I'm having problems with the SuperUser Permissions included on the DamageLess 2.8 ROM. I've never been able to use it correctly, and now I really need to in order to utilize the DCUpdater. Can someone tell me how to work this app??
BTW, i've already tried to run the adb shell in my android sdk folder, but that doesn't work. It keeps telling me that the path syntax is not correct, or something along those lines.

if you have debugging enabled, make sure you aren't connected to your computer, that will cause it to crash. other than that i don't know
As long as you have USB debugging enabled, when a program asks for superuser permission, it will prompt you.

I had the same problem but enabled usb debugging and disconected the phone from the computer and SU is working fine again.
I have USB debugging enabled, disconnected from the PC, but I can't get Superuser to prompt (for any apps) when trying to run Autokiller. I just flashed Fresh 2.1.2 coming from FreshToast. Any help?

i rooted my X10a & have the Superuser Permission install lately. when i click on the icon, it shows a blank screen. i click the menu button > preferences , it shows Action Yap & Notification. there's no apps or anything else. could someone guide me how i get it work?

For anyone having issues with SU (no matter which ROM) check the permissions on the following two binaries:
/system/bin/su
/system/xbin/su
If they're not 755, connect to the shell via ADB and change them - that's worked for several users on Fresh, my guess is that it would probably work on other ROMs as well.

I used Unrevoked to root my desire earlier today. It went through all the steps fine, saying at the end that it was "victorious" and done. I re-booted, and got into the ClockwordMod, so I assume it worked as intended.
I'm trying to delete the stock bloatware off of my device (USCC Desire), but when I used the CMD line to remove some of the .apk files, it tells me they are read only. Does this mean I didn't get Root?
I noticed 3 things after using unrevoked.
1. My boot screen still shows that S-ON, and I was under the impression that Unrevoked turned this off.
2. I can get into clockwordmod, unlike before
3. I have the superuser app showing up on my app's list.
Am I missing something obvious?

To test that you are infact rooted, please do the following:
1. Open command prompt/shell
2. cd into your AndroidSDK directory
3. Issue the command:: adb shell (if you see the # mark, then you are rooted -- otherwise type, su.)
To answer your questions:
1. When your phone says its "read-only file system"; this means that you need to issue the adb remount command; this will remount the system as RW (read/write), at which point you can go on deleting any apps you no longer want.
2. If you still have S-ON, that means you did not run the Unrevoked FOREVER file. You've only ran the Unrevoked 3 file. Notice when going to the Unrevoked site, that there are two different downloads.
3. Clockworkmod/superuser will exist because you are rooted and the process was successful.

I have also done the same commands (remount, remount with a specific directory) and it says "remount not found"
I can get the app list as mentioned, and have attempted to uninstall/remove a stock app, but get the "read-only" file system error. So it sound like the problem comes in either mounting the folder, or getting it to switch to read/write.

What kind of phone? Some phones won't reliably mount the system partition read-write while running in normal mode. You should be able to do it from the clockwork recovery system though.
htc desire on 2.1, from USCC. I have not yet tried to do it from clockwork yet. I will try that later

Okay So ever since I have gotten my Epic a week ago I have felt like a total Noob. I came from an HTC HERO which I rooted manually. My wife has an HTC EVO which I rooted using UNREVOKED ONE CLICK (I know I cheated but she doesnt care). This Epic has me heading back to my roots lol. Either I am a total Noob and this is a simple fix and my dumb ass keeps overlooking it (which at this point I am hoping for) or my Epic is Effed and I need to send it back before my 30 days is up.
Basically my problem is that I cant Adb remount or Adb push to save my life. When I use Adb devices it lists my device so I know my phone is talking with my computer correctly. I first Odin'd to DK28 with the root and clockwork etc. Everything seemed fine except I like to swap stock fonts for custom fonts via Adb, simple things like that. Since I cant remount I figured something was either wrong with the Rom or the Root. So I just tried to load a custom ROM up and try my luck seeing as thats pretty simple. I loaded Epic Experience 2.0.06 and got it all set up as my Daily. Then I got busy and just used it for a few days continuing to tweak my Rom and get it all dialed in for daily use.
I wanted to try ViperRom and see what that was all about so I made a backup in Clockwork and loaded ViperROM with no problem. While ViperROM is pretty snappy its not really my taste so I figured I would wipe and restore my EE backup. No matter how many times I did the data wipe, cache, davlik etc my restore would boot up greeting me with force close after force close. So I ODIN'd back to stock 2.2 then used the one click root exploit to get root. it seems like it worked but still ADB problems continue to persist. I have tried everything I can possibly think or research via XDA but now I am out of ideas.

We have a different method than the Hero did. If you've already tried that, lemme know. Works fine for me on stock rooted, Nebula, and (now) Bonsai.
Also, if that doesn't work, try it from a terminal app on the phone. I use it there more than anything.

Hey man thanks for your input, I really appreciate it. That didnt work either, on ADB or on Terminal Emulator. It responds correctly from both sources with:

I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the 64bit drivers dont install totally. this module called the "Abstract Control Module" hangs forever and doesn't install. However I ran over to my wifes 32 bit vista laptop where the drivers will install totally with no success either.
Hrm... That's very strange. It's telling you that it is working. What is the error you get when trying to move stuff from there? So, after remount rw'ing, cp something into a system folder and post those results.
Your output for remount rw is correct, so let's see where that goes.

Okay so here is what happened.
I just made a simple text file that was entitled "movetest.txt". I placed the file on the sdcard and used terminal emulator to push the files successfully to /system/etc
then I placed it in my C:/Android/tools dir and tried to adb push with no success so I ran shell and was able to succeed via shell here to the fonts dir in system.... here is the code:

Okay since I'm not getting much love from the forum I'm guessing this is an uncommon occurance, in which case I am going to try one more thing before I send it back for a replacement. I am planning on going back to DI18 via odin then one click rooting. Then flashing the modem and other nessecary files to run 2.2 epic experience. Its the only possible thing I can think of that I haven't tried to address my problem. Thanks for the feedback I have gotten thus far.

That last one appears to have worked. Check and see if movetest.txt is in /system/fonts. If so, then you're in business. Just copy stuff across as root instead of pushing.
Well now I can use ADB fully. I odined back to stock then used the one click clockwork 3.0.0.05 ext4 batch then flashed Truley Epic Rebirth 1.2 and was able to remount correctly, push and pull all the way down to the root dir. I am not sure what changed but it just all of the sudden started working.... I'll take that lol

Well my issue was a bit different. I could get it show up with the "devices" command. When I tried to "adb remount" it would deny me. It would reply with "device not found". Which is really wierd because I could ADB shell with root access any day of the week. I just had to change my process to accommodate the limitation.
I would just ADB push files to the sdcard, mount into shell to gain full root permissions then finish my work.
Kind of a strange round about way of going about it but I learned quite a bit more linux commands that way lol

Hi everyone. As a new Kindle Fire user, I bought mine AFTER the recent Kindle 6.2 update. After following step-by-step the instructions posted on this forum to root KF, I seemed to have succeeded at my first attempt. However, when trying to copy and paste either vending.apk or amarket.apk to system/app folder using File Expert which I got from Amazon store, I couldn't get it to work. This means I don't see either apps in the system app folder after I paste them there. I followed the instructions to the T and rebooted KF, still no show. I then tried to install it via adb, I was able to "adb install" googleservice frameworks on KF. But when trying to "adb push" the market app to system/app, I keep getting "adb access denied". I tried re-rooting with superoneclick, still can't "adb push".
I really don't know what went wrong. BTW, I could hard install the market app on to KF and gained access to the market. (I thought KF blocked it.) But all my download from android market seem unsuccessful. I need help. Thanks.
Problem solved. And here's what I found out and how I made it work. Thanks for everyone who posted to help.

This time I realized it was the File Expert app that's causing this problem. Although it seems like File Expert could gain full access to the system, it doesn't allow you to make any modification to the system folder. I know someone claimed it worked on theirs. But if your File Expert comes from Amazon app store, it DOES NOT work when you try to paste anything into the system. When I realized that ROOT EXPLORER is no longer available on Amazon, I figured that could be the reason. After downloading Root Explorer to my PC and installed it onto KF, everything worked like a charm! So for those of you who encounter similar problems, it's not you. It could be the File Expert app that you got from Amazon.

Thanks Felnarion. But I did that. It didn't help. I followed the instructions step by step. Don't where the problem is. I find it hard to believe that KF allows me to do regular install of android market(the market icon even shows on the carousel) but I can't do it the "sneaky" way? Anyone else tried installing market app directly from the sd card?
In that case I think it's your app. I just downloaded file expert and had problems copying to /system as well.
Try root explorer, haven't had any problems with it.

This might be a dumb question, but did you

and click OK on the Superuser prompt on the KF screen prior to the adb push attempts? Were you able to mount /system rw through adb? If adb can't get root access there's no way File Expert will be able to.

File Expert works fine. I've used it to do all my root related installs. You just have to make sure you check the 'Root Explorer' box under Settings>File Explorer Settings before trying to do any /system mounts, it's off by default.
Thank you everyone for your help. If I remember correctly, I did try "su" in adb. but not sure if entered the code correctly. I also heard about File Expert could be the cause when it comes to gaining permissions. I checked root explorer on File expert settings as well. I'm beginning to wonder if my hard install of market app ,which worked to my surprise, messed things up. I will try to reset my KF to factory setting and start over again. I will report back with the result. Once again, I really appreciate everyone's help.

Interesting. I was the one it worked for and I'm pretty sure I got mine from the Market, not Amazon. Good thing I haven't clicked that update button from within Amazon App Store.

I don't have access to a windows machine at home that I can use to get root on my LG G2. I would really appreciate it if someone could make a guide (Text or Youtube even better) or a root tool like the one I linked to above. I'm not trying to be a mac snob which I'm not...I just do a lot of design work and photo editing and have used Mac's since I find that most of the studios I deal with all use them and I need to be able to exchange files that are compatible. I would really appreciate some help with regards to doing this on my MAC. Thanks for listening and I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I used the method by thecubed in the development section. I unzipped it and followed the adb commands in the .bat file (right click that file, open with text editor). Don't forget the part about unplugging the USB cable and disabling and then enabling debugging.

You are not actually using his program, just the files and commands. Everything is done using Terminal and the Finder. You must have ADB working, look elsewhere for instructions on setting that up.

I used parallels installed Windows 7 I could have drove home and grabbed my laptop but that would have been to easy lol.
But now my mom is happy to see Windows android and osx lion on a 2009 MacBook pro I was surprised how well it went I thought I was going to have driver issues or something would go wrong but it was like I was using a straight up Windows 7 laptop. If that program was available for ubuntu a lot if people would be happy campers ?

I am needing to flash this thing back to stock so I can take it to the Verizon Store for an exchange. All I really have is a Mac.... I'd really like to know how to flash it back to stock, unrooted. I have some experience, but please be very clear as I really don't want to mess up. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help.

you wouldnt happen to know which files in there are for the tmobile g2 would you? im also trying to root on mac.
You'll have to look in the .bat file, it will show which file needs to be used for T-Mobile.

Download it, unzip it, and then take a moment to go back and thank him if you didn't do that.
You are not actually using his program, just the files and commands. Everything is done using Terminal and the Finder. You must have ADB working, look elsewhere for instructions on setting that up.
The files used here are the Verizon versions of the files, which I used for my phone. They are also specific to the OTA'd Verizon software, "11A" so there are different files if you haven't installed the OTA. These commands are correct, but the files being pushed aren't all the same between different carrier models and do not work with any other carrier. All the right stuff for other carriers is contained in thecubed's program.
The bold sections are files you need to send over adb, you can manually enter the file pathway or drag the files from finder into terminal after the adb commands (and before you type the destinations).
One more warning; if this is your first time using adb or terminal, I don't recommend this as your first try. It's super easy to screw something up in terminal.
Your phone must have developer options enabled and usb debugging on. plug in your phone via usb and select "Internet" and then "Ethernet."
adb push ytiruces_1a_vzw /sdcard/ytiruces_1a
Unplug usb, disable USB debugging and then re-enable it. Plug USB back in.
adb shell "mount -o remount,rw /system"
adb push su /system/xbin/su

Haven't used adb before, but I'm no noob to rooting /flashing. I got adb installed and working on my computer now (running Ubuntu). After I launch adb in the terminal, then I just type these commands? (copy paste?)
You could only copy and paste if you have a Verizon g2 with the ota update, if it's any other version you'll be using different files than the ones I have used.
Yeah, I have the Verizon g2 and I guess it's got the ota... There are no pending updates right now
Two problems on mac
I'm getting two error messages. The first is a line 2 error on the g2 security. The second is 'operation not permitted' for a mount command. Anyone have any solutions?
