Using Touch Test, I have found that after a certain point the edges of the screen are no longer detect touch. The screenshot explains it. It also happens at the top but the ad was in the way. Should I return and get a replacement? I also have the GPS issue.
Hey.
I have the same problem.
When using some different multi touch testers, i have noticed that there is no touch in the range 10-15 pixels from either of the edges.

I think that mayby all galaxy s is having this issue but it seems to be a software 'error' as the first 10 pixels at either side is untouchable. But i would not call it normal as the pixels is needed at some points. I have contacted samsung in my country about it and is currently waiting for there reply
i have just recieved an email from them where they say i should contact my dealer. I dont know why i should do that as it is samsungs fault.

Hi
Anyone else having problems with the touchscreen taking maybe 5 presses for you to be able to select for example a menu option? This is really starting to bug me now. So much so I'm thinking of sending it back to t-mobile and cancelling the contract.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Andy
Try an Calibration in the settings menu.
There isn't a screen calibration setting on this handset. I wasn't aware we had to do this on these capacitive screens.
My X10 doesn't work like that at all. How hard do you press? Does it work in one press if you press harder?
Press harder on as capacitive display?
You'll have to place your second hand on the metal frame and it'll work perfect.
Dry hands are also not good.

Yeah. If you press harder a larger area of your finger touches the display. I.E. more for the digitizer to sense.

I'm definitely noticing this. I'm not exactly the type of guy to regularly moisturize my hands. I work in construction, and this capacitive screen absolutely sucks for me. I've been using resistive screens beautifully up to this point. I find I often have to lick my thumb regularly to get the screen to work properly. I have a ton of trouble unlocking the phone, since the screen thinks I've lifted my thumb halfway through the pattern. Using swype is a nightmare for this reason as well.
There are resistive multitouch screens on laptops and desktops now. I hope we see a swing back to resistive screens on smartphones.
I'm experiencing this problem aswell an i'm pretty much sure this is all software related, you can actually see the interface reacting to the press but it seems like the device never executes the action forcing you to press multiple times, annoying as hell yes! I sincerely hope SE fixes this in the next update.
Has anyone had any problems with accuracy? In some apps the touch registers like 5mm below where I actually touch.
I think the stock screen protector hinders the touch sensitivity quite a bit. Try getting a thinner screen protector. There is a thread talking about how sensitivity and accuracy improved when they took theirs off.

Thanks for the tip but I already have an uberthin protector. That brand has worked very well on all other capacitive displays I've had. I'm suspecting a software bug rather than a hardware issue.

I jammed my X10 in a sports armband for Ipod touch, it has a very thick plastic window and it did not affect the sensetivity a bit so i dont think the thin stock protector will do any difference. Just my opinion

I've noticed that on the dialer application.
Sometimes, while I am on Recent Calls section, I press the green telephone next to a contact and it calls the one right below it!
Haven't ever noticed any sort of oddness like that... and I have a thick screen protector on top of the stock one.
Occasionally I'll type a letter wrong, but that seems to have improved with the update from two weeks ago.
Doesnt the HD2 have the same clearpad 2000 touch screen as our nexus ones? If so then how come its touch screen's mulitouch out performs the Nexus Ones?

I really hope that they both have the same touch screens because if they do..that means our touch screen problem is fixable software not permanent hardware

clearly you do not know what problems our touch screen really has...
watch those videos again... notice how there is a jump when the points cross axes... your nexus does this too...
the calibration touch issue is just something to do with either the screen or simply poor coding of the recalibration when the phone gets rotated... the real issue is still shown in those videos and that is when fingers make a motion and "cross axes" and the points "jump" to be in line with each other because the touch screen recognizes inputs based on x and y inputs....
I have come to just accept the reality... the touch screens on our phones blow, plain and simple... I only hope that they put out a version of the 3000 that I can install myself down the road because not being able to play alot of games that require multi-touch and axis crossing with accuracy is a huge let down for me and this phone...
yes but the nexus seems much worse

Yes, i agree. There wasn't any axis flipping, and i don't believe those tests were just "lucky" to not have flipping. Are they actually the SAME touchscreen? Could this be a possible fix of some sort? I don't have my nexus yet, (I do have a G1 so i know how the touch screen reacts) but i do want better multi touch when it comes,if possible

ive played with multitouch on the hd2 and it does not feel as fluid as the nexus one. and i never notice any weird crap happen while multiyouching in apps, so these videos are worthless. seems like a software issue to me more than anything

thank you for agreeing lol... sadly this is the reality... everyone should really just accept it...
if you refute and want to think differently, watch the videos again and there is a very decisive JUMP of the 2 touch points when they either get close to lining up in either the x or y coordinate or if they simply get too close together... the switching to the inverse is a whole other story prolly having to do with the screen not being able to register the movement fast enough and accurately so it guesses the motion and again fails miserably...
Uhm... You know, its not Multitouch.
Lets call it Dual-Touch
"Pinch-to-Zoom" is way more fluid/smooth on the Nexus One.

Double tap is way better for zooming into specific areas of a page instantly. Plus it resizes contents perfectly.
Ok I just bought my HD2 from T-mobile like maybe an hour ago I was lucky that my friend works at the store and they got some in stock. Lucky me right? Well I just wanted to know if this is normal. I can see pixels and dots on the screen in sunlight and if the phone is tilted at a certain angle along with what looks like a crash hatch pattern of lines that also look like pixels. I called support to see if this was a problem they said no. The t-mobile model phone also did this. Is this normal and what is it attributed to? Thanks.
Yeah same here i dont believe its dead pixies as it follows a straight line and is organized. I think its the screen itself..Anyone can confirm this?
I read some where that it's for the capacitive screen to operate correctly and the iphone has this in certain spots of the phone. I guess it's normal unless someone else wants to let us know if we are freaking out or not?
it is normal and in all hd2 versions ,it is the capastive sensors

Are some people paranoid or is it just me. Obviously they are not dead pixels. Or else you would be able to tell when the screen was lit up. My wing had the dots. I believe it was for the touchscreen the crosshatch pattern is the capasative screen
100% it's the capacitive touch sensors...
paranoia abound in this thread. i think the dots looks cool. especially when they sparkle while the screen is off. never shows up with any indoor light so it doesn't bother me while inside.
Hi,
I do have an issue with the screen of my SGN :
When the display is dimed at maximum and with grey backgrounds, horizontal lines like shades (in portrait mode) are visible.
It's almost like the screen were dirty.
Is it a special thing on amoled screens ?
Am I the only one with that ?
Thanks in advance for your reaction.
And sorry for my english, I'm french...
My galaxy S had this my GSII had this even worse. It's samsung amoled design...

I have a SGN and I'm afraid I see the same thing. It's primarily on grey backgrounds...but sometimes is slightly visible on white backgrounds as well. Annoying....but the screen is otherwise brilliant. I suppose this is the price we have to pay...but I don't like it one bit ..
search the forum. There are threads about this and other display issues. You are far from being alone. I have sent mine back for this and other screen problems.

Yes, also present on the note... it is only viewable when you dim the screen and have a gray background. For example if you use the ScreenFilter app you can really see all the artifacts and lines. I don't really see this when you have full brightness.

Not got a replacement yet.
I've had two SGN's with these problems so far. The first one I ordered and the replacement I got. The first one I got even had dead pixels and dust behind the screen.
I don't think I will be getting a third one. Samsung really sucks at doing quality phones free from any defects. Just reading the threads about the SGN here on the forum shows that the screen is not the only problem. For an example, the physical buttons stops responding randomly and the note can't play some videos properly while other more older and cheaper phones can... I'm disappointed with these problems and I'm currently using my iPhone 4... Which works without any problem, but unfortunately doesn't have a 5.3" HD screen!!!!!
Hello! I have had my g2 d802 for around a month now, and I have noticed a blue tint when I am viewing it from the side.. When I tilt it to the other side it began to be yellow. At its worst the screen is "washed out". So I am wondering if this is normal? Or is it a hardware problem?

Are you able to go to a store to compare your phone with a working display model? I'd check there first to see if the display model has a better screen than yours. Chances are your screen may be defective. You'll know right away if its good or not
Anyone else who is having this? Im just wondering if its worth sending it in for that. Really happy with the phone otherwise, and haven't dropped it either :S
Thanks for all answers!

Yes, I should probably do that. I am around 40km away from a store where I can try one, but I will probably go there and check. I read that this phone had pretty good viewing angles so it might be defective..:/
Just guessing here, but did you come from a Samsung device or any other with (AM)OLED screen tech?
That tech is self illuminating and doesn't exhibit the off-axis effects typical of even the very best LCD displays.
It's normal for a LCD display to wash out and/or color shift off axis.
As to whether or not yours is typical, I can't say.

Ok, might just that the screen is like this. The only solution here is probably just to compare it with another G2 then..
