How to overide \windows\ access protected files?

I know people use total commander but I have no idea how to use it. Is there an easier way? Or can someone explain to me how to use it to copy over some files to my \windows\ folder?

Just use Resco Explorer. It's not freeware but is a great application with the ability to overwrite protected files and has many settings to play with.

Select the file you want... Click file... Select Copy/Move... Click Tree to select where you want to drop the file.
I found this at this page, and it works for me about 90% of the time.
Download EnableRAPI and extract all files from the zip archive.
Double click on EnableRAPI.bat and leave the DOS window it launches open
Open Folder Options and choose to "Show hidden files and folders" and de-select the "Hide protected operating system files" option.
On Windows XP, this would be done by launching Windows Explorer and clicking on Tools --> Folder Options and then the View tab.
On Windows Vista, this would be done by going to Folder Options from the Control Panel and then clicking on the View tab.
Connect your device to your PC using ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista).
Browse the device's file system using the File Manager tool in ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center.
When you have finished making all of your modifications, close the EnableRAPI DOS window.
I'm not sure what this actually does, though, or why it works.

I tried that, it doesn't work. I'm using a Blackjack II running WM6.1. Does anybody know why it doesn't work and how to copy files into the windows directory?

You are posting in the wrong forums. However, your question is rather generic. I find it best to use either Resco Explorer or TotalCommander (as well as ActiveSync of course).

Brightness of display

Hello,
I am using Manilla 2d on my HTC Touch. Before using it I had standart HTC HOme. It had good button that changed the brightness of display (as its shown in 1st image) . Is it possible to put such button in programs tab of Manilla? (I can change the brightness , but it takes time to go to Settings->System> and change there the brightness. )
Thanks for Help
Use a program like Resco Explorer (Or if connected PC, browse your \Windows folder from there), go to your Windows folder and copy the backlight.exe file, then go into \windows\Start Menu\Programs, and paste a shortcut there. It'll then show up in the list of programs to add to the Manilla Programs tab.
I don't think there's a way to add changing the brightness in one touch to M2D programs tab, but it's fine for me at least.
Thanks for Help
hmm. there is another problem that i cannot find \windows\Start Menu\Programs folder.
I have sprite explorer on my pc and it shows in my backup file that Start menu\Programs is in folder System Settings. but i cant find it on my htc
Odd. Try clicking menu then tick "Show All Files", but even when you do that, you can't paste a shortcut into there using the normal File Explorer. You probably could copy the exe file there, but I hadn't tried that. That's why I say to try Resco Explorer on the HTC.
Finally everything works. direct link do Backlight. Thanx a lot
finding backlight.exe
hi,
thanks for the tip, but i can't find backlight.exe, only backlight.dll
any help much appreciated.

Ringtones go in /my documents/my ringtones
SMS and mail go in /windows, you probably can't find any 'cos you're using the in built and very bad file explorer.
Try total commander (lots of cabs and a website so search for it) it's freeware and superb to let you really see what's on your device..
I placed both of mine in My Documents and they work fine...
Thanks for the information.
I installed TC and now I see Windows folder.
I have TC on PC (Windows Visat) too and it doesn't show the phone at all. But I see limited folders on Windows Explorer. Is there any setting or another program to use on PC to see ALL folders. Thanks.

In windows explorer:
Tools > Folder options > make sure to check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "hide protected files"
you'll be able to acces the phone's windows folder in your windows explorer

Help wid the Manila files!!!!!

I have been searching around the forum for quite some time and still couldn't find a solution to how to edit the manila files????
I just downloaded the manila editor which is an .exe file so can be run only on my PC. When i select the path option in it there is no access to the Windows folder of my Blackstone.
So, using total commander i copied all the manila files into one folder on my storage card which was accesible in the "Select Path" option of manila editor.
But when I opened it, it just opened two files!!!
Can any1 help me in telling how can I edit a manila file and what all I hav 2 actually do to complete a tweak?
Thanx in advance!!!!

How to move application shortcuts ?

Hello,
I've already read some threads about this issue, but all I see is this:
"Browse to /windows/start menu/programs and move the shortcuts".
I'm using the latest Topix release and there are already some folders with apps in them, so I just wanna do the same, while using the rom's default folders.
Is that even possible ?
Thanks in advance!
~sekibun
It is possible and it's easy. You will need to use your file explorer. I'll tell you what I did. I'm using the Resco Explorer so I had to make sure that I could see all files and folders including hidden and ROM by unchecking menu options to hide them. Then I justnavigateted to windows/start menu/programs and cut/pasted shortcuts to folders. You'll have to repeat the process for any newly installed applications later on. Hope that helps
easiest way to do this is connect your phone using active sync and simply browse to that directory and swap things around to your hearts content. If you want to change icon files use JWMD icon changer.
Thank you people, will try both and post back !

If you can't see windows folder you need to go to start - folder optons - view - uncheck "hide all operating system files (recommended)" in Vista.
