Hey peeps
When using android 1.6 i could adjust the video screen size to fill the screen by pressing a button in the video player. Im now using 2.1 n this option seems to be missing. My videos now have black bars around it.
Hope this make sense lol. Any ideas or app suggestions would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks a lot

Just found this last night and don't know if anyone posted about this before, but it works flawlessly with my X1
Program: Format Factory
Link: http://www.formatoz.com/download.html
Just set it for Sony Ericsson X1 as your default if you want, then select any file(s) you wanna convert, and BAM!!!! 1G of video converted in 5mins and reduced to about 150mb...Hope that this helps anybody else here like it helped me...Alohas for now.
P.S. Forgot to mention that this program only converts video files, but pictures as well as music files...just about anything...
Thanks. Am downloading it and will give it a go shortly.
What do you use to play the files on the X1
It appears that the program sets the X1's res at 320 x 240, I find that an unnaceptable quality for encoding to the X1.
It's a nice program though. I 'll work on custome settings . .
I use it to convert a video in 480*272 (I don't want 320*240!!!) and the audio is not synchronised with the video...
I use "HD Encoder.exe" found some where around here. it works fricking great for high def video like movies, divx, etc...
google it up!
You think you'd encode a video from 1, 2, 4G fo a bout an hours or so and then outputs to a file about 650MB for an X1? isn't it a little too big? I mean to phone came out with just 4G you'd only have enough for 3 movies. is there another lower file size converter?
Thanks for information

Sorry, but I believe that the biggest they have for the X1 is 16GB...as for me, I'm using an 8GB microSDHD card and it's way more than enough because I only watch movies on my phone only during my class breaks which are about 15-30mins. What's so hard in transferring the files to/from your memory card anyways Transferring 4GB of files onto my card only takes me 2-3mins.

I tried many versions of that program and all of them didn't work with me...I always get errors with that program.

I'm also trying to find the sweet spot by manually setting it, but I'm having a difficult time doing so
My recommendation? Stick to Projection's HD video converter. See sticky for more info.

Yep....does the job.
Or if you can find the download link on their site and like to tweak your videos to the 9th degree you can use super
Super and Xillsoft are the two i used before i found the projection one. Projection thank you so much you are ftw!
Why take the trouble and convert anything at all?
Just use the coreplayer! it will play your basic xvid etc video's perfectly.
Yeah.. it's 700mb for a movie.. but it's not that you need to stack 20 movies on your phone
My phone screen resolution is 480x800….
I have a video song taken from a DVD movie and its resolution is 640x272(Widescreen), Now when I play this song on my phone it displays in normal DVD widscreen format, i.e, no black bars at left/right ends….
Now, the same movie when I try to convert myself from DVD… I get black bars at left&right ends…
So how to convert this movie so that it appears in its correct widescreen format on phone (I knw its possible coz I already have this song which plays properly as I want it to be)
PS: At present I am keeping default DVD resolution of 720x480 and converting to format playable on phone….
Also suggest some good converting software to use.... (Paid is okay as well)
I'm getting good results with this one! video encoding app
I have been using this app
http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/02/03/mp4htchd-v18-mp4-video-converter-for-htc-touch-hd.html
it has been made specialy for HD
remember to make the videos in 16;9 aspect ratio not 4.3 also u neglected to mention the codec ur using and laso the app ur using to play these videos
i find success with encoding them to 400x240 divx

Works best as it recognizes many formats for input and does what it is supposed to do, even quite quickly.
And for Mac users there's any solution?

So I want some videos on my X10. I used ones I already had on my PC (MP4's) and put them on my phone. The quality is fine, some need to be made bigger as they have black areas on the sides. The problem is, there is lag. I'm talking about a second behing on music videos etc. I have tried about 4 conversion softwares now and they all produce the same results, some better than others however. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I have used Mobiola to convert my videos and they paly well on the X10.
You need to create a special profile for screen resolution and save it.
you just need to double tap the screen to full size the video and get rid of those black borders
Forget the conversion apps and just get the divx app.. Works fine without the hassle of converting!!
Hope it helps!!

Simr, I have the exact same problem and I can't seem to fix it regardless of what conversion program I use. I've read on other forums that other phones using the snapdragon proc are having the same prob. What's weird is that not everyone seems to be having the same issue. My temp fix has been to use the Rock divx player. Divx stuff plays in sync so I convert other formats to divx. Hopefully a firmware update will fix this.

Have you tried Super? I did not experience any lags on mine.

on the stock video player? how?
Guys, i have an early beta version of player, which plays .avi, .mkv and other popular formats without any conversion, just uploaded 1.4gb avi movie from my pc, and it plays flawless, ~25fps. Does someone want to try it out ?

umm, when the file is playing, i just tap the screen twice - like how you would double click the mouse on your computer to open stuff
i was also going to suggest that maybe your video files are originally laggy before you put them on your x10 but according to adamupnorth, it sounds like a different issue, very strange...

this is because android 1.6 does not support hardware acceleration in the x10 ,2.1 will bring better video playback ,it will be 720p playback
Been reading loads of posts re using handbrake to encode media for Hero format and tbh it works totally fine using the stock iphone settings as mentioned....just wondered though if i could utilise the full screen or am I always gonna have that frame surrounding my videos?
If you can use the full screen can someone advise on what settings please.....
cheers peeps
I have some video files on my memory card and my droid X will play some and some it want. Does anyone know why and has a fix?
Thanks, PapaT
Have you tried RockPlayer? It seems to handle vids better than the stock player. You can find it on the market. I use software decoding mode, hardware decoding mode hangs for me.
