I have been searching around the forum for quite some time and still couldn't find a solution to how to edit the manila files????
I just downloaded the manila editor which is an .exe file so can be run only on my PC. When i select the path option in it there is no access to the Windows folder of my Blackstone.
So, using total commander i copied all the manila files into one folder on my storage card which was accesible in the "Select Path" option of manila editor.
But when I opened it, it just opened two files!!!
Can any1 help me in telling how can I edit a manila file and what all I hav 2 actually do to complete a tweak?
Thanx in advance!!!!

So I'm new to all of this. I bought a touch diamond with Sprint just last week and stumbled upon this site for themes and apps. It seems to be a very cool site for customization, but i've been wondering where should i start if i want to make my own themes? I got CFC and Manila editor. Are there tutorials or manuals on using those programs? And is there a way to extract the preinstalled theme that came with my phone so i can modify it? Thanks for any help.

To extract your phone's TF3D files
To extract your phone's TF3D theme, connect it to your computer using Activesync (XP) or WMDC (Vista) and click on "Explore Files". While exploring your devices files, navigate to the Windows folder of your cell phone then sort the files by type. Look for a collection of files that end in "manila" (there should be ALOT). Copy EVERY file that ends with .manila from your device to a folder on your computer (give it a couple minute as there are many files to copy).
To copy manila files to a manila editor
Using either Manila Editor of CFC GUI (i personally think CFC GUI is much easier to use because it gives me less errors), click on "File" and "Select Folder" to navigate to the folder where you copied the manila files on your computer. Select the folder and the files will be loaded into the program
To make your own theme
Once you have copied the manila files and loaded them into either Manila Editor or CFC GUI, the next step is to replace some of the icons with the ones you want for your theme. In CFC GUI (I havent used Manila Editor and dont remember the buttons for this so I cant instruct how to use it), click on any of the files and you will get a preview of it. If you would like to SAVE that icon in a png format to edit (with Photoshop/Gimp etc.) click on "SAVE AS" and choose the directory in which you would like to save it. To replace a manila file with your own, click on the file then select "REPLACE WITH" and choose your file (NOTE: The file you choose absolutely MUST be the same size as the original. If the original file is 128x128, the file you replace it with must also be 128x128).
Thanks jrodi. Im thinkin of making one myself too. But I wasnt sure if the icon size has to be the same as original.

There are multiple ways to install a theme to your device but ill go through the easiest and quickest method using Total Commander
1) Copy the manila files that you changed to a new folder on your phone (Give this folder the name of your theme). Turn off the TF3D plugin (Settings/Today/Items/ Uncheck Tf3d). Then use Total Commander to find the new folder and copy all of the files in the folder to the Windows directoty of your device. If you get a prompt, select "Overwrite All" and give it a minute to replace the files. Soft reset your device and youre done
I was just looking through the windows folder of my diamond but there are no files ending in manila, is it because its the sprint version or something?

"show hidden and systemfiles" in explorer..
How do you access all of the images/files for the os? There are some things Id like to swap out here and there. Try re-skining a few things. Do I need a kitchen?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

CFC_GUI would be the ticket you are looking for.
Depending on what you are trying to edit depends on if they are manila files, png, bmps. what are you trying to edit?
CFC GUI seems like the ticket! I cant seem to locate the manila folder to edit the file though.

The manila files are all stored in the windows folder but it is not a simple as editing the image and then putting it back. Make folder on your desk top for the files. Once you have CFC loaded up then go to tools and export to png, then you can edit them. once you edit the png files then use cfc to make them QTC files again and move them to your device. it will take some trial and error and maybe a reset or two to get the hang of it. Just read all you can on CFC and manila file editing
Active Sync the phone and the "windows" folder is nowhere to be found.
I have been reading about CFC GUI and I understand how stuff is done but, I cant find the windows folder...makes me feel retarded

you just need to set the "show all files and folders" option in windows on your pc, then the windows folder on the phone will be visible
thanks man, found the folder and grabbed the files!
It's even easier then your making it. You can Active Sync , start CFC_GUI , go to Device, select "export files" , pick a folder to send them all to.
I'm curious if there is any way to modify the cab installations so that we can be asked which start menu folder we would like the shortcut to be placed in?
I have the Start Menu set up so nicely (thanks to Indagroove) but any time I update an app or install a new app I have to go move the link and then restart my phone so it does not appear in the 6.5.x Start Menu.
Any real developers have any ideas?
Way 1
buy "WinCE Cab Manager"
install it on your PC
open .cab files with it
modify .cab files
save .cab files
Way 2
same as above... but as someone who already has WinCE Cab Manager
Way 3
extract files in .cab
edit the files in the .cab with notepad, ultaredit,...
hope it will be ok
repack .cab
easy...
That's what I do now.
Oh well, thanks for replying though.
