Hello All,
Am new to HTC Android Phone. I have setup my contacts photos to be picked up from the respective Facebook Profiles. Although this happened the first time, if a contact changes the photo on facebook it is not getting updated in the phone? Is there a way to manually force an update??
Facebook sync is enabled (i guess once every 12 hours) and it has been several days since the contact updated the profile pic on FB.

I have the same problem, my contacts aren't updated >.<
Pretty annoying, but I have not found a way yet to fix it. Looks like a problem with facebook for android.
If anyone has more information, please tell us
It seems that the facebook sync method doesn't check if the facebook profile pic is updated or not. Probably to save network bandwidth and sync time. But it is kind of annoying that it is not updated.
I have exactly the opposite problem. The pictures assigned to my contacts in google keep getting updated with those in facebook. While I don't mind that for contacts that do not have pictures in Google, it is quite annoying for such that do.
i pressed the sync all widget and all my face book images updated
my legend is rooted and running the modaco rom tho

Strange that it works for you. Can't see how a root or new rom would change anything. I have the same problem, using stock unrooted rom. Kinda hoped it would be fixed with new update, but no luck

Where is this "sync all" button? I am not able to find it. Is it something specific to the rom?

I was also facing the problem of getting updated display pic from facebook and thought that there wasn't anyway to solve.. until after i ran into the FriendStream problem.
My FriendStream started acting strange and refuses to update friends' status today, it force closes when i try to launch the application proper. After reading up online, I did what others suggested, remove the facebook account and re-add it to FriendStream.. It got my FriendStream working again, plus a bonus - it "re-linked" with all my contacts in People and updated their profile pics! =D
Might take a while for it to fetch all the display pics again though, so I'd recommend doing it with a WiFi connection
My facebook profile pics update but there is a major delay between 12 and 24 hours) even though facebook and friend screen update every 10 minutes

my FB pictures don't updates, and worse, new FB contacts don't appear in my phone book. when I manually sync my FB account, there is a process that returns an error
the solution I found to force an update was to run friend stream, friends, facebook, menu, update
it takes some time

i know this is an old thread so hoping there was a better fix for this issue? terribly annoying
Doing a refresh in the friendstream app updates the photo in the app but not the contact photo
I have found no way to update the photos till now... have even tried unlinking the Facebook profile from the contact and readding - no use...

But I do hope that this gets fixed with a software update.

Hi, it's my first post here. I've got a brand new Desire HD, unlocked, and I've noticed something strange.
I think it's strange because on my previous device (a Desire) it acted different.
I've got two Facebook apps installed (by default): Facebook (for android) and Facebook for HTC Sense. The first is version 1.3.2, the latter is version 1.0. Now, on the old Desire the version 1.3.2 was installed from the market ON TOP of the Facebook for HTC Sense, so there was only one Facebook app.
I cannot unistall both of them, so it's somehow boring.
Anyone noticed that too? Is it normal for the Desire HD? (well, I don't think it's pretty normal, because the device sometimes asks me to link 2 equals Facebook, one on normal facebook and the other on facebook htc sense, contacts together )

I've also tried to link my contacts to Facebook, but it says I have no contacts, yet Facebook is set up on my device. Confusing.

I always set the device to use Facebook for HTC Sense to sync my contacts, then disable the official facebook app(only disable the contact sync).
Thats always worked for me, sometimes (on my hero) the contacts didn't sync immediately but they always did eventually.
Make sure you're logged into both, in settings>accounts and sync.
@ Meesayen: you shouldn't have two facebook icons, I only have facebook and friendstream. Try either uninstalling the official facebook and reinstalling, if not then a hard reset would most likely sort it..
i've got this problem too, although one of the first things i did when i turned the DHD on was to download the facebook app, not realising it was already on there. but thats not the thing thats bugging me the most. the biggest gripe i've got right now is getting notifications to pop up whenever i get a facebook notification. i only know someone has written on my wall, for example, when i open the FB app and it refreshes.
has anyone figured out how to get facebook notifications to pop up in the taskbar?

Install Tweetdeck for free or F+ for other notifications like birthdays.

haha! i forgot about this. for some reason when i was using a blackberry my email notifications had been turned off on facebook. they come through fine now. still not ideal, but i can live with it.
another question i had - whenever i open up a notification through the facebook app, it always launches the page in a browser and not the app. is this just me? now and then i'll get to see someones wall in the app but 9 times out of 10 it launches in the browser.
Although I don't have my DHD yet I woulser if you can use bloo I currently use it and think its the best fb app but wonder if it will mess with sense fb

hi guys,
i set up both facebook apps (facebook for android and facebook for sense), same with twitter.
but my problem is, everytime my device is syncing with facebook/twitter, it updates my contact pictures with the one from facebook and if there is nothing, with the ones from twitter.
i can manually set to use the phone contact picture, but everything is gone after the next sync.
i think facebook/twitter for htc sense is causing this problem. is there anyway to stop that something is changing my contact pcitures?
is there a setting in the accounts & sync tab? couldnt find any
any ideas?

Please, does anyone know how to bypass this? I had all my contacts synced since the day i got my droid x, since then i notice that my profile pic stayed the same but didnt bother me. I was getting updates from facebook thru my Social Networking app and my facebook contacts were on my regular Contact Book.
Last night I notice that my new facebook friends werent synced, so i started playing around and finally got upsit and deleted all my facebook info and app from my phone. Well to my luck, the new facebook app does NOT have the option to Sync all Facebook contacts and ive tried installing old versions of the apk but to my luck they wont allow me to log in to the facebook app. I get a pipe error or something.(i tried from 1.0 to 1.4)
Now i dont get any updates from facebook nor my facebook contacts show up in my address book.
I dont know if to blame my Droid X or my Facebook App... I just want to fix this frustrating DoS attack. yes, i call it a DoS attack because its the same thing as a Denial of Service. Thank you all.
Try deleting your cache and any facebook data created. I have the new facebook app and am able to sync with it and am able to install an old one and use it so it must have left over data somewhere. I prefer SyncMyPix myself to sync.
Quick fix...installing it over WIFI.

Hi guys, first time poster, long time admirer (used to be stuck in the blackberry age). Anyway, I just rooted and installed gingerblur on my AT&T atrix 4g and I love it. However, I currently have a problem with it.
So the moto blur accounts are still present (intended i think?), and the facebook motoblur account I have active syncs the pictures to my contacts just fine, but when I open up the test messaging app, the picture for the contacts are blank? I tried deactivating the motoblur fb account, and just installing the fb app from the market to see if I could do it through that. But it seems like there is a whole list of options cut out of it, and there is no option to sync photos. It seems like the google contacts is not syncing with the motoblur fb account for some reason?
Has anyone run into/fixed this problem? Thanks for all the good work and help.
P.S.- I would have posted this in the Gingerblur post but I can't since I'm such a newb.

I never figured this out either. So I actually reactivated the old messaging that came with blur (it's in the GingerBlur thread somewhere), and that got it back. Kinda liked the speech bubbles anyway.
Ok so I guess I found a solution for all that are having this problem. I downloaded an app call syncmypix. Its free and pushes your Facebook freinds pictures to your Google account contacts, which in turn displays them on ur messaging app. Idk but something about the contacts is screwed up in this rom.

its the messaging.apk file on this rom you can pull the one from greyblur or just use an app to manage your SMS such as hancentSMS or i heard chompSMS also works
AFAIK google disallows facebook to intergrate with messaging and co. with gingerbread. As the gingerblur messaging apk is from gingerbread (as far as i know) it cant do its wizardry. Could be wrong though

Ohhh that makes so much sense now. I was so confused as to why the contacts would sync with the pictures and the messaging wouldn't. I'm glad I found that app then.
However I think on stock android gb devices, the fb app can sync the pictures, but since motoblur includes this in their accounts it screws everything up.

Hi everyone! I have a Milestone 2 and recently I became tired of motoblur social apps, so I downloaded the twitter and facebook original apps. The problem is that facebook app doesn't sync my contacts based on my friends. If I go Menu>Accounts and try to add the facebook account from the facebook app (not the fb icon from Motoblur), nothing happens (I just keep cliking the icon and nothing happens). If I go on facebook app Menu>Config>Other settings, it's empty, and there should be the sync options... Does anyone know an idea to fix it?
Another problem is my contact linking names, and I believe you are aware of this. If I link, for example "Gabriel Avignon" with "gdeavignon", the contact name will be shown "gdeavignon", which is ridiculous. Is there a way to fix that, like replacing the contacts app (BlurContacts.apk)? If there is, where can I find a right pack for that?

I know all about the drama... As far as I know there's no fix.
The Facebook app syncs only on specific devices with the Facebook app preinstalled afaik (Milestone 1 is one of them).
The contact list bug annoyed the hell out of me ass well. For now I'm not using blur anymore but seesmic. Love it so far.
You might want to try to bug Motorola with it...

No seesmic can't do that. Sux indeed. You might want try to get a hold on a OG Milestone Facebook.apk. You might be able to sync contacts and the functionality remains after upgrading.

Just remove motoblur app from facebook app list, also remove facebook from motoblur account and then try to add the facebook again. It's work for me after facebook update last night.
