Yesterday, vodafone (in Germany) asked me to update my android to a newer build. Since then I can no longer use tethering. I tried in on two computers with which it worked before, so I know its not the computer.
the new version is:
firmware version 2.1 update 1
build number:
1.25.162.1 CL229476 release-keys
Is there anything I can do? would a factory reset help me? Is there an app that I can load to get tethering back?
Thanks in advance!

You will have to re-root your phone. Updating the firmware removes root
Did i get this right?
Re-rooting my phone means doing a hard reset?
what does it mean "it removes root" I am more of a newbie than I thought.
thanks!
To get the wifi tether to work you must've first used unrevoked tool to root the phone to get superuser permission and then installed wifi tether. You need to use it again after the update to 're-root'. You do not need a hard reset

Hi guys, First of all HAPPY CANADA DAY!
I have a rogers branded Sony Ericsson phone with original firmware. But I have removed some bloatwares from Rogers and Golf game.
My phone have been noticing me about 2.3.3 firmware update. The phone itself also downloads, installs it. But after that process, the phone starts like normal and says "Couldn't update" message.
I tried resetting phone and tried many methods. Now the phone also doesn't display "Connect to Phone memory" in Notification area (it charges, but apparently doesn't connect to PC) :/
What's wrong?
You probably modified some of the system files in a way. Anything like removing bloatware with Titanium Backup will cause the update to fail. If you want to root your phone, you'll need to re-flash the Rogers 2.3.2 ROM back, root it with GingerBreak, and then perform the update to 2.3.3.
If you don't want to root, just use FlashTool to flash the Rogers 2.3.3 ROM.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Where can I find 2.3.2 Rogers ROM and how can I re-flash the platform? (the phone doesn't show connected to PC as well).
Do a search. There's a thread in the android development forum with the rogers 2.3.2 rom. I just flashed that one back yesterday to update to 2.3.3
anyone out there using wifi tether either rooted or not.
I did the latest system update, rooted device and I can't get wifi tether to work anymore. Tried replacing services.jar and services.odex, tried wifi tether for root users, barnacle, and even foxfi.
Nothing works.
I know I can revert back to before system update. Just wondering if there are any other ideas out there.
Bluetooth tether isn't working for me on MDL with root. I have not reflashed the hotspot mod.

You mean MDL?
Yes, I'm on MDL.
One other note ... my phone never did hands free activation, so there are no sprint aps installed, no spritnt zone, no sprint loading picture, etc ...
I can not get hotspot mod to work or anything. Perhaps not doing hands free activation precludes hotspot from working.
I updated and reinstalled and it will connect but only has limited connection and will not work.
Earlier today my whole google voice integration got screwed up today with this system update. I had to take my phone into sprint for them to hard reset it then re-flash it and then reprogram the phone.
I have confirmation ... It doesnt work because sprint apps were never installed with hands free activation.
Nothing to do with MDL vs MDC.
I would Odin flash MDL which will load all the apps.
I redid mine and followed everything as written and it works great. I had messed it up from the first time by downloading the apps that I had before updating that had some files from old (MDC) .
Recently (3-1-14) I notice some of my apps crashing and that I could not get into Safestrap...then I notice I had a OTA update from ATT that unrooted my Phone...So I began to look for help and found that if you tried to use Kingo (latest version) to re-root your phone it did not work..You have to find an earlier version. For me (1.1.5) worked. Then after you get you root access back just re- install that programs that you may have trouble with and you should be back to normal...
I hope this helps...

There is already a thread with the answer to this......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50734552&highlight=kingo#post50734552
Hi guys, i recently tried using odin to flash ROM, however it started rooting it and it hasnt finshed it and failed, after that when i use root checker it says root access is not properly installed on this device. And no longer see BIXBY VOICE working (security patch is april) So my question is does my phone still count as never rooted, will i be able to update my phone software via wifi like i did before, considering i dont want my phone rooted, and can i fix the status to not rooted? Thanks in advance
Hey everyone,
I decided to try and root my galaxy s5 g900v that no longer has active cell data to unlock the bootloader so that I could update it to a newer version of android (if I can get it to android 10 that would be great) and I followed the instructions to root the phone on this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/testers-required-easier-root-method-t3561529 using the CID 15 method, and when I flashed the COMBINATION_VZW_FA44_G900VVRU2APA1_VZW2APA1_25726 56_REV00_user_mid_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 file and rebooted my phone the wifi suddenly wouldn't authenticate anymore.
I've done it a few times and one of those times the wifi worked but I couldn't get the OS to update, the rest of the times the wifi didn't work (but I managed to update it to android 9 but I couldn't find a way to fix the wifi).
I've tried a factory reset a few times now and it still doesn't connect and I don't have a non-rooted version to restore too because the phone isn't really that important to me at this point since it's an old backup.
Does anyone have advice on how I can successfully root the phone and update it so that the wifi actually works?
Thanks in advanced
