to 4.4.4 OTA yesterday, at first it seemed OK but a couple of hours later started freezing when I was using Walkman app. Reinstalled 4.4.4 via PC Companion, seemed OK but now its happening again.
Walkman app is very slow to display contents when I switch to list of artists and even slower when I select an artist to display their albums. Added a playlist in Walkman app, when I tried to display the playlist a few minutes later the app froze. Google play music also freezes. Phone reboots a couple of minutes after freezing
I have 3 widgets on desktop - Walkman, bbc news, xperia camera - all 3 take 2 or 3 minutes to load up after a reboot, didn't notice it taking this long before 4.4.4
When the phone freezes I sometimes get fcs from Google Search.
Anyone else getting similar?
My music is on a 128GB SDXC; music folder is 94.5 GB, contains 1040 folders and 19134 files
Was never a problem before 4.4.4
Will try reformatting card tonight when I get home, if that fails guess I'll have to flash previous release
Phone kept freezing and crashing all morning, especially in walkman app and eventually even in the clock app
And I couldn't download any files, eg from playstore, would get a message that it was going to download but no download notification and the file never arrived
About Phone > Diagnostics > Device Facts shows I have had 15 system restarts between 8am and noon, and under 'apps not responding' there are 460 entries for 'android.process.media' between 7:45 and noon
So, I went to Apps > Running and cleared data/stopped 'Media' and under Apps > All did the same with 'Media Storage'
Rebooted phone, its been up for over 3 hours now with no more freezing or reboots even though I've been using Walkman on and off through this period, and have also downloaded a few apps from play store
Hope this helps anyone else with similar problems

Hey, similar problems
got o2 uk z2, updated to 4.4.4 ever since i must of had 20+ reboots/restarts from crashing and freezing.
i have a sandisk 64gb in there too for reference. but ive been using 4.2.2 without much issues. never frozen.
since 4.4.4 ive factory reset 5 times and repaired via pc companion twice now. having initially done update OTA.
yesterday managed most of the day without problems but then after turning off the device for bed and waking up this morning again severe freezing. at first i thought it was because of two google accounts on my device, although i use only one for app sync etc and the other is just for emails+drive. having removed both google accounts and reinstating just one i got it to work flawlessly yesterday. fyi i have a sw2 smart watch and swr10 smart band. bluetooth unlock is great so i have been using that, one of the main reasons i updated to 4.4.4.
anyway ive tried hardly installing any apps , basically apart from the ones that come with 4.4.4 and whatsapp. and still it froze on me once 15minutes ago.
ive tried your suggestion for stop/clear cache on media and media storage in apps>running. will see how that goes
unsure what else to try. i dont have many 3rd party apps other than stuff like shazam and netflix, not exactly joe bloggs in his bedroom developed apps.
still have my z1, which i remember an update just before z2 released made that buggy. Ive had 3 phones in 18 months, HTC one m7 > Z1 > Z2, thought id stop here with the z2 for awhile. I really thought google and sony would have got their act together by now. i know it isnt just sony, nexus devices have problems after an update, hell even IOS does.
I think this is the last time I bother to update firmware, might as well just cut your losses and change handset or remain on old firmware for as long as possible.

yesterday managed most of the day without problems but then after turning off the device for bed and waking up this morning again severe freezing. at first i thought it was because of two google accounts on my device, although i use only one for app sync etc and the other is just for emails+drive. having removed both google accounts and reinstating just one i got it to work flawlessly yesterday. fyi i have a sw2 smart watch and swr10 smart band. bluetooth unlock is great so i have been using that, one of the main reasons i updated to 4.4.4.
anyway ive tried hardly installing any apps , basically apart from the ones that come with 4.4.4 and whatsapp. and still it froze on me once 15minutes ago.
ive tried your suggestion for stop/clear cache on media and media storage in apps>running. will see how that goes
unsure what else to try. i dont have many 3rd party apps other than stuff like shazam and netflix, not exactly joe bloggs in his bedroom developed apps.
still have my z1, which i remember an update just before z2 released made that buggy.

It's happened to me again a couple of times, once when using camera and another time I was downloading a photo from the web. Both times I cleared problem by clearing data from Media Storage, but every time I do this I lose my Walkman playlists

I have experienced playlists downloaded to external storage from Google play music which I subscribe to, randomly dissappearing for months, basically ever since I went from z1 to z2. I could download 15gb of playlists so that I can play when offline and keep easily on my 64gb SanDisk. I tried reformatting the sd card several times.
Because of continued problems now on 4.4.4 im trying the device without any sd card as that could be the culprit
Last few hours ive had no freezing or reboots

Are you losing the music or just the playlist? All my music is copied on from my pc. The music is still there, every time I clear media storage I have to recreate playlists, pain in the backside selecting individual tracks from albums and sorting them into the order I want.
I've emailed Sony support about the problem, will post their response here.
One of the freezes I had was downloading apps from play store, another was downloading photo from internet (download folder is in internal storage) and once was taking pictures with the camera app set to write to internal storage, so in my case don't think it's the sd card.
This android.process.media is a troubled damn process, actually. Many people suffer from it, even other devices with various ROMs. My problem is this "1013 AudioMix wakelock" problem. For example, my phone is on battery for 36 hours now. 2 hours 15 mins is devastated by this process. It kept my phone awake DESPITE that screen was off. So, you think that your phone goes into deep sleep when you press that big silver button on the side of the phone? Not always.
