[Q] All "oid" Emulators (N64oid, Gameboid, GBCoid, SNesoid) Periodically Freezing - Atrix 4G General

[Q] All "oid" Emulators (N64oid, Gameboid, GBCoid, SNesoid) Periodically Freezing
Anyone else having this issue? All four emulators will periodically (about every minute or so) freeze when playing ROMs; I then hit "menu" and "back" and it works again; then it will freeze in about a minute. It doesn't freeze for any amount of time, it just stops the game and requires me to hit menu and back for it to resume.
I have a rooted Motorola Atrix 4G with the Webtop hack. I first noticed it on the Webtop; I then tried several things:
- Took it off Webtop
- Disabled WiiMote and used on-screen controls
- Disabled Bluetooth
- Tried different games
- Uninstalled and reinstalled all four emulators
- Restarted phone
- Tried FPSE and it works perfectly fine, so its all the Gameb"oid" emulators
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a workaround for it? Or any ideas? The emulators have worked perfectly fine in the past and I'm not sure what changed.
Thanks

Bump. Sorry for the bother, but for the life of me I cannot figure this out and I want to avoid doing a factory reset at all possible.
Thanks.

be careful. N64oid was removed from the market. don't uninstall it.

Anyone have any help on my problem?

they're probably on one of your auto-kill lists.

There's nothing on my Task Manager auto-kill list. Could you speculate more please?
Also, if the program were to be "killed," then the program would shut down and I would return to the home screen. Instead, Gameboid (and other "oid" emulators) all just freeze until I hit menu and then they resume. I never leave the program.
Just as an FYI update, I put a minute interval in my original post. However, it's pretty random. Sometimes its over a minute and sometimes it happens within a few seconds.

I'm using a completely stock Atrix and I don't haver this issue. Could it be a screen brightness or power management app causing the issue? Try changing the battery manager state in settings.

are the roms stored on your sd card? the device may be having connectivity errors.
IE; it finds that rom then "loses it" then finds it again. try moving them into another folder.

Thanks for the replies.
I tried moving them from the sd card to the root of the device and playing them from there; no luck. Also, FPSE Emulator still works and its in the same SD Card Ext directory.
I also changed my battery management to performance mode; no luck.
I thought it might have something to do with the input, but I just tested it without hitting any of the onscreen keys and it froze just sitting there (and then unfroze once I hit menu).
*sigh... This is ridiculous. Any other ideas?
EDIT: I tried changing all the Gameboid settings (albeit a limited amount of settings) and nothing seemed to alter it. Same effect.

Tried unfreezing everything I had frozen in Titanium Backup; no luck.
Tried deleting all Gameboid data in manage applications; no luck.
I'm really starting to think it's the Webtop. It could just be a coincidence that I installed and used Webtop right as this started happening, but who knows. Is there a way to revert back to normal (without Webtop)? Or do I really have to do a factory reset...?

Well.. I ended up saying **** it and did a factory reset. It's working now. I haven't done the Webtop hack yet. I'll report back after I do the Webtop hack and will tell you if I experience anymore problems.

Doubt it, fairly sure the entire rom its loaded into ram.
On a side note there seems to be a problem with our digitizer driver. As if you hold your finger down constantly out loses the point after a few seconds. I hqvr heard we have the same digitizer as the nexus s. We should try typing there driver.
As fit op, u are probable ruining out of ram our have a task killer our something.

I've noticed that too about the input method.
I don't have a task killer. Only thing I have is the "Task manager" that came with the phone and nothing is on the auto-kill list. Either way, a factory reset restored everything. Just webtop hacked it again and for some reason the problem isn't there. Let's hope it stays that way.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

random Network connectvity loss after app installs and reboot?

Is anyone experiencing a loss of network connection after installing a bunch of apps and then rebooting?
Its as if one or two of the apps are modifying the network settings (to something non CDMA based I suspect, since most apps were written prior to CDMA exposure), then after reboot network connection fails, all the sprint desktop default widgets force close (no network connection), and any attempt to get into network settings (or to toggle on/off mobile network via the power menu) results in a force close as well.
The only solution to date is a complete data wipe and reset, forcing you to re-install and simply never let the battery run down or reset the phone for ANY reason.
This is my 2nd phone doing this now, its got me really worried.
Anyone have any ideas?
Wow, am I the only one? And through 2 phones, damn.

sounds like an account provisioning problem to me, nothing from the marketplace changes apn (or whatever cdma calls acct. settings) i'd talk to somebody "in the know" at a sprint corp. store, or with customer service.
I am having the same issue...I already did a wipe 3 times on my phone because anything I try to do force closes...I've talked to sprint and everything is correct on my account...provisioning wise and no one has a clue what
I am talking about
I too am having the same problem. Have you guys had this issue after a fresh hard reboot or only after installing apps?
Happens (randomly) whether I install apps or not, and it seems to be a random amount of time.
Sprint Tech support had me do a dial pad code something like ##768# menu or close to that (call sprint tell your issue they will give you the code), course you cant even do that without a recovery wip4e since the dialer crashes every time you hit it. My only theory is PDANET, anyone else loose connection fairly soon after PDANET install? Since its typically installed via side load (not the typical apk installer in the OS), or maybe Sprint detects it and shuts us down, they are not kindly toward tethering in my opinion.
i've never installed pdanet, so i'm certain it's not the issue.
Ive been having the same problem since the day I got the phone. I originally thought it was related to pandora, but now I dont see any correlation between what programs I have and when the problem happens.
It isnt any one program. I have found if I go over 70 installed apps it will do it till you remove a program or two to get back to 70 or less. You dont have to hard reset. I have not come across a solution to this yet and I am not rooted either.

Do all of you with this issue have that many apps installed? It sounds like so many things are starting at boot-up that it's overloading the memory. Android (just like other smartphone OS's) has a feature that auto kills tasks when it gets low on memory. If you have 70 apps there is a good chance that a large number of them are starting at boot-up whether you realize it or not. So it sounds like the result is Android just starts killing tasks at random to free memory and it's not doing it in a very graceful way.
That theory only works if all of you have a huge amount of apps though.
I thought the same but its not other programs starting. i have tried with just games, which dont auto start and same problem. are any rooted users having this issue? i have to delete a program to try a new one. 70 sounds like alot but it ain't.

70 games is likely to be over 100 megs. With all the Sprint and HTC stuff on there already if you add in 70 games and they are over 100mb then you are probably maxing out your space. Can you check your free space and free memory and report back?
30mb left it is a limit. i have 70 apps and if i install 1 more i wont have service and everything forces closed until i uninstall any app to get me to 70 again.
It's an app limit. It seems to only be on the Sprint Hero, and I can confirm it on three phones, the exact number of apps seems to be phone specific, but it happens somewhere between 70 and 80 apps, usually in the low 70's. The size of the apps doesn't matter, things like browser skins count for this as well. After you exceed the number, the phone becomes broken after reboot, until you remove apps, and reboot again.
Using google brought me to a thread on another android forum with posts from people who have run into this also.
My current solution has been to use ASTRO to backup apps 60 + to the SD card. Then in case the phone reboots (a rare enough occurrence), I uninstall a set of apps, reboot and reinstall them from the SD card. It is a very annoying workaround, and I would really hope that HTC ends up fixing this somehow.
Does anyone know if this problem goes away with one of the custom roms?
I am having this same issue, but I am not downloading apps. It just goes off and on every minute or so. I don't have to be doing anything. In settings it says standing by for connection, it may finally connect then in about a minute it goes off again

Seriously preformance issues

Hi.
I have to soft reset my HD2 all the time because it often lags too much.
I will now list the things which makes me wanna reset my device:
- The HD2 lags so badly, that most actions take up to 5 seconds.
- One application can crash (mostly HTC_Messaging), and I have to soft reset.
- When I write messages, the keyboard has a input lag of 5-10 seconds.
- Screen wont turn on when I push the buttons
- The device wont unlock when I slide the slider, it just stops up.
Now this happens each time I upgrade my ROM, and I am currently using Artemis now.
The programs I've installed each time is:
- FingerKeyboard
- Touch X reset and wifi
- Touch X button icon in messaging
and now I use WMLongLife also.
My SD-card is an 8GB card.
So if someone could help me, I would be happy.
(Sorry for bad english.)

Start again. Install nothing and just configure settings.
Does it run slow and crash then?
If so you have problem that could be harware.
Try another ROM and if the same then I think you need to return the unit.
If all runs fine on a clean, vanilla phone then you are doing something in the install process that is causing the instability.
Try installs one by one to the phone mem and check operation each time.
NB. Some background info would have been helpful. ROM version, Model etc!

The problem is that I can't predict when its gonna happen. It can happen randomly, and then I have to restart the phone. After the restart, everything works normal and perfect.
This can happen upto three times a day, some days it wont happen at all.
Currently using 2.10.531.7 Artemis, but this also happens with the stock ROM. The newest one that is. My radio version is 2.06.51.07
Its kinda difficult to run things vanilla phone, cause the applications I use, I need.
for me htc messaging has never crashed...
i suggest you to flash a stock rom, 1.66 for example and try it without the sent button.
if there are still problems, u can try using mtty or send it back for repair...
edit: i had the problem where the phone was freezing while loading for a long time (over night), and the display won´t turn on. Switched back to manually update Facebook, Twitter and Weather, and had no more problems since...

Well I think its crashing.
That's what I usually use when I lock the screen. So sometimes when I try to unlock it, I just get half of the messaging program or nothing, on screen. And I cant do anything.
When I try to click the Home-button, it respons in some seconds and Home-screen is all laggy.

When you lock the phone apps still run in the back ground as if asleep and when you unlock they attempt to restore themselves as they were before the lock.
You have something clashing installed and that is calling the registry at the same time as something else. Remember when windows full size used to do it?.
I think you have a badly written piece of software installed (either preloaded or installed by yourself) and suggesting starting from vanilla is a way to issolate it!
i've also had similar problems as you. after hard reseting a couple of times, i noticed that the intermittent lag began after i started syncing my phone to my PC and myphone. it turns out that my terrible management of appointments, messages and contacts was the root of my problem (several duplicates of everything, and almost 5000 text messages). i suggest you attempt to work your phone a couple days without loading up any PIM information, archive messages and remove duplicates (sktools is excellent at doing this)
i suggest you do something similar, it really helps. i was able to get my device to prrform as well as when i still had the vanilla ROM
best of luck! your device is better than you think!
Also, use the Task Manager, and close applications that you don't use, especially the Internet browser and applications that use data connection. These ones can really block the phone when connection is intermittent.
Yet again, I'm left dumbfounded by claims of "serious" issues with this device. I just don't understand how almost everyone has a "story" regarding the HTC HD2 being SLOW or LAGGY. Fortunately for me, I haven't soft reset my unit in 46h 5m 19s and everything is still running flawlessly.
your phone sounds faulty or something. for me.. even with the Stock 1.66 ROM i had, it was working pretty fast n smooth. now with Dutty's ROM, its faster n smoother than ever. i love this beast
I never have these problem! I used Official or Clean EX HQ roms and never got these problem!
Try a Task 29 and flash with 1.66 Official or Most popular Cook ROM
Pa49: I have only installed the programs which I have listed in the first post. I guess im not the only one using them.
Kev007: I usually have a lot of textmessages when I dont delet them, but thats max 2000. I dont sync my phone with my computer, so no uneccessary contacts or something either. Dont even use calendar, so have no appointments.
Reignzone: It is really bad. It can happen upto three times a day, and I just cant use the phone at all. Just sliding the home-screen to see all my shortcuts takes maybe 10 seconds. I could film it with a camcorder next time it happens so people could see.
The same thing happens each time I've installed a ROM. So it has clearly something to do with the phone and not with the software I've installed.

I get lags too when twitter is updating in the background. You would think a 1ghz processor could do two things at once
Backup your miscrosd. Try a microsd format. Restore your data. See if this helps.
T-Mo US HD2, still completely stock. I was having some issues with sluggish animations, applied many of the tweaks in the sticky threads here, things got better. However, it was super super slow to switch into some applications (SMS *always*, others occasionally).
Eventually I wondered about that fancy Swype keyboard and tried switching back to the full qwerty. All that disappeared and it moves like lightning now, I have to say.
I haven't played with updating Swype or maybe at least loading a ROM without it that I can do a regular install on top of. However, right now I don't miss it .
Lag issues
I have no idea what is causing your issues, but if it travels from one rom to the next, it may be your sd card.
I had an issue with lag in swype and other apps.
I noticed when I popped out the sd card the device instantly unfroze.
I then copied all files except App data and reformatted the sd.
No issues after that.
Hope this helps.

GT-i9000m has been locking up recently to the point of removing the battery.

It went from extremely rarely doing it to three or four times just the other night in the span of a few hours. I can't reproduce it on command but it happens when I lock the screen and put it in my pocket. Then sometimes when I take it out it is entirely non-responsive, even the power button doesn't work. I have to remove and reinsert the battery.
It could be ADW Launcher or WidgetLocker since those are the only two programs always running, but I was hoping someone else experiences a similar issue. It hasn't happened when I normally lock it yet though, so it could also be the proximity sensor maybe?
Having the same issue (on Bell as well), but not running either of those two apps. Was almost to the point of returning the phone and then installed JM7 and it's been better, although not perfect. Last night it locked up with NoLED displaying an icon, so I've deleted that app to see if that's the issue. It hasn't locked up today, but it did reboot a few hours ago seemingly at random.

Oh, that doesn't sound pleasant at all...
I'm outside of Bell's 30 day exchange period plus I've talked for over 30 minutes, so I'll have to go through Samsung if it completely breaks. On the plus side, a phone from them should be three button recoverable.
Although I can't be without a phone for weeks, I hope it's not the SD card.

Hold your horses people....
before you jump about the lag, and or one click lag fix and such
first you have to investigate what is running on your phone.
just over the weekend (since XDA was down) i stalled over 400 Apps
my phone slowed down to snail speed, then i ran my Startup Manager software (many to choose from)
I suggest Startup Cleaner 2.0 then uncheck everything, leave only the apps that you want to run during start up
reboot your phone and presto, fast as new!
if you can find version 2.1 of startup manager that one is even better
keep note, start up manager apps are not the same as task killer apps
it only run once during start up, and it helps you easily select what should and should not run during start up, so it doesn't stay in memory after it runs
on the same topic
you should also configure your Task Killer apps to kill everything, and add only the wants you want to be running to the ignore list.
that will keep the phone working smoothly even without the "one click lag fix"
i'm still running stock on my JH2 i9000m

All gamer has a good sugestion here BUT we are going to get people flaming the fact that Android shouldnt need task managers.....
Ho hum..
TBH in my experience, I have found (after a couple of hard resets) that there appears to be a size limit for installed apps. Once I get over this size limit, I get LAGTASTIC, phone slows to a snails pace, then I remove a few of the apps and I am back at light speed again....
I cant say what the limit is, but I know when I have hit it - I would then uninstall a lame app or two and get back running.
Yes a lot of people "claims" that, but yet you do a search in Android Market, you see LOTS of Task Manager / Killer apps for every phone.
they were not designed for Galaxy S, they were designed long ago for all the other phones that had and still have the same problems of memory management causing lags
Android is not robust enough to survive without one
heck not even Windows 7 or Windows Mobiles phone
I just read that possibly the phone freezes while trying to find a signal. As this problem has only recently started, and I just recently moved into university, and many buildings receive little to no wireless signal, I think it's more than a coincidence. I'll try going to plane mode before entering lecture halls and basements.

Phone showing signs of DEATH...anything I can do to stop the inevitable??? (i9000m)

i900m - Bell Mobility running j4k 2.2. The phone has been ok till day 6 after upgrade to 2.2. I was using the phone, and it just randomly vibrated...though I hit something by accident, then 10 mins later...again.
Then i was using google maps, and it vibrates once, then 5 seconds later it vibrates 3 times quickly, and force closes google maps. I have been reading about force closes as being a sign of the 'end'...is there ANYTHING i can do to extend the life a little in case samsung comes out with a quick fix sometime soon? Please help...i'm paranoid now all the time
You can also try a factory reset/clear all caches and more (through recovery menu) and perhaps even flashing a new rom.
I've had problems with force closes after flashing roms as well at times, but these steps helped often (just be sure to backup apps and data because these steps will delete/remove them)
a forc close means problems?? i just bought like 1 week ago and have force closes everyday from launchers games and such.. does it mean my phone is defective?
Probably just a phone software corruption, perform a factor data reset then reflash with partition.. should clean/fix everything.
Clear the phone completly (full factory reset)
In dialer type *2767*3855#
If problems still persist, you will need to flash a new rom.

thats exactly what i'm afraid of: a factory reset.
From what i've been reading about the Bell internal sd issues is that a lot of people experienced the dead internal sd when they rebooted their phones (caught in endless loop)...i'm afraid of ever turning the thing off now!
If you don't turn it off it will eventually freeze.
Your screwed either way,
at least if you turn it off now you may have a chance of saving it.
Just backup all your apps, data and settings. I use Titanium Backup.

i've been experiencing a couple of vibrate and FC's lately, really mean its dying? or just a couple of FC's means the app crashed
Not entirely on topic but:
From my own experience, force closes really don't mean anything. In my mind, a FC is like a good old win 98 program crash, it just happens from time to time. I wouldn't read anything into it unless it starts happening on a regular basis to decent apps.
(And even then, spotify for ex. is notorious for FC-ing. It's annoying, but not something thats fixable)
programs that may help
I have a galaxy s2 too so far noprobs as i havent done much with it just rooted stock rom and making my mind with what rom to try but if you go in market and search for as previous reply titanium backup, superuser, rom manager and the best app for deleting apps root explorer. One of these programms come wit a fix permissions option may help.

[Q] Random lock ups freeze

I keep getting random lockups, at least more than once a day, and sometimes several reboots in a row.
It appears that i can happen almost any time, whether it be at a lock screen, while titanium is asking for root, or opening twitter or facebook, even the gmail app. It simply freezes, and requires me to long press the off button and reboot.
Unfortunately, i can't get adb via usb to work on the nook, so i can't get a reliable logcat.
Is this common? I have had two nook devices so far, tranferred the rom over through nandroid and have had lock ups on both, I am flashing regular cm7 nightlies now (emmc), but it occured using phiremod too.
Help?
I never had one, maybe I'm lucky
Have you tried fixing permissions in clockwork?
Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
I am having the same problem. I loaded CM7 to my emmc yesterday and I have had it freeze on me a couple of times now. All have been random. I do have performance set to 1.1 and on demand gov set.
So I can just go to ROM manager to fix permissions? Hopefully that works.
EDIT**
Did not work. Was fine, then I uninstalled market updates, connected to wifi, opened the old market, searched for flash and it froze up. Any ideas?
EDIT 2**
uninstalled beautiful widgets (read that somewhere), so far no lockups (fingers crossed).
i had mine lock-up twice last night
i was in dolphinHD and i had just installed swype beta
i have only had 1 time that it has locked up before then in the last 1-2 months that i have had it.
im blaming swype, since i havent had the problem in the past
perhaps not your problem, if you dont have it installed.
I get lockups pretty regularly. It's irritating. Not sure what the cause is. I thought overclocking had something to do with it but everyone else is overclocked and this problem doesn't seem to be common.
How low do you have the voltage settings in tweaks? Having a voltage just barely too low for your CPU can cause a lot of weirdness. Also, it could be any one of the stepping voltage settings, not necessarily either the min/max frequency.
Folks, playing with the voltage settings in nook tweeks is not for the average user. These settings can really bork your nook. That's why you get a warning when you open those settings.
That being said, I have been running cm7 on eMMC for months and have never had a lockup. I am overclocked to 1200 mHz but have left the voltages alone.(cm7.1 nightly 160).
If you are running on eMMC,try fix permissions first. If that does not help, start looking at the apps you are running to determine if one of them might be the problem. Several people have reported issues running beautiful widgets. There are other apps that can cause issues. If you have good backups of all your apps, try removing apps one at a time. In the process, you might learn something about your system.
Worst case, reinstall cm7, wipe data, cache, and dalvic cache. Start over with a clean system and add your apps (apps only, not apps+data) one at a time. This will ensure that a possibly currupt data set was not causing the issue.
The key to a fast, well functioning nook is to start slowly and ensure each change works well before moving on to the next step.
While it's true I have more time than most to play (retired), my nook can run circles around most competitors but only because I took the time to set it up right the first time and I am not afraid to wipe everything and start over.

I fixed permissions some time ago, seemed to help a bit, but i still get the odd lock up or two. I am running Swype and Beautiful widgets(anyone know a good alternative?)
I had been getting irritated by these these random locks up for a while. It seems that uninstalling beautiful widgets fixed the problem for me. I thought it might be that BW was trying to access the GPS, but it still locked up after disabling geo location in BW.

In case you're still interested, BeWeather is a great substitute for BW and FlexT9 in place of Swype.
Also, I had issues with lockups no matter my overclocking and formatting the eMMC and possibly reseating the SD card fixed it.
