Ok for example, I buy the code on ebay but they give me the instructions to unlock the phone???? Because the phone just let me make emergency calls
Do u have the code already? Should ask u for code when u put new sim card in and turn it on I believe

I don't have the code but when I turn on the phone he just said emergrncy calls, no sim card and press menu to unlock
You need to call T-Mobile, they will give you a code for free to unlock the phone for you to use. Why waste money when all you need to do is call?

Ok so here's a question.
I have a Rooted with Indigo Bean Legend on the Bell Network.
If I want to use that phone on the FIDO network, I put in my sim card and it asks for a password.
.I thought if it was rooted, then it was automatically "unlocked " to different carriers. I can buy a password and am willing to unlock it myself, but is that what I need to do, and will that mess up any of the rooting that's done?
Rooting doesn't unlock the phone. So yeah you'll have to use an unlock code.

Using an unlock code will permanently unlock the phone to be used on any carrier. Rooting does not unlock the phone.

I doubt it will mess with your rooting, I used cellunlock.net along with coupon code crackb50 to get my unlock code, cost me $10 (down from $20) but unfortunately, they increased it to $30, so now after 50% off, it's $15.
So is there ANYONE else out there with a working unlocked g2?! I'm just wondering because ever since I posted a pic of my phone working on at&t I've been constantly getting pms asking how I did it.

I'm assuming that people don't understand where they enter their unlock code. If this is anything like the other Android devices I've owned, then they have to stick in a sim card that doesn't belong to the carrier it's locked to. After you do that, it will ask you for the code to enter in.

Well obviously some of the phones that where unlocked do not register to the cell network anymore. They can not even scan for networks.
So if you want to provide some help here then please:
Tell us how the unlock process worked. Especially did you phone reboot after you entered the code. How long did the reboot take, ...
If you can an want please provide a logcat of the radio from the moment of boot until the data connection is established.
Thanks
I got my unlock code emailed to me, but I'm going to get a new phone at Costco today. The deal is just too good to pass up vs. from the T-mobile store.
After I get the new phone I'll unlock it!
Did they get their codes from tmobile or another source? Even in the instructions it said it was gonna reboot. Mine did after I typed it in then the reboot was as long as a normal reboot. And that's it

My friend on att is looking for a phone and considering the myTouch4g... how easily can it be unlocked?
Thanks

Look at it this way: I've never unlocked a phone in my life, not even my brothers iTouch. Not because I didn't know how, just because I never needed to. It is stupidly easy, unless you have issues following simple instructions.
two options:
1. call tmobile for the unlock code
2. perform ultimate s=off root (do a search should come right up)
not too hard to do if you follow the instructions
Awesome, I intended to root it anyways.
Thanks!

yea the SuperCID and ./gfree will unlock the SIM.

Yes using the ./Gfree method will unlock the sim but before you root that way make sure you have the "good" emmc chip as a lot of phones have randomly been becoming bricks using ./Gfree
You can read about it and how to check your phone if you have the "good" or "bad" chip. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079025

make sure you're inserting the sim properly
As far as I know the my touch 4G (unlocked) will work on att's network but will not be able to use the 3G service because T mobile uses a different frequency for its 3g nand
Yea in the video for installing gfree the guy said you would not get 4g or 3g. If you went with AT&T.
This may be dumb question, but why unlock the MyTouch4G when you can just get the Inspire for AT&T? It's similar spec-wise with a larger screen and will get HSPA+.

is there a sim unlock for mt4g on gingerbread yet? i've read about gfree unlock but that requires you to downgrade to froyo and i don't feel like going into that trouble. My phone is currently forever rooted running CM7. thanks

yeah just make sure you don't have ANY overdue bills, or else you' wait 3-7 days just to get an email that says you were denied of the unlock code. This happened to me.
No, and most likely there won't ever be.

1) have an account in good standings for more that 90days, call t-mobile tell them you are going out of county and need the unlock code. They by law have to give it to you.
2) Search. The ./gfree root method will give you an option to SIM unlock your device all by your self.
Yeah.. Please help us.
