ok..im new to the galaxy and android phones .. i bought the phone rooted..not sure all what it had but i was running i believe a different rom on the phone, 2.1 update 1 i believe, it had rom manager and clockwork recovery on it, anyway .. i tried doing the lag fix and now the phone just turns on and stays on black screen.. keys at the bottom stay lit up also.. i can get into recovery but not really seeing anything in there that is helping.. can i factory reset or something from this recovery screen? like i said im not real familiar with these phones but im good with directions so if someone can explain how to fix this that would be great! thanks!
Hi, did you try using odin to flash back to stock?
the files you need to flash are in this thread
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
Also make sure you have samsung drivers installed on your computer. Which can be located here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
A stable version of odin is in this thread
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790026
steps
1. you will need to download odin..open it
2.Make sure your phone is off. connect your phone via usb and get into download mode(hold the volume keys+power when screen turns black let go of power button) now you should see a yellow triangle with android icon
3.to make sure your comp recognizes the phone.. pull out usb and put it back into the phone.
4. look at the first link i posted and flash the files accordingly and you should be good to go.
ok..i will try it. unfortunately i use my phone to tether so now im back on my blackberry which is SLOW.. odin is saying like 4hrs to download..loL!
I had the same issue. It sounds like you didn't install a BusyBox version that has extfs support built in. I could swear that the lag fix option I pulled down was supposed to have it, but it didn't. If you made a nandroid backup before you tried this, you should be able to get into recovery and restore. If not, you'll have to get to download mode and Odin flash back to stock.
If your phone is hardware locked, with the state your phone is in, you SHOULD be able to do an "adb reboot download" or "adb reboot recovery" to get into those modes.

In an effort to get back to stock I took things a step too far and now have a phone that won't power on. I had successfully rooted the phone and installed Rom Manager and flashed the clockwork recovery and immediately created a nandroid backup. Sometime later my phone started acting funny... usb connected/disconnected events when it was not plugged in, crashes, etc. I felt confident that this was a hardware issue (started after my daughter chewed on it when I wasn't looking). Anyway, I followed the instructions here in the dev forum (True Stock 2.1 firmware for vibrant) for the vibrant to get back to stock ( I apparently can't post the link because I'm new...) . So that I'd be able to try and get it replaced. I kept noticing that no matter how hard I tried clockwork was still installed... then I did the bad thing. I should have known better, but I made the rookie mistake and deleted the clockwork folder from the internal flash. I don't know what possessed me to do it, but I did. Since then the phone doesn't seem to boot. I can get it into download mode to flash images from odin (battery out, battery in, volume up + volume down, connect usb and download comes on). And after a successful download it seems to restart ok. But if it crashes (which it is now prone to do) or is powered off it won't boot after that. Worse I can't get to the stock recovery either.
I'm hoping that someone who has a nice rooted stock phone with clockwork installed can just help me get a copy of that folder back and everything will be fine... if not I may just have to see if playing dumb with tmobile will get the phone replaced as is...
Thanks in advance for any help.
Are you talking about stuff in /sdcard? If so, that won't effect the boot. You could delete everything in there and not change anything. Some apps might not work as you will have deleted their data, but if you're flashing a stock ROM with Odin, that's fine.
Enable debug mode in the settings and use "adb reboot recovery" at a command prompt. That should get you to the stock recovery. Try a factory reset from there, that might help. If not, delete anything in /sdcard that's not supposed to be there and swap with TMobile as it sounds a hardware issue at that point. Don't forget to keep your external SD card if you've replaced it.
Is USB debugging on?
When you get the phone up, can you connect to it via ADB and then adb reboot recovery or adb reboot download?
Thanks for the suggestions. I did get the sdk installed and used adb to reboot into normal recovery, so it's not completely boned. Since I could use adb for resets I went ahead and followed the rooting process again and reflashed clockwork. The phone still won't boot on it's own. I'm starting to think whatever was going south with the hardware has continued to get worse. I'm going to use odin to get back to "true stock" again and try to use adb to reboot into recovery and do a factory reset suggested above and see if that helps.
Thanks again.
I went back to stock with odin, ran the factory reset, and still can't power up normally or into recovery. I can get into download though, load with odin, come up normally after the reset. I'm going to try giving it back to Tmobile in it's refusing to power up state and see if I can get them to swap it. It's as stock as I can make it so the problem should not be mine.
Thanks again for the help.
FWIW - i just installed Rom manager this morning, the premium version, and today experienced 5 force closures, one on google maps
before this i've had maybe one FC some 2-3 weeks ago - and like you i did a clockworkrecovery backup or nandroid backup
skipping the back story.
my phone altho i did not want it to be, it was updated.
now it will not go past the first vibrant screen.
phone was rooted and had the OCLF on it.
i can not get it to download mode to use odin to go back to stock.
when holding voldown plus power it just sends into a reboot cycle.
any help?!?!
Are you able to use ADB at all?
Turn the phone off.
When you see the battery screen hold vol down + up + power buttons. Release power button when the screen goes black and you should be in download.
Happy flashing.
Had the same problem...go T-Mobile!

I'm kinda new to this, I'm not exactly sure what exactly ADB is?
It's part of the dev tools pack. You can download it from google. If you're stuck at the boot screen though, chances are the adb server on the phone hasn't loaded up. Just keep trying for download mode, if you really can't get in, take it to a tmobile store and tell them the OTA update broke your phone. Which is true. Don't mention root, lagfix, etc. It's not relevant and will only confuse things. And they have said that not getting into recovery and download mode is a bug they will take the phone back for.
Here's how I get download mode from this condition, which I get a LOT as I build kernels.
Remove USB and battery
Install battery.
Hold both volume buttons and quickly install the USB
The phone should power up right to download mode. Odin is a finiky B!$%&. It helps to have it loaded up with the files you want to flash before getting the phone into download mode. Once Odin sees the phone, hit start and let it do it's thing. Check the dev forum for the stock ROM thread. There's a pack you can download that includes the drivers for your computer, Odin, and the ROM files.
If the stock ROM won't install, try the "Froyo that won't brick" first, if that works, try the stock one again. There seems to be something about that Froyo release that helps phones that get stuck.
Then you can run stock and wait for the OTA, or install a nice mod ROM like Bionix or Frankin-TWiz. And I'm sure the JI6 OTA file will get pulled and posted up here for us to install with Odin or via recovery. Personally, I've never done and Android OTA update, I always have the updates before they make it to the OTA, or I'm running something better. Right now, I'm digging on Bionix.
ok so here is what happened i have a stock US retail wifi only 16gb tab no clockwork recovery or none of that , im kind of a noob when it comes to that stuff, so today i received the update cool i downloaded it but it didn't install the first time for some reason. The it said a previous update was sucessfully downloaded but did not install do i wish to instal so i clicked yest and it said tab is about to reboot, clicked ok and it took me to this black and grey screen like the boot screen only with a loadbar and it zoomed to 100 percent. then i got the original samsung galaxy boot logo and the noise but no animation then the screen goes to this nasty screen with alot of colorful lines and dots everywhere and i cant see anything looks terrible.
Heres what i can do i can go into the bootloader by pressing power and volume. and i already tried to do a restore/wipe but didnt help, i can also plug it in to the computer and use the sd card and put and remove files from tab. im wondering if i can somehow get the update put it in the tab and install from there and see if it works or if i can get stock honeycomb and try to see if that works because they guy at samsung was clueless he didnt get the fact that i cant use the OS and said i need to get it serviced when i know its a software problem.
exact same thing happened to me! keep me posted
I've just got absolutely the same problem. I have a stock wifi 32gb version.
If you can get to your bootloader and sdcard still then why don't you just install CWM and try flashing the stock 3.1 OTA?
All the files you need and instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
Once you're done flash the stock recovery back and try the update again, or just wait for one of the devs to release a flashable zip.
sorry if im mistaken but dont i need to be able to use the tab and install something from the market place to be able to install CWM thats what im getting from what i read?
I can't even get my bootloader. Holy f**k am I pissed. Does anyone have any ideas??
Ok. So I installed the Samsung Kies software. It recognizes the device and shows that the update is available. However, it says that the battery should be fully charged. So now I am waiting for the full charge to proceed.
Hope the Kies helps.
I'll try that too. ahh

No.
Go to the thread I linked, download the files, watch the youtube video.
1. Install the GT-p7510_USB_Driver if you haven't already
2. Start Odin - untick the auto reboot option
3. Click PDA and choose recovery-cwm_4.0.0.4-sam-tab-10.1.tar.md5
4. Power up your tab and get it into download mode (power down + vol down, then vol up)
5. connect the tab to your PC, one of the boxes in odin should highlight yellow and say com 4 or whatever.
6. press start and it'll flash CWM to your tab
7. wait till it's done, it should only take a few seconds and the boxes will turn green.
8. power down your tab and unplug it from your pc
9. boot into CWM, (power down + vol down, vol down to select CWM, vol up to enter.
10. flash hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip
11. do a factory wipe in CWM and wipe davlik just to be safe
12. reboot, and hopefully you'll be back to stock 3.1
From here you can do whatever you want.
Connect it to a PC and there's a firmware recovery on KIES. Hope that works!

it didn't work for me. There were no devices in the list to recover.
I'm going to try it once my kies is finished updating. I really hope this works.
haha well first and formost i want to thank everyone for thier input. I did alot of searching online i tried KIES samsung tech support was useless. So i found the instructions on how to put clockwork on a locked bootloader got it on there and flashes the stock rom and it worked my tab is now back! only problem now is i tried to update again and only go the minor update and it doesnt find the big one lol but cant complain ill just wait lol thanks again. and to others who had the same problem dont deal with KIES to recover its useless unless you were using the program to update. I suggest getting CWM and flashing stock since thats what worked for me?

Glad to hear it worked.
Since you now have CWM, just download the flashable zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198921
Make sure you do a factory reset in CWM after you flash this, otherwise you'll bootloop.

I would go this way:

Thank you DocRambone, flashing that via Odin got me up and running.
Then I flashed CWM as per earlier post and then flashed the Stock UEKMB + root ROM and I guess I am good to go.
Ok guys. This is my report. I used the Kies to update. The firmware was updated successfully and now the tablet works perfectly!
So this is easier and less painful method than using CWM described above =)) (but thanks to hoodoomagic for the description anyway)
Hope this will help somebody.
Hi All,
I need your help. I downloaded the latest update for the S4 this morning after i clicked yes for the phone to reboot. It didn't turn back on. Everytime I try to turn it on, it vibrates but it doesn't show the logo. I also tried entering the recovery mode or download mode but there's nothing on the screen. I also tried removing the battery for several minutes and then tried the things i said above.
Is there any other way I can boot this or reformat my phone? Please help.
Thank you very much in advance
Same here.. I had the same problem.. I did try reset it and go to recovery mode, once on recovery mode, i can choose any option because it automatically goes back to install the update. And then after installation it stuck at the boot screen again and can't turn on. I had my phone rooted before but I already flash my phone back to stock. During the period where i root my phone i never install any custom ROM and whatsoever..

What I would do is go to ebay or online stores and buy a USB JIG it works perfect on Samsung Galaxy S4
and other android phones. The price is right too, anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00 including shipping.
Here is a link worth looking at:
https://www.google.com/search?q=andr...icial&tbm=shop
JIGS are made for issues just like the ones you and @lasallegreen are experiencing.
All you need to do with the jig is first remove the battery from your phone for
20 seconds and replace it, then plug the USB jig into the usb port of the phone.
Wait a couple seconds or so and you will see the download mode screen.
Unplug the usb jig and load/open odin and after putting the stock rom in the
pda slot in odin connect usb cable from phone to computer.
Make sure the [COM:xx] lights up in Odin and click START.
Once odin successfully flashes the official stock rom the
phone will again be in perfect condition ready to use.
Your phone is NOT hard bricked, but most likely it is soft bricked meaning that it can be fixed to
come back to life after Odin flashing the official Samsung S4 stock firmware/rom which you can
find and download from http://SamMobile.com by searching by the model number of your phone.
Good luck!
Will try this method.. Thank you very much for your kind reply.. Will let you know of the outcome..

i was able to flash the stock rom using odin to see if that is the problem. I was successful in flashing but there's still nothing on my screen.
update: when i leave it for a few hours or so, there are times that the screen turns on and then it boots normally but if you reboot it's back to its frozen state. I hope someone can help me with this.
I had to reboot my device due to problems with my speaker. Now i'm not able to boot anymore.
I'm only able to get into ODIN Mode, and flashing new FW or TWRP does nothing. It'll flash correctly, but as soon as it sends the reboot command the device powers off and does not boot, and no, it does not reach the "Galaxy s8, powered by android screen".
It does not want to power on, and only responds to the odin button combo, can't boot into recovery either since nothing works.
I was running the latest version of Renovate Ice if that matters.
I've searched trough some other threads, but it seems like i'm the only one that's having this problem.
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Edit 1: I've tried flashing both AQK7 and AQG5. Both flash fine, but as soon as odin sends the reboot command to my phone, it turns off and does not turn on.
Auto Reboot is ticked. Same goes for any version of TWRP, it will flash, but when it has to reboot the device turns off and does not turn on. There's nothing on the screen, its completely black and the only thing that does work is Download Mode. I've also tried ereasing nand, and repartitioning storage. Both seem to have 0 effect. As stated in one of my replies, i was running the latest build of renovate-ice with magisk, no other mods, or themes installed.
Im a bit confused - you can only boot into download mode (not into twrp?) and the phone is in bootloop? Have you flashed anything (mod?) before or activated a substratum theme which could cause this?
The only thing I can think of is a) you delete in twrp file manager the corrupted file, if there is something like this or b) a twrp restore from a backup. Boot into download mode and then do not press vol up to go into odin mode but press vol down to reboot - then immediately press the combo for twrp and you will get to the recovery. This helped my s8 many times when I was in a bootloop and couldnt boot up twrp

Thanks for the reply! Other than using the Renovate-Ice rom, and running magisk the thing was pretty much stock. wasn't messing around in twrp either. Its not stuck in a bootloop either, it just refuses to do anything other than go in and out of DL mode. The phone does not respond to any button imputs other than DL mode. As stated in the OP it does not boot at all, just a black screen. i've already tried to reflash a stock FW and TWRP, but that does not seem to work...
try the method I did - this is the last thing I could think of, before reflash the whole phone with odin

Doesn't work sadly, but thanks for the help anyways!
but you havent installed Viper4Arise or anything like that?
Because of this my speaker also stopped working a few weeks ago
if you can get into download mode then get into download mode and leave phone, then download samsung smart switch for your pc (older version like 4.1.17022_20 from here http://www.filehorse.com/download-samsung-smart-switch/29268/ that allows phone based recovery), once installed open it, then click on more at top right, (do not update the software if you get a prompt) select emergency device recovery...., then click on right tab (device initialisation) and fill in your phone details etc., connect your phone (in download mode) and follow the process, maybe it works, you'll need to root and install TWRP again but thats no big issue.
