[REQ] GPS coordinates to web-address - Android Software Development

So what I want is to have a program that loads online map of current location using Finnish map service called "Citizen's mapsite"
Here is the sample address for map with scale of 1:16000
http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/...idth=660&height=890&showSRS=EPSG:3067&lang=en
It doesn't have to have any other abilities than load map view from current location. Also it's enought if it uses androids browser for viewing.

TOMTOM Navigator for USA

Hi Folks,
I am currently using TTN3 with UK and MRE. It is using a TomTom Bluetooth GPS and all works great with no probs at all. I am going to the USA on business at the end of the month. Does anyone know a way I can use it with tomtom maps of the USA without having to buy TOMTOM Navigator USA, but instead add maps to the TTN3. I think it would be wrong if I had to purchase the whole application again just because I fly over the big pond to the states.
Would you like a copy of DeLorme street atlas, I have the handheld version and the pc/laptop version.
DeLorme, makers of Street Atlas USA announced XMap Handheld - Street Atlas USA - Edition, a complete mapping program for the entire U.S. that lets users bring detailed, up-to-date street-level maps and directions on either Pocket PC or Palm OS handhelds.
With most handheld mapping software, users need to plan routes on their desktop PC before they set out on their trip. XMap Handheld Street Atlas USA Edition's unique feature of creating and managing address-to-address routing directly on the PDA is easy, providing the added security of always having exactly the maps needed and allowing for last-minute changes on the road. The enclosed desktop CD, with maps of the entire U.S., lets the user decide what kind of maps and how much coverage area they want to bring on the handheld. The software shows the amount of memory for each map prior to downloading. Users simply load as many maps as they want directly on the handheld or removable storage cards, and then quickly find directions and phone numbers to local restaurants, hotels, and much more.
XMap Handheld Street Atlas USA Edition provides detailed vector-based maps so users can search for their address book contacts, place names, streets, cities, or choose from categories including 4 million places of interest including hotels, ATMs, restaurants, gas stations, attractions, and more, most with phone numbers. Enter start and finish points on the map and the software automatically calculates the quickest or shortest route and displays a detailed map or written directions.
that would be great if you could. please send me the details and i will get in touch.
Just send pm.
Hi there. I have sent you a PM (i think) are we any further along in solving this one..
I need your details for posting.

Navigation on foot

Hi people
A quick question regarding navigation software. I know Tomtom and Navigon are good for driving and for walking round towns and cities but is there any software for off-road walking ?
I love walking and climbing on the fells in the Lake District etc. and it would be handy to be able to fire up the GPS just to check that I am where I think I am
I use oziexplorer for geocaching, so it should be fine for your purpose.
I know that you can download maps for other parts of the world from their website, but I never have ... so I can't say how good they are.
That having been said there are utilities on the site to convert other map formats to be used by oziexplorer.
The site is http://www.oziexplorer.com/
I'm also using OziExplorer for now. Before I go walking / geocaching I scan a paper map and convert the map with the tools that you can get on that site.
If you are using a SirfStar III GPS make sure you turn off static navigation otherwise, if you are walking slower than 4km/h, your map won't update until you have walked about 50 meters.
memory map is my preference, uses OS maps of all kinds as well as allowing adding in your own if you set up the long/lat of a fixed point on it, although ive found it better just to get the electronic os version as the image is far superior, the ahard work is done for you and you can search via place names etc.
also the "3d" images and "fly throughs" make for fun evenings*
*(yes i am a mapping anorak )
Yep, memory map is superb
Always fun to download your recorded route back onto your PC and view it in 3D
GPS2Google
ThereĀ“s a very nice tool called GPS2Google.
It just records your GPS- data, which you can upload to googleEarth later on.
Here you have 3D . way description.
Very geek an easy tool.
Its not fpr navigating, but you can use it while using your standard navigation-programm thru a virtual - comport-doubler.
Have a look here http://www.s-gps.com/

Try Tracky at www.trackthisout.com
I've been in talks with the author and he has now put in the British Grid co-ordinates and the OSGB36 Map datum which means you can use it with Ordnace Survey maps (a big plus in this country)
Tracks can be recorded, overlayed on a scanned in section map and analyzed later.
Great UI too. I am not affiliated
Thanks for the input everybody. I tried OziExplorer but had problems with memory (not got big storage installed so it ran out of memory). Tried Memory Map but found I had downloaded the OS version which doesnt allow you to calibrate your own maps ! Seems I must get a copy from the US site that doesnt have these restrictions.
Not tried Tracky yet, just about to download.
Thanks once again everyone, its nice to know there are people out there who get out of the car once in a while At least I have some idea of whats out there.

gps city walk application with movies and photos

Hi,
Probably this is a bit off topic but I have no idea where else to post it.
( so if you have suggestions)
Ok, I'm looking for an windows mobile application that can help me with making a city walk that must be viewable by regular computers and most recent mobiles.
So e.g. a camera application that add gps coordinates to the photo , a gps application with which I can add photo's and movies to the route ...
The complete system must in the end be able to interact with google maps. I understand that there will be a lot of extra programming work but I'm now busy with a first orientation . Anybody has any idea's ??
Rgds,

Best GPS software for walking in the city and hiking?

Hey all,
Just ordered the TP2 and it will be here tomorow. It's going to be my first WinMo phone and I was wondering what the best GPS software/application for someone walking in the city or out hiking would be.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mike
google map
Try BING mobile also.
I think that GPS Tuner v5.4m is the best for doing this job! The newer version is not so powerful as the old version, but try it out. (it has google map, google topo, etc included
Ranney
I had just found marathon (freeware). it installed great (must also install .net 3.5). have not tried yet to have an opinion
If you want to see your position on a map image better than Google or BIng, Quo mobile is very good for biking/hiking with maps that you either buy (e.g. UK ordnance survey) or using images that you can calibrate yourself.

Google/Bing rather lose their usefulness away from the highway especially if the satellite image is low resolution or no mobile signal is available..
For walking in the city and getting directions, TomTom.
For hiking, backcountry navigator, which works more like the old standalone GPS units (Garmin GPS12/etrex).
There are also apps that allow you to import USGS topo maps. However as an outdoorsman I rely more on a real map and compass in the woods, there are no electrical outlets on trees or rocks.

NoniGPSPlot
This tool allows you to locate your position in relation with other GPS points, to see the journey you have traveled.
You can find back your place at harbour after a trip on boat, the starting point of an excursion or locate your car in a huge car park,
A place of which you know the location,
To see the excursion you made,
Speed trap alert or lots of other things...
Tracks and saved points can be exported to GoogleEarth and to GPX standard.
Put your old tracks in the background with a system of tracing,
Put maps in the background (moving map),
And those can be downloaded directly from Internet if you have an access to Internet on your PDA (GoogleMap maps, YahooMap, VirtualEarth and some layers of OpenStreetMap). Display a graph of altitude, speed or signal level.
Download it directly to your TP2 here
