I got the Galaxy S vibrant from Bell Canada. It was working fine in Canada with I9000XXJPK rom. Now back in Brazil, I'm trying to unlock using tutorials but seems that nv_data.bin is missing or file has zero bytes. Is there something I could do about? Thanks for any help.
it might be best to go back to stock JH2
JPK has been killing some internal SD on those phones
All the new JP? Froyo ROMs modified the efs to prevent you from extracting the unlock code that easily. The unlock method only works with 2.1 ROMs. It will be quite difficult to get your unlock code file back even if you flash back to 2.1 ROM. But I hear it can be done.
it's best to unlock it on 2.1 then use the code on 2.2
thanks! anyway, seems that no method works after update ... maybe the only way will be buying unlock code by IMEI.
just flash it back to JH2 or any stock 2.1
then do the unlock, it works, people have done it before check the Dev forum

My i9000M was working fine on the stock 2.1 then I decided to upgrade it to 2.2, so I followed AllGamer's thread. It worked great, and I had Froyo, except it didn't handle 3G band well. So I decided to further patch it by following another thread that says it will fix this issue but I ended up bricking the phone, and Bell Vibrant cannot use the 3-key combo to enter the download mode. This happened when I downloaded one of the ROM images from samsungfirmware.com (or something like that).
I had to build the microUSB dongle to get myself back to the download mode, so now I am able to get back again. But while all of this was happening, Bell released the official Froyo ROM!
So now my question is, what is the easiest way for me to go from my corrupt stage to official Bell's Froyo ROM?
Appreciate some directions.
i think the best way is to use odin to flash back to I9000UGJK3
So is I9000UGJK3 the stock ROM that came with Bell Vibrant?
Thanks!
All of us that have I9000T and lost their cosmetic 'T', I found bootloader in XDA,
but the SBL wasn't listed...
Than I will post here the links again...
I checked and flashed with the bootloader and downgraded from 2.3.3 JVB to 2.1 UBJI1... and than upgraded to JJJP6 2.2 that is of my cellular supplier.

Thing is after you flash a I9000 firmware your T will go away a few seconds after boot.

I'm not sure what do you mean...?
There is the 'T' of the bootloader and there is 'T' of the ROM... they are different..

Probably a really stupid question, but how can i use these? Can I flash with Odin or copy them into a certain location, etc? I hope I don't have to load them into a rom to use them - no idea how to do that...
I always wondered the same... so the "I9000T" initial screen resides in the bootloader? Are there any Gingerbread bootloaders to download that would have it?
Thanks
Hi,
I am tasked with making a Friends Galaxy Apollo ( I5801) usable.
She bought it in Thailand and it is SIMlocked and currently running Eclair (2.1)
1) I first want to SIM Unlock it. I have seen multiple methods for this
This thread has a discussion :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339705
I will take a look at the youtube video first, but I am concerned that I will lose my IMEI. This seems to happen a lot. How do I back it up? I have seen instructions to backup the /efs folder and others that include a DD command. Which is the most reliable?
2) What is the easiest rooting method? Does SuperOneClick work? Do I even need to root to unlock only?
3) How do I then install a working 2.2? Is there such a thing as an Official 2.2 for the I5801? Otherwise, what is the best way to STABILITY?
4) Other Samsung phones offer packages ODIN or Heimdall ROMs that are pre-rooted in order to do a one operation (sometimes one-click) root/upgrade operation. Is there such a thing for the Apollo?
Thanks.
I tried running a search, and waaay too much confusing crap came back. I have owned several HTC, Mot and Samsung phones and am usually pretty good with this stuff...but I am just plain confused about this phone.
Any help would be appreciated

SuperOneClick is the works fine for me
For 3) www.sammobile.com/showthread.php?t=12 Scroll down to asuan firmware. Im using dxjpc as it is the latet 2.2 version for asian countries such as Singapore, Malaysia etc other than India. Flash usin odin but do not flash the bootloader as there would be a possibility of a hardbrick.

1.I backup the /efs folder and also manually copy the files for additional safety.
2.if you are on 2.1, z4root works great. get the apk from here, install and root. thats it. you need to root at least to backup the /efs folder.
3.go to samfirmware.com and search i5800. install any of the latest ROMs.
4.Some "stock" ROMs themselves are pre rooted. Dunno how. Install them if you want. (eg. JPM)
Ok...my phone is now rooted and SIMunlocked. Pretty easy once you get over the fear of corrupting your IMEI data.
Now I have another question:
I REALLY want to make sure I don't brick this phone, but I think I want to upgrade it to
2.2...sooooo:
How can I be sure where the phone is from and therefore which firmware to flash?
I *know* the phone was purchased in Thailand, but I can't find the firmware currently on the phone referenced anywhere for the Apollo.
The firmware baseband is DXJG2 and the build number is DXJH2. A quick google search yields only hits for a "Galaxy Beam" ??
Am I asking for trouble flashing this puppy? My friend probably does not care that much about ECLAIR vs. FROYO...I just think that FROYO is a lot more modern.
I am just afraid that I have a freakish phone in my hands and that it won't react in a "nice" way.
Any pointers?
If you do not flash the bootloader it is not possible to hardbrick the phone. Only a softbrick is possible and a reflash will solve the problem. Android firmwares have been shifted to sammobile.com and samfirmware does not provide them anymore if im not wrong. In froyo you will have a bit more space for appilcations and since your friend in from Thailand(in asia) i suggest u flash an asian firmware. Dxjpc is working find for me
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
u neednt be afraid of bricking the phone. and it is not necessary that u flash only asian frimwares. look around the forum to see which f/w works best for the majority of people and flash it. before flashing, make sure u remove boot and sbl files from the downloaded f/w. then u have 0% chance of hardbricking the phone.
cheers
So I've been looking all through the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 threads and can't find ANYTHING on rooting this phone. I've rooted several other phone models, including the S2 and I've never had so much trouble finding info on rooting a phone.
Could someone place a sticky on this?
I'm trying to root this Bell Canada Galaxy S I9000 on ver 2.33 and I can find plenty of instructions AFTER rooting but that doesn't help me if the phone can't even access the system
I just want to root this and install Cynaogen 7 on it. Help, please!

Very useful thread, thanks a lot ^^.

OK here is a good starter guide.
The most important thing is getting a rooted kernel that matches your current Android version, wrong version will lead to bootloops and sadness. Once you've got a rooted kernel and CWM recovery you can backup and flash CM7 (twice, trust me).
CR Root thread has a long archive of kernels, should have one that matches your version
There are several methods existing in order to root your phone.
If you just need to root without changing your ROM, flash a kernel via Odin (kernel examples : Semaphore, CF-root, ...)
Why I'm rooting
Thanks everyone for your help.
TBH I'm rooting this for my brother's friend. He unplugged the phone in the middle of an update and now it won't make or recieve calls anymore... Soooo I'm guessing if I install a new ROM on it, it'll fix the whole issue... I could be wrong though, but it's worth a shot.

He unplugged it during a Kies update? Check if the IMEI matches the sticker on the phone. If the IMEI is corrupted you might be best to send it back, a custom ROM will void any warranty.
If the IMEI is OK then rooting it and flashing a stock ROM might clean it up.
Best of luck

This is all hearsay from my brother, all he told me was this guy unplugged his phone in the middle of an update. If it was OTA, or Kies, I don't know. I'll check the IMEI, but I know his warranty is up crap creek, he tried to get it fixed under warranty and they wanted to charge him over 600 bucks.
I'm going to assume the IMEI is fine though, as he's getting data just fine without wifi being turned on, and he's connecting to Bell Canada, he's just not getting voice calls in or out.

Flash a stock rom using g heimdall or Odin and go from there. Putting cm7 over it without calls working might make the issue worse. Flash stock first. Then install clockwork mod kernel, ie hardcores speedmod. Then flash cm7.no need to mess around rooting. U just need cwm.

Hello!
To begin I would like to apologize for my english and for creating another threat for this issue (I know there are several already existing).
My issue is the following, I got a Samsung galaxy S4 (sgh-I337M) here in my country (Colombia). I payed for it but didnt try to use it with my sim when I got it (which was really dumb). The phone is locked, it is from telcel and I have been trying to unlock it for sometimes. I have followed several procedures that I feel like im able to do, and there were some that were just too complicated for me (im tech savyy but dont have enough knowledge about cellphones).
I have tried several methods using the *#0011# and I even dare to try one that involved flashing the phone (using this rom I337MTCEFNE2) because it said it would be unlocked after it (didnt work).
I would like someone to help me with the process to unlock it (even if its with a link and some help understanding the basic concepts). Im in coombia and would like to use it here in my country.
So far i would also to know if by using a custom or official rom i would be able to unlock my phone, even if its using the rom from my country (that was not the original for the phone). Also looking at the roms available for Movistar )a carrier here in my country) I found that there are only roms for Kitkat, and I would really like to have lolipop... How does it work exactly?
Thanks to anyone who can assist me with this! And again, I apologize for creating another threath, but i already search a lot.
Is the phone running 4.4.2 or newer? This may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64978235&postcount=713
You should the rom that was made for the phone's original carrier.

The rom I used to flash it is running on 4.4.2. So I dont download the 2 roms that you put in that post, but the original ones for the cellphone? I think this phone was supposed to be with telcel.
There are 3 roms for that carrier:

http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/32418/I337MUMUFNE2_I337MTCEFNE2_TCE/
The modem rom is for 4.2.2, is there a way to upgrade my android version after following this procedure?
Sorry if i ask a lot, is just that im not sure about how roms does exactly work and what do they affect the phone.
Thank you very much for the help!
The phone will not work with a stock 4.4.2 rom and a 4.2.2 modem. After running the region unlock app, flash the stock 4.4.2 rom again, factory wipe, and the phone should be sim unlocked.
I would flash the ne2 rom, then root, 4.2.2 modem, run region unlock, then flash the latest 5.01 rom, factory wipe, reboot, and check the phone.
