I just discovered you can adjust your screens brightness by sliding your finger left to right or right to left at the top of the screen. I apologies if this was posted already.
This is in the tips thread.
Instead of apologizing, search.

To disable it I think u have to turn ON auto-brightness. I think its pretty useful, I dont see why u would want to disable it, but do what u gotta do.

I noticed that it was working though I didn't find the open under the settings, but after I changed the brightness settings, seems like it doesn't anymore!!
Is SE hidden "Auto" under the carpet?
Dont be silly, the setting is right there... oh... actually, where has it gone?
Hmmm... cant find it in settings, sure it was there before. Try widgetsoid, that has an auto brightness toggle which works fine.

Are you guys are serious or just try to be
Ever since X10 was upgraded to 2.1, they took away the "auto brightness" from it. It used to be there when it was 1.6. Now I don't find that option in Arc as well, which is kind of weired. If you guys found it ... then I don't have any words to say!!

not being sarcastic mate..
when i got the arc I really remember seeing the option and testing it out...
since I never use it I really havent gone to the display settings (just use a widget to control brightness)..
after I read this post I went to chk it and it wasnt there...funny!

Honestly, I'm not trying to be funny here, but my Arc is only couple of days old and since I bought I didn't find this option at all. This particularly bothers me when I go out the brightness is too dark to read and I've to adjust it and then I come inside the shade, it's too dark
Honestly i swear there was one there - there was a checkbox on the slider popup. There was a software update about a week after i got mine, maybe they removed it in that.
I also remember reading something about it *always* being on regardless, and all the slider does in settings is set a general level it will change around, i.e. a 'gain' setting. Maybe that's what's changed in the update, and why they removed the checkbox. However, that doesnt explain why it doesnt seem to be working for you.
Regardless, auto-brightness still works on mine if i enable it via widgetsoid (or any other extended controls widget will probably do it). I can put my thumb over the sensor and the screen will darken etc.
it's always on apparently. i've tested it by passing the light sensor part of the phone over a ray of light coming from the window and you can see the brightness change. the light sensor refreshes every 3-5 secs or so.

I tested with the application you have recommended and setting it to auto seems like doing the job but it wasn't the case with some other widgets I tried. I don't quite understand why SE has to remove that check box. They did it for X10 when they upgraded from v1.6 to v2.1 and they seems like done it for Arc as well with smaller firmware update. But thanks anyway the application.
By-the-way are you using the same firmware version as mine or is it different?

I tried all methods from this thread and my auto brightness was not working until I put Power control Wideget (the one originally installed with system). One settings of its most right button activated auto brightness. Now it is nice to have it working.

I'm not sure what happened there, it works for me with widgetsoid without any issues! But I did face issues with few other widgets like Switchpro widgets or Extended Controls.
I don't think the Xperia Arc has auto brightness setting for the display. I looked at the power control widget, and the brightness control button does not have the 'A' state.

Have you tried the widget suggested? It has that "A" option you mentioned.
At the left side of the speaker for phoning theres this 5mm dot like thing. When I put my thumb on it, the brightness changes drastically. It probably thinks that Im in a dark room. When I release my thumb it goes back to normal. I notice this a lot since I put my left thumb there while watching movies.
Sooo ... auto brightness worked for me out of the box.
(I love the screen in direct sunlight ! On my mums milestone (droid) you can basically see nothing !)

Sorry, but you didn't know that there is this sensor for light?
Bought mine a month ago and one of the first things i did was adjusting display brightness. There was no auto brightness option and still isn't, 100% sure (.181). But it's working fine so i have no problem with it.

I am currently running AOKP on my Tmobile version and enabled the onscreen navigation bar. Id like to know if we have a script that disables the capacitive buttons yet on this device, and if not, a request for a dev to make one. Thank you.
I haven't been able to disable them, but if you just want to have the capacitive buttons not light up snag "Screen Filter" as it lets you turn off the button lights (set it to 100% if you don't want to dim your screen). I also used "Auto Start (no root)" to have it start at boot.

What do you mean disable those buttons? Disable actions when pressing them?
So you have a huge useless bezel at the bottom of your screen?

Sry. Reading comprehension was subpar on my part.
This is actually a very useful tool if available. On my Asus Transformer Prime, there is a lock setting that disables the capacitive buttons while you watch a movie or play a game. I know the OP wants to disable the capacitive buttons for the purpose of replacing it with the AOKP onscreen buttons, but I would like to have that ability just to disable it so that I don't accidentally press on those buttons while playing game or watching video. Like a quick setting from the notification bar to lock it would be perfect!
Ill be subscribing to this thread for when we get a daily driver AOSP rom on Verizon. I too would like to disable the capacitive buttons and have on-screen navigation buttons instead. I find the capacitive buttons are too hard to press when I want to and too easy to accidentally press when I don't want to.

So, I don't know how to actually disable the button function (I'm running task's AOKP rom) and I didn't like using that Screen Filter app to keep the backlight off since it keeps it in the notification bar.
However, it is pretty easy to keep just the backlight off. Go into Settings>Display>Custom Backlight Settings. Check the "Use custom" option and go into "Edit other levels...".
Change the value for all the different levels from 1 to 0. Reboot and enjoy!

Thanks,
I have the touch control app for the nexus 4, which I must say is one of the best apps ever made for this device. Dont have to use the power button at all to lock or unlock the phone. The problem I am having though is that I am unable to use the scrollable dock in my launcher in the same direction as the slide2lock function. Can anyone tell me which settings and what values to change to in the app so I can use my scrollable dock properly.
Thanks in advance

If you tap on the arrow next to the lock function, you can adjust the sensitive range for that particular gesture. By default the Y value is set to 2400 so try adjusting it to lower values to activate the gesture above the dock. By the looks of it, the origin is set at top left (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Sorry I probably didnt word my post correctly. The origin is at the bottom right of the phone for slide2lock. So sliding the softkeys right to left will lock the phone. Problem I am having is that the settings seem to include a little portion of the dock.
settings are currently: x,y
start point 1400,2400
end point 20,2400
threshold 350,256

Right I meant the origin as in the origin for the coordinates system. Meaning top left of the screen is 0, 0 for X and Y with the values increasing as you go down and right. So try setting the Y start and stop to 1800. That seems to set the swipe region right above the dock. Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for your reply. After reading the thread that the dev posted, I instead changed the threshold settings. I changed the y threshold to 85.. Anything lower and you wont be able to lock the phone unless you swipe very accurately. Also I think the stop and start of 2400 is very close to the top of the soft keys bar instead of the bottom of the screem
pgm slide2lock settings ?

Slide2Wake
I was wondering if someone could help me? I want to set the slide2wake feature on Touch Control Nexus 4 so that swiping up wakes the phone like in Blackberry 10 but I can't figure out the X Y start and stop points. Can anybody help me out? I think this is non sense. You will loose a part of screen for the on screen buttons. The home button will not break/stop working. You don't need to worry about this. And in the worst case if this will ever happen you can bring it back for free repair or replace it yourself (very cheap).
Personally i highly doubt that something like this will happen.

You don't even need that, as this is built in, just look in the accessibility settings.
But... You can always do that IF the button fails. For now, don't worry about the hypothetical failure you may experience one day, just use the hard button
