Well, only if you have 4g coverage, but still... As a Verizon customer all my life I have never been able to do this. Just think of the possibilities that we have now... I can talk to friends AND look at online porn at the same time
EDIT: don't know why i put this in Incredible section, should be in Thunderbolt section... oh well, a lot of us will probably be upgrading to it anyway

That's cool. 4G for data, 3G for voice. I don't know if that would be a huge deal though.

I doubt I'll get 4G for a while where I am, so I guess I'll have to live with 3G + WiFi for my voice + data needs.

Most people probably wont use this feature. Its just something ATT could gloat about for awhile, but really who needs to browse the net while talking that much where its a significant feature.
When I was on T-Mobile with the Nexus One, I actually did use voice and data a few times when the girlfriend was lost (shocker) and needed me to pull up Maps to help her out. It has been slightly frustrating on Verizon to have to hang up and call her back. It'll be nice to have that option again.
I doubt many ppl are gonna upgrade, doesnt really have many
new features. No hdmi, what a joke, epic fail.

You're right. Other than a new 45nm processor, four times faster GPU, 50% more RAM, LTE, Dolby Surround, noise cancelling mics, new HTC Sense, DLNA, wireless N, Bluetooth EDR, and front facing camera, there isn't much the Thunderbolt has over the Incredible.

Maps will work on verizon while you are on the phone. Well it continues to work if you already have choosen a destination, don't know if it would still work if I just wanted to look up directions.

Dolby? really? who the f cares? new sense isnt that much different, its already been leaked and am already using the features, so meh again. I already have wireless N, so meh again. Dont need the Ram, so meh. Noise cancelling mics? cmon dude.
Wow man. enjoy your new toy. Other than screen size sounds like a waste. I figured no HDMI would make my case but I guess I had to go there. Sorry to kill ur topic, i didnt mean it.

Exactly, only purpose i could see (before DLNA was confirmed anyway) would have been the ability to share your videos via HDMI, so if you went to a friends/family members house and wanted to show your camcorder videos you could via HDMI, it would be as simply as a connection to the TV via the HDMI cable.
But now that mirroring has been unveiled by LG on there Optimus line of phones, Optimus 2X and Revolution, it might be a cool and all to see your games and UI on a big screen tv, but not really necessary since theres DLNA on board and most TV's anymore that are flatscreen or HD have it built in especially with the rise of internet capable tv's like my Samsung 52"
DLNA works great on the new sense and i love how its two way where you can control the content via the phone to the TV or from the PC to the phone and vice versa.
to the TV you can use the phone as the remote, control the playback, pause it turn the volume up and down and all that, just like a boxee minus the TV controls anyway lol
i can't wait till this phone launches, i love the new sense and its ability to have skins and the other features like Locations and Navigation by TomTom (it was confirmed after it launched on the Desire HD that TomTom was the maps/navigation provider)
if you look at all the options we have on this handset, it might not be a dual core phone but its definitely worth an upgrade from the Incredible, which reminds me
if Verizon does it the way i think they are, and launch after the 22nd, all the Original launch day Incredible owners would be eligible to upgrade to the ThunderBolt (assuming they got a 1 year contract, which i always get so i don't get burned when a new handset arrives the year after).
but it kinda makes sense,
launch the successor to a phone like the Incredible right after the time they become eligible to upgrade during there 1 year agreement, if i recall, they did this with the launch of the Droid X for the OGD owners, so timing really is everything.

Let's not forget, ATT gloated about it as if it were an ATT feature and not a complete accident by way of the network technology they used. Back when I was on T-Mobile I met more than a few people who didn't believe they could do it too.

The six years I was on Cingular, AT&T and T-Mobile, I never used the data + voice feature. I have had to give my girlfriend directions the other day and I just said, let me call you right back, I pulled it up on maps and called right back.

I for one honestly don't care about HDMI out. Like someone else stated above, I will leave HD to my PC and TV.

True. I had a BB Curve, and being on the phone trying to pull up the Browser/Google Maps to get directions or anything was slower than hell...much easier just to look up and call back, you are correct there!
I am 42 yrs so for me a bigger screen without the cumbersome height of a droid x is worth considering. New sense is truly awesome too (now that I have played on the Z/HD ports) and the extra features are welcome. However, currently the Incredible is a truly open platform to us and we have no idea what HTC will do or be forced to do on the thunderbolt's bootloader. What if they go the motorola way?
As you can see from my sig I am a rom slut/whore/whatever is the male equivalent. I worry that HTC will make it harder for us to root the thunderbolt and that alone will be enough for me to rule out that phone. So I will seriously consider it only if I find out that it can be nand unlocked. Until then, no point switching from the inc to a phone that cant be modded and to be locked down into whatever the carrier allows me to do. That would be a bad trade. Plus LTE towers will only slowly be percolating across the country. I do not believe LTE will be widely available everywhere we are immediately. Why not wait a bit before paying for LTE service? Believe me, it will cost you more.
I also did not like the small battery. What if the energy utilization efficiencies are only marginal? That would not be good. The included 32gb micro sdhc card is worth some $ but think about this - why did they think they had to throw a free 32gb card in?
Another thing that concerns me is that while this phone might have better specs than the inc, it is not dual core (seems six months on every phone will be dual core) so is this a significant upgrade to the inc? I dont know. Early adopters may have a better toy only for a short period of time. The initial tech curve is always very steep.
My 2 cents
My Gf plugged my old evo into her cable box and screwed it, the battery is bloated and no power now, i used SBC on it with savage-zen for a few months but it was off and running CM7 on the phone, i dont have access to another evo battery yet and before sending it to sprint i wanted a lil info.
1. What are the cances of the phone also being fryed? I'm thinking it's a high chance
2. If it is and i send it in to asurion, you think theres anyway theyll be able too see it was s-off?
Thanks guys and sorry if this is in the wrong section..

1. Hard to say. 50/50
2. Not if the phone is truly fried.
I was a tech for Verizon before I worked for Best Buy and your phone should be fine. I would see this all the time (especially on LG phones) and when you put in a new battery, the phone would work just fine. I can't promise you the same thing, but your battery is probably just shot.
Thanks guys, i'll have a battery tonight and i guess i'll see than...
I just retired my 3000 mAh battery because it was bloated, and yes I was using SBC kernels also. Im back on the OEM battery and the phone works fine.
Dear D,
HC 3.2 will be released early August.
Our engineers informed us that it is the HDMI cable you are using that is the problem. With similar cases they have had a new cable solved the issue.
Kind regards,
Asus UK Support Team
If that is legit someone is brave. Although that isnt out of line since ASUS has said they already had test builds going. Given the fact that they are running on basically the same guts as the Xoom and minimal (and i wish they would drop the icon skins) customization it doesn't seem out of line to think they could turn it around quickly.
Honestly its the second big point I chose the TF. The keyboard and the thought that since its basically a Xoom with a nicer screen it shouldnt take too much for them to update Android.

I doubt it's the HDMI cable. The cable works on my other display. I tried 2 different cables too. Others are reporting the same issue with Panasonic Viera plasma TV's. I have replied saying this is the case and basically it sounds like they are trying to fob us off with an excuse. Pointed them to the relevant thread where others are investigating it. I'm not going to let it lie. They will hate me in the end (If not already)

+1 TF will not play on my 42" but will on my 37". Xoom plays on both. Yes, different cables but I'm with you, I don't think it is the cable.

I'm going to the GS3 soon. Have you flashed enough to see if there are any annoying bugs that we have, like GPS and 911? Not saying the GS3 will have the same problems, but I'm wondering if there's anything on that level of discomfort.
You can donate the vibe to a developer, it wouldn't cost so much to replace the port.

Don't worry, new phones like the Note and S3 have aGPS and Glonass, so they are very quick at picking up GPS signal. Infact I haven't had much GPS problems for SII and onward models.
As for 911 issues you might want to confirm at the SIII section.

Well looks like my Vibrant is also no longer charging or connect to the PC due to broken USB port also. I opened it but it seems the contact points are too extremely small and close together to manually solder it back properly with my ability. A regular microUSB connector only have a few solder points, this one have so many and they are like 1/10th mm large. It seems this design is bound to fail overtime due to the placement on the board.
So I bought a broken Vibrant on ebay for $35 with a front facing camera. With luck its motherboard and USB port are still working. Otherwize I'll have to do external charging and transfer files wirelessly. It seems everything is easy to replace on this phone except the USB port which is also the most fragile design.
Well sorry for hijacking the thread more, but the broken phone I bought arrived, apparently the reseller didn't realize it was the S 4G, not the Vibrant. Things I've found:
1. Switching the S 4G camera onto the Vibrant is possible, but one have to use something metal and pointy to carve a transparent hole through the Vibrant black paint on the inside so the front camera can see through outside. Now I just have to find a rom that is compatible with ffc.
2. Switching the S 4G mobo onto the Vibrant turned the Vibrant into a S 4G.
3. The connector for the headphone jack of the S 4G is incompatible with the Vibrant. The headphone jack is tried to the earspeaker with the same cable, it is possible to remove them if careful.
4. The 'slim slot + sd card' module of the S 4G and Vibrant are compatible with each other. The sim slot has adhesive to stick ontop of the shielding, removing it needs some care. The S 4G and Vibrant sim slot are not compatible with the Captivate (i897) sim slot, they use different connectors. (Also the sim slot module for the S 4G and Vibrant also has the connector for the speaker, while Captivate's sim slot do not have connector for the speaker.)
If you're getting rid of the Vibrant I'd be happy to send a SASE for it. Obviously only if you were going to throw it out. I'm just getting started trying to develop and I have another vibrant that I could charge and swap batteries. Anyway, PM me either way. Thanks

on my S4 i have the iBolt Dock and run the iBolt app when its in the dock. i use the micro-USB cable from the phone that has the USB and 3.5mm headphone jack on the other end. i plug the 3.5mm into the AUX in for better sounding Spotify and Pandora however when i get a call i hit answer and the call is over BT to my truck.
so if i understand your concern correctly then on the S4 you get AUX out and BT phone at the same time and i would assume the Note 3 would be the same.

I am sorry , i dont really speak high .
but from what i could decipher : Scott is not really a bootloader dev , nor does he mess with recoveries . His roms are amazing , clean and reliable. But if Scott sees a non rooted , locked bootloader , he wont touch that phone.
I understand root is very different that locked bootloader, and he did make roms for the rezound with a locked bootloader, before they figured out s-off.
I am not sure , however, how all that ties with bluetooth and aux simultaneously as well as surf and talk on 3g that happens on my s3 , and what that has to do with Scot !

I would hold off for a dev edition if you want to mod this device...word is Beans is getting one. After what happened with the S4, I doubt anybody will put the effort into trying to unlock a qualcom device. Best hope is for something like a kexec or safetstrap workaround.

Not much...been away from android, have not had alot of time to mod. Also I have lost some interest since all of the locked bootloader crap has started. development is not what it use to be imo. I am still thinking about getting a N3, especially if a dev version is released.
