I got the G2 yesterday, and I was noticing that when the brightness is set to the lowest setting, its starts to flicker. I work in a dark factory, and even the medium brightness is too bright sometimes, so I really need the low brightness setting. Should I exchange it, or will that not do any good? Is any body else experiencing this problem?
I would exchange it, I am pretty sure the screen is not supposed to flicker regardless of its brightness setting.
Edit: I did read a post on another forum where someone was experiencing the screen flickering issue but I don't recall exactly which forum it was on.
That sucks, I was hoping that there was something I could do, because I just put on the screen protector. I bought the screen protector from tmobile, do you think they would give me a new one if I exchange the phone?
Yeah you can return it as long as you have the box and a receipt.
I am having the same problem with my G2; screen flickers on lowest brightness setting. Is this not happening with others?
I just came back from the t mobile store but I couldn't replicate the problem in front of the rep. Earlier today and all of yesterday, all I had to do was put the brightness down and wait 3 seconds but now I can't get it to do it again. I guess maybe its a good thing. If it happens again, I'll go back.

I had already posted about this problem as its effecting me to. I was able to replicate the problem on 3 other G2s. But some users are saying that they can't. Idk you can return the device but for me I rarley go below 10% so it almost never hits me for day to day use. U can try returning it but idk if the one u got would have the same prob or not.

yes! i noticed mine was doing this too last night while i was in bed, then i didnt notice it anymore after that, i thought i was the only one
I am going to go exchange it first thing tomorrow. I hope the new one is fine. I hope it isn't affecting all g2s.

I had exact same issue. I brought mine into tmobile store, it didn't replicate right away but after few mintues it started flickering again. I exchanged successfully and have no problem since.

Mine seems to do it under fluorescent lights I noticed... is this possibly because of the AMOLED? I would be curious to follow up on someone who exchanged for this reason. Can one of the folks who exchange test in wal-mart or some gymnasium with really cheap lighting? I have my screen on the lowest setting now and it isn't flickering. I was just in the elevator which has fluorescent lights and it was flickering away!

I use the App DIMMER which makes the screen as dim as possible. And my screen doesn't flicker.

The major flaw in this theory is the screen is nowhere near an amoled. This is not just a nexus with a keyboard.

I got a replacement today, and so far 18+ hours and the screen seems to be fine. Ill report back if i have a problem
OK that makes sense now that I have read that the screen is LCD in another thread. There was a rumor that the screen would be AMOLED on these and I am kind of disappointed after comparing w/ my wife's Vibrant in the bright sun. I wish we had an AMOLED w/ a keyboard on TMO. Looks like I have to take this sucker back

I took it into the store and the rep saw the issue and said she could replace it due to buyer's remorse (14 days from purchase / shipment received.) I then told her I bought it online. She told me I need to go online to replace it and that she could only replace a phone bought from the store. I called 611 and the rep sent me a new phone but has to credit my bill when they receive the replacement (otherwise I would have to wait until they get my old one from ups to ship the replacement.) Also, I have to pay to ship the old phone via ups. The rep did say he would credit me for the shipping charges both ways when they receive the old phone. We shall see...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I got my replacement yesterday and NO FLICKER. I've tested for about 24 hours an even held the phones side by side. The screen quality and colors look the same, one just flickers at times... I did have one reboot while I had no signal but that sounds normal from reading through the forums. The hinges and screen on the new phone are perfect. The old wasn't bad but there is definitely a difference from phone to phone.

Has anyone had the problem where they have large white spots on their screen?
On my screen I have 3 spots that are lighter than the rest of the phone. The spots dont affect the phone at all but they are really annoying. I have had the screen replaced 3 times by Sprint now and I want to know if its a defect or just my own damn fault. I never press the screen hard and I keep the phone in my pocket with the screen facing my leg. If others have this problem please chime in!

I have a white spot on my screen also. Sprint said they would replace the phone. I think someone said it was due to processor heat. Mine is a 002 Novatec.

That would suck if its the processor. Did you go to the store or call up?

I've done both. Sprint keeps saying there are no available replacements. A store supposedly ordered one for me but it has been over a month now. I think I'm going to call up and ask for retentions.

I was at the Sprint Store (official) yesterday with my friend (I was helping him pick out a phone). I brought my phone for the tech to look at for the same issue. What they told me is the oils from the skin cause it on HTC screens and there isn't anything they can do. I claim complete BS on this because I've had a screen protector on it. Not sure if I should just phone sprint or not...

This seems like complete bull. This looks like a hardware defect and Sprint should do something about it. I called tonight and all they did was send me my 2nd refurbished phone.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So did both of your refurbished evo have the same white spots ?? I only have one white spot.... so far it doesn't bother me that much.....
I have a 0003 novatec
from past experience white spots are dead pixels which is definitely a manufacture defect
I've had my Evo replaced numerous times.
Evo 1 replaces three weeks.after buying bacuase of a white spot. Replaced with a new one.
Evo 2 replaces fives weeks later dues to same white spot on screen. Replaced with a refurbished unit.
Evo 3 replaced three weeks later due to white spot on screen again. Replaced with another refurbished unit.
Evo 4 was damaged from beginning. Mic not working and external speaker, ringtone speaker, was sounding like it was blown. Replaced in three days. Got a free hdmi cable.
Evo 5, couldn't even use. It was still attached to another account. I went off on the Sprint rep at the store and told them I wanted it delivered to my house cuz I refused to go the store.
Evo 5.5. Store manager called and delivered to my house. He even was able to get me a white Evo. Brand new, not a refurbished unit. So far I call it my sixth in three months but fifth that I could use. In three months.
So far, one week later, no problems and hope there isn't any more. I love the phone but hate driving back and fourth.

No... dead pixels are pixels that show only one color... or no color at all.... this is just a defect in the screen it some sort of heat building up behind it maybe.....

First Evo I got off of Craigslist had a real bad light spot. I sold that one and got a new one in the store. At first I don't believe that it had a light spot, but now it has a small one that's not too bad. My brother's Evo has it. One co-worker's Evo has it. Another co-worker does not have it.
Like others I assume that it is heat related. All of the Evos have the Nova screen. The one co-worker who does not have a lighter spot is probably the least likely to be using his heavily. 3D gaming while charging the phone is the most likely culprit IMHO as there is heat from charging combined with heat from the CPU and GPU. The phone does cut off charging when things hit 50C, but I think it's too hot at this point.
I can't see HTC or Sprint fixing it unless they start using a LCD panel that can handle the heat or they implement a software fix that throttles the CPU before it gets too hot.
i have 3 spots, two in a row and a larger more pronounced spot lower, like a surprised smiley face mocking me. i'm rooted and love the state my phone is in so there's no way i'm going to ever turn this in.
i also had a similar issue with my iphone 3gs. it is absolutely a manufacturer's defect and your preference as to whether you can deal with it.

Yes. Ew.
I had the white spots twice. It is from heat buildup from the processor. Don't let them tell you it can't be replaced. The first time I had it they gave me a refurbished unit. The second time the same store told me nothing could be done and "it wasn't an issue." That is bull**** because if it isn't an issue then it's a feature and that's a ****ty feature. I took it to another sprint store just a mile farther in another direction and they replaced the screen for free.
I have had two EVOs and I have no idea what you ppl are even talking about - never seen or had any white spots on either one of my screens, and I have 11 friends who have EVOs as well and none of them have said any thing about white spots... guess we are just lucky...
I keep getting random laginess and screen unresponsiveness. It doesn't seem to be rom specific as it has happened on cm7, myns 2.2, and now the rooted stock leak. There is a bright white spot that has been there since day 1 and that seems to be where it becomes most unresponsive. It also randomly scrolls and even the capacative buttons become unresponsive.

seems like your digitizer is lifting off the screen because mine would do the same until I fixed it by heating the screen with a hair drier for a bit then pushing the digitizer glass in around the edges.
The white spot is a very common defect-> my phone has it as well.
So its DIY or sprint tep to fix it. Good luck.
Problem with sprint is I think unless it does it all the time I don't think they will fix it. The closest store to me sucks, the last time I brought it in they told to just smash it because they wouldn't fix it. Maybe I will call customer service tomorrow as I don't see any physical defects, the screen is not lifting

i have the light spot. Pretty sure its caused by heat. . Took it in and had the screen replaced by a repair center. It also had light leaks that also got fixed. The new screen is doing the light spots again though. I'm willing to to bet you have a novatec lcd panel. When it happened to me I took a pole and everyone who had this problem had the novatec over the epson. If my xoom does it ill be pretty pissed. My friend has a droidx that also has a light spot in the same area as my evo. Bottom middle, a little off center to the right. Am I right? Neither have screen unresponsiveness though.

Actually for the screen I just turn it off and on and my problems go away.
This is actually my 2nd phone. First one the charging port broke off, I kept it and got a refurb. Then I dropped my refurb and cracked the screen. So I opened up and swapped my old evo's screen to my new one. Works fine, now.

I had the impression of it being the rom early on but after multiple flashes, its the hardware. I believe its due to the combination of lcd lifting and heat from the cpu. I had my swype keyboard on screen one day and noticed that the screen went berserk on/near the white spot on the lcd by watching the trace line

Or exchange it...it is very common on GS2's and Galaxy Nexus...I've seen people post, they bought a Nexus from Google and they have gone through like 5 getting one that doesn't have the dark blotch problem. Some GS3's have it too, mainly international versions. If you got a bad one, take it back...run LCD Test and show it to them, they have to exchange it.
It's something with the glue not drying inside the digitizer/glass assembly
one of the reason why I have not bought a galaxy s3. I don't want to play the exchange game.

Oh crap.. i was thinking of exchanging my unit because it came from factory with a small hairline nick/scratch on the area above the line sensor. Everything else is mint except this part and it annoys the hell out of me. However, I don't have any small black marks nor blotches on my screen. I just tested with LCD Test and it is perfect. You have to use lcd test on black with maximum brightness, you have to be in nearly complete dark, and you have to let your eyes adjust to darkness. Otherwise, you won't see them. Even the capacitive key lights are bright enough to wipe them out.
It's really a nonissue, unless your phone is defective. Some people's phones are really defective, and they are even able to take photographs of those.
Normally, there's no way to see them in any real world use.
I upgraded phone a few days ago because my digitizer issues were becoming increasingly unbearable. Furthermore, I had this whitish ring around the edge of the screen. I'm thinking that the two might be correlated, and so I was wondering if anybody else could provide input.

I didnt like that the text wasnt as sharp on the one S and a few other things so I took it back and got a $20 screen protector put on my atrix at Solo and its been working great since. no white rim or screen peeling issues for far.
What did you upgrade to?

You have a faulty handset. I ended up taking mine back and getting a replacement, no more flicker on GSM!
I spoke to a technician about it and he said that when there is low signal the phone draws more from the battery to boost signal, if the screen is flickering he said that there isn't enough power getting to the screen.
I tried a new battery and it kept happening.
I would suggest taking your phone back for replacement as it shouldn't flicker and you have a faulty device .

My S4 was 10 days old when I took it back for replacement.
I had also had many previous replacements before this one, all because of screen issues.
My current phone still has problems!! It has 2 grey stripes across the screen at low brightness, green tint down the left hand side and a broken power button!
I'm just sticking with this one now because Samsung, in my opinion, have really f***ed up on the S4. It was made cheaply, quickly and with only profit in mind. There's no such thing as a perfect S4, well I haven't been lucky anyway!

I'm just sticking with this one now because Samsung, in my opinion, have really f***ed up on the S4. It was made cheaply, quickly and with only profit in mind. There's no such thing as a perfect S4, well I haven't been lucky anyway!

i share your opinion. their device has got so many faults which was really unexpexcted from samsung.
however today i went to the service centre once again...all the technicians were astonished to watch me there once again ...they couldnt understand the problem with the device and have submitted it for further testing by higher technician...i doubt their efficiency....they have asked me to wait for a day to hear a reply from them!!
