Has it been confirmed that the Official OTA Update for devices locked to ATT will start rolling out on Feb 1st? Does anyone know anything about this?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
does anyone know how to use search or google? if you cant find info on it, then its probably not true. im not on att so i wouldnt know but if you are, maybe asking them directly is your best solution since xda forums arent att reps
here is the thread that is already discussing the update from att, hth and hand
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909951
a few sources (via google search) are reporting the Best Buy has released info stating it will happen on Feb 1st. Is it true? Have to wait and see I suppose...
Cool. Thanks for the response muscleshop!

I don't know if you guys know this or not but when you buy the unlocked streak from dell they ship it out with stock 2.2 froyo.
ships with 1.6, but updates to 2.2 once you've started it and checked for update....

I received mine with 2.2 installed. It was delivered on Jan 18.
Yup. According to the dell website it ships with 2.2 already installed in it. I'll confirm that wednesday when it comes in the mail.
i believe only unlocked devices come with 2.2, all locked devices are still stuck on 1.6 since carriers have yet to release an update for the streak
Last time I was on dells site, just last week, you could order with 2.2 or 1.6 and it is stated that they get 2.2 with ota. There was a slight price difference

Thats correct. Unlocked streaks come loaded with 2.2 already installed.

You know you can upgrade it to Froyo on your own, without any annoying att restrictions/branding on the it. I was like you but got sick of waiting and loving it and would recommend the process to anyone
+1
Read the articles on the QDL repair tool & video and do it yourself.
It's quick & easy, and you won't have the bloat from the carrier rom.
This has been confirmed in an employee newsletter and also with
Best Buy customer service! Woohoo !!!!!!
Thanks guys...

Final freakinnllyyy.....
Tomorrow is the big day I can sell my Streak on 2.2!!! hahahaahahaha
i feel bad for you people in some sort of way. you guys been waiting so long for this update and not even sure if its going to be released tomorrow. while people like me who just ordered his unlocked streak that already comes preloaded with 2.2 sorry to hear you guys have to go through this. if it took this long for you guys to get 2.2 i can imagine how long it will take to get the eclair or gingerbread or even honeycomb.

Exactly my thoughts which is why I did it myself and will keep doing it when new firmware comes out cos I am sure att will find a way to mess it up. Just waiting for gingerbread
Because I'm curious, I know some say that its currently in testing.
I found this site from the Motorola site:
https://motorola-global-android.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/62460
Which makes it look like 2.2 is coming verrrry soon.
yes, i can tell you not only is it in testing but most likely coming soon.
i have seen proof of it on phones.
Patience
Oh no rush at all! Just wanting clarification. Thanks guys!
Just strange its not on the motorola update chart

does any one know, by the way, if the update is going to be released OTA or if its going to be a process like the update for the captivate and aria?
Edit: looks like the process is similar to that of the captivate and aria.

No its OTA. It goes out like all the other moto phones ota's.
the private moto forums have discussed it and it seems besides one girl having issues (unrelated to the update probably) everyone is saying it works good.
I dont know what they are watiing for, but surprisingly, the 2.2 rom is done and ready to ship. Probably waiting fot att confirmation.
Guess we get a carrier text when it is about to come out?

Sweet. That is excellent news.
Uh oh
Will it still upgrade to 2.2 if I have removed the AT&T branded crapware?
What application/service do I need to unblock in droidwall for it to come down?
Did you totally remove the crapware?? I used Bloat Freezer on the ATT bloatware and unfroze everything before updating. No problems.
Yes. This was before I read that you had to keep it. Removed without backup with Titanium right after I had rooted. Would a factory reset put it back? I'd like to not have to exchange the phone at a store, but not having Froyo is kind of a killer. I mean, FPSE isn't even compatible with eclair
What i'm hoping for is that motorola will put it on the update map soon so that we have a rough date. As for apps.. if anything couldn't we get the files off one of our bravos if factory reset doesn't work?

I just saw on the motorola website forum that they were looking for 1000 people to do final testing prior to roolout. Deadline to register just ended. Wish I would have found it sooner.
BRAVO™ with MOTOBLUR™: pre-release software testing offer (Registration closes at 3pm Central time 3/30/11)

This is my first motorola android phone. How long does it typically take after they release the final build of a sw version for them to officially release to the general public? Also, has anyone who has gotten the update, uploaded it anywhere for others to download or is that even possible with this type of release? Thanks.
With an official update being so close yet so far (according to recent rumors and speculations) should I have my Epic rooted (cause... me want netflix :x) or just wait at this point? Just curious.

If you want Netflix just throw on a Gingerbread leak ROM. I have been watching tons of netflix. As for rooting or unrooting, no one knows for sure when the OTA will come and when it does you can unroot at that time and get it. It took Sprint and Samsung over 4 months to get us Froyo from the time they released in Europe. We are going on our second month since Europe release of Gingerbread. Sprint does not want their customer service line overloaded with issues about the upgrade, so if they don't think it is perfect they will wait until it is.

Hi,
I think we should all tweet https://twitter.com/#!/SamsungMobileUS for gingerbread update for vibrant.
If we all do it then they will be flooded with tweets and it will be hard for their support staff to work properly on twitter .
Tweet atleast once.
Thanks
Are you serious?
Go mess with T-mobile not Samsung.
They dont pay for support, they dont get one.
You know about kies mini right?

Why would we bug T-mobile when the last update to KB5 came directly from Samsung through Kies Mini? The carrier wasn't involved at all.

Wrong, the carrier has to request that an update be made, and T-Mobile requested that kb5 be released, but T-Mobile doesn't like doing ota for the vibrant. So the did kies mini, and T-Mobile requested kies mini be made.

Is that why on the T-Mobile forums T-mobile basically said they have nothing to do with the KB5 update and that it is optional and must be done through Samsung Kies Mini?
If Samsung is so much in favour of us then why don't they use intentional build leak method.... and when T mobile cry they can always say they never released anything...It is SAMSUNG fault for sure.
Bug them
samsung galaxy s has gingerbread all europe and almost all over the world except usa/north america. Even galaxy mini get gingerbread this days....so....i think t-mo is the problem.

No it isnt, they have updated the SGS outside the US in a very timely manner, the problem is that the carrier controls updates to their device here in the US and must request and pay Samsung for one, Regardless of delivery method it is Tmobile who controls it. Why would Samsung waste time & money on making an unofficial update for the vibrant? If Tmobile doesnt want it they have better things to do with their time that will make them more money, hence no leaks. The other carriers I am assuming have already paid for their updates, hence the leaks. Now whether or not those updates are released officially are up to the carrier once again, either via OTA or otherwise.

Again, why did Samsung release KB5 through Samsung Kies then? T-Mobile themselves on their forum has said they have nothing to do with kB5, it is completely optional and up to the customer to apply via Samsung Kies and not through T-Mobile
I don't know whose blame is it, all I know is that i'm already buggin' both of them, so we should all do the same! what else can we lose anyway?

Again, you're missing the point. T-Mobile requested the update, but refuse to do an ota for it (hence it being optional). If T-Mobile hadn't requested kb5 be made/released, we wouldn't have gotten it. Period.
Tmobule HAS t request the update, then T-Mobile gets to decide when the update goes live into the public's hands.
And kies mini? That WAS created because of T-Mobile. The ota for ji6 failed so miserably, they needed a better way to release the update and also keep liability for breakage off of T-Mobile.

Its T-mobile fault they dont even ship replacements with 2.2 or new phones with it which is Ashame i feel bad for people woh are stuck with this phone who cant root thats y i root all friends phones who have vibrants this phone is popular good thing a lot of people have 2.2.1 which is pretty good

It's not so much an argument as making sure someone knows the company to properly blame. I love Tmobile but truth be told they are terrible with updates. Not to say the other carriers are much better, I just wish we had less carrier BS in the states and actually got updates like the rest if the world =/

Ok guys, I have decided I want the Galaxy S 4 and ordered it but its on back order from AT&T but I want to know all there is about it before I get it. Coming from a HTC One X and very new to Samsung I need direction to the links of what to do with it. I know its new and little info about it, but I need to learn the GS4 before its in hands. I have read about all I can find but its mostly a hit and miss with the reviews so far.
After I get used to it and see the installed software I want to unlock it, and flash away with the customs like the HTC I have but I don't know where to start.
I need to know what or where to look for the ATT version of the GS4, is it a I9505 or a I9500 or what? From the order at ATT all I get is Samsung 1337, so what is it?
If you want to flash roms I'd wait for now the bootloader on the at&t version is locked. I'd say wait and look up and learn about the device. Then if/when the bootloader is unlocked you will know what you are doing. The i9505 is the international snapdragon and LTE version of the phone. The i9500 is the international no LTE octa core version. The at&t one is snapdragon and has LTE bands for AT&T.

this is exactly right. I am waiting myself for the fine people of XDA to unlock the bootloader
OP, the AT&T model is not 1337 it is SGH-i337. All you can do when you get it is freeze all AT&T software except Contacts - do not freeze Contacts as that will disable your dialer/phone.

Ok, I was just going off the order on the ATT site, all it gave for information was Samsung Galaxy 1337, I didn't know which is which for the model or ?. Is there a specific forum for the the ATT ? When I search my model I keep coming back to this forum. Are they all combined or separate like the HTC forums? I agre with the posts and all I have found so far is rooting the phone and no actual custom roms. I have been messing with the HTC One X and got it down pat , like you say, I need to learn all there is to know but don't know where to look.

There is an AT&T forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2257 here. There are no custom roms for this device because of the bootloader. You cant add a custom kernel/recovery/rom. You can root the device though. I'd look at the guides on this and the AT&T forum.

Ok, been reading all I can find and went for it. Ordered the GS4 on Monday and to be delivered today Wednesday , going to be out of town for 3 days but it should be here when I get back if my wife don't open it up and steal it from me. I hope the devs come up with something for this phone and make it easy to root and I get to learn Samsung like the HTC One X my wife gets now .

Its already rooted, but you wont be running custom roms for a while. As your bootloader is locked. This stops you from installing any.
