Are you using a wireless N router? And what encryption protocol are you using? Try WPA2 Personal/8 characters minimum/AES encryption. Note: TPIK with wireless N routers are known to cause conflicts and/or incompatibility issues with WPA2.

I factory reset my phone and tried a different google profile, finally I tried wep 64 and was able to connect and router, if I use wpa2 it will not route, anyone else having that same issue should I take it to a verizon store? Just did some more research looks like it has problems like the droid x where you have you use wpa instead of wpa2, not very happy with this at least I get 3g in my apartment, wonder if it will ever get fixed though.
Using WPA2 here with no issues. Might be your router? Try to update your routers firmware for kicks and giggles.

It's up to date, everything I have been reading through google searches says it doesn't support AES only TKIP.
Not sure then man. I have mine working just fine via AES here.

Are you sure? My router works with both and if I set it to AES only it stops working and won't route, now I have it set to work with both and it works.
hmmm... somehow i found with current wifi libs (fb/gdx/mcm207) i can connect to ANY 802.11g wireless with any security setting (WEP/WPA(TKIP/AES) with no issues.
however i recently changed my router to an N-based one and no matter what i do it refuses to connect even after i set it to G-only mode. does anyone have a workaround? i'm on a Belkin router and no, DD-WRT doesn't work on it. this is also the case on any N-based router that i've tried to connect to since. all have failed.
on GDX now after coming from FB023. Barnacle stopped working for me after FB012. any ideas anyone? tks

You can try Enabling N standard on your phone or set your router to g/b mode only.
done both =) still no go =(
For some reason, my HTC One handles my wifi fine...but my S4 is sloooooooow.
The images will show what I'm talking about. Same WiFi connection, same spot in the living room. Any ideas why this may be?
I have the 24mbps from U-Verse and my laptop, iPad Mini, and Xbox are also having no issues, so the only thing slow is my S4.
NEVERMIND, AFTER FOUR RESTARTS IT FINALLY FIXED ITSELF...

Which wi-fi router are you using? I had a D-Link which would not work with the S4 and it turns out that there are compatibility issues between D-Link and Samsug phones. It would work everywhere else, AT&T hotspots, my work w-fi, etc. I had to run out and get a new router. It now works flawlessly.
No problem here, glad yours resolved itself.

Is this a known issue? I just got a S4 and have a D-Link Extreme gaming router and the phone will just not work. I refuse to change my router for a phone as all my other devices have no issues with this router.

It's a known issue in the sense that there are compatibility problems between D-Link routers and Galaxy phones.
I have not really had issues with my 4500. After some deep searching I was able to get it to work with the right settings. So I will keep my router which works on all my devices.
So, that's it; no solution just screwed if we own a DLink router? Blah... lame. What a bummer.

I have a Dlink DIR-655 wireless n router and I'm having the same issues with my phone/router. The issue seems to be with the dlink implementation of wireless N. Force your router to use wireless G and all probs go away.... I know this isn't a solution, because if your like me... you stream video... and G sux for that!
but its a fix in the short term....

I'm using a relatively new Netgear R6300 that has 802.11AC connectivity but can only get the S4 to connect to it on 802.11G - is there a way to change the band frequency to 5GHz so it can support the AC mode? I cannot find any options in the Advanced when connecting to the router.

Anyone have any luck with this? I just purchased an R6250 and 5Ghz AC only connects at max 58Mbps when I'm standing right next to the router. I think it's more on the phone side. My Tab Pro connects at 433Mbps.

Was it just a design flaw with the phone? My wife's S4 Active seems to connect at 433mbs, but it's a slightly different phone.

Could be the phone, the driver, or the OS. I've seen many mentions of this issue with the S4.
Anyone else have problems with their GS4 auto connecting to 5GHz wireless network? Mine has no problem automatically connecting to 2.4GHz network, but will only connect to 5GHz manually (need to go into wifi settings settings and connect that way)

It's your routers firmware. I have a RT-N66U running Asuswrt-Merlin and it has the same issue with 5GHz.
ASUS developers are working on it.
In case it's useful, I have a Netgear WNDR3700 running DD-WRT and have no issues with the 5GHz band.
Sweet, thanks for the info guys

My phone has problems staying connected to wifi. It's often disconnected and has to reconnect when I wake my phone up (even though it's set to not turn off during sleep) and it'll disconnect and reconnect sometimes even when the phone is awake. I've read about people having problems with D-Link routers, but none of my routers are D-Link. The problem seems to have improved a lot after I flashed my modem to the MDL modem, but it still comes up. Does anyone have any solutions or would anyone know what could be causing this? I'm currently running the Wicked rom but I had this problem even when my phone was completely stock. Has anyone had this problem go away after switching to an AOSP-based rom?

I still have this problem, it disconnects and reconnects minutes later. I am on stock, stock kernel and rooted. could it be a root problem?
It can't be a root problem because I had this problem even when the phone was completely stock. I'm wondering if it's a TW problem, which is why I asked if anyone still had this problem after switching to AOSP (the Wicked rom I'm running now is TW).
If it were me, I would try a different modem, but thats just me.
Is there a thread with the available modems?

Just because it isn't a DLINK wireless ap doesn't mean you won't issues. All the consumer-grade wireless routers/ap's share a narrow range of chipsets made by broadcom, atheros, etc.. So, the brand has nothing to do with it.
I would suggest getting a logcat if you can or try another wireless ap somewhere else. I've got a TPLINK wireless router with OpenWRT flashed, runs flawless.

I never said that only D-Link routers have problems. There's a well-known issue with D-Link routers so I wanted to state up front that I don't have any D-Link routers in case anyone wanted to suggest that it could be the cause.

He said the option was only available while originally connecting and setting up the connection for the first time. Maybe you can try to delete the wifi connection all together and then let it re-detect and go through the set up process again...if that is an option.
My phone was doing this on my friends router but not on my home router. He searched google & found something stating that the S4 dont like routers with AES encryption for the security. He changed his router security to TKIP+AES encryption & the next time I was there wi-fi stayed connected with no constant reconnect problems. Buuuut, my home router security is just AES & I have no issues connecting to it, yet at least. Dont know if this will help anybody else out but its worth a shot to play with your routers security settings.
I thought I had an issue with my I337 S4 do the same thing.turns out my phone was just bouncing around trying to connect to 6 other open WiFi signals I've used
So just to give an update, I tried installing another router in my house as an access point and the phone has no problems staying connected to it, so there's definitely something that the phone doesn't like about the other routers that I'm running. I'm reluctant to say that there's anything "wrong" with my old routers because no other device had a problem staying connected, but if anyone else experiences the same problem, changing routers/APs could work. Fwiw, my old routers had Broadcom chipsets while the new one has an Atheros chipset. I'm going to try updating the firmware for the old routers to see if it helps (I run DD-WRT and Tomato on all of my routers).

I'm having the same constant-disconnect issue as well and searching for solution.
I'm rooted, on stock rom and cant find any "key management" option at initial connect. Issue was happening when unrooted as well.
No issues when connected to router at work, but have connected two other, albeit older android devices to home router without issues.

However, upon confirming this morning, it is set to auto WAP/WAP2. Will try WAP2-only tonight, unless this won't make a diff?

WPA/WPA2 decreases the bandwidth of the router. WPA2 will support a full 300Mbps link state. So yea, they are different, but it may not fix it.
I have a Cisco EA6500, so I'm connected to the AC 5Ghz band, and it works flawlessly. WPA2 Personal
My bad on typing WAP instead of WPA.
Doesn't sound like fully opening up the bandwidth will fix it.
Has something to do with how the phone manages the encryption keys?
