[Q] Clean 2.2 (rooted or not) OTA nandroid? - Droid X General

hey all-
looking for someone who might have a wiped (factory reset/data) OTA 2.2 nandroid. i was stupid, jumped the gun and flashed sbf back to 2.1 and ran the OTA update... didn't have any issues with the update but the phone just ran like crap after... dropped calls, random reboots, wifi fighting with 3g ect... i luckily saw the info about NOT flashing back to 2.1 from the ota... but doing some "trouble shooting" with a verizon rep, when he had me do a battery pull i noticed i booted to bootstrap recovery, i rolled the dice, hoped a nandroid backup would cause the issues a 2.1 sbf did and went back to a leaked 2.39 froyo. phone has been flawless since, but im starting to wonder if im forever stuck in "limbo" and if i get to the point of returning the phone, id like to be able to do that with the ota... ive seen several clean nandroids of the 2.2 leak and thought if anyone was running a stock 2.2 ota... factory reset and nandroid?

I'm currently on the leaked 2.3.15 and wanted to know if I restored your nandroid for only the system, would I be running the OTA without updating anything else like the bootloader?

thanks a ton... is this with a factory wipe, or do i need to wipe after boot?
and wouldn't the stock OTA be odexed? would verizon be able to tell the difference?

its already wiped, but if u have problems just wipe again... and no they can't tell unless they check into the system files which they don't need to touch at all.

I need this File but it is no longer availiable on rapidshare
Hi this is just the file i need to revert my droid 2 to stock because i was too stupid not to back up my droid before i put a crazy amount of rooted things on it so now i cannot update it, but i really just want to revert it back to stock n im pretty positive that i need this file. Holy Hell this update is fast

Well, I had to jump through some hoops to upgrade, but I finally got the 2.2 OTA and it is FAST.
It's even faster than the leaked version I previously had on there.
The hoops:
I was on a rooted 2.2 leak so I had to flash back to 2.1, only the Windows flash utility failed at 97%.
Then I reset, cleared the cache and re-flashed (but this time in Linux) and it worked fine.
I booted into stock 2.1, re-activated my phone and then looked for the OTA.
It was there so I downloaded and installed.
I just finished reinstalling my apps and everything's good to go.

overall speed-wise? i'm thinking to update mine. I'm on 2.1 stock with root. I'd be bummed to lose root since real HDMI is a godsend. do i have to unroot first?
i wouldnt upgrade if youre rooted. i tried and got stuck at the m logo and bootloader is changed so you wont be able to flash back the 2.1 so id either make sure you dont have any rooted apps and youre unrooted or stay with 2.1
Gotta say, with 2.2+LauncherPro I don't even miss root or custom ROM's.

Same here, this is my setup too and it's awesome.
If you're rooted or on a 2.2 leak, I would definitely go through the processes of reverting to stock 2.1u1 (via SBF - http://rootzwiki.com/index.php/Smartphones/Motorola/Droid-X/Droid-X.html) before attempting the OTA update.
I hoped to see the OTA this morning but it wasn't there. So I checked for updates & there it was. It loaded fast & with no issues. I had factory 2.1 without root. I love it so far.

That's partly due to you clearing off your phone. I sbf'd back to 2.1u1 last night and reapplied the leaked 2.2, root, 2.3.15, tranquility, then serenity, and HOLY SMOKES this is faster than it was before I did this. Like, WICKED fast! And yeah, that's without the bloatware-filled OTA. Got the same system as you do too: 2.3.15, just leaked and deodexed
Except your missing the new radio and kernal Also im running the legit 2.2OTA, and have rooted it via the droid2 method..now just have to manually deodex it and ill be all set

Just a heads up, I was running full stock 2.1, however I was rooted, and I did the OTA update with 0 problems. I lost root, but used the Droid 2.2 method and got it back. No issues whatsoever.

All im saying, is why bother with incomplete leaks? Why not take the little effort and do the real OTA?? I SBF'd back to 2.1.. Then did the OTA 2.2 Update, and then did the automatic 1 click Droid2 Root method.. and had a rooted, legitimate 2.2 update in less then 30 minutes after the initial SBF back down
What your doing is like buying a car with no doors on it.. Why run just the leaked system folder, when you can just get the total package that comes with an updated Radio and Kernal along with it? Why have an incomplete update with some components missing, when its not even that big of a deal to get the actual, 2.2 total package and have it rooted in 5 minutes anyway

I think you over-estimate the value of the kernel (which is actually the same version - just a different build-string) and the radio (which is a very small incremental bump in version).
The downsides to the upgrade (for hackers/themers) is that there is no sbf for 2.2 right now and it's been reported that once you OTA, you can not flash back to 2.1 via sbf or you'll brick.
If you're a 'stock' kinda guy, then OTA is probably the way to go. Those that like tinkering a little deeper, need the safety net of an SBF.
I agree. I personally think it would not be smart to OTA at this time if you have the desire to run anything other than stock on your phone (whether you can get root or not). I hear the new OTA doesn't run wireless tether for root users (not sure about this).
I'm still running the original 2.2 leak rooted. After all the problems I've been hearing about with tranquility, I would like to wait until I hear less complaints. Although from what I've read, most of the problems come from user error and people not following the instructions so I'm definitely not knocking P3Droid or Team Black Hat.
We have a system sbf file now for 2.2, that's all youll ever need unless you try something crazy, I have the OTA, rooted and also manually deodexed it myself and running my old theme I liked before.. Adfree is also working fine on my OTA unlike some others... What im saying is im not missing anything over the leak, If anything I have more. The 2.3.15 deodexed leak gives me nothing I don't already have because I was able to deodex and root the official myself.

Very strange, I haven't had a single problem with anything, and I've used everything you listed...,im even pulling 1490 in quadrants
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
And I was pulling similar quadrant scores from the leaks which have the SAME STUFF as the OTA. All they did was increase the version number for the radios and kernel. Even the sbf TBH released isn't the full complete sbf I'd like to have for a safety net (though I trust them when they do say that it is good for everything except folks trying to get out of brick b/c they sbf'd to 2.1u1).
Besides, getting to OTA may be quick, but getting back to where my phone is NOW but with the OTA kernel would take HOURS. No thanks. Not till it is optimized and deodexed and cleaned up by TBH.
Running the OTA, and wile everything works, I'm not seeking an overall speed increase. Some individual things are definitely faster: the browser, gmail, lock screen. But, others are the same, and some, occasionally laggy (may be that's due to my apps? ADWlauncher?).
It's not that the system is slow, just that I don't see any overall boost (certainly not the JIT impact written about in the Froyo coverage).
Compared to 2.1, those things are much snappier. Also, clearing the cache helps with this too.

ROM and SFB Question

So I have a quick question. I have a rooted DX still on 2.2 leaked (not official). I have the bootstrap and Clockwork updated as well as busybox. I also have the BlockModz status bar from ROM manager installed. So here is my question.
Can I .sfb back to 2.1 and not cause any issues or do I need to do something to get me back to STOCK 2.1 . Any help would be appreciate. Thanks Nick
If you have never applied the 2.2 official OTA update then I believe you can sbf back to 2.1. However, I think you need to make sure you wipe data and cache after the sbf completes. You should be able to search for the complete procedure to sbf back to 2.1 from 2.2 leak.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I know how to flash back to 2.1 with sfb using lite4.7 . I have no issue with that. I just have never done it after installing a custom ROM so I wanted to make sure the ROM wouldnt cause any issues.

It does appear that rooted users need to beware.
I have removed all the bloat except for the 3G AP app, and I can not install the OTA.mainly because i am lazy I am going to SBF and then OTA and re-root.
Tell us if you can root after OTAing
Dumb question from me...
I just recently installed the 2.3.15 leak from Motorola (posted in the forums here). Will it still prompt me to update or do I have to sbf back to stock?
I'm rooted and deodexed, but otherwise stock. Have been checking for updates today and not received the update yet... I should at least see the update, yeS?
I got the update.

Just following up here as well, do NOT attempt to SBF your device using the current available droid 2 sbf if you get the update. Angdroid/Motoboy was testing it out on his development D2 and it's now a paper weight.
My advice, exercise extreme caution with this OTA, from what I hear you will be stuck with stock D2 MotoBlur for hte time being if you update.

Thanks for the tip!
I still haven't seen the update and am considering doing a factory reset. Has anyone gotten any information about the performance increase / battery life in the update, is it worthwhile to seek it out?
Is this update for the R2D2 version also?
I have been hitting system update now for a few days. Just a few times a day. I still have not gotten the update. Is there any way to make it go? I figured it would have gotten to me by now.

Factory reset didn't do it for me. If you really want it, just flash the 2.3.2 SBF
This thread at droidforums has a link to an update file. Probably shorter/easier than applying a new .sbf, but same result.
People are also saying that the 1-2-3 root method will give root back after applying the update.
That said I have not applied either and have still not received the update automatically.
Verizon doesn't push the update to everyone at the same time, different markets will get the update at different times. They do this to not overload the servers
How would I tell if i got the update?
I gave up waiting and applied the update from droidforums using the stock bootloader. Worked like a charm on my stock droid 2. Haven't yet re-rooted since I don't really see a need for root at the moment.
I was able to pull down the update today. It just finished, so no comments or thoughts on it yet.
edit:
I restored the bloatware and unrooted before applying the update. No issues upgrading. I have not tried to apply root again (yet).

about this new OTA update

has anyone even gotten it yet? i heard that it already started but so far i got nothing. also does anyone know if this update will fix the battery life issues from the last OTA update?
It was nagging me to do it since like ten yesterday morning. I didn't actually apply it though, just changed my build.prop so it won't bug me anymore.

Is there a changelog for this new OTA? I really have no complaints on the last OTA after I removed all the bloatware. The not total battery charge while powered on is the only issue I have.
If you are rooted, will this install correctly? i just go the notification.... also would it kill root?!?!
So i just woke up and had the update message, said to restart to update. I accepted, it counted down but never restarted or update from what i can tell.i restarted my phone but still no change. Anyone else having this issue or a solution?

I'm rooted with the stock rom (s-off), bloatware removed. I got the update notification this morning. Unfortunately i was running late for work so I hit install, threw the phone in my pocket, and didn't check it again until later. Don't see anything different that i can tell, not sure if it even applied. Maybe it was just a PRL update or something?

if you're on tranq 3.5.1 you're already on .340
I guess I am glad I didn't upgrade to .320
Sort of....
I had no idea Tranquility 3.5.1 had 2.3.340. I donate to several ROM teams (why not) and I am looking to see what Team DeFuse does with Fission 2.3->2.x build, hopefully it will include 2.3.340 soon. I really like the speed of their ROM.
so basically this .340 update is the same as the leak version? so if i manually somehow updated to this .340 am i able to use the latest sbf file?
3.40 is not the same as 3.20!
Personally, I'd like to know what the difference is between the two. I have the 3.20 leak and the 3.20 sbf but can I use them once i go to 3.40?
If there is any difference in .320 and .340 (beyond Madden of course) it isn't readily apparent. Someone can try doing a diff on the system files between Tranq 3.5.1 and stock .320, but the bootloader and kernel are the same. The baseband hasn't changed at all since 2.3.15.
When is the update going live?

My question is, will I see the update?
I have flashed the leaked VRZ_MB810_2.3.32_1FF_01.sbf, I am not rooted and haven't removed any apps.
If u updated with TBH leak version you will have to wait for there patch or fix or whatever it is they are doing before you will be able to get the OTA.
I just got the DX update. I never signed up for the feedback network either. I pulled it.
Anyone know if we should hold off? dont want to lose root for good....
can you post the zip please?
Installed the update and lost root. It's also rebooting into clockwork recovery after powering down and back up. Reboot system option works. I was just rooted, no ROM or themes.

Afraid I don't have this. I do have a nandroid backup and the .320 sbf. Can I restore the backup or flash the sbf if need be? Don't want a bricked phone...
Am pretty sure that I am booting into recovery because of how koush's bootstrap works. It was installed and since I don't have root it can't complete it's thing. In this case it might be a good thing
Z4root is supposedly working, try that.
