Recently Skype has made their app finally available to the world.
Now it can work over WiFi.
(Find on their website or market)
I've tried it on NexusOne and it seems to work. Signs in (when their servers are not overloaded) and even makes calls (for free between online skype users).
On HD2 Android builds the story is different:
App installed and signs in, but will force close immediately at any attempt to do more than scrolling the list of contacts.
What are your experiences?
Edit: Could it be related to LCD Density? Or compatibility Mode?
I couldn not even sign in.It says can not conect and will forse close
it works fine for me.. but that is because i use the app from 3 uk.. but yeah no problems at all.. as they have the Desire in their device portfolio i just browsed to their website from a desire build and installed it..
No problems for me.it works perfect. I have darkstone's v3.1 version.i have download it from market

Do you use the default 240 LCD Density?
Ever since it's possible to increase it I've been use 16 or 180.
I am at the moment with NexusHD2 (2.2.1) build and I will try playing with another build later today, possibly it's an issue with Android 2.2.1.
Skype's working fine for me with Froyostone 3.1 (Desire) with Hastarin 7.1. First time I tried to login it gave an error for login, but I noticed it had to do with my internet connection which was already unstable both via 3G as well as WiFi. I updated my radio from 2.12.50.02 to 2.14.50.04 and now it works fine.
Sound is very clear and all features like skype credits and online numbers work properly. No videocalling yet, but hopefully we can expect it soon...
Thumbs up for Skype!
I installed it and everything worked perfectly...I was a little peeved to find out that it did not work over 3G so I uninstalled it.
Then I decided to reinstall it and wait it out for an update when we can make calls over 3G...now it will not even sign in....any ideas?
No problems for me. It works perfect.
RReckless
Eventually got it to login today.
Keep getting force close messages, especially when selecting the Details tab!
Ho hum...
Works perfectly.
Sometimes i cant hear the people talking but they can hear me and if i want to reboot it it takes along time to exit the app and right after that i will get an error to force close the app.
But when it works i can hear everyone clearlly and without any LAG.
Just reverted to 240 and it got working.
But I hate such big density on the hd2. That's the reason I avoid sense builds to make the most from the big screen :-(
Better use nimbuzz.

Skype works perfectly. I called my cousin overseas on Skype, he answered on his Nexus One. Sound was clear, with very little delay. Answering calls is a bit awkward because I was juggling it but in the end it was easy. being logged on to Skype increases battery drain, unfortunately. I went from 5mA standby to 45mA
Only one problem.
The screen was acting funny during the call when I held it to my ear. I'd move it back and forth to get it to turn off the screen. Sometimes it wouldn't, sometimes it would go dark but not turn off the backlight, sometimes it would.
Anyway, all of this is the app's problem, just need to wait for patches
I can't find it on market, and when i try downloading it from the skype website it says that it is not available for my device ??!? I'm using HyperDroid 1.5
I'm from Morocco, if there 's a restriction by country I do not see why it does not work from their website

A hacked Skype was recently released, allowing you to use 3G. check Engadget for more info.
i'm running mattc's 1.8 with r7.2 kernal, 2.14 radio and energy wm rom. the app loads fine and setup ok. on my first and so far only call i could hear the other party but they could not hear me. the connection sounded very bad and i called back not using skype. that was over 3g so i don't know if i just had a not so strong signal or if it was something else. going to try on wifi and retry on 3g somewhere else. will update results.
Can you guys quit skype or stop it from running? seems to be leeching my battery power..

The same problem with Samsung Galaxy S. Sometimes works, sometimes does not. Sometimes clearing cash helps, sometimes not. Sometimes restart of the phone helps, sometimes not.
I think this is the general problem of Android 2.2 devices.
For me, it has actually turned data off. I have had to go to settings and turn it back on.
Today, I had to set WCDMA only for it to work. On GSM or WCDMA it showed a 3G connection, but no data would actually pass... how can that be?
I read other devices and ROM's are facing similar issues currently so I really think the Market is just unstable right now
I have try everything as well and no luck at all? It is the system problem or the market is down??
I've tried all that and still can't download. Was working fine earlier this morning, and yesterday
One app got installed a few hours back. However, just tried another app which does not get installed.
Glad to hear more people have market issues, that makes a general market problem more likely...

I've tried WiFi on and WiFi off some days and I really can't see any difference. With my hero I could see a definite difference.
As far as GPS goes, i thought it was only used when called upon by certain programs?

Thread closed....I thought the " Known issues on HTC Desire HD....post your problems or issues here" was created for these type of concerns.
...and it is beeing posted here from single fact - for the very first time it seems to work OK on Wildfire (tested on OpenFire 2.3), or at least UI does not crash where it used to crash previously.
Chat is OK too, I have not tested IP phony yet.
I can sign in alright .. if I place call on speakerphone it is decent but when I put it on my ear something is happening with the proximity sensor and the quality is really bad.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Skype eating your data plan traffic?
It consumed about 70MB of my internet traffic using it : ~12 hours overnight (just logged in), ~6 hours during the day (made 3-4 calls average duration ~2-3 mins). I think it's too much traffic consumption - what do you think? Did you notice the same things?
Link to skype 1.0.0.614
Hi,
Here is the Skype 1.0.0.614 .apk!
Hope it works, haven't tested yet.
Cheers!
I got this error when trying to install, though I have enough space.
Anyone got the same?
I have SGS Froyo official update unrooted.
Nope. Anyway 1.0.1 should be out now according to Skype blog. I cannot find it thought.

Well it didn’t ask me for calibration but it doesn’t answer the problem as my phone just turns off anyway.
can sum1 upload the ts calibration file for blackstone
im reverting to froyo 2.2
Calibration file
Dont revert , I like this build and it's verry stable, 12h+.
It asked me for the four points, but I noticed that the square points wont show up, just push each corner starting from upper left and down when it ask for it, it will ask if you dont have any calibration file.
or try with another calibration file...

FRX06 froze up the first few times i tried it as well. Then i remembered a few tricks and went through a whole installation ritual:
- First boot without SIM card. Boots to HOME SCREEN, not lock screen. Will freeze after about a minute. Pull battery.
- Second boot without SIM card, with auto-install of Battery Booster, AppInstaller and ClockSync. Boots to LOCK SCREEN. Unlock and setup APN and save it. It won't show but it will be remebered. Setup any other settings if desired.
- Third boot WITH SIM. DONOT unlock before you see the name of your carrier on the screen. Unlock and go straight to APN settings to check if the dot is ticked.
If not ticked, tick it and prepare to have a frozen Blackstone once again.
Should be fine on fourth boot, and stay that way if you use the Battery Booster wake-up trick (see my signature) and ClockSync in high-precision-mode.
BTW: I find that pulling the battery for at least 5 seconds works better than soft-resetting.
EDIT: it seems there is a fix for the SOD issue in the form of a modified and more stable RIL by highlandsun. TRY IT OUT!!! works for lots of people, me included though i've only been using it for 24 hours. so far no SOD!

I brainstormed a little on this (but i'm not Einstein so...) and i think it's a problem between the information on your SIM card and the info coming back from the network.
Have you had the SIM for a long time? O2 used to be BT's mobile division.
I would call my service provider, tell them i got a new Android phone (a Desire or something), explain the problem and ask for a new SIM card.

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone and introduce myself.
I'm fairly new to posting, as I have been sitting back and searching and reading to get all my info.
My name is Dan and I have a HTC Incredible with recently flashed MIUI 1.12.9 and 2.6.38.8-incredikernel-12/08/2011. I have used McTwist and Nils Business GingerSense ROMs in the past. I find MIUI to run great on my phone and its custom UIs are great. I run LauncherPro to give me back my app drawer instead of having all my apps on multiple screens.
Thanks to all the developers and everyone who made rooting possible. Keep up the great work.
Quick question..
I just came from MIUI, same specs, back to CM7.
I'm having issues, where the wifi on my phone will disconnect when the phone screen turns off...
I use this handset as a home-line, radio..
When i plug it up to the speakers, and let the music play... as soon as the screen shuts off.. so does my wifi..
i use DI.fm for my radio app
GrooveIP for my goovle Voice line,
and Google Voice Text messaging app for texts.
Please, if you have noticed this issue, or would mind testing it with MIUI, that would be great.
I have been running CM7 mostly.. but, last week i decided to see what all the hype about MIUI was..flashed, was working well, then all of a sudden the wireless thing appeared.
Come to think of it,
we did switch wirelessrouters out about the time the issue was noticed...
Let me do some more testing with the old router, and see if that makes any difference.
Welcome to the forums!!!! ;]
Thanks in advance for any input\testing\results you may come across

Change your sleep policy in advanced settings?
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
Yup, it's been on 'always on' the entire time... I changed it back and forth between the three options just to see, as well, and still the same issue.. :/
Going to test the old router and see if it is something with that..
Results soon
Edit:
Okay, it's something to do with how the phone handles the router..
The old router, linksys e2100l, works fine. When the screen turns off, the wifi connection stays active.
The new router, rspro, for some reason drops about thirty seconds after the screen shuts off. :/
The linksys e2100L is running the latest ddwrt software,
The router station pro is running the latest openwrt backfire port. With ath9k wifi drivers.
I'll look more into this and see what's going on. I have a feeling this might be a cm7 universal issue, so i might get my hands on some more devices to test..

Just so you don't think I was ignoring you, I tested MIUI with just headphones and the MIUI music player and my WIFI stayed on. I don't use GrooveIP or DI.FM so can test that portion.
I do see that you have most likely solved your problem. Good luck getting new router to work

Post back here if you happen to come across a fix please!
I've been trying to find a fully working one but all patches I've found here in xda or google break contacts. I've even opened up a few patch zips and mixed matched them to see if I can get some thing working without breaking contacts but no avail.

i tried that zip and got random reboots, kills wifi, and general instability.
In my experience, the wi-fi fix .apk that is currently circulating seems to make otherwise-stable ICS ROMs behave very erratically (on top of the Chinese 800 numbers and contact pictures). I was having similar issues with random reboots.
For myself it's not a blocking feature, but I would say that if you're in an area where you need wi-fi calling to work due to signal, you should probably try to stick with GB ROMs (where wi-fi calling is rock-solid) or ICS-themed launchers over GB ROMs.

I've actually been trying Dark Unicorn 2.5 and that seems to have working wi-fi calling in ICS without any add-ons (disclaimer: It's *on*, I haven't tried it extensively yet). For Gingerbread, I used Virtuous Unity for a very long time and its wi-fi calling worked fine. I'd guess that just about any GB ROM porting from Sense should have it working pretty well.
