So Cal 3g speeds - EVO 4G General

I am getting TERRIBLE 3g speeds here in Cypress. Like 277down 83 up.
I checked with a gal in the office and her evo is getting **** speeds as well.
Anyone else in so cal having issues?

is that kilobits per second or kilobytes per second?

12.6 kb/s up and 21.7 kb/s down
.1 mbps up and .17 mbps down
101 kbps down and 173 kbps up

if the girl at your office was also having problems thats a good sign that its not just your phone. The same thing started happening to me a few nights ago right after I flashed a new rom and was trying to use wifi tether. I was getting 8-10kB down/up, I thought I broke something while flashing the new rom and was freaking out trying everything to fix it. Then I decided to activate my Palm Pre and was getting the same speeds as the EVO. By noon the next day I was back in action. Most likely just a temporary sprint network problem.

lol, I'm getting speeds not much better than those also, im in east OC right now.
80KB/s down, 37KB/s up
for some reason speedtest.net app thinks I'm in Kansas though...

Yea, that speed test app is always way off, I rarely get connected to LA.
I am running fresh, but I do have the latest update PRL. Wonder if fresh is in kansas....

Welcome to Sprints 3G. Sounds about right. (not even kidding)

hasn't impacted me in LA I'm getting 184.7 kB/s down and 71.5 kB/s up also detected me in Kansas though

Guess I will just stay on 4g then. Getting 5mb down 1mb up constant, but I can't rely on the towers to be functional all the time.

Just tested in downtown la. Got 2.25 mbps dl, .53 mbps upload

Dude, AT&T is worst. I work in a hospital and when I used to have the iPhone 3GS, there was never any reception unless I went outside. On the Now Network, I'm easily getting 3-4 bars inside not to mention 4G access. Plus driving through the hills on the way home I can actually talk instead of getting dropped calls like before.

Sure at&t doesn't have good coverage, but their speeds are awesome.

I work in koreatown and I just did a 3g speed test like 4 times: got an average of 150 kB/s down and 100 kB/s up.

Broke 6Mb/s (Post your 4G Records)

I just broke 6Mb/s, go figure the area I achieved this amazing speed isn't even listed to have 4G. See Map
Originally I had 3Mb/s in Chicago and now I only get 1.5Mb/s in the office.
Nice! I assume that was outside? I still haven't tried out my 4G outside where it is supposedly better. I know the signal sucks indoors.

I've gotten 2-4Mbps inside, but then again location really matters.
fastest i've got outside was 7.3 Mb/s in plano texas...dont have a screen shot though i randomly tried after dinner
fastest ive gotten in chicago is my sig... that was downtown, usually by my house near midway i get about 3-4 Mbps

plano??? i've been trying in dallas and i can BARELY get a bar of 4G. sounds like i need to run up to plano and check it out!
Dont have a screen, but got 8.14 while tethering to my laptop and downloading a torrent file. i consistently get 4-5 mbs per sec. while downloading using wifi tether on my laptop. I've noticed that in general my scores use the speedtest app aren't quite as good as it seems the bandwith ramps up after a little bit of usage. Ofcourse it fluctuates throughout, but I've noticed some pretty good speeds while i was downloading an 800 meg torrent file. The file took about 20 minutes to download which i consider pretty good for a completely wireless data transmission.
I got 700 kbps downstream once.....true story.

Those speeds are just evil!
those are such great speed and as i posted in another thread, one of my 4g speed tests resulted in 63kbps down and 924kbps up and i had 3 full bars at the time....i wonder if some these units dont have some sort of damage because really the best ive gotten was 2769 up and 865 down and i live in fresno tx which for some odd reason (its a small small town) its almost saturated in 4g

oh trust me i hardly get a good connection...but when im outside the most ive gotten was 2 bars...i dont understand why b/c on the sprint usb thing (dont know what its called) for 4g/3g i got 3 of 4 bars on 4g with no issues Inside my house...that was before the evo came out and got me really excited for the evo...but now i cant get 4g from the same exact location i tested the usb thing from...any explanations?

tmo US 3g data speeds

so im using a HD2, with the energy rom and tmo just announced that they are rolling out hspa+ in my city (honolulu) so i figured id do a speed test now just to see the difference when they "flip the switches" on 7/21 (my birthday)
so i pull up dsl reports and run the Iphone (bleh)/smartphone speed test choose 3g and........ 126kbps well maybe its a fluke i rerun it and 51kbps WTF!?!?!?!!?!
so i remember mobilespeedtest.com and i try there and..... 134kbps.....starting to get annoyed and when i compare with other tmo subscribers the average is 580~
so my question is is there something i can do to "fix" my speeds? ive got full signal im always showing "H" oh and im using opera 10.0
In Lexington, Ky I get about 400 kbps. In Cincinnati, like 800-900. I just think Tmob's network is really crappy.
hahaha well your crappy is still 4 times faster than me
just odd its SO slow here where hspa+ is going live in a week
before TMO threw the HSPA+ switch here in Tampa, i regularly saw 600-800kbps download speeds. Now with HSPA+ it seems to average about 3mbps-4mbps and Ive seen it reach as high as 5.5mbps.
I just got through with a road trip from Tampa to northern Mississippi where i lost the HSPA+ coverage after leaving Tampa, i saw around a 1mbps in outskirt areas north of Tampa that doesn't have HSPA+ yet, and once we hit the interstate it was GPRS coverage for a majority of the trip with some EDGE coverage here and there. God i forgot how slow GPRS was!
oh i also forgot to mention im using the stock radio rom.....maybe a different radio would improve data speeds?

My birthday's on the 21st as well, you know what this calls for....SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTIES!!!!
soooo apparently its just my apartment that sucks, left the house fro work today and didnt get 50 yards and my speeds jump up to 400~
as i keep walking outdoors my speeds go as high as 1.4 and never went below 400. so when i get to work i figure my speeds will go down as im indoors, wrong i kept getting speeds around 500 tho i didnt see the huge jumps that i did outdoors
We're on the list to have HSPA+ flipped on here in Austin next week, but I'm already starting to see the signs...I can now hit 3-5MB downstream just about anywhere in town.
3mbps-4mbps here in ATL
we are getting an average of about 3mbps-4mbps with HSPA+ in Atlanta, GA
Funny thing when I tether I get 12-15 Mbps. only when I tether tho even if its another phone

I can get 10 constant... bursts of 11 and 12 every now and then.
and I get a 10mb test when wifi connected to my home 15mb connection. I'm jealous
In Houston I never get more than about 3.5 to 4 mbps download depending on where I'm at in the city. Clear/Sprint pegs uploads to around 1mbps so no one will get anything better than that.
The interesting thing I have noticed is that I can have fewer 4G bars and get faster download speeds than other times when I have more bars. This leads me to believe that experiencing slow downloads with a strong signal to indicate congestion on the Clear network tower? Anyone else notice similar behavior?

[Q] Hspa+ deployed?

My phone's speed through the speedtest.net app at my home got better yesterday. A LOT better. I'm now reliably getting 3.5Mbits minimum, and got over 5 (5.11 was highest) 3 times. The ping is also good, ~125ms. I can find no explanation for these great scores other than "4"g finally being deployed. Anyone else getting better results?
For the record, the best score I ever got at home before this was 2.2Mbits.
upload still sucks... 300Kbits
nothing has changed for me..still paltry download and embarrassing upload.

So far I see 4G released in greater Los Angeles, Bay area, "northern California" (Santa Rosa area), greater Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Buffalo, Providence (RI), Boston, Baltimore, Charlotte, and Puerto Rico.
I'm about an hour and change away from boston, and I see decent speeds. Faster than my verizon phone.
I'll be in boston next weekend for pax east, I'm pretty excited to see what kind of speeds I'm going to get.
I've always gotten 3mbs down and 300kbs up.

For the record, I was in Santa Rosa, CA (one of their claimed rolled-out locations) for the past week. When downtown, I had great speeds. If you travel 1-2 miles away from downtown, coverage is hit or miss.
I was there for a week testing it and couldn't have been more frustrated. Constantly dropped calls because it kept switching between networks. I wanted a way to force it to stay on Edge while I was there so I could competently conduct business, but both AT&T and Motorola assured me that there was no way to force it to stay on Edge, as that feature was purposely disabled in the phone's settings.
My iPhone had that function and it came in handy when in bad areas. WTF?!
[edit]
Also, these speed tests in Vancouver, WA (Portland metro area) were tested now. Also, I spoke to 3 AT&T reps + 4 Motorola reps while I was in Santa Rosa, CA. As if it matters, but tracking the help from these companies is important at this stage I think

I'm using the wireless tethering mod in the Dev section. The one where you need the SQLite editor and root explorer.
EDIT: I actually hit 4.06 down, and 0.95 up Haven't hit those speeds since then, but my downloads are looking far better (2 mbps+ down, a little more than .3 up) compared to when I got the phone. (Was lucky to hit 1.5 mbps down, and .2 up)

FWIW, I was sitting in Chicago's Midway airport yesterday (remember, Chicago is a "4G" city based on ATT's map). Well, I was consistently hitting 4.0 - 4.5 Mbps down and 300 kbps up while in Chicago on my Atrix. Latency was around 120 ms IIRC. This was very promising to see.
This morning, I'm back to ~2 Mbps down and ~150 kbps up in Denver (where "4G" is not deployed)

so before i updated to a new radio (12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03)

Yeah, that shouldn't be right. I can consistently pull 5-8mbps with an hspa signal, did you do the efs wipe after flashing the new radio and clear dalvik cache?

Are you sure that you're not being throttled for going over your data cap? Those speeds are super low. Like the other reply I regularly pull 8mbps down and 3mbps up.
Sounds like your over your cap. No other reason that should be happening unless you have no bars and are in a basement.

No, that's not throttled speeds. I was throttled and consistently got around 0.07 Mbps down and up.
I can see these 8 Mbps down speeds being plausible if you live in a metropolitan area, but if you live out in the middle of nowhere like me, the best download speed I have gotten is around 3 Mbps, but typically around 1.3-1.5 Mbps.

I see my best speeds in the suburbs, with fewer users. My slower speeds happen in places like Seattle with tons of people on the network obviously. I believe just a generally slow area giving 1.5mbps ish, but there's something wrong when he's getting only 0.40mbps
I am now testing in the suburbs as I'm visiting home from college.
Also keep in mind signal also plays a large role. I was just downstairs where my signal was -103 dBm, and my download speed was about 1.8 Mbps. Just went upstairs, signal was about -89 dBm and download speed was about 4.0 Mbps (measured twice at each location). Interestingly, both were with UTMS connections.

That's not even OP... you're referring to the post above yours? He's aware of the lack of signal, which is why he's quoting it and saying that even at -103 he gets 1.8mbps.
