2.2 delay. I wonder if.. - Galaxy S I9000 General

In case you did not know T-Mobile and Orange have now combined which means we T-Mobile customers can now not only access the "3" network for data but the orange network also foe calls and texts. There are a couple of glitches though one being the need to have roaming turned on (don't get charged for this within the UK) and a couple of settings changed so we can receive picture messages.
So. I wonder if the T-Mobile delay is due to this and as they put out all networks at once whether this is affecting the other rollouts?
Just a theory.
Loving the extra coverage though. Never lose a signal now.

Yeah I'm with Orange and the coverage isn;t that great.
I believe for now the roaming only works on 2G so I hope you have your phone set to that, else it['s all in your mind
I doubt the delay has anything to do with Orange, it's much more likely a Samsung thing than an operator thing. At the end of the day the phone hasn't been that heavily modded by Orange, it's only installed a few apps.

As I said the Orange network is used for texts and calls so yes 2G. 3G comes from T-Mobile and the "3" network. So I get best of all worlds now.
I sent them a tweet and had a very encouraging reply.

Hi Roger, we should be getting this release very soon, we have been advised early October, the Orange merger has no bearing on this update.

Eh, 2.2 hasn't even been released by Samsung yet so there's no way T-Mobile can 'delay' a release right now since it's not even out yet.
As far as I'm currently aware, the Froyo update has been pushed back to end October / beginning of November.
Since the update is going to be released through Kies there's nothing T-Mo can do to delay it unless they have a custom version of the 2.2 firmware they can keep back but I doubt they'll do that.
Besides that, it doesn't make any sense for them to hold the update back. They need to sort out a few things on their side of the network, it has hardly anything to do with the firmware. The only thing they might need to do is push new settings to customers but that can easily be done later without holding back the 2.2 upgrade.

Iy doesn't work like that in the UK. Samsung supply the build to the networks here for testing. They find bugs/problems/customisation glitches and send it back to Samsung for fixes. The cycle continues until all are satisfied.

Still, 2.2 is not out yet, Samsung doesn't even have an official unbranded build yet so there's no way on earth T-Mo UK can currently be delaying a branded the update.
As long as Samsung hasn't announced that there's a 2.2/Froyo update available, T-Mo will just have to wait like everyone else.

[tracking] Nexus 1.5 (3G bands 1, 2, 5)

So apparently Google is coming out with a N1.5 with 3G Band I (2100Mhz), II (1900Mz) and V (850Mhz), versus the N1 Bands I (2100Mhz), IV (1700Mhz) and VIII (900Mhz).
I do not understand why Google's flagship HTC handset doesn't support every frequency and they (whomever "they" may be) simply enable/disable in software?!
Anyway, I guess this means N1.5 will work on AT&T 3G.
Any insider tracking the Google release date for the AT&T capable Nexus?
Care to share an actual source?
Refering to this i assume.

Yeah, I saw this a long time ago. There was an article on cnet.

no official source. just internet surfing and that's why i am asking here to hear if anyone has update info... like maybe a google or htc spy
I was told by my AT&T representative for the SE region of RS that the phone is ready and is being tested to meet AT&T specs for speed on not only 3G but the upgraded HSPA networks. They however did not specify a date other than 2010 for the AT&T version. Soooo.... we shall see, normally they are right with the products coming to the market, like the Moto backflip which I knew personally was going to AT&T over a year ago.

LOL this I didn't, being an avid android lover from day one my AT&T rep got to know me because of the question when we would get an android device.
But AT&T being the best service in my area I can't wait for this!

dahui9: thanks for sharing what you heard
There is no chipset/antenna design that supports all UMTS bands at the same time. The bgr was just wrong, there are two distinct bb9700: one for t-mobile and one for att.

Yeah, that is a sad excuse of an Android phone. ATT is going the way of the big V. No open access to an open source project.
Just stupid if you ask me.

I wonder what they are going to do to the nexus..remove the unlockable bootloader perhaps? I also wonder if Verizon is going to do the same...
Being on ATT with a nexus one, I really do want to be excited by this news as I am tired of being on edge (thankfully I have wifi available most of the time), but I am concerned about the lengths ATT will go to after seeing what they pulled with the backflip.
I will just sit and wait and watch. Worst case scenario, my cell contract will run dry next year and if ATT buggers up the nexus I can always migrate to TMO with a new contract...best case scenario...I can sell my current nexus to offset the cost of a new one that will take advantage of ATT's 3g...hopefully by then all those dreaded iphones will have moved on reducing the dropped call rate and slow 3g found in my area (seattle).
Two changes needed to support different 3G bands:
1. Antenna
2. Baseband firmware

Oh I know it. The moment I got rid of my G1 in favour of an iphone when I swtiched from tmo -> att I knew I made a mistake...
I have zero regrets about having the nexus; here's hoping ATT doesn't get a bug up its arse and handicap an amazing device because they seem to run their company as though they have pants on their heads.
[deleted] ....dead thread...

Any US carrier getting it?

have they announced what us carrier its comming to officialy?
ive heard at&t and ive heard T-mobile...
i would say probably none. but i did just see a video from CITA that has a rep saying "we haven't officially named any US partnership" which could mean nothing.. but who knows..
either way i'll be getting the phone and using it on ATT
can't wait till ROGERS has the phone. it'll be easier to get one online once they do
It will be announced by one of the companies 1 year after its release... as usual.
I've seen a few videos online that show the X10 with AT&T branding on the home screen.
With the way AT&T is going with Android, they'll need some time to lock down the OS and make it as non-open as possible.

What are you talking about?
One version supports AWS 1700 (WCDMA-IV), a specific T-Mobile US band (+ a Canadian provider) - it's not too far fetched to see TMO picking it up as soon as possible...
You think maybe he was poking a little fun at the carriers mostly slow release schedule? Relax man, aint nothing going on here worth getting worked up over.

ditto.
again. even if it is picked up. it'll probably be long after the phone has lost interest.. at least here in US
ATT
I was told by the manager of the ATT in Honolulu Wednesday that they wil be getting it very soon( could be bull**** as I do not know him personally) but there was a couple of operator issues to be worked out. He figured that it was about 30-45 days out. Roger Wireless Canada is already showing the phone on their website which usually means that it will be available withing 30 days from them.
What operator issue? Anyone who has used a Rogers HTC Android on AT&T knows that as long as the APN is known, everything works. Ditto with the Nexus One.
Operator issue is code word for: Lets bloat it up with useless software like the Motorola Backflip.
I would rather pay more for the phone rather than having a subsidy.

I had also seen videos and pics of the X1 with AT&T panels... but that didn't happen. Eitherway, I'd prefer for the X10 NOT to be released on AT&T and to be sold directly through Sony Style (with the prerequisite ATT 3G bands of course), that way I can continue using my $10 unlimited data plan instead of the mandatory $30 PDA data plan with smartphones sold through ATT.

How long till Bell Atrix gets any updates?

6 months? 1 year? Never?
Not like this is a surprise.
Seriously! ATT rolling out another update while nothing from Bell.
Just like the ATT customers, we should be pressuring Bell to enable HSUPA at a minimum.

Skype works, Mangle (Ventrilo) works... Its great.
They are going to release an update. Just right this moment. It comes threw Motorola, NOT Bell.
Motorola's Priority is on a bigger phone company right at this moment. and that is Att.
Soon.

A software update is now available for the Bell version of the Motorola Atrix!
- To download the update manually:
Go to: Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Update
- I'm not sure what the size of the update file is, but I would suggest downloading it over WiFi as opposed to the Bell network so you don't exceed your data allowance and incur extra charges.
- Ensure that your phone is at least 50% charged before attempting the update. Idealy, charge it beyond 50% to be safe.
-- The updated version is v37.23 and brings Android Froyo up to version 2.2.2, and contains numerous updates:
Upload Data Speed
Increased upload speed at which data can travel on the network.
Data and Voice Connection

Canadian providers are horrible with updates. I used to have a Rogers Nokia E71 that never got any updates at all. I would have been stuck to the original firmware if I didn't knew how to change the phone ID to be able to load Vanilla International firmware. No less than 5 firmware updates were released when Rogers got ZERO.
I don't think I will ever buy another carrier branded phone after my AT&T Atrix.

Actually Telus isn't too bad. Their HTC Desire was on schedule, plus the SGH-T959D was perfectly on time for updates.
I just wish Telus had this phone instead of Bell. IMO they are a lot more on top of things...

T-Mobile sent me a txt message...

I was sent an automated txt message saying I 'qualified for an upgrade', so, for grins and chuckles I called to kind of inquire. I think the lady was from India or something because I don't think she quite understood what I was asking but, she did inform me that their trying to upgrade all their customers to equipment compatible with At&t. She also informed me that equipment changes must be made before May 2012 when the conversion to At&t is complete. Startling news considering I thought the FCC is still mulling over the legal stuff and here I'm told the deal is already done.....sucks if it's true because I loathe At&t with a passion. Just thought I share this information with all of you.
She's probably just giving you generic whatever and has no idea on what's going on really.
Recently I've noticed a peculiar increase in dropped calls on my and my wife's G2s, as well as two friends... li wonder if we were pushed the same OTA upate, either that or the AT&T network switch may have already happened
Well the odd thing(s) I've noticed is a specific area where I used to get full bars of 3G has now reverted to EDGE service. I say odd because T-Mobile was the only 3G service in said area not even Verizon or Sprint had 3G. Now all of a sudden At&t pops up, which never did before.
I called again because I was curious about the LG G2X and I was told similar information regarding At&t and May 2012. I really am a tad concerned, anyone else have any info regarding this date? I don't mean to come off paranoid but, that's 2 people now that gave the same exact date.
