I got a tattoo from a friend, and the display is fscked up (i can read only the last line on the display). So, he will get a new one, but he never used google for contact sync. Strangely there are no contacts at all on the sim card.
My task is now to get the contacts from the phone. I tried HTC sync for hours, which is not working at all (phone is not recognized) and adb. With adb i can connect to the phone, but because it's not rooted i can't copy the contacts database ...
Any other smart ideas? A super secret command to copy the contacts to sdcard?

Have you tried to go up with the navigation keys, after you connect the usb cable? Maybe it could be in mass storage mode and you have to change it to HAC sync.
Or does it have a 2.2 ROM?

hmm, i guess it's 1.6, but i'm not really sure ...
since i cant read whats on the screen, it's a little bit tricky to select the sync mode. When i connect it to the PC it will show a popup, but it seems there are only 2 options, <unreadable> and cancel. If i select the <unreadable> option it will bring me to settings.
I personally have a HTC Desire with 2.2 Rom, and it looks totaly different, so i have no idea where the USB settings are ... could you please guide me through this? Keep in mind that i cant use the touch screen or read the upper half of the screen
thanks!
The 1.6 stock has 3 choices... The first one is HTC sync.
Its not easy to go to the usb settings with no screen, because it is in programs and can be anywere...

use a program like androidscreencast(I think Android Manager has this function too), which let you see device's screen and control it from pc with mouse and keyboard.
thanks, androidscreencast saved my day. It's dead slow, you can't use the mouse to control the phone (needs root) but i could finally sync the phone.
Nice program, thanks again!

How can I take ScreenShots on my MT3G?
Now, before it's said: I have been unable to get the SDK to work, so that's out. Also, I am NOT rooted, as I have the Perfect SPL, and a Gold Card did not work.
I am running Home++, which gives the option to use the camera button to take one, but the MT3G doesn't have a camera button. Would the trackball work for this, as you use it to trigger the camera? Is there another way to do this? Is there maybe a widget or app that would allow screen shots?
Thanks for any help...
A thought for the Dev's; How about an app the when you hit either it, or an option with in it, it will give you 15-20 seconds to get to the screen you want to capture, then does so? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard, but I'm not a Dev, so what do I know... lol

Yay, I figured out a work around. The Home++ will let you override the camera button and use the back button. Awesome.
Sorry, but how could you not get the sdk to work?
I downloaded it and java on. 2000 pc via pdanet free.

I did it on two XP workstations, one a Lenovo laptop, and the other a Dell Desktop (both work PC's). I would not recognize the phone. I could use it as mass storage fine, as usual, but the drivers would not install (and yes, I DL'ed that driver app, still nogo). Also, I kept getting error that some file was missing and would need to be downloaded for the SDK, and excell file if I remember correctly. I DL'ed it, put it in multiple directories, still nogo.

For future reference, you needed to turn on USB debugging to take screen shots with the SDK. It's under Settings-Applications-Development

go to http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as to download Samsung Kies....it's a Desktop Manager for your phone(like BB Desktop Manager). It has an option right in the software to tether. Will even auto set up your connection for you.
In addition it will even allow you to sync contacts with outlook, save them to your PC, transfer media, sync music/pics/videos, convert video, etc
Not There
Not available in USA
Download the UK version. Select Galaxy S. Set location as UK and choose English as the language, that is unless you speak/write a different language . Change USB to connect via Kies.
This is better than the free PdaNet and such as you can get to secure sites.
http://www.samsungmobile.co.uk/support/samsung-mobile-manuals.do
The link I poseted takes you straight to the download page. all you have to do is hit "Download Kies" and you're good to go.
Too bad I have a Mac, I'll just run parallels though
Rashad, for Macs..

It's not by Google, since when did they care about root users anyways.

Good point.
However, it takes a couple of minutes to root the phone and you only have to do that once (as opposed to installing drivers on every computer you wish to tether). Not to mention the fact that you can't tether an iPad or other device that isn't running Windows if you are using one of the non-root methods.

Well... It's on code.google.com so it's easy to make that logical leap and say it's "from" Google (they provide the group space to develop and distribute it). I don't know who created it but it works. There is at least one bug (issues when closing it down) but that will be fixed soon I am sure.
The easiest way is just to use Ubuntu lol. It works out of the box without changing any settings. Just put your phone in debugging mode.
Just wanted to add this as some one who keeps their phone constantly plugged in. In the Applications>USB section of the settings menu you can have it ask you how your prefer to connect ect time you plug in.
Fantastic! Didn't even bother to download Kies before, didn't think i needed it. Was debating if it was worth spending money to buy a stupid app just to get tethering. Now i don't need to.
US TMo Leo running NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.1 on NAND by tytung
My TMo Leo touch screen stopped working few days ago, b/c of that I can't do anything w/ it except receiving calls (I can pick up call by pressing the call key).
I am getting a Motorola Razr Maxx in couple weeks(hopefully), so I don't want to spend $50 to fix the touch screen.
All the remote control app I seem all require some type of setting up on the phone, which I can't do.
Couple questions
Is there any remote control app that doesn't require setup on the phone?
Is there a way to configure the device so it will boot up w/ WiFi Hotspot turn on?
If the WiFi hotspot turns on on boot, I can at least use my tablet to get online, email and make a call (through Google voice).
Thanks

Seems like youre in a real pickle lol . As far as i know , pertaining to remote apps , there isnt one which does not need initial setup . What you could try though is having someone else setting it up , then extracting the settings files and db files and using adb push to push them onto your phone and try that . Thats all i can think of . Best of luck !
Maybe have problem with your rom...??

Is your screen completly off or can U see your screen?
In android commander there is a virtual input with buttons and U don't need any setup on your phone....only a working ADB connection!
So with this panel U can easily navigate through system settings.
And there is also an input panel.

Hi,
Recently, I dropped my beloved N4 to the floor. It was a 40 cm drop, and it had no case snapped on at that moment. The touch broke and it is not working anymore, obviously. But still, the LCD is ok, it didn't crack. It is password locked, so I can't access the data on it.
My question is, do I have a way to recover my data? I am on full stock, USB Debugging on, and also found a folder named .android in my PC, C:/Users/ directory in which there are 2 files, called 'adbkey'. One of it has the extension '.pub'. Also, I tried the 'adb devices' command in cmd, but I got the message that it is unauthorized. I didn't download the full Android SDK to use for this, I used only the adb.exe provided by the CM Installer (Used it looong time ago). Since the device is unauthorized, I can't send any commands to it. Is it possible to authorize the device, having the adbkey.pub available?
Thanks in advance!

You should have stated that not only data but also Wi-Fi and bluetooth are off. I doubt there is any way, but connect another display with a working digitizer
This trick I came across while trying other developers bypass techniques, and I cought it once but really didn't really accomplish the task till the secound or third time,1st you need to be by a sign in hotspot like xfinity or att, then what you want to do is go in to the sign in page and type anything in the user name text box,now heres where it might take 1 or 2 trys, press and hold on the text you just entered, and when you normally you get a notification br that says copy cut paste, close the keyboard panel and right after tap somewhere at the top screen;if nothing happens tap and hold the text again till around the time the copy, cut, paste bar would appear and try tapping the top screen again, when done successfully the google search box will appear and type in settings;now heres the thing,it will not let you factory reset, but go back one step back to the Google search bar and type setup and theres your bypass it does a whole different setup with skip at every sign in;but you might have to be connected to the internet for the setup, thank you I'm The Phizzle 100% Certified Google Android Developer,Good health & Good luck to you!

It should work on all devices but I discovered it on a HTC Desire 626s
Please please if you can leave a reply or give me thanks or at least pick one of the answers on the pole to let me know if the procedure is and not just a one-time fluke I would really would appreciate the assistance, thank you.
Didn't want to post this but since everyone is getting past it I might as well.
First download your HTC ruu.
Then connect, the programme will turn the htcs adb on so have adb open before you connect your phone.
Next you check for your device on adb.
Now type in the command to open the settings app with adb (search it up!)
Now try to reset the device. When doing so the "erase everything" button will not work so right before to go into the Acton that lets you reset. click the button very fast before it greys out and confirm that you want to reset quickly and then you will have a working HTC.
Hope this helps!

Gotcha!
I recently found a phone in a field I was mowing and I tried like hell for a week to return this phone to its rightful owner to no avail. I reset the phone and am trying to use it as I made an effort to return the phone to the owner. I am to the point of the FRP. However, nothing I have tried seems to work. The phone is on 6.0.1 Marshmallow and when I do have the phone connected to the computer it only shows up as 0PM92 not My HTC or anything else. Am I doing something wrong in both of these steps?
Well try factory resetting it again and when it turned back on and you see the welcome screen try holding two fingers down on the screen and it will tell you shortly after that the accessibility settings will turn on after the tone when it does draw an L shape on the screen pull up accessibility quick settings then after that go to TalkBack settings go to the Google voice setting choose the little gear when it pulls up a list go to the little menu in the corner on that menu Tuesday open source license hold down on any of the text + 2 is she another menu pick share if a list pops up choose messages or gmail from there you can gain access to the internet or settings that is where you know what to do, good luck and good health to you and your device.
Thanks for the help with my research, since then ive frp bypassed near 200 devices
Ranging from all different models types and services and with this knowledge I will use it so I can help those who have been Misjust and it's all thanks to The Cooperative people who aided me in my research thank you.
One of My methods came up with alone is just go through every choice til you find a link when it opens go to Google and search for any apk to download once it gets you to the menu to turn on unknown sources in through other settings and find apps now disable anything related to Google services that verifies the previous email after a few tries it'll time out not being able to verify and put you through with a skip option then freely to desktop no account attached add your own using a account you already have that uses tap to verify on your other devices with the amounts already synced and then reset it you may have to restore all disabled apps soon as you get in I did this at 4am few days ago then factory reset it once it was synced up with my account also download device manager for Google lock and erase remotely that's how I reset it not from menu ensuring my email was truly connected to the phone. I give no credits I did this alone on my LG x power and my Alcatel idol4 please give me credits for anyone this works for as well because I will be making a video soon .
