problem with synchronizing when switching to WM6.5 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
Everytime when I switch back from Android to WM 6.5, I have a problem with synchronizing Outlook and my HD2. It doesn't synchronize and I am receiving a message that the device has changed. I have to make a " full synchronization", which results in some duplicates appointments.
I would like to add that I don't synchronize my device when using Android.
How can I resolve this problem?
Thanks for help.
Daniel

Your device shouldn't synchronize with exchange anyway if you don't have set up an exchange account in Android?

I don't have a server, I don't use Exchange but I am always receiving this message:
"There has been a change made on your server that requires you to resynchronize" All changes will be lost...."
Daniel

Just for my understanding:
You have an exchange account in WM but no in Android?
And everytime you go back to WM and try to synchronize your stuff you are prompted that something didn't work right?
Sorry, didn't get it right

Not true. It works with windows live mail, I have mine working. Where exactly are you getting stuck? I may be wrong, but I think you may need an account with the @live.com as opposed to the old @hotmail.com to get things working on your phone. But again, I might be wrong...
Really? When I try to sync I don't even have an Windows Live Mail option ... (I mean the program, not the @live.com).
it will automaticly update email only if you phone is online.
have a look here guys http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334621

Exactly, you can find it in windows live options.
But you have to always be connected to internet for that too work.

Installed it, but WM Sync program doesnt think its installed...

Do you have installed "outlook" or "outlook express" ?
In activesync do you see other options? like "files sync" or "media sync"?

I also hate outlook, coming thru win 98 to xp with outlook express which Im very used to.
I had to install outlook a few times to get it to work with my x1, my outlook is configured not to be the default mail program on the pc so I still use out-express on the pc and only start outlook for syncing the x1.
It (mine) keeps a different address book from express so you can configure what you want in outlook and sync to phone as required.
It took me a couple of hours to sort my contacts from uiq.

Reading already read emails IMAP

Hi guys,
i got an issue that i cannot solve and the search function didnt give any solutions.
I got gmail IMAP Account on my HD2 and when i click on send and receive, only the unread emails are downloaded.
I should be able to see all emails if i go to the folder "all emails" and press send/receive again, but altough it connects, it doesnt download anything.
So the question: Is there a way to see your already read emails on your mobile phone in wm6.5 with the hd2
Thanks in advance,
Ali
are you checking teh mail from another machine? (PC perhaps) that could be removing the messages once you send and recieve from there.

i do, but it doesnt remove or download them.
When going into my gmail account online, i still can see all entries.
i checked that already
Are they in the inbox or in "all mail" in Gmail?
Only those in the inbox will display. If your other PC moves them out of it (or gmail does it on its own once the mails are retrieved by the PC) they wouldn't show.
Must be such an issue, because I use 3 imap accounts on my HD2, that are also used by 2 other PCs, and everything's fine. Those are on my own server though.
If you use gmail on the HD2 you might want to use activesync instead of imap though....

They are not moved out, in my gmail account i can see all emails in "all mail" and "inbox"
But even if, the mobile email app also has a "all mail" folder of gmail so it should work anyway
The active sync thing is not a thing you can use when you arent at home. i would like to read new emails on my phone too.

I think I see what you mean, I encountered the same "issue" and found the solution "by accident": by default the Gmail account is set to keep emails from the 3 or 6 previous days, so that it erases the messages older than 3 or 6 days on you HD2. You can set a different time period, up to 30 days I think, but no sure...
The thing is I can't remember where it is... sorry, but that may be a lead...

No, it's actually better than just imap as it enables mail push. So instead of having to check mail every X minutes it's in permanent connection through activesync over data, and you simply receive mail as soon as it arrives on your gmail account.

i know, with wm6.1 you could assign that, this isnt possible anymore as the new account options are very few

oh! i didnt know that, do i have an "imap-like" function with it too even if using a non imap client such as "pop"? I mean are mails erased after syncing them to my mobile phone from server?
i ll go and start googling how to setup my mails through active sync ...
thanks for the hint!
hmm, no good finding in xda with google.
Kilrah, can you tell me where to set it up?
Its not the usual sync-email feature where you connect your phone to the connectivity center.
is it the "outlook" account when in email tab??
If yes, whats the server adress?
im confused )

Yes, works pretty much like imap.
Regarding how to choose for how many days it will display, it's still there, still at the same place. Don't forget to scroll the menu down

One last off topic question. Where are the emails saved to and how can i change it if it is the main memory?

going from winmo 6.5 to android

Hey all, i'm going from my winmo 6.5 install on my Touch Pro to the android system on the Evo(i've never used android before. i'm very excited!) whats the best way to transfer contacts, sms, mms, bookmarks, favorites etc to the android from winmo? in the past i would just use sprite mobile backup in conjunction with windows MyPhone service to transfer to the new winmo phone.
how does it work between two different OSes?
thanks!!
I too am in the same situation. My wife just went from WinMO 6.5 to Android (got a Hero, decided she didn't need the evo) and she ended up manually putting her contacts into google. Seemed like a pain.
I searched around and there are some paid apps out there to sync outlook and google, but I am not going to be to only do it once (abandoning outlook after this). Theres a sync plugin for outlook that google made, but it seems like you might need an exchange server in order to use.
I think there is a way to export your contacts into .csv and then import into google but that doesnt sound too great either (although better than doing it manually lol).
Anyone know of a good app to sync contacts and calendar from outlook to google (at least just for one time)?
You can use activesync on your winmo phone to sync your contacts and calendar to your gmail account, then when you get the evo, use the same gmail account to sync it all with that
backup your contacts to your google account from winmo, google has an exchange server you can sync using. do it right on the phone, search the winmo forums for exactly how, i did it over 6 months ago when the hero came out so i dont remember.

You're right, that probably would have been a good way. Unfortunately my HTC FUZE has died and I am on an oldschool smartphone (Cingular 2125, HTC Faraday, many other names) and I don't know if it has exchange/google sync support in its activesync.
Any software-solution ideas?
I use exchange server to sync all my data. If you dont have access to a exchange server then sync with google then resync with google on your android phone.
I am in the same boat. Unfortunately I dont want to merge gmail info with my phone. I was thinking about Sprite Migrate.... anyone use before?
http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
qu1nn
well, i can't get the google sync to work, so i'm going to give sprite a shot
sprite migrate looks interesting, is it free? All this research seems pretty time consuming, might just export to csv and manually input callendar lol.
would love just a simple sync from outlook to google... sigh...
Same here just made the switch from WM to Android (Sprint Hero) two weeks ago and couldn't be anymore happier. Android is fun, easy to learn and very customizable. Like all the above post, switching over contacts (not needed the other stuff) to gmail was super easy and save plenty of times. For me Android is here to stay and hopefully you too will learn to like it as much as I did. Good luck!!!

could you possibly run me through how you did it? i can't seem to figure it out! i tried using google sync, but it keeps telling me the server is not configured properly
If you have access to Exchange use that, if not use Gmail. Those are the methods I have used for other folks and it works fine.
clearly i need to learn to sync with exchange. last time i tried, it wiped my phone contacts and put all my work email contacts on there instead. whew! more learning!

Can I second this, can someone guarantee that if I set up an exchange partnership with google and have it sync contacts/calendar, that it will NOT wipe phone contacts and move googles over?

Well, its part of activesync.
Go to activesync on your phone, menu, add server source
server addy is m.google.com (and requires ssl)
username put FULL email addy (i.e. [email protected], you need the @gmail (or your server, some are googlemail, etc).com part)
then pick what you want to sync
you should be ok, the only thing I am worried about is if it replaces your phone contacts with its own or merges the 2, I might find out soon though... would just like someone to confirm with me
i tried that and it would start to sync then give me an error saying "the exchange server is not properly configured" and wouldn't go anywhere from there
When you are on the last activesync screen where you select what to sync, (contacts, calender, e-mail, tasks), Select Menu at bottom right. Select Advanced. In the top drop down select "Keep the item on my device". I just synced to my gmail contacts, which was empty, and it worked fine. I did have to try it several times to get it to work but now that its set up it works well.

Setup a Funambol account at http://my.funambol.com
Download the Funambol CAB install file to your Windows Mobile device (that is actually running Windows Mobile. You can get the CAB file by going to the email tab in your Funambol portal and selecting download)
Install Funambol (onto Window's Mobile)
Sync your contacts with the Funambol server by launching Funambol and entering your Funambol portal account information
Download the Funambol Android application (from Funambol Forge)
Put the .apk file on your SD card in the /Storage Card/AndroidApps folder. If this folder doesn't exist, create it.
Boot into Android by running Android from your program menu or by manually running haret.exe
Once in Android, bring up the Application menu.
Open the Funambol application.
Press the menu key and tap on Settings.
Enter your Funambol portal information.
Click Sync contacts and let it sync your contacts.

how to transfer contacts from winmo to android

am having trouble transferring my contacts from winmo to android can anybody tell me wats the easiest way to do this..
answer
When you syncronise your pc with window mobile using window mobile device centre on the window mobile device centre go to mobile device setting--more --change exchage server setting--on the server address type m.google.com--tick use encryption SSL then type your google user name and password on the domain type google.com.
Syncronise with google account.so all your contacts in window mobile contacts will be saved or uploaded in google account.
Then when you setup google account using same account syncronise in android device.(setting--accont syncronise)
Thats it ..jobe done my friend
Activesync to m.google.com with Google account, then in Android sync with google account in android settings.
create a gmail account and upload them to it from a pc, you can sync winmo with your pc's address book then upload them into your google account then when you get in android you can just log into the google account and it'll pull them down.
*or create an google active sync account in windows mobile*
hey on the domain it does not let me type in anything.. do u no wat i have to do
I use Google sync normally, BUT to get contacts from Winmo to Android, just use HTC Sync, and set it for outlook, Sync to pc with Winmo, than Android, and there u go
*note, no mistakenly sync "nothing" to your outlook with HTC sync, and than re sync "nothing" to winmo...lol
u can write it down on paper and then retype it in your android builded phone
dont try to thank me i know i m right
My phone explorer
http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php
works a treat to sync with outlook or whatever.
best way for me as said above sync with wimo center transfer to outlook and then via htc sync to android.
4 minutes include boot...
