Wifi-calling/UMA on mytouch 3g slide/mytouch hd - myTouch 3G Slide General

Do you think we will get an update, and do you think it will come for the mytouch hd?

This will NOT be available to all Android devices. We were told it would be available only to “select new devices.” You won’t be able to get it from the Android market and it’s possible devices will be getting OTA updates to activate the feature. The above image looks like the shot came from the G2, as did our own picture down below. The second shot, however, looks like it might have come from a Samsung Vibrant so it’s possible that device would receive an update to this as well! Though at this point, which phones would receive this feature is anyone’s guess. Then again, we obviously have a great argument for both the G2 and the LG Optimus!

Quote from your link. It doesn't seem so. None of the carriers or handset manufacturers seem particularly interested in pushing new features to older phones, unless they're top-of-the-line, flagship devices that are selling well. It would require them to rethink their entire business model which is something like "subsidize a phone for a two-year contract lock, even though the phone will likely be replaced within a year's time by a few better phones."
They haven't caught up with the idea that phones are becoming more computer-like and that customers expect timely updates and new features on previous models. They're still working as if they're selling you a monolithic Nokia flip-phone from 2001.

The slide is the flagship, anyways can't wait for the mytouch hd, I wanna see it in white

I think cyanogen will include it in the future. At least I hope so.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

That's possible...but look at the gotta-get trends. Everyone's talking about the Vibrant and the G2, now. The Slide may have had flagship status, but it's already past its peak only a few months on.
As for Cyanogen, I wouldn't count on that as well. He's already been slapped with one C&D letter from a corporation. He's very careful about putting contentious software in his ROMs.
I'd love to see it, but I'm not that optimistic about it on the Slide.

I asked our company's T-Mobile rep this very question. Although we mainly use Blackberries, I personally have a Slide and he says that "Yes I was told that it will be available on the MyTouch Slide."
Reps have been known to be wrong and sometimes tell you what they think you want to hear but he's been pretty straight-forward so far so I am hoping he's right in this case.

If it does work, don't listen to those idiots about it costing extra. When I had my BB, I asked all sorts of queation which boiled down to two key points:
- You can purchase a Call @ Home plan, which would give you an extra bucket of minutes used when making UMA calls
or
- Buy nothing extra, and UMA calls would simply come out of whatever minutes you already have.

My wife rocks the MT3G Slide. We have unlimited plans, but terrible reception at home. I have the MT4G and LOVE it. It came with wifi calling...
At this point I either need to beg T-Mo to sell us another 4G for her or get her wifi calling working...
Siegel

I believe it would take someone building a kernel that supports it before it would work on the slide.
Sent from my HTC "Iced Glacier" using XDA App

I hope we get a 2.2 update with the wifi calling as they have suggested, but has anyone tried nettalk? I just recently installed it and it seems to work pretty well with the 3GS. Just curious if anyone else had experience using it. Seems like it covers the Wifi/3G calling fairly well.

Hey guys... been a lurker for awhile and finally decided to join to post. Isn't UMA calling being added in the CM7 nightlies? It would be nice to have on the slide with 2.2.
I installed this apk but it will not connect, most likely as it doesn't recognize my phone number and SIM information. Is there a way to get the system to recognize those?

I like the idea of UMA calling. But I want it to be available on a stable ROM. So far Cyanogen 6.1.1 has been great. Can it only be implemented to a CM7 ROM?

I am running the CM7 nightly and it keeps crashing my phone every time I try to connect to my WiFi @home....

Hi guys I hope
i get a reply soon today
I am purchasing this phone for my brother(or the cliq 2)
and i see here you guys are talking about when wi-fi calling will come
to the phone
i see that on the tmobile website it says it has wi-fi calling on it
already
is this true?
thanks,

I don't think it does quite yet. A few roms have come out with it, NB, CR and whoever else has messed with the OTA... But I don't think the official 2.2 from T-Mo has arrived yet.

The lament over HD in US...

I realize I'll do nothing but create clutter with this post.... but I am doing it anyway
I've looked at everything out there (in the US)... Diamond, Touch Pro, upcoming Omnia (at Verizon), even thought about Xperia... Nothing comes close to HD, in my mind. But buying it without network discounts and giving up 3G is crazy too.
I am completely bummed out about it. HTC, damn you! Why hasn't someone else stepped up to make phone like this that works in the US. High-res screen, high-res camera, thin, with screen of at least 3.5"? Ya know, so you can actually thumb-type without the hardware keyboard? Even if you have fingers that are bigger than a 7-year-old's? Like a normal person...
All this can make someone go old-school BlackBerry... and they don't have a cure for that...

for you, giving up network discounts and 3G is crazy. for me, those 2 criteria are low on my list. i view it more as a tradeoff/investment to get what i want (not what i need, lol). i used 1 subsidized device in that past 4 years; everything else was/is unsubsidized. my experience suggests that unlocked/unsubsidized devices sale faster and at higher prices. anyway, i resale my phones via ebay and use the proceeds to fund some or all of the cost of my next device. i must admit that i've been fortunate enough to also fund my tech habit via dividends from sporting "investments". we all have our addictions, vices, etc. unfortunately, the phone addiction can be an expensive one.

i agree with you 100%! my suspicions are that contractual agreements between htc and at&t and at&t and "the fruit company" have something to do with the HD not coming to the US. at&t is the only GSM carrier with an extended 3G footprint and bringing the HD to at&t would directly compete against the fruity phone. the fruit company wouldn't like that, lol. now that still doesn't explain why the HD is missing the us 3G bands...this could be due to technical reasons.

with the improved sensitivity of the HD, one-handed or two-handed thumb typing is better than i expected. there's always room for improvement, but it works very well for me.

tried the crackberry drug once and had major withdrawal issues, lol. for me, it's not a viable substitute.
Feeding the addiction, eh? I'd actually live without 3G -- I keep my Kaiser on Edge most of the time anyway, if only it was cheaper. I am just surprised this is the only phone either than the fruity company's youPhone that has a touchscreen >= 3.5" (HTC Universal excluded). Bastardos... the lot of'em.
Answer me this...
I couldn't hold out anymore and I ordered one from the Uk. Now everyday I'm thinking of sekking it for a AT&T Fuze to get 3G back, but this is what I don't get. I had a Polaris, which as far as I know never was released on a carrier here; yet it still ran US 3G. WHY DON"T THEY DO THAT WITH THIS THING!!?

so, if you're selling to get 3G, you must be using 3G extensively everyday? true? if yes, and i was in your shoes, i would have passed on the HD. regarding the 3G bands, well, marketing decisions by someone led them to exclude the 3G bands on the HD. the market has changed (for whatever reaason) since the Polaris was relased. the first evidence of that was the release of the Diamond without 3G. we're just small pawns in the game...
3G remorse
Yes, I lived in Orlando and now NY where both had great 3G almost all times. I am constantly checking the internet on pricing items and looking at emails. I hate to admit this too, but the Iphone 3G was pretty functional for me. I just hate Mac everything so i got rid of it. I just love the screen on the HD though! I think I'm buying a Polaris tomorrow.
Man, if i could get this phone, i could care less about 3G lol. I am with sprint, but am willing to ORDER THIS PHONE FROM ACROSS THE POND, have it shipped over here and getting an At&t plan or something and using the sim card in this phone.....just to have this phone. Knowing me......i will probably buy this phone, a good friend of mine ordered it and had it shipped to him the other day. I am going to visit him for the holidays and will finally FINALLY get some hands on with this bad A** phone.

I went through the exact thoughts after getting my omnia. I lacked the willpower to hold off for the HD. After having having the omnia two weeks I broke the piggy(again) to get the HD.
I'm with US t-mo, limiting my 3G options to the G1, which does does not impress. I'm satisfied with 2G and WiFi.
Ultimately, I'm extremely happy with the beautiful screen and build quality.
By the way, anyone want to buy a slightly used omnia....CHEAP!
ME TOO lol. Im with sprint right now and would give anything to get my hands on this phone. So you have t-mobile? I thought this phone could only run on At&T? Am i missing something, i live in right behind a t-mobile store, what did you do to get your plan onto the HD and get it running? PM ME IF NEED BE

It's a GSM phone, so if it's not locked it will work on any GSM network -- that's AT&T and T-mo in the US.
Ok, so lets say that you can get this phone unlocked here in the U.S. And sign up with T-mobile with one of their plans, could you just switch out the sim card from the phone you get into this phone? Im really interested in getting this phone and am willing to open up a contract with either T-MOBILE or At&t. Im not a big talker but am a big texter. I was looking into the basic myfaves plan but was wondering if you could use the pay-as-you-go plans with this phone also. Any one have any suggestions?

it's already unlocked if you purchase from someone like Clove, Expansys. and yes, all you have to do is pop in your SIM card and you're good to go. i got mine from Clove Technologies and it's working great on at&t. it will even configure your internet settings...
you read my mind cortez I was going to order it from them too. im thinking about opening a plan with t-mobile since they have cheaper plans an I think I can narrow down to 5 people to put on my faves. any suggestions man ever since I got my hands on this phone the other day which it was my friends...all I can do is think about how to get it to work in the u.s.

G1 died today.....what phone to get

So ya i was hoping my G1 would survive till an android phone with the 1ghz cpu was released to t-mobile in store, but it didn't make it. Unfortunately i cant get the Nexus in the t-mobile store, which i think was a terrible idea on google's side, but whatever. What other android phone you guys think would be a great device to have?
got the wife a Behold 2, and its AWESOME.....after i rooted it and put a custom rom on it. The mytouch is ok. reminds me a lot of the G1. Ill never buy a motorola product ever again.......does anyone know of any other android devices coming out for t-mobile anytime soon?
thanks a ton for the time!
cheers!
The HD2? It's Winmo but these clever minds here on XDA will soon put Android on it, I'm pretty sure.
I felt the MT3G is a vast difference from G1, and you can check out the 1.2 version as well.

It sounds like we may be in similar situations, this is what I am thinking:
Im wondering the same thing. i have a mytouch, and wife now needs a new phone. Not getting the nexus bc of the family plan we have, and not gonna spend $500 on it.
Since it does not look like tmobile is coming out with any new (nexus like performance) phones really soon, this is what I think we are going to do, maybe good for you too:
I think we are going to find a mytouch on craigslist (like mine). hopefully for around $150. root it so that it runs good, and wait for tmobile to come out with something good, then use upgrade to get discount on new phone. Then sell the mytouch (purchased from craigslist) on ebay for about the same, if not more...
sounds like we are in the similar situations, so figured i would share about the only option I can see would be good. What do you think? good luck

No, it was a very good idea. T-Mobile would lock it down and not let it be used on any other carrier, without unlocking. I'm sure you know that a large portion (probably around 60 - 70%, if not, more) of all cell phone users have never even HEARD of unlocking. Not being on just one carrier = more buyers. More buyers = more money.

Aside from the CDMA junk, both GSM versions are happy to work on other networks, not just the one whose 3G band is compatible.
I.e., the tmobile3G version is compatible with ATT2G, and the ATT3G version is compatible with tmobile2G. They are both compatible with INTERNATIONAL2G and some 3G.
Further, if you decide to go to.... europe, or wherever, with an unlocked phone, you can buy a LOCAL SIMCARD and it will work IFF your phone is unlocked.
But there is MORE TO BEING UNLOCKED than just sim-unlocked. There is also FIRMWARE unlocked, and with GN1, it is TRIVIAL -- "fastboot oem unlock" is the command. This allows you to load CUSTOM FIRMWARE to the device.... which is not possible with a carrier-branded device.
If you like the phone, buy it from google. They are a very reputable seller.
Expect this in the future though: as 2G dies away, you will start to see 3G-only devices with full 6-band 3G radios -- 850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100. These devices, when they appear, will be universal.

No, the Desire is going to be exclusive to Verizon in the US, thus cannot be used on T-Mobile because it is CDMA.

Heck yeah the HD2 is awsome, even though its not android. Like somebody above said people here at XDA will find a way to put android on it. That HUGE screen is amazing.
If you ask T-Mobile they are sure to say that one of their "lovely" blur devices is what you want, kindly kick their shin and spit on them if they do
and then Toot and, oh, I apologize, TWEET and inform us what phone you got on your way to jail.

JUST FYI, NO U.S.A carriers has been announced for the Desire or Legend and since HTC wants this to be their "super phone" it will most likely be GSM since it will be world compatible (on edge anyway) You are probably thinking about the HTC Incredible (A completely different phone)
Any way I would go with the HTC HD2 since it is a great device and there will be an android rom for it one day and when a great android phone comes out for t-mobile just sell the HTC HD2 (someone will buy it on XDA, you should get around $300 for it if you take care of it)

moto isn't a good company. They been saying for a few months that the droid will get the 2.1 update in a week but it has been pushed back a lot of times. They finally pushed the update but to the milestone (droid's name for other countries) so now the droid users are pissed.
I would only choose moto for an android phone as a last resort because HTC is the brand for me.
WOW! The HTC Legend looks amazing!!

I thought the supersonic/EVO was the android version of HD2.
only thing I like about the HD2 is how big the screen is...yet so thin like a razor, but I'd much rather wait...even if the devs dished out a android rom for it tonight, I don't want to waste my upgrade on a WMO phone regardless of it's value or capability...simply because I'm stubborn
As far as the Desire goes, I believe it will be coming to T-mobile and if not, more likely a universal unlocked release like the N1...but as far as the Verizon only rumor, bullsh*t. HTC would never let me down like Moto did with the Droid
I have had up close experience with the N1, (friend of mines owns it), lovely phone, simply the best Android has to offer right now until proven otherwise by a later release, but I'm not going for it
If I'm going dish $500 bucks or more for something it will most def. be the Desire...because that is what I desire

[Unconfirmed] T-Mobile Official Phone Support

So I had to unfortunate encounter of having to replace my new shiny tab because of an issue with the screen. However, I was told by the support tech that T-Mobile will roll out an update that will allow the device to be used as a fully functional phone around January. This is unconfirmed so far by official sources, but I thought it interesting nonetheless.
Cheers,
Robert
Hope it's true, it'll maybe encourage the other North American carriers to do the same.
For T-Mobile, it's probably cheaper than to have to writedown/restock all the returns as otherwise loyal T-Mobile customers are going to AT&T for Tabs, as well as not having to deal with all the failed flashes and the resulting "I don't know, it just stopped working" returns.
That will be lovely.
Seriously? I have 5 days left before I have to return my Tmo tab... I've been putting it off because really don't want to go AT&T...
Robert... I know you can't know for sure... but is your gut feeling that the support tech knew what he/she was talking about? How sure of it did they seem? eg any ambiguity on their part or did it seem like a done deal?
I'm on a few days left too. So tempted to return it for now and get a Nook to tide me over.
Would love phone functionality, but TMobile is doing my head in atm.
Rang them up earlier tonight to get my PAYG card sorted out (as can't update it online). With them wanting my social security number (don't have one) to my PIN number (never got one on a PAYG card), back to demanding my Social security number again (still don't have one), to them hanging up on me as I ask about phone functionality.
I'm at my wits end with Tmobile.
Guess it's going to end up being AT&T and flashed ROM I guess.

I was talking to T-Mo Tech Support last week about the built-in Qik application and asked him why we didn't have the phone capability. He told me that it would probably be added soon, but I didn't really believe him at the time, figuring he didn't really know what he was talking about. Now I'm beginning to wonder if I judged him too harshly. It will be interesting to see if they charge extra for it, or if it will be included in our current plan.
It wouldn't surprise me if they did. T-Moble usually takes much more of a global view towards their products than all the other US carriers do. I guess it makes sense since they're a European provider & based there.
I just ported my cell number last night from AT&T to Simple Mobile. I've had time to use both devices and running the AT&T Tab at over twice the cost per month just isn't worth it. I can buy a new Tab every year with the money I save!
If the rumor is true, then I'd expect to see a test rom leak out sometime soon.

The support rep was incredibly knowledgable and is infact an xda member. He seemed fairly certain this change was going to be rolled out.
Heres my question. If they do roll out this update, are they going to unblock whatever it is they are blocking and allow us to use our sim from another phone, or are we going to have to update the data plan they sold us to another plan that has voice?

Even though thats more of a rhetorical question, I'd guess that yes, they'd eliminate the block.
Just because the Tab has a larger screen than the Vibrant doesn't meant its any more of a data hog.

I would imagine that you would have to upgrade the plan.
I had an issue a little while ago and had to call into customer service. While i was on the phone, I asked the lady that was helping me about the possible update, and she told me there would be no updates pushed out from tmobile for the galaxy tab, they would all come straight from samsung. She told me i needed to check samsungs website for updates. Fixing to call back. I always get a different answer every single time i call them. Im not saying what the rep told you isnt true, im just adding what they told me.
Sent from Jt's Samsung Galaxy Tab!!
She's probably talking about Kies updates. But that is still a carrier-specific update, tied to the model number of the device.
In other words, Samsung is just the distributor, T-Mobile will still be the final arbiter on the updates.
SO get this, you guys know i work for t-mobile. A higher up told us the current tmo tab is going to be end of life soon.. RIGHT AFTER IT LAUNCHED..Because ...get this...."4G" Tab is coming out very soon. Funny thing is, the current Tab IS 4G in terms of T-Mobile's marketing strategy, ie: Its already HSxPA capable, which is faster than other carriers 4G, hence the way they get away with marketing their Internet speeds as 4G, even though its not a new technology like Sprints.

But , correct me if im wrong, past HSPA enabled devices where maxed at 7.2 mbps, now the new HSPA+ devices ie. G2, Mytouch 4G are said to reach speeds of 42 mbps. I had a network tech in the store the other day and he was telling me how we are all ready done a full 4G conversion but they are playing the waiting game with Att/Verizon. Just like Comcast and Verizon. one advertises one speed then the 1 up each other every other month or so.
I'm actually waiting on either a ROM hack or an official phone inclusion before I buy the Tab. I simply can't see forking over this much dough on something that I can't use 24/7 like my HD2.
Thanks, OP, for the thread. I was about to start my own

Which is the best tab to get?

Hey guys, wondering which version of the tab is the best to get, eg: the one that has least trouble flashing and will work in most places.
Reason i ask is that a friend of mine is looking at getting one after playing with mine but he has just gone to the US for a couple weeks. Should he get a tab up there, or one when he comes back to Australia?
it would be a P1000T if he was to get one down here (same as mine)
Thanks
I would have gotten AT&T (my cell carrier), but I wanted to pay it off over several months, so I bought the Sprint version with my Best Buy CC. I do love that glossy white back surface.
Oh, and I'm using mine as Wi-Fi only, so I don't worry about paying a month carrier fee. Can always tether my phone if I need something and I'm not near a AP.
Sprint is getting much less dev love, but it is much newer.
Sprint better video? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10370530&postcount=11
More storage in non PCS ones.
I would rate the Sprint tab as dead last, *if* want you want to do is uncripple it and re-ROM it.
Sprint crippled the ability to pair and connect bluetooth keyboards and mice to it. Also, each day I check in vain for Clockwork Recovery love for the Sprint version, and no ROMs around as yet. :-(
Wait till he gets back to Australia as the voice app have been disabled on us models and would need some hacking whereas the aus one wouldn't as far as im aware!

It seems this one could be either the SPH-D600 or SPH-D720, both of which have recently received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance, though the SPH-D720 is more likely; the D600 shows WPS support, which is available in TouchWiz-skinned devices but not in stock Gingerbread.

Not really, had to read it again, but they are assuming the Nexus S model number is most likely SPH-D720, since the D600 has WPS support which is only available for Touchwiz devices (WPS is not available for stock Gingerbread devices). That's what I got from reading that sentence.
So it has to be stock Gingerbread. Nexus named phones has been branded to be stock devices. So if they did put customized Android versions on a Nexus named device, then they will probably get a bad backlash from the community for it.

Don't get too upset. A) it'll be on Sprint/NASCAR, and B) will require two radios to use the WiMAX. So if you thought your battery life was poor on your NS now, just you wait!

1) Nexus line doesn't get carrier bloatware. And sprint football is actually a great app.
2) I used a sprint wimax phone for 6 months. I don't care that its on sprint I care that Google is allowing our device to be superseded months after its release. We all know our phone should have had 4g to start with and u bought it as the premiere Google device under the impression that I wouldn't be ****ed by Samsung releasing a new version a few months later. Its ****ing pathetic.

Hopefully they take the time to add a second noise canceling microphone. Because the voice quality of the original nexus s was atrocious compared to the nexus one.
Pretty disappointing.. However, I remember reading a few weeks back when people were mad about the fact the original Samsung Vibrant was 3g and then they were releasing the 4g.. Samsung said that the original Vibrant was fully capable of 4g speeds.. So i'm wondering if its the difference of a radio ? I really dont know much about the technical aspects, im just repeating what I read.. I think it was on BGR.com..
Its funny though, I haven't purchased a samsung phone in years, then this came out and I jumped on it.. If this is the game google is going to play, iPhone 5 is going to be looking VERRRRRY attractive to alot of people, with polished build quality and little to no bugs.. Easy decision if you ask me.

You're exactly right. I played this game with Samsung on my Epic 4G and I bought a Nexus S because I wanted to feel like my phone was top of the line for more than a week and that was true of the Nexus One for a long time. It was stupid to release the Nexus S without HSPA+ support given that it the technology was more than available. I've been an Android guy from the beginning. I never wanted an iPhone but you know what? I'm starting to like the way regular updates and support for later iterations. You know what Apple does for people who purchase a current iteration of a phone close to when they announce a new one? They give them money back. What did Samsung do for Vibrant owners when they released the Galaxy S 4G (C'mon its a Vibrant 4G)? Nothing. They left them to twist in the wind and if Google is allowing that to happen to Nexus users here, I'm pretty done with the platform. I'm not paying money to a company that stopped caring about their current devices 10 minutes before they came off the line.
Its pathetic.

$80 per month on sprint or $50 on T-Mobile. I think I'll stick with T-Mobile. I quit sprint for this phone anyway, haha.
Also, I'd rather have T-Mobile 3g than wimax/cdma. Better battery life all around. And really guys, do you really need to download anything on a phone faster than 5-7 mbp/s?

To me its not about the download speeds or the money. I too came from Sprint to get this phone. Its a matter of moral standards and care for your customer base, which this move shows that Google cares about neither.

You can’t stop, you can’t stop progress. You can't stop, you can’t stop, no, no, no.
(nor do I think we should).. Sorry man, I'm on google's side here. Can't stop trying to raise the bar just because someone that didn't think their phone would see faster ones released after it would be butthurt.
Tmo ns still rocks, regardless.

I can't figure out wth you're trying to say in that first line but I assume its something to the effect of you can't stop progress and I'm not asking that. I'm asking that they not release a phone with certain features and with certain features lacking then release the same phone with the features it lacked a few months later. There is no "progress" progress here. Sprint's first WiMax phone was released in July of last year; 9 months ago. Tmobile's first "4G" phone? November 2010; 5 months ago. Verizon was behind the curve but they are using completely different technology. When the Nexus S was announced there was already one semi-4G phone (T-Mobile G2) and one full 4G phone (T-Mobile MyTouch 4G). Where is the "progress" in releasing the same phone with a feature that already existed. If they released a Nexus 3 with dual core, sure I'd be angry that they announced it a mere 2.5 months after the previous iteration was announced but it would be a different phone. This is the exact same phone with feature that should have been released with the original added in for ****s and giggles. Its not "butthurt", its moral indignation. The same moral indignation I'm sure Vibrant owners felt because that was just as bull**** a move.
And how is this a faster phone? Its literally the exact same phone? Am I "butthurt" it didn't come with a dual core? No. I think its a little silly but I still love my phone, or loved I should say. Am I "butthurt" that the Galaxy S 2 does have a dual core? Or that the G2X is dual core? **** no. I chose this phone because I thought it would be supported for at least 6 or 7 months and this is a pretty ****ing clear indication that Google doesn't give a flying **** about the current user base.
Oh, and WiMax sucks. Its by far the worst implementation of "4G" and the company pushing it out (Clearwire)is in pretty significant financial trouble as is the company paying for the services (Sprint). Verizon and T-Mobile have much better existing coverage for their "4G" and have higher speed potential with existing hardware. There is no progress here, its just shafting a bunch of users for a feature that should have been included to begin with.

Get over it man. It's not a big deal, even in principe. I've bought 3 phones in a year (n1, g2, ns) so I am definitely not one to sit idly while my phone ages and be complacent with it. I just like gadgets. But this is just the way this industry works. I personally don't care if my ns supports hspa or hspa+. You'll never notice the difference in day to day unless you download gigabytes of data a day. Tmo supposedly caps you after 5 anyway. (i usually only use about 300M/mo because I jump on wifi every chance I can.
Also, google isn't dropping 'support' for this phone just because sprint us getting a 4g version. On the contrary the 'platform' is widening. Did the at&t version that passed fcc have hspa+?

Glad to see people are realizing what terrible customer service Google has. They just don't care. They're concerned with getting Android on as many devices as they can so they can rake in the ad revenue. They're just happy releasing stuff in perpetual Beta

I've owned four phones in the last 6 months (MT3G, Epic 4G, Evo 4G, NS all of them bought in the last year the last three in the last 6 months). You'll never see the difference between 3-5MBps and 20+MBps in daily use? Really? Typically, it takes my laptop (on comcast cable) less than a second to load the Engadget website whereas my phone takes 5, sometimes 10 seconds to load the same page on 3G. On WiMax (with a theoretical topspeed of 20MBps but it runs more frequently around 10MBps) it loads around the same time. On T-Mobile's HSPDA? It would be faster than on my computer. Sure, I'm on WiFi a good portion of the time but when I'm not it is often painfully slow trying to do anything.
For example, the other day my wife was getting fed up with Swype while she we were both at work. She wanted to use the keyboard I use (a modified gingerbread keyboard) so I tried to email it to her but the 5.25MB file just sat in my phones outbox for 20 minutes. So I decided to upload it to my dropbox which took an astonishing 7 minutes. I know the area I was in had 4G coverage and I know if I could have been on 4G it would have been almost instant. Its not progress its just bull****. Sell them a phone without a feature they want then release it again with the new feature and get them to buy it again. Its ethically wrong.

You mean they are a corporation trying to make money and not spending millions to give the world a big gift? If you ask me, no android is not prefect, what is? Nothing. It's better than the alternatives for my needs and tastes. If google has an agenda to try to turn a profit with it, they are no different than any of they other companies.
