Hello!
To begin I would like to apologize for my english and for creating another threat for this issue (I know there are several already existing).
My issue is the following, I got a Samsung galaxy S4 (sgh-I337M) here in my country (Colombia). I payed for it but didnt try to use it with my sim when I got it (which was really dumb). The phone is locked, it is from telcel and I have been trying to unlock it for sometimes. I have followed several procedures that I feel like im able to do, and there were some that were just too complicated for me (im tech savyy but dont have enough knowledge about cellphones).
I have tried several methods using the *#0011# and I even dare to try one that involved flashing the phone (using this rom I337MTCEFNE2) because it said it would be unlocked after it (didnt work).
I would like someone to help me with the process to unlock it (even if its with a link and some help understanding the basic concepts). Im in coombia and would like to use it here in my country.
So far i would also to know if by using a custom or official rom i would be able to unlock my phone, even if its using the rom from my country (that was not the original for the phone). Also looking at the roms available for Movistar )a carrier here in my country) I found that there are only roms for Kitkat, and I would really like to have lolipop... How does it work exactly?
Thanks to anyone who can assist me with this! And again, I apologize for creating another threath, but i already search a lot.
Is the phone running 4.4.2 or newer? This may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64978235&postcount=713
You should the rom that was made for the phone's original carrier.

The rom I used to flash it is running on 4.4.2. So I dont download the 2 roms that you put in that post, but the original ones for the cellphone? I think this phone was supposed to be with telcel.
There are 3 roms for that carrier:

The modem rom is for 4.2.2, is there a way to upgrade my android version after following this procedure?
Sorry if i ask a lot, is just that im not sure about how roms does exactly work and what do they affect the phone.
Thank you very much for the help!
The phone will not work with a stock 4.4.2 rom and a 4.2.2 modem. After running the region unlock app, flash the stock 4.4.2 rom again, factory wipe, and the phone should be sim unlocked.
I would flash the ne2 rom, then root, 4.2.2 modem, run region unlock, then flash the latest 5.01 rom, factory wipe, reboot, and check the phone.

Hey all!
Is it possible to downgrade from a newer (NE3) firmware to an older (ND3) through Odin or it will brick my phone because of the bootloader?
The only things I know are that 1) Downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3 is not possible 2) It's possibile to install a custom older rom on new bootloader and vice versa BUT I don't know if it's possible with stock roms with Odin.
I looked for a solution but nothing found and no one answered me so I opened this thread to find out a solution.
Thanks in advance.
UP still interested because NE4 + custom kernel gives problems that others doesn't have

I never actually tried going back to an older version but I really don't see why you shouldn't. As long as it's KitKat 4.4.2 just try it should work. I downgraded my Modem and haven't had any issue.
With the Bootloader worry...did you even change the bootloader? As well as the Modem you have to do that separate to the Rom, as flashing a Rom doesn't touch Modem an Bootloader!!! If you don't know how to do that please just leave it alone though unless you read, read, read a lot on how to do that.

Thanks for the reply, every time I install a new rom I make sure to update the bootloader and modem too, and from what I can read from the Synapse app I have the NE3 modem and NE4 bootloader.
I'm asking how to go back to older roms because going from 4.4.2 to 4.3 updating the bootloader with Odin you obtain only a fancy paper weight, and I didn't know if going from newer to older 4.4.2 bootloader it was the same story.

I'm pretty sure there won't be an issue mate since I flash between custom roms almost daily which are most of the time different models. If you want to be 100% sure wait for someone to confirm as I'm rooted since I got the chance to do so.
Thanks to the developer Civato I read on his FlexKat thread he correctly downgraded his bootloader from NE6 to ND6 with Odin...
So problem solved, this is definitely possible.
Thank you everyone for your replies :good:
Downgrading bootloaders on the same version generally tends to work OK, mainly because on 4.3 Samsung patched the security flaw which stopped you going <MJ7
Kith Kitkat I never had any issues flipping back and forth.--- Until it's a BL upgrade with OS Number change (IE: 4.4.3 if it has new BL) then it shouldn't work.
hi. sorry, this is probably an old thread but I need some help, please and somehow,Google got me here. I want to downgrade (not really downgrade) my N9005 to 4.4.2.
I currently have a custom ROM(resurrection remix v5.6.9,in settings it says that I have android 6.0.1 marshmallow). Also,I have a custom recovery(TWRP). Well,I would like to install the KitKat stock ROM and really did a lot of research but I cannot find it anywhere :'( . Do you know any source? And also, can I flash it with mobile ODIN? When I opened Mobile Odin Pro it said that if I don't have the boot loader for the ROM I want to install then I will experience a soft brick. Isn't TWRP a good boot loader?
Also, does it matter what version of N9005 I own? mine is: XXUGBOJ1. Could I flash smth that is not for this ..base band is it called?...
pls help
I'm such a newbie and I don't wanna mess up

Get a 4.4.2 fw and flash with windows odin. Not really familiar with mobile odin. Find fw for you country csc. Flashing other csc fw sometimes requires pit file so better get the 1 for your country or originally came with the phone.

Hai frnds..
Last day got a Galaxy S4.. But it is asking for Network Unlock Key
its running Android 4.4.2 Saudi Arabia (KSA) version
1. Unlocking using GalaxSim Unlock not working
2. Also tried unlocking using codes *#0011#. That too failed...
3.RegionLock Away app says unlock sucessful.. but still asking for unlock code.
can anyone one help me to find the solution.. suitable links will be helpful.
Thanks in Advance
You probably need to flash an old 4.2.2 modem and then use the unlock methods. After that reflash the modem you are on.

I just tried that method and it not working.. aftr downgrading the modem the imei is changed.. then tried the unlock methods..
nothing happd.. and after reflashing the orginal modem it asks for unlock key..
Here is a complete list of firmwares for your phone. Download one of the 4.2.2 versions, install it, then try running RegionLock Away. After that, upgrade to the most recent.
Sometimes downgrading the modem is not enough, which is why I recommend flashing the entire ROM.

Just did like u said.. Downgraded to 4.2.2. but when i downgraded the modem the imei is changed to null. I used the same modem of the 4.2.2.
But wen i flashed the newst modem imei is obtained. And the problem is that unlocking methods are still not working.
Can u provide me with some more methods to make it right...
Contact your carrier and ask for an unlock code, or purchase an unlock code. Those are your only other options if the unlock methods don't work for you. If those options don't work, then the device is pemanently locked to the carrier, which will happen if one attempts to randomly enter unlock codes too many times.
I have read a fair amount here, but I'm not getting entirely relevant info and am hoping for some help.
I THINK I have finally found the place for stock roms. sammobile.com???
Now a bit of background.
I bought this phone used a few days ago. When I had a look, it is already rooted, which I'm fine with.
It is running 4.4.2. I'd like to upgrade to 5.0.x. Gotta friend with the same model. That's what he recommends.
I can live with 4.4.2 if I have to, meaning if I can't upgrade.
Since this is new (to me) I can live with losing all user data. Only thing is my wifi password is long and random and a pain to type in, but that is about all I'll suffer.
I had removed some apps using debloater, mostly just to see, but have since restored them. Then tried to update, got the message, which essentially says "you've got a custom rom. No updates for you".
I know the phone is unlocked, but not sure if factory or by unlock code. Does it matter, and if so, how can I tell?
I know the previous owner had a fido sim, and I noticed some bell apps on here. If I've read correctly, that doesn't guarantee this was originally a bell phone. Is there any way I can tell? Right now I have no sim. I can shove in an old speakout sim that is deactivated.
So anyway

I've downloaded ODIN, but not a ROM yet, since I'm not positive who's I should use.
Also, I had gone thru the guide to enable AWS. That seems to work, as it would take the sim at the wind kiosk. I'd like to keep that, but if I have to redo it, that is fine.
I trust it is not a good idea to upgrade to a "stock" 5.0.x by just flashing roms?
Thx for any help.
ok, another question. I just registered at sammobile, but they don't seem to have roms for the S4??? Are they hidden somewhere? Where can I get stock roms, if not there? Thx
Nevermind. You have to type in the device name. It just isn't on the pulldown list.
Another question you might find stupid.
If I update to (for example) the Bell Roms, do I have to have a valid Bell sim in order to do an update?
Well maybe 2 stupid questions.
I still have to use triangle away for flashing back to 4.4.2 don't I? I read somewhere that they (meaning Samsung) expected the count to be > 0 at some point but I don't remember at what version, and I can't seem to find it again.
So what do you guys do? Flash it a couple of times to get the count right?
If the phone is sim unlocked, it should remain permanently unlocked regardless of whether you flash custom or stock ROMs.
The easiest way to get to stock LP would be to flash the stock LP rom via Odin from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I337M/
Before the first boot with the LP ROM, the phon should be factoru reset via stock recovery.
Doesn't really matter whether you flash Bell, Rogers, or Telus. The hardware used by all 3 carriers is the same. The only difference would be in the apps that are installed with each stock ROM.

I think I have reflashed properly. I'm downloading the update (probably to 5.0.1??) via phone now, but I noticed after I started that I have the warning triangle. So maybe the update will not install when it is done. I'll know in a couple of hours I guess.
So I should have run triangle away BEFORE the reflash? Or are you no longer supposed to run that? Or is there some android version after which you are no longer supposed to use it?
Thx
Well, phone seems to have updated to 5.0.1, which is what I wanted. With the update, the warning triangle is gone also.
So thanks again for your help. I guess I'll be on to other things here.
Hello,
I have an I337 - Fido - Galaxy S4.
I was using an I9505 ROM.
I just flashed stock Fido ROM using Odin.
Everything seems to be working except for my WIFI.
When I try to turn the WIFI on the switch doesn't stay on...Just switches back to off.
I have done battery pull, and factory reset.
Can't seem to find a solution.
Some help would be great. Thanks.

Used the stock rom from sammobile.com - Fido - Seemed to install Bell bloatware though.
Carrier reads Fido.
Not sure how to check modem, bootloader and IMEI...
Doesn't really matter which carrier firmware you flash as all Canadian carriers use the same firmware with a bit of customization.
Did you flash stock 4.4.2 or 5.01?

Hi guys,
I was given a phone to use after I broke my own phone, but the problem is that its SIM locked to Vodafone IE.
When I got the phone, it was on 4.3. After following the SIM unlock guides, I kept running into problems because some menu items are missing. Specifically "[3]PERSO SHA256 OFF".
I did some Googling and saw a mention of the fact that the newer modem in 4.3 has these options removed. So this led me to try downgrade the ROM. The first thing I did here was TWRP/root/custom ROM, thinking that there might be some added options in a custom ROM. However, the ROM i Chose (Albe95 LolliROM) uses the hard menu button to display running tasks, so I couldnt perform the steps in the SIM Unlock guide. Then I tried other ROMs and an old CyanogenMod 4.2.2 ROM, but I didnt have any success. After more research, I found that the biggest mistake people make is not downgrading the modem. Now, I thought this wasn't possible once you go above a certain level, eg 4.3.
After more Googling, I found a link to an old modem, but the link gave me a 404!
I spent a lot of time on this, and just want the SIM unlocked, so figured I'd just ask the experts here.
So, can anyone just link me to the correct modem version for 4.2.2 and maybe a ROM that is compatible with the guide I linked earlier?
Once unlocked, I'll flash a new ROM so I'm on Lollipop again.
Thanks.
If the 9505 is like the 337m, the free unlock method only works when running a stock Samsung dialler. CM and aosp ROMs do not use a Samsung dialler so don't bother using a custom rom to try and sim unlock the phone. If you buy an unlock code, you will need to be running a stock Samsung dialler in order to enter the unlock code.

You need to read the last pages of that thread. All you need to do is in there.
1. Be on a stock rom.
2. Downgrade modem.
3. Unlock sim.
4. Upgrade modem.
OK Thanks,
I managed to unlock!
I installed a stock ROM, downgraded modem to XXUAME2, did the unlock steps, and it worked fine.
I've flashed a custom ROM now and updated the modem to the latest so its all good now!
Cheers.
