Hello,
I've been googling around for a workaround but I cannot seem to find one that actually works. The problem is, when I try to connect my phone to the PC and, for example, want to flash it with an official rom - it simply cannot find it. It can find the SD card when I mount it.
When I put it in, Windows attempts to install a few drivers but fails at the ADB. According to several sites, I can just use the one from HTC Sync or from the Android SDK. It installs fine but it still doesn't seem to be able to contact my phone. I cannot sync it either.
Anyone got an idea? I seem to be on my last nerve.
I dont have any problems here. What windows beta release do you use?
Final version. Released today. It's Windows 7 Professional.
First, set the phone to debugg mode...
Ok here we go (at least it works for me)...
1.- Remove the drivers actuaslly installed (it might get tricky, as I don't know exactly how to remove the registry keys)
2.- Once you have cleaned windows from the drivers, connect the phone to the computer and let it recognize everything (Probably it would not recognize the ADB drviers, so far we are good)
3.- After the drivers are installed, go and check in control panel/Devices Administration (or something like that... I have Windows in spanish so I don't know exactly how is called on english... By the way, sorry if my english sound a little bit weird =P..)
4.- Here you should see probably a device as "not recognized" or what ever is called... Here is the part where you need to select the driver manually.
5.- Check the phone driver folder (you should have it, if you don't get them)
6.- When you see the different options, select the one called HTC Dream Composite ADB Interface
7.- You are done =D...
I hope I made it clear enough for you...
If you have any doubt, add me to MSN xnofrostx - hotmail.com (I don't put the @ because I hate spam xD so you should add only the xnofrostx =P...
Hope you can get it to work...
I couldn't, for the life of me, get it to work so I put Windows XP on a vmware and flashed it through there. Works wonders.
Sorry for not being able to help.
I run Windows 7 Evaluation copy. I have had no problems. In fact there was nothing for me to set up, it just saw it on first attempt.

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate. Driver from AndroidSDK and HTC Sync works perfectly for me. I can access everything except cannot sync with HTC Sync.
Rogers Magic
Rooted
CyanogenMod 4.1.9999
I cannot sync either, when installing the sync program it gives an error but continues installation, then my phone says it cannot detect htc sync on my computer, but im gonna try this link http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7/

i am also using windows 7 beta and final
no issues at all. and i also think, that win7 is really good piece of software. far superious to win xp
Hey guys,
Reviewed alot of the posts here, but can't find out what the status is with the native functionality of cell modem access on Win 7...
I just got Windows 7 Pro installed (it isn't the beta, or hacked, it's retail), Everything is working (touchscreen, aero, etc...) with the exception of the native cell modem internet sharing.
I do know there is a hack by using the USB tool to get it working, however I'm just curious if anyone has it working the proper way as intended by HTC?
I'm noticing there are no devices missing drivers in the device manager, the HTC control app works fine, and even can control the modem on the snapvue side of things...
But there is still no "virtual" network adapater inside of the Network adapters on the system...
Scratch that...
I'm a tool. My shift has been sitting for 6 months after not being used until today when I decided to upgrade...
Totally forgot the virtual adapter only shows when no other connections are present...
Everything is working now
Hi!
How did you get the TS to work?
I've been trying to get the touchscreen to work with the latest W7 but no soceess. I've followed the guide on XDA and all tips on XDA but no sucess.
Could you maybe write down how you did even if it was just a regular installation? I've reinstalled and all but the ts just won't work!

To be honest, I was an idiot and had a horrible install... Here's what I did if you dare try..
1. Install all the drivers (NOT using compatibility mode and "Run as Admin")
Only a few things worked, it was horrible...
2. Re-installed ALL the drivers, using the list that HTC recomends. Keep in mind that the device manager will show some of the devices as not working, after you install all the drivers in Compatibility mode, along with "Run as admin". Go to the Device manager, and right click on all the problemtic devices and select "Uninstall".
3. Restart the computer, then Aero will start bluescreening and crashing. Boot into safemode (with networking). Go to the device manager and disable both Video card adapater shown.
4. restart and go to Intel's website and download the latest Chipset INF installer, and Video drivers for windows 7. Install the Chipset INI first, then video drivers...
5. At this point I can't remember but I thinnk the touchscreen didn't work. I just ran the Touchscreen installer one last time, and BANG it worked...
Sorry for my horrible instructions, it was a messy install, but everything is working for me now.
Thanks!
I't looks similar to how i've been fooling around with my shift.
Well, at least it's gratifying to know that i may get it to work if keep messing with it

Hi just have a quick question: When you upgraded your vista to Win 7, do you used the upgraded disk or start from the OEM win 7?
I actually didn't upgrade.
I used a Open Business Volume disc I have that was issued to my company. I guess it's the same thing as a retail copy.
I did a fresh install.

Thanks! It is OEM Disk. And one more think are you install the Win 7 pro or the ultimate? Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.
I could be wrong, but I think I did Win 7 Pro
Thanks again...I will try to install win7 pro on mine. I think 7 ultimate for Shift is too much coz the processor itself is only 800Mhz.
Hey guys,
I am sure this is a topic that has come up in the past, so bear with me.
i recently got a sprint HTC hero(converted by a friend from an iphone)
i hooked it up to my pc and i can't get HTC sync or windows to recognize my phone due to the drivers bug. Windows will only recognize it as a storage device.
I am currently running Windows 7 64 home edition.
i tried the solution posted on the unlocker but have had no luck.
(new user won't let me post link lol)
any help would be great
Thanks!

Indeed,... Let others know how to solve the issue.
Hey guys sorry it took so long for the reply, I was dealing with a family crisis and hadn't had much time to do anything.
you will have to find your sources for Sync and the drivers because i can't post links in the forum.
This is how I solved my problem:
1.Download latest specialized sync tool from HTC, namely HTC Sync 2.04 from HTC
2. Install the downloaded program on the computer. At this moment, your computer still won't recognize the HTC Hero.
3. Manually update the HTC drivers from Windows 7, using the Windows Vista drivers
by installing HTC Sync software on a machine running Windows Vista and then copying the drivers (namely androidusb.cat, androidusb.inf, androidusb.sys, htcrndis.cat, htcrndis.inf and WdfCoInstaller01007.dll in HTC Drivers folder) over to the Windows 7 machine. or you can manually download the drivers from someplace like theunlockr.
4.Extract the driver into a folder. For example, %SystemDrive%:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x64 (for the Windows 7 64-bit) or %SystemDrive%:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86 (for the Windows 7 32-bit) accordingly.
5.open devices and printers
6. right click your android phone and choose 'properties'
7. go to the "hardware" tab and again select "Properties"
8.on the general tab click"Change Settings"
9. Go to "driver" tab
10. Click "update Driver"
11. The window that pops up will ask how you want to find the driver. Be sure to select the option that allows you to browse your computer for the driver.
12. Navigate to where you saved and unzipped the driver.
13. reconnect phone
now if everything went well HTC sync should recognize your phone.
now if this doesn't work msg me and i will try and help you to the best of my abilities
I know this is a rather old post...but I have recently just switched back to the Hero after taking a trip to webOS land...I have followed these instructions to the letter, but my phone still does not show up in Devices and Printers...Do I need to be using exactly the version of HTC Sync mentioned here, or should newer versions work as well?
Also, in other places I have read, it mentions that the Hero should pop-up a notification asking to allow a connection to the computer or something...I haven't seen this...is there somewhere in an app setting that I may need to change a default value?

Stay calm bro. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your Shift. No need to contact HTC for now.
1. The USB extension kit has nothing to do with your original issue - Wi-Fi
2. Have you enabled Wi-fi. You know how to do this? Hit the Shift Control Centre button and then enable wifi from there.....
3. You need to install drivers
4. If all else fail start all over.
5. To re-install Windows Vista is piece of cake. Hit FN+F3 when the Shift is re-starting and you will be re-installing Vista in seconds.
6. But... Dont panic! Installing Windows 7, back to Vista, then off to 7 again and even back will not damage your device in any way.
7. Forget about the HTC people and their warranty bull****. As soon as you re-install Vista the device will be exactly the way it left the factory.....
8. You are in the right forum where the xda Community will assist you for as long as you are in need....

staff solved the problem, it was my wifi WPA2 was somehow the shift is not connected to this network type changed to wep and it worked perfect thanks for the help especially in the tips of all now I want to make calls and make it work gps
I am in need of the proper drivers for the HTC Shift. Everywhere that I have looked, the pages have been taken down. If anyone out there has the correct drivers, please help me out here. I know that there are more people than just me looking for these drivers, it would help a lot. Thanks!
I found a website with HTC Shift drivers. All of the titles are the same. However, I'm not too sure if they are correct or not. I'll give you a link. - http://www.softwarepatch32.net/flshift.htm
Any idea if these do anything?
I found another site with the same type of Drivers. 3 more than the other site though. - http://www.driverplatform.com/file_shift-x9500.html
Nope
Just a bunch of spammy links to install a program called DriverRobot. It did help with some things. However with the Wifi Driver it did not.
I just picked up a HTC Shift X9500 for the kids to play around on (instead of messing with my laptop )
Anyway, Vista sucks obviously, so I want to install Windows XP on this thing. I got windows installed ok. Installed all the drivers. However, here is the issue I'm having. If I DO NOT install the Video drivers, the WiFi adapter works & connects. I install the video drivers & the desktop looks nice, but then the Wifi doesn't work. Just shows as "Unknown Device" in the Device MGR. I can go back into the Device MGR & uninstall the video drivers & restart the system. Then BANG...the wifi is operational again. So, I'm not sure if I got a bad wifi driver or incorrect video drivers. Does ANYONE have all the drivers for this device (Using XP that is..)
It seems to run A LOT faster using XP over Vista. I know the device is old & very outdated, but it would be cool for the kids if I can get it working. There are instructions on this forum to install XP step by step but the links are dead & I can't follow the process. Anyone help??
