just a small comparison between a professional camera and HD2's camera. What do you think? ( only cropped for same resolution, no color correction or anything)

Apart from the awfully wrong white correction, the HD2 isn't shooting the worst pics outthere, it seems.
With much light the camera is good enough for snapshots.
I think the EOS400D body needs to be sent back to Cannon and have the sensor cleaned and calibrated. And the lens needs to be cleaned.
the pics with the HD2 seem warmer on the flower and china doll. But the pics of the building and sign, are not that good. The 400D looks a lot better (except the depth of field, were the HD2 is sharper).
I have been playing with my camera a bit, and I cant get rid of the pink spot. I installed the update, and it made it better. But I still have a very noticable pink halo around 90% of my pics.
Detail on the HD2 is good once resized to 800pix wide or so, perfectly good for web use but not much more. And yes, the color balance is very often completely off, usually skewed to magenta...
+1 on your EOS being faulty, shot one is ok but shot 2 looks problematic

i m not a pro photographer. how do you understand that my eos is faulty or un-calibrated? is it that bad? can you help me a little?what should i do?
The EOS is all good to me, just a couple tiny dust spots visible on photo 3, but nothing else...
The colors can seem "wrong" next to the HD2's ones... but it's the HD2 being wrong
I cant see anything wrong with your eos tbh. The eos out does the hd2 in every picture except i think the last one. The difference I can barely notice. The first picture especially you can see how the eos brings out the purple in the center of the flower. It is crisp and has a more vibrant colour. Also the hd2 white on the flower is not very clear.
However we are talking a pro camera and a phone and I think for snap shots my hd2 is the best phone camera i have ever had. Especially in the dark in a pub etc as that flash is blinding!! If i wanna take landscapes i'll crack out the T90 or the fuji finepix.
EDIT After looking again at the last picture i think i prefer the hd2's. I can see what kilrah means about magenta as the blues in the hd2 version of the last image is slightly more vibrant. If you look at the sign on the building in the background ( the long thin one with the white writing) i think the blue is nicer than that of the eos. Thats not to say that the eos hasn't actually captured the correct colour but the hd2 colour is nicer.
I'm all for HD2 pictures, but let's be honest here, you should learn how to take better pictures with the 400D. In capable hands, there's no way you can compete a DSLR vs a puny smartphone with a static lens.
totally uneven comparison
I own both, and of course in "tailored" shots you can notice only what appear to be bare differences (Except the horrible pink staining effect which is visible everywhere even if background colours may tend to cover for it), yet in "daily life" shots you cannot actually make much out of it... also remember HD2 has a complete unalterable assembly, while much of the eos 400d power comes from the lens that you mount on it, and I am not really comfortable at all to compare my 18-200 OS sigma lens to the plastic on the HD2
If I need to shoot items I want to sell online, I always do it with my HD2, or even if I need to get quick shots of things where the main thing is to "get the idea", but I would never fathom to use the HD2 in a real shooting situation... like when I'm on vacation. I would simply lose every pleasure in shooting if I had to do it with a phone camera.

i didnt try to take good or stylish pictures.only took daily shots in a hurry, no manual settings or photoshop corrections.other way of course canon will shot much better pics. but i wanted to show that hd2 is also pretty good
Except photos 1 (flower) all pics from the HD2 are better than from Eos, more crispy-sharp, more depth, more details
... but this is only my personal sunbjective impression, I´m no prof. photographer though

you're missing the pink that stains everything in the center of the viewport
Also, if I had to define detail, I'd say hd2 shots, when zoomed in, show a very, very "washed out" aspect all over the area, while zooming in all the way shots by the 400d you can only see the normal amount of moiree
its an interesting comparison, maybe we should leave it there as it doesn't really mean anything beyond showing the HD2 pics arent too bad at all - which we already new
I have the hobby of photography.
All pictures from canon are a lot better than htc, and it's normal.
The canon sensor it A LOT bigger than a phone sensor.
You can notice that the canon pics are sharper, have a better exposure, a better white balance, a smoother out of focus, are less grainy. In some you have the impression that are crispier, but it's due to oversharpening (and if you like would be easy to obtain in pp on the canon shots)
About the depth of field, due to the smaller sensor of the htc (the smaller the sensor the deeper the depth of field), in most shots everything is in focus. But in photography this is a flaw. If, for example, I shot a portrait, I would prefer to have the face in focus, and all the rest out of focus.
On the other hand, on a reflex, you can choose the depth of field you prefer opening or closing the diaphragm
There are new sensor on the way and I'm sure that in future quality of our phones will be more and more similar to quality of point and shot cameras,
but will never reach the quality of reflex for the lack of BIG, HEAVY, good lenses.
Stop criticising the guys photographic skills with his EOS. All he was trying to do is compare an image from the HD2, with an image from a dedication digital camera, to show that the HD2 isn't all that bad. And people jump in expecting him to take photographs like Edward Weston. Give the man a break!
On topic: Nice comparison. Good to see that compared with a proper digital camera, the HD2 is still pretty good.
can you share your camera settings in hd2?
brightnes
iso
white balance
image properity
flicker adj.
thank you
HD2 has a bit of a magenta cast.
On the other hand, this shows how good the HD2 camera is.
HTC has come a long way from the 1Mb and 2Mb shooters that came with the BlueAngel and Prophet. HD2's photos now gets compared to that of an SLR.
Buy a decent camera, and also buy a decent PDA/smartphone. End of story.
There are so many *freakin* experts here.

not necessarily in that order i do think the note addresses allot of issues with current smartphone. Then takes the best of a 5.3 " screen and adds some nice features plus they make it very pocketable given the extra screen estate and battery life gained from the note. Love it. I would have however asked for the screen to be amoled plus as its slightly sharper and the s pens button should be a textured kind and an additional button further up making it easier to find when needed. Just like a normal pen with soft rubber textured grip.
Any thoughts opinions or questions just ask. Also sorry if the lightings really that bad but it was 3 in the morning with energy saving dark bulbs since they certainly don't light much.

Thanks for taking the trouble to produce such informative clips of the Note which highlight the many brilliant features. You show how the Note can become the one device to replace a phone and tablet which is what I am going to do.
Thanks guys appreciate the feedback. If there's anything else you want to see or know let me know

Thanks drgopoos for the pics those are fantastic. Always good when you want to see everything about this device.
One thing i was asked over at phandroid was if this will get scratched up like the shinny plastic on the s2 hopefully from the high res pics you will see there is no shinny plastic on this whixb is lovely also the metal plastic bezel on the side goes from front to back so the battery cover sits against it and it finishes just before the screen starts so the device feels quality
and the speaker has a little bump in the plastic that covers it so its not completely flat when on a table which is nice if you use speakerphone or listen to music
Ok this is the camera test since i was asked how the cam was on the note.
these are pics taken in complete darkness as was the 1080p vid just to show how good this thing is even in pitch black conditions
Il try get some outdoors ones at some point as well. The led is very bright on this phone and works brilliantly

I hate the US delay in release dates. It's only because Apple starts throwing patent suits at everyone if the devices don't get screened...

I currently have HTC One and I'm debating whether I should get the G2 or Xperia Z1.
I was leaning towards the G2 because of thick bezels on the Z1 but this review kind of made me think more:
http://www.androidauthority.com/xperia-z1-vs-lg-g2-quick-look-266308/
I know Z1 is not available yet in the US and probably will take some time but since I'm not eligible to upgrade, I don't mind buying int unlocked from somewhere... What you guys think? Would like to hear your thoughts
Update:
I found a better comparison video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0cnAxIxICU

Z1 is a larger and heavier device with a smaller screen. Its material feels better to the touch, but the G2 is more ergonomic to hold. Buttons on the back is either a plus or minus depending on how you use it. I havent seen a really good comparison in cameras yet, mostly just a few shots and they leave out something so its mostly a tie, also neither handsets have finished firmware, however the Z1 has a camera button if thats important to you.
The only real benefit I see to Z1 is Micro-sd card slot and IP67, but that of course comes at the price of size, weight and price.
And I solved the first problem with this: http://www.meenova.com/
Anyways, its up to what you like. Go touch and compare them at a store or read a lot of reviews on both, dont blindly go by one places thoughts.

I'm in the same exact boat. HTC One and lgog right now. I'm torn because i love the lgog community and if some of the devs move to the g2 it'll definitely be worth it, on the other hand I've never owned a sony device so don't know how development is with them in general. I like the z1 for waterproofing and build quality, my major qualms with g2 are build quality and those back buttons.. but with the z1 the screen could be horrendous and the bezels are huge. also, don't know when at&ts getting the z1. and I've heard that the latter's led notification isn't too bright which is a huge disappointment I have with my one. thinking once I can hold both phones in my hands side by side I might be able to finally make a decision

That's where I'm getting to as well. Waiting a few weeks to hear more about Z1 US release dates so I can compare them side by side. From photos and videos, Z1 build quality is very descent so we won't miss our One. But stupid bezel! One of the reasons that I'm bored with my One is thick bezels.

I really like Z1 back design. It is sleek
dont know how LG phone is but I currently own the XZ, the worst premium smart phone. its beautiful but thats where it end. the thing over heat, the screen is horrible with viewing angles, the screen is not oliophobic. if you like to flash stuff there isnt may DEV for the phone. The best thing i like about the phone is its water resistant, if that is not a thing you care about then i would advise not to get Sony phones.

That sucks! The problem with lack of dev for Sony devices is they are not widely available on US carriers. I'm hoping Sony get it right this time and release it on multiple carriers like what LG is doing. Re. viewing angles, Z1 is the same I guess it shows in the video I posted in previous post. But this is not a big deal for me. Non-oleophobic screen can suck but in the comparison video I posted the LG shows more smudge and fingerprints on display than the Sony. Maybe they fixed it?
Here's a review by Cnet UK, pretty disappointing, but yeah.... http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/sony-xperia-z1-review-50012187/

Yeah, I'd wait for an Anandtech review before making final judgement. To me though, G2 is a lot sexier cause of the bezels, and form factor.

Lol what half ass reviews told you that the camera on the Xperia Z1 was the best one available? A lot of dumb people can't judge and go by blind faith looking at the specs. Ooooh 20MP and 1/2.3" sensor it must be better!
I made this fun post. It's on the Sony forum so I'm sure there are some nasty things below the first post. There are links to flickr photosets showcasing photos from the Z1 and G2.

The camera on the Z1 really sucks ass. The G2 is like the S4 camera, but with OIS and less sharpening.
You want to talk about water-resistance? The other touted Z1 feature?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXPbq-PuqC8
This is the Z Ultra, which has similar water-resistant specs. The best you can hope for is that you can talk on the phone in the rain, or spill a little ice water on it at a restaurant. You can't take it to the pool, to the beach, or literally do anything else with it because it will void warranty and the sealing isn't up to snuff. The touchscreen will completely screw up when exposed to water. Even sweaty fingers will screw it up.
Water-proofing is a compromise. You have to fiddle with flaps for most of your ports. And worst of all, it screws up the sound quality of the speaker and the sound quality of the microphone. There's a water repellent membrane that keeps water out. It also keeps sound out (or in) as well. There's a review somewhere (I forgot where) that has a clip of the speaker quality. It's as bad as my $15 flip phone I use for backup. For you HTC One owners with BoomSound, it will make you cry. You can also tell from sample Z1 videos the audio capture is more muffled than other phones.
Some people think the Xperia Z line's aesthetic is classy. I think it looks like ass IMO. It looks archaic with its blocky designs and the fingerprints dominate all the phones no matter where you go. The Z1 is no different, and looks even worse with a bigger bezel and chunky metal frame. I thought they were suppose to be going for sleekness? That frame is like a growth of some sort.
And because of this aesthetic that has glass on the back and front, There is a SCREEN PROTECTOR on both sides, just like the Z Ultra and Z, to keep shards from flying if it ever gets dropped. Do you like the feel of a screen protector? I find them slimy and icky to touch and they completely ruin the look of the screen. Now you have one of those things on the BACK as well. It's like holding onto a bar of soap, that holds on to every single fingerprint like a tattoo.
And if it hasn't already been made abundantly clear, Sony makes ass for screens and the Z1 is no different. It also looks like ass. Poor viewing angles, black levels, gaudy and completely wrong colors and contrast caused by terrible image processing. I mentioned this before somewhere, that it looks like a really really bad first gen AMOLED display, with the bad viewing angles and blacks of a terrible LCD. The worst of both worlds. To add insult to injury, there is that SCREEN PROTECTOR mentioned above that gives it that trapped in an aquarium look that loves to reflect light. Everyone else is trying to reduce the gap between the screen and the surface, with laminated panels and super thin Gorilla Glass, to increase clarity and brightness, reduce reflection, and give it that printed on floating on top look. Sony wants to buck the trend. They love the submerged under water look. I hope you love it to if you plan on getting the Z1.
The G2 can be had for $585 on some carriers and will undoubtedly get cheaper. The Z1 is a "premium" device. Sony won't stop mentioning that. It also comes with a "premium" price. Over $700. And who knows when it will arrive on a US carrier? The Z took months to get to T-mobile, and they were the only ones carrying it. It's also still priced like its a bigshot flagship.
In a nutshell, don't buy the Z1.
Troll much? We get it, you don't like Sony.

I hear you and I agree about some of the points. I have not seen Z1 yet but I don't think it is as bad as you pictured it. Here's the article that explains why Z1 camera is the best
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Here...leading-cameraphone-according-to-Sony_id47242
Also I went to Verizon store and put my Htc One screen next to G2 both at 100% brightness and loaded the same image on screen, the One has much better white levels and crisper text.
T-Mobile just launched the XZ in July. I wouldn't expect US carriers to have this phone until January, and I'll be damned if I'm paying 1k dollars for a phone. Should have my G2 tomorrow, can't wait.
Too be honest I was really excited to hear about the xperia z1. I knew it'd come down to the lg g2 or xperia z1 for me but after seeing several camera pics of the xperia z1 I'm definitely not impressed. I agree with the reviewer from cnet. The camera isn't bad but it definitely isn't impressive. Plus the phone is pricey. The only reason i would have picked the xperia z1 over the lg g2 was for the camera but no way...LG G2 for me. IMO the LG G2 camera is better and if you don't agree, the xperia z1's camera definitely isn't too far ahead. Also here's some camera shots from both phones http://www.androidpit.com/camera-test-sony-xperia-z1-lg-g2-and-cyber-shot-qx10
I was hoping the screen/camera would improve but now I'm hearing that these are the final results which is tilting me toward the g2.. only reasons I wanted the z1 were water proofing, lack of plastic and lack of back buttons

Besides my Turbo I also have a company provided IPhone5s so I decided to do a real world side by side comparison. Here is the setting: my truck is parked about 250' away from stop sign, I held each phone with both hands resting on the steering wheel. Both phones have all settings on AUTO the crossroad has a speed limit of 50 mph and no stoplights nearby so I am fairly certain the vehicles crossing in front of me are doing no less than 50 mph. My purpose is to catch the vehicles as close to the center of intersection as I possibly can, I took the Turbo pictures first and made every possible effort to capture the best picture possible with both phones. Observation: the shutter SOUND on the Iphone was instant, shutter SOUND on Turbo had an estimated full second delay. Look at the pictures and draw your own conclusions.

So while the shutter sound was delayed, it did not matter?
The Droid got the job done while the iPhone did not.
Which pics are which?

The Turbo has what looks like a simulated gray shutter closing when you take picture, when that happened the picture was captured, the sound followed the visual cue.

The first 3 are the Turbo, the last 3 Iphone, if you hold the mouse over the pictures it identifies them, they can also be enlarged.
Ummm... Congrats?

He used default settings.
HDR on auto is one of them.
I have read here and other places what a dreadful camera the Turbo has, specially the inability to focus on moving objects and how slow it was to capture an image. I didn't want to dismiss the many stated comments about how awful the camera is. I also did not want to just simply say how I feel about the camera, to me it's a great camera for a phone. I did a heads up comparison between a camera praised often for being superior to the Turbo's and the Turbo camera consistently focused clearly on a fast moving object, the IPhone failed to catch a single vehicle in the focal area. I don't expect to sway the one's that hate the camera one bit, I simply presented evidence, proof of what the Turbo camera CAN do; not an opinion. WE all like here to look at pictures to prove a point... I gave you pictures.

Steve I did my best to present visual evidence and leave my own personal opinion out as best I could, I didn't know what the outcome would be and I would have presented results even if the Turbo had crapped out. I wanted to address focus and shutter speed on moving objects. The following IS an opinion: the camera is only as good as the hands holding it, even the world's best camera can take a bad picture in the wrong hands. The pictures the IPhone took were considerably darker than actual surroundings, the sky was NOT the darker blue in the picture and of course the obvious: no vehicles are present in the IPhone pictures, if you look hard enough to the right in one picture you will see the car I was trying to capture.
If you have a ceiling fan in your house or office, do the same test on the fan, well lit, low speed.
I've been doing that with the DT and whatever other phones I can lay hands on, none of them that
are built into a phone do very well. My observations that given some light and distance, the DT can
do OK with movement, but lack of light and/or up close action it's lacking. It isn't an accident that they
are putting dual flashes and ring flashes and such on cameras, the $2 sensor and lack of lens is really hurting.

You realize its the same camera that the Z3 has, right?
For a phone camera, it is pretty good. As for the ceiling fan, that is a rather silly test considering typical shots a phone will take arent that fast. Everyone can agree that there are a few aoftware quips that need to be fixed, but lets stop moving goal posts when someone defies a complaint, yeah? It's never going to be as fast as a DSLR or even a point and shoot.
I don't care if it's Genghis Khan's own Point-N-Shoot, it's deficient in a number of areas.
Like anything moving that isn't 20 yards away or in direct sunlight, or a christmas tree.
Nor am I alone. And that fake DSLR soft focus BS isn't fooling me either.
When conditions are favorable to the DT's camera strengths, it takes very nice photos, better
than my S4 for example, the rub is the S4 took better photos most of the time because it's
range of acceptable conditions was wider. There are a hoard of people with kids and dogs
which are frequently in motion that are not pleased with the basically useless camera in those
situations.

Here are some pictures of my baby girl, she posed in one; all the others she was moving and yes I can take a bad picture I'm man enough to admit it. I just think "basically useless" is a bit harsh. Merry Christmas.
Great looking dog! Your pics perfectly illustrate the performance I've observed, well lit, white background to reflect available light, mostly static subject, GREAT pics.
That last one with the blurry head, typical for less than great light or up close movement.

the grass is always greener.. if you read through some of those post you will come to the one where the guy with the Note 4 says he has similar results with what everyone praises as the one of the best cameras.. My DT could take some crappy shots as well as some amazing ones, and so can my wife's iPhone 5s.. I agree with an earlier comment.. I would say the overwhelming factor in getting good pics from any phone... is the user..
I now have the N6 and the story is the same.. some pics are trash some are great.., i take pics with that knowledge therefore I don't get as disappointed as I used to.

I think that the camera operator has much to do with the quality of pictures that come of the camera phone itself. This applies to non-phone cameras too.
Not a thorough review here... just thought I'd put up some initial impressions;
1. Battery seems great so far, but I usually let these devices settle a week or so before judging. My general experience with other Sony's is that the battery performance is awesome.
2. Camera and video really look great.
3. I do have the issue with picture distortion, but it's insanely difficult to spot unless I take a picture of a box or my keyboard.
4. Videos I've taken thus far look awesome - most of my captures are on mountain bike trails, so good lighting.
5. The device size seems better for me to handle than smaller phones (came from an HTC 10), and I have small-ish hands. It seems counter intuitive, but that's my feeling thus far.
6. The one screen protector I've tried (tempered) doesn't cover the entire glass surface, so this is like every other phone out there... don't expect good looks with tempered sp's.
7. Audio sounds great so far - still playing. Speaker volume is lower than my HTC 10, which is a bit disappointing.
8. FP reader is super fast, and I love it on the side of the phone as opposed to the front. Much more natural spot IMHO.

Thank you for the review. Aside from the volume and the distortion, do you have any other negative comments about the phone? Generally been a positive experience so far has it?
Even if you are generally happy with the phone I think it would still be wise to report the distortion. It's important that Sony know how widespread this issue is.

I agree with everything you stated in your brief review. Especially about the camera. I am no camera expert (seems like everyone today is a professional photographer wannabe...) I guess if you need to take photos of keyboards or grids you may see some distortion, but for regular photos mine looks great!
I too wish the speakers were capable of being just a little louder, but I guess this has to do with being waterproof. I can live with them as they are. Then again Sony may provide a patch that helps with the volume??? I too think the battery is great, but then again I am not watching movies or playing games on my phone. If I want to watch a movie I have an 80" Vizio in a theater room for that!
I do wish that Sony would unlink the ringtone from the notification volume. I know it's an Android thing but there are other phones running Nougat 7.1.1 that do have them unlinked. Other than that this phone is great!

Generally, I think the device is awesome, so it's been a positive experience for me. I have reported the distortion to Sony, and am going to go through their steps to resolve, which first means a factory reset through the Sony app (ugh!!
For the record, I've gone through a bunch of devices, and I do have 2 Sony's in my history. I am buy no means a fan boy. My son now has my HTC 10, and as much as I liked that phone, it doesn't hold a candle to the XZP.

Can I ask in what ways you like it over the 10?
I've got the HTC 10 at the moment and have been holding out to see what the OnePlus 5 is like, but I'm really tempted by this.

Hmm, let's see. These are just my feelings, no scientific method behind it.
Build quality - the Sony always has a strong feel in the hand.
Handling - the 10 feels harder to handle in one hand than the xzp
Screen - xzp looks ridiculous. 10 is no slouch.
Dual speakers on the xzp.
Wfi connections on 5ghz is waaayyy better
Water resistance - I mountain bike a lot, so my devices get wet.
Flat back, and the camera doesn't protrude.
does anyone else have a problem with slow mo camera being too dark and grainy or is that just me cannot do anything in good lighting condition at all

I don't have this phone, but from my understanding on how camera works i think that you need a lot of light to not be dark and grainy. The faster is your shutter speed the more light you need. That is why who operates professional slo-mo cameras uses big lights to really brighten the scene. Try to make a slo-mo outside in a bright sunny day (with direct sun light on your subject) and you should see the difference.

I'm surprised you find it easier to handle, that's the one thing making me reluctant is how much bigger than the HTC 10 it is. One handed must be impossible...

Thats what I thought too, but it's not as imposing as it looks. Additionally, it REALLY helps to have the FP reader on the side of the phone, It makes one handed operation easier IMHO.
