So when is a GPL Release not a GPL Release? - Streak 5 General

Does anyone smarter than me know exactly what the GPL rules are on what people have to release? Seems to me that Dell have been somewhat remiss?

the latest version seems ok
the included oem file allows it to build, and it boot. that's what the GPL says..

The exact GPLv2 wording is:
For an executable work, complete source code means all the source code for all modules it contains, plus any associated interface definition files, plus the scripts used to control compilation and installation of the executable.

It's yet to see whether "all modules" is covered, but at the first glance it looks fine.

Ahh, at last. I should probably catch up with news before ranting..

Well, actually, it's the WM5-only CAB file of the very first version (after that, two Service Packs have been released; the latest can be found at http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/CF2SP2/ for both WM5+ and WM2003(SE)). Completely useless on a PPC2k2 device.
CF2, in general, isn't compatible with PPC2k2 at all. There MIGHT be hacks that made it work on WinCE 3.0-based devices but I don't know of any of them.
Thank for all.
For reason, I created 1st "Hello world" in vs2005 and debug & deploy it in to ppc2002 device but vs2005 show alert "Can't not deploy to your device, It not supported"

Sorry my English so bad.

Try compiling it for CF1.
I know this sounds very rude and I apologize in advance but I just can't stop my self from saying it:
Try using a real programing language
Seriously though, VS 2005 is not a good tool if you want to develop for devices as old as those based on PPC 2002.
It doesn't even recognize the SDK for that platform.
That among other things means you will have to deploy manually and will not be able to use any of the remote tools including the debugger.
Plus, having to install CF 1 is not too pleasant for the users of these devices because it takes up quite a lot of precious RAM memory.
Personally I would recommend using eMbedded Visual C 3 (not 4!) for that particular platform.
If you do not know C/C++ you could try eMbedded VB (comes in same package as EVC 3).

DZO NBH Update 02-02-10

Just noticed there was a new NBH put up today at DZO's Site.
Does anyone know if this has GPS5.0 and the Bluetooth stuff built in?

which file would i use with no rootfs to work with the new installer?
the ones that do not include the word rootfs in the file name; these have the new installer. choose the resolution you want.

incorrect. the ones that have rootfs in the name are meant to be used with the old rootfs. this was mentioned by dzo when he posted the second set of files. a quick way to find these things out is to find all post listed by a specific person - i.e. click on dzo's name and click find all posts; you'll know what he's been up to if he has documented it on the forum.
Nice seems to be working great far.

I noticed a lot of changes between 23667 and 23668. Any idea?
And, what about Metadata folder. Up to now I never found it inside a package, but now I did.

user and default.hv in metadata are useless because registry should be created from rgu and provxml while cooking.
The important part of metadata are packages.cif and .sof - they define the order and amount of packages cooked into the rom.
That's why I created my own Metadata with necessary packages list and always use it.

HD2Owner, English version is a part of Barin's OSBuilder (which I use as a rom kitchen)

Mmmm interesting I heard itbefore an effectively from you Andrew lets make it important here cause neither me use it... Thanks a lot
Just to make it more understandable - screenshots from packages cif and sof editor from OSBuilder tool
Barin is now on vacation and I have no contact with it, but I hope he will forgive me.
I translated pSofCifBuilder to English.
But IMHO, it's a naughtiness, the best choice would be to use OSBuilder.
Good luck

I don't think that anyone has until now, and it doesn't seem to have mattered much, has it? Does the operating system even read either of those files? It seems like they're there for book-keeping, but I could certainly be wrong. There's not much point in modifying them with EVK since most EXT's don't have dsm's, and they get thrown out during cooking, anyway.

If you use PRB-based kitchen then it doesn't matter. When you use OSBuilder it DOES matter. Don't know whether even older kitchen like Build OS cares or not.

as i said i never ever modified them, that means it doesnt even matter with Build OS. moreover, using "all packages to one" technique strips most of the info from these files without even affecting the ROM.
In this order, which is specified in packages.sof will be building registry. It is not related to PRB, or OSB, or any other kitchen.
Building registry does rgucomp (default.hv, user.hv and boot.hv) on the list of packages (dsm) from packages.sof
It has always been, regardless of whether old or new kitchen. So no other way.
Further deletion of files dsm ("all packages to one", etc.), nothing to do with the building registry.
P.S. There is a myth that OSB is important packages.sof, and at for other kitchens, it is not needed. This is nonsense. In OSB can view and edit packages.sof and packages.cif. That's all the difference.
well, my point is just that registry is added into the hives even if package has not been mentioned in packages.sof, so why bother editing it?
It is important that packets from the SYS and from OEM (which can be attributed to the group OEMDrivers) were formed in the order of packages.sof. The rest you can adjust with the names (dsm or package, depending on the kitchen).
If you think that the roster of SYS formed not so - you are mistaken.
As an example, you might see messages about the problem of "blank page" in IE.
trust me, i've never modified that file. i always use it without editing, from whichever source i get it. i'm not saying it is useless, but in most cases we don't need to edit this file

1* - If you're cherry-picking a commit that has not gone through a change-Id process, you will not be able to upload it. Simply attempt to upload and when it errors, a change-id will be suggested. Add this Id to the bottom of your commit by amending your original commit statement and then proceed to upload.
git commit --amend
2* - The following format should be used when making your commit statement.
Single project commit example
Short descriptive summary (50 characters or less)
<blank line>
Followed by a more detailed explanation of what you changed and why it was changed.
Bullet points should be used where necessary.
* Denoted either by an asterisk (*)
- Or by hyphens (-)

Best Practice
It is good practice to retain original committer's credentials, such as making sure the commit author is directed to their github username. Also, documentation of where coding came from if cherry picked would be greatly appreciated (provide direct links where possible).
If your are aware of who the original author is but your cherry-pick does not contain this information, you can fill in the original author name by using
git commit --amend --author "FirstName LastName <[email protected]>"

Sorry, was digging around for an answer and the best explanation I can find as to why it cannot be changed was here:
https://code.google.com/p/gerrit/issues/detail?id=1217
Put bluntly, even if we do change it could break other things in Gerrit. Something I'm not a particular fan of doing.

Ok no issues. thanks anyway.
@Anu6is I cherry-picked from the gerrit and made some changes in the files. I now want to upload the changes. When I give the command git commit --amend I make the necessary changes and when I push the change through git push it creates a new open commit. What should I do.
The changes are mere clean up according to the comments in the initial commit.

You need to place the Change ID of the commit on gerrit as the last line of your commit message in terminal.
You can simply copy the change id from gerrit. It's on the right side of the commit message

J700P CyanogenMod Dev Thread (NEW!)

Hey guys, after the recent collapse of the dev thread by messi, I've decided to try to build CM13 for myself. I've created a thread to post progress and such. My vendor and device trees will be updated periodically on Github until the first working build. In a comment below my post, I will post the current error I get when I try to build it.
