Does anyone else have an issue with HTC sense rebooting every so often ? Mine does approximately 1/2 times a day.
It's pretty random.
Are there logs anywhere that I can check to see what may be causing it ?
Are you getting a force close and then reboot, or is sense ui just flat out going back to the HTC screen and then reloading itself? If it's the first then you have some type of file corruption going on.
If it's the second it's possible that you have so many things running and loaded that Android is killing off sense in order to make room for other things. This was a real common issue when touchflo (basically senseui for winmo) got ported to older winmo phones.
Or the other possibility is you are running some type of task killer that is killing off required sense services and it's forcing it to reload.
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
do you have any taskkiller or auto kill enabled? i had problems when i did
I have to hold my hands up and say I'm using Advanced Task Killer. I guess I'm under the misguided illusion that the snappiness comes from using that.
I'm guessing it's killing some service that HTC Sense relies on, so I'll try and turn it off for a while and see what happens.

on my taskiller i wasnt even killing sense, i was killing mail (then sense reboots)
I've been getting random phone restarts too in the last week. I do have Advanced Task Manager and TasKiller, but I never had this problem until recently. I usually only kill stuff I would have manually opened. I think I hear an alert on my phone and it's just restarting.
I usually get this when I stop peep.
Swype?
Seems like it might be swype. Anyone?
another one here that has the same problem since the beginning. The problem basically is that HOS only has about 200 MB of free RAM after booting, and this is too few. Then, when you open some big apps or games, the system closes sense to make space for tha app, then when you return to the home screen, sense reloads itself..... It is normal, it is not a malfunction, but I guess they should solve it, it is quite anoying to be waiting several seconds for the sense to reload until you can go on using the phone, at least it is anoying in this so high class phone....
I think there is some tweak or mod over there that modifies the behavior of android so it won´t close sense and it won´t reload anymore, but you have to be root to do it.
Best regards.
im using fresh 0.2. and sometimes it happens maybe every 2 hours when i unlock the phone htc sense shows its starting up again like if it was ended. i always have it open and im not really sure what might be ending it.. any help would be appreciated
The Task Killer is doing it. Stop auto Kill
I've read a few posts stating that the task killer apps are causing the sense crash. I have removed mine two days ago...since then my phone still reboots when ever it pleases. while on a call, while im sleeping, in my pocket. just seems to do it when ever it feels the need to make me regret my purchase.
if your not on the stock rom then don't blame the device.
also, the app 'spare parts' can cause sense to constantly reboot if you have selected:
activity/process management > aggressive
thanks this solved it for me. It was the spare parts messing with it. The custom rom (Inspire 4g- CoreDroid hd v4.9) came preloaded with parts on there. i personally never had a need for parts.
I am on my third Vibrant from Bell Mobility. I returned the first two because of the same problem. I would be using the phone like normal, and at random times I go to make a call or something, and notice that the phone is turned off! On my last 2, i couldn't turn it back on using the power button, so i would re-install the battery to get it working again (until it would happen again a day or two later).
Well, today it happened for the first time on my third vibrant (on the 2nd day after i had it). This time, i decided to hold the power button for about 10 seconds...and the phone restarted (didn't re-install battery like i used to).
What could be causing this? I thought it was a defect in the phone, but this is the third one to do it. It happens randomly (sometimes every 3rd day, sometimes everyday). Anyone know what it could be? Could the phone just be 'frozen' in sleep mode? (meaning the phone is still on, just the screen is frozen black)...or could the phone actually be off? Thanks in advance!
Have you done any mods to your phone? Rooted? Custom rom? If you're rooted, are you using SetCPU?
The only time that I had this happen to me was using SetCPU, after reading about it if you let it go down to 100mhz in sleep mode it shuts down? After restarting and not having SetCPU on boot, I have not had this happen again.... Hope that helps

Roms etc
Did u get a new battery every time or is it the same battery it might not be the phone but ur battery

Definitely odd occurance then.
My friend had the exact same issue with the Samsung Captivate. He is on his 2nd one, but the issue's started on the 3rd day. AT&T told him it was a battery issue, I guess they had a defective batch. Try to get them to swap a new battery from the store to see if that fixes the issue.
I have been using my vibrant non stop and not had a single issue. I guess its just bad luck on your part.
New battery everytime. Strange strange
Really weird...could be a combination of apps or a bad app...you tried without installing any apps yet

That is strange my wife has that phone and doesn't have any problems bad batch of phones maybe are u letting it fully charge when u get it

Do you have a task killer set on auto kill ? I have noticed when I raised my auto kill harshness sometimes it must have killed a fatal process. I lowered the harshness and it hasn't happened yet

This has happened to me. I'm pretty sure the phone is frozen in sleep mode. Not sure exactly what app caused it, but it only happened one other time. I've removed some apps I wasn't using and it hasn't happened since. Who knows which one was the culprit.
Had the same problem with my first Vibrant from Bell as well, they know about the issue and say they have no fix other than to swap the handset out for a new one. My second handset has been fine for a week now.
Let's compare apps
Some of us are having problems with our Captivate randomly shutting down also. AT&T technical support thinks it could be apps that we've installed. Could they be right? My replacement device didn't start shutting down again after 3-4 days of owning it. By that time, I have already installed some favorite apps. Here's my list. Let's compare and figure this out. It's just a theory. Can't hurt.
<<<< OMG! While typing this new thread to turn on my phone so I can see the list of apps I have installed, MY PHONE TURNED OFF ON ME! WHAT THE...!!! >>> Anyway...
Apps installed strictly from the Market, no apps sideloaded, device is stock:
-SMS Back Up and Restore
-Yahoo! Mail for Android
-Adobe Reader
-XDA-Developers
-Market History Manager
-Speedtest.net
-Google Maps

The ones we have in common are adobe reader and google maps. I installed adobe reader last night and it happened this morning for the first time. Could that be the culprit?

Anything is possible at this point
just to help, I will install adobe reader on my phone and see what happens, I have no issue what so ever, I do have google maps, so let's see what happens with adobe reader
I vote an app causing the problem.
Sorry guys, I have been having the same problem and the only app I have that is the same as that list is Google Maps... and I don't really think that is it.
But it is probably "app" related, in the sense that there is a cache issue or something possibly stock with the phone goes occasionally haywire. It is very random, has been very hard to find any pattern.
It was happening to me only when it was charging, but then yesterday it happened when it was not plugged in. Seems to roughly occur ever other day or so.
Does make the phone not so reliable as an alarm clock, as I recently discovered
Hard reset and don't install ****. Anything. Just let the phone stock for a few days if its fine, its a app.
I had a game called hero of Sparta that wigged my phone out bad. Had to delete that puppy.
[Q] All "oid" Emulators (N64oid, Gameboid, GBCoid, SNesoid) Periodically Freezing
Anyone else having this issue? All four emulators will periodically (about every minute or so) freeze when playing ROMs; I then hit "menu" and "back" and it works again; then it will freeze in about a minute. It doesn't freeze for any amount of time, it just stops the game and requires me to hit menu and back for it to resume.
I have a rooted Motorola Atrix 4G with the Webtop hack. I first noticed it on the Webtop; I then tried several things:
- Took it off Webtop
- Disabled WiiMote and used on-screen controls
- Disabled Bluetooth
- Tried different games
- Uninstalled and reinstalled all four emulators
- Restarted phone
- Tried FPSE and it works perfectly fine, so its all the Gameb"oid" emulators
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a workaround for it? Or any ideas? The emulators have worked perfectly fine in the past and I'm not sure what changed.
Thanks
Bump. Sorry for the bother, but for the life of me I cannot figure this out and I want to avoid doing a factory reset at all possible.
Thanks.
be careful. N64oid was removed from the market. don't uninstall it.

Anyone have any help on my problem?
they're probably on one of your auto-kill lists.

There's nothing on my Task Manager auto-kill list. Could you speculate more please?
Also, if the program were to be "killed," then the program would shut down and I would return to the home screen. Instead, Gameboid (and other "oid" emulators) all just freeze until I hit menu and then they resume. I never leave the program.
Just as an FYI update, I put a minute interval in my original post. However, it's pretty random. Sometimes its over a minute and sometimes it happens within a few seconds.
I'm using a completely stock Atrix and I don't haver this issue. Could it be a screen brightness or power management app causing the issue? Try changing the battery manager state in settings.

are the roms stored on your sd card? the device may be having connectivity errors.
IE; it finds that rom then "loses it" then finds it again. try moving them into another folder.
Thanks for the replies.
I tried moving them from the sd card to the root of the device and playing them from there; no luck. Also, FPSE Emulator still works and its in the same SD Card Ext directory.
I also changed my battery management to performance mode; no luck.
I thought it might have something to do with the input, but I just tested it without hitting any of the onscreen keys and it froze just sitting there (and then unfroze once I hit menu).
*sigh... This is ridiculous. Any other ideas?
EDIT: I tried changing all the Gameboid settings (albeit a limited amount of settings) and nothing seemed to alter it. Same effect.
Tried unfreezing everything I had frozen in Titanium Backup; no luck.
Tried deleting all Gameboid data in manage applications; no luck.
I'm really starting to think it's the Webtop. It could just be a coincidence that I installed and used Webtop right as this started happening, but who knows. Is there a way to revert back to normal (without Webtop)? Or do I really have to do a factory reset...?
Well.. I ended up saying **** it and did a factory reset. It's working now. I haven't done the Webtop hack yet. I'll report back after I do the Webtop hack and will tell you if I experience anymore problems.

Doubt it, fairly sure the entire rom its loaded into ram.
On a side note there seems to be a problem with our digitizer driver. As if you hold your finger down constantly out loses the point after a few seconds. I hqvr heard we have the same digitizer as the nexus s. We should try typing there driver.
As fit op, u are probable ruining out of ram our have a task killer our something.

I've noticed that too about the input method.
I don't have a task killer. Only thing I have is the "Task manager" that came with the phone and nothing is on the auto-kill list. Either way, a factory reset restored everything. Just webtop hacked it again and for some reason the problem isn't there. Let's hope it stays that way.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
whenever im out running listening to the radio the FM radio always shuts down after about 25-30 minutes. It will restart ok once I reopen it but its still annoying having to stop. Does anyone know why this happens?
yeaaah!! I have come across this, but normally when i hide the radio app in the background to use another app. Is this what you do? I think it may be something to do with Android's memory handling, but it's worth taking note of; maybe it's not completely unavoidable...
if you use auto memory manager off the market, the One with the fish logo, you can white list anything that you want to stay alive.. that will help if it's the android system killing the app..
Sent from The Arc!
Yeah I use ATK. Whitelisting is normally the first thing I check though I'm unsure at the mo and not able to check, but will do so as soon as I can to make sure it's whitelisted...
ste.. auto memory manager works with the android memory manager, so you can stop the built in mem manager from shutting it off, through that..

ill have to give this a try. No idea whats causing it but its around the same place on my run each time no matter which route I take, always after about 25 minutes
