Anyone see this? Samsung Continuum (Galaxy S with 2 screens) - Vibrant General

http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/30/exclusive-samsung-continuum-for-verizon-has-double-the-displays/
looks very interesting, kind of has me scared on how fast samsung may replace our phones with something else.

It does look interesting, probably more so if the devs find a way to customize the crap out of the secondary screen.

More screen means less battery life.

Ditto. The phone sounds more like a gimmick than something that will catch up. I would prefer a working phone with one screen .

Not necessarily. You may be able to use that little screen instead of the big screen for common tasks and actually save battery.
I do sort if think it's a gimmick though. I'd rather have one screen with soft buttons a la the archos.

Looks gross

...they're still shipping new phones with 2.1. what the hell!?

It probably ships with the GPS bug, too.
Not impressed because of the manufacturer.

I'm kind of wondering if it's really just one big screen with a dead strip separating the two sections... Since there isn't any backlighting involved, there is no "cost" to only use part of a screen...

I agree. It looks very interesting which raises a lot of questions.
Hopefully, JeremyNT's thoughts prove right and you can turn off the big screen and use the small screen for caller ID, notifications etc., as the article did mention.

i dont like it, not abit, why they had to change this and that when company like verizon and att get a phone, a nice looking phone and they turn it into this!

looks cool here are better pics
I'm liking how it uses bottom screen for notifications

Sorry double post

So we need a phone with the time and icons in the notification bar, on a homescreen widget, and at the bottom? How about a digital clock on the top, both sides, bottom and back so when I want to know what time it is...I really fu©kin know what time it is. Sheesh.

Obviously the bottom screen is customizable just like your home screen you dont need to use a clock widget
But yea Ive always wondered why people need clock widget when time is on top, guess its eye candy.
IMO this idea it actually handy and like others said it probably consumes less battery by just using bottom screen and not having to turn on top for minor use and notification...ect

What a perfect spot to display ads too....

Soft Button Night time Fix! Sorta! :D

Hopfully I Posted in the Right thread. I think I did. Anyways Heres my way of Fixing the problem of not beeing able to see the Home,Back, Search, and setting Soft buttons at Night. I Took the Stickers off of an extra keyboard from an old motorola droid 1 i Had and put them on top of the Soft buttons. This makes it look natural and it fixed the probelm. Best of all IT WORKS! the downside is that it was an old keyboard so the stickyness wasnt all there. ill attach a picture for evreyone too see!

what makes them show up at night? I even tried glo in the dark paint on a screen protector piece, but the glare from the screen was just enough light to not have them "glow" but not enough light to see them

well like this you can feel the mounds they make so its easier to find. they work alot more like buttons now. not much visibility but you can tell they are there now. Thats why I pit the "Sorta" in the thread title.
Nice idea. I might have to try this.
Nice idea. Now you can "feel" which button your on!
Another thing I tried were those colored hole punch reinforcment stickers. Used different bright colors. But you could code them by cutting them in half, and use them in different positions such as open area up, to the right, to the left and down. that way you could feel where the edge is or is not.
I've been thinking about how to do this and have it be glow in the dark. Is there anything special about they keys that makes them work over the other ones?

[REQ]Brightness in notification bar

Hey the other day I was trying out the galaxy tab and came across something interesting. I noticed that there was a little brightness bar in the little notification bar. Is it possible someone could find a way to do this so theme developers and rom devs can add this in? thanks.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Could you describe this a little better? With the Epic you already can control the brightness by holding your finger on the status bar for a moment and then sliding it left or right for less or more brightness. Is it just an indicator that the Galaxy Tab has?

Yes I understand but the brightness bar is like the one in the settings, but just in the notification bar. I know you can do the sliding thing you really don't get to see where the brightness is, and you never seem to get the brightness to 100% that way. I just thought this would be a nicer feature

The concept is nice but I prefer less clutter on my notification bar. It would be a lot cooler if we could just slide our fingers across that little space between those 5 buttons and the thing that says if we have any new notifications, the area around the middle of the attached pic.

Go to settings, about tablet, press on 4.0.3a bunch of times. When the Android pops up, just keep long holding on him and he'll get bigger and bigger then start flying across the screen.
There's one of these on just about every version of Android .....

[Request] Lock Screen Notifications

thanks for reading.

I would love this as well.
Something similar is currently being worked on. More info here: http://opendesign.bbqdroid.org/features/?cat=1&feature=3

Maybe post a request here

Its JKay's Deluxe Framework thread which gives you lock screen settings, perhaps with enough requests they will develop what you're looking for.
Of course we would all like this!!!
I really don't understand how android is the best platform when android plain ICS doesn't offer on lockscreen notifications!!!!?!?
How on earth?! Even my nokia can do this!!!
I thought that they'll fix it in ICS but I was wrong! And they didn't even fix it in JB!!!
Very disappointed!

Well yes you can if you get widgetlocker and buy missed it and install the widget on screen!!!
However this is not acceptable!
Think about how many users (probably around 3/4) can't / don't know how to do it!
You should no have a diploma to be able to enable notifications on screen!
Damn this should be by default in the system!
Iphone, symbian (nokia) WP7 and all can do this! I really don't understand why Android doesn't (i know it can but it doesn't)! It needs OEM (HTC, samsung etc..) intervention to be able to deliver that! Which is simply basics!!!
Those Notifications are unnecessary imo. You already have the notification bar, why do you need it twice?
I would understand this if lockscreen would hide the notification bar. Everything else is easy made by widgetlocker.
Amazing idea bro

Also, don't like the idea of everyone able to be nosey by seeing all of your notifications, from the lock screen.
I think being able to slide down the notification bar, from the lock screen is a better idea, less mess.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
And make it slide like the iphone not tapping. I know, i know, its gonna be too similar but you have to accept the fact that its accident proof and more clean looking(but this could change with JB animations).

Would glass work for someone with one eye?

Sorry if this seems a stupid question, but as the title says, I'm curious as to whether I could use Google glass as I only have sight in one of my eyes (my right eye)
Thanks in advanced to anyone replying, and I hope you're all enjoying your glass

Thanks very much! I wasn't sure on how much of the lens it took up, so I was wondering about whether I'd be able to see anything other than the display.
Thanks again!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
of course ,only right side has a very little display now.
The prism is small and positioned to be on the periphery of your vision, so it doesn't block much at all.
If you're right-eyed, you seem to be in luck, because all the pictures of Glass I've seen are positioned on the right.
See this picture, only that small square is actual 'display', everything else is more or less a frame.

Maybe they're going to make left ones too, who knows.
Google has said that it is designed to display right at the edge of your vision so as to not block normal sight, but they are assuming stereoscopic vision. Looking at the pictures again, like the one above, I am a little concerned that Glass might block, or at least obscure, a good chunk of vital vision.

That's what I was worried about, I don't wanna splash out and get glass and then walk into the path of a bus or something lol.
I may message Google and see what they say!

There doesn't appear to be a way to message Google with my question as I don't have glass.

I'm in the same boat except I'm the unlucky one to only have sight in my left eye...
I'm really interested in Google glass but I'm guessing I'm probably going to be SOL... Hopefully they bring out a version for the left side...
Same here... I'm going to have to wait for the left eye version to come out the unit is designed asymmetrically, so it can't just be flipped over to the other side.
