Hey there,
I purchased the HTC Hero from Sprint around a week ago, and it came with a stock 1.5. Had no issues at all, so today decided to try out the leaked 2.1 RUU. Updated without a hassle, but I've been experiencing some issues. This led to me repairing the bootloader and then trying DamageControl 2.08, and now finally fresh 2.0d. All installations went perfectly, nothing to call home about.
My issues are listed below:
It cannot automatically detect my timezone, and it has no clue as to my location for weather nor other features.
When I enable the GPS to go onto Maps, it locates me as around 1,000 miles off the west coast of Africa, whereas I'm in Pennsylvania, USA.
I can call my phone from another line, but no response on my phone (no calls received, nor missed calls).
When voicemails/messages come in, they flood in (10 new messages, etc, that have all stacked up).
I'm using the Wireless Tethering that comes with Fresh 2.0d, and I used PDANet/EasyTether prior to now (as my sole internet is tethering). I'm wondering if this could have at all affected it. Even with tethering disabled for a good hour, still nothing can reach me.
I've also updated the radio, and still no luck.
Wipe data and dalvik, reflash.

I wipe everything each time.
Now about to wipe it all and install the DarchLegend ROM.
I took my phone back to Sprint. I put the 2.1 leaked RUU on there, and took it to em'. Store manager swapped it for a new one.
I believe it was a hardware issue when it came to it. On 1.5, whilst I was tethering I'd not receive calls nor texts, similar to the all-time issue in 2.1. On the new phone which is running 1.5, it receives both whilst tethering.

you took the phone into sprint with a leaked/hacked 2.1 leak on it and they just gave you a "new" hero no questions asked?
It was nerving, I'll tell you that.
Claimed ignorance, that it was an OTA update. He then said how there'd been issues with the OTA updates as dropping a bar of signal screwed it up. He compared the Hero I had to the Hero in the store display noting it was different. He asked me if I did any software editing, I declined.
Told me to come back in half an hour, and hey presto, had a brand new HTC Hero awaiting me.
Ive updated my voicemail to the new update around 3 wks ago or so. Last night I started getting voicemails that were a couple days old that I didn't even know about. So I sent myself some voicemails and didn't get them. I then uninstalled the new voicemail update and when it uninstaleed I got some more old voicemails pop up. After that I got the popup that said a mandatory update is available. I it ok to reinstall the update and then it says no updates available. I have the notification telling me bout the update but every time I try to update it says no update available. I've tried everything. I just completed a hard reset that sprint tech. Told me to do and nothing. The sprint tech said he never heard if it and wants me to take it to a repair center to see if they can push it. I don't mind doing that but I live 45 mins from a repair center and if for some reason I have to do another wipe I'll be in the same position. Anybody know what to do or heard of this? Everything else updates just fine. Thank you
Having the same problem...I wouldn't bet it is a hardware problem.

Many of us are experiencing the voicemail notification that cannot be clean in the notification bar (phantom voicemail notification).
I have this problem with CM 7 but not CM 6.
In Sense Gingerbread roms:
Stock Rom (rooted deoxed)- phantom voicemail
Fresh Rom 4.1beta1 and 4.0.X. betas- phantom voicemail
MikFroyo - no phantom voicemail
Xrom - no phantom voicemail
Called sprint they reset-ed my voicemail but the issue persist. Before that I "clear voicemail notifications" in settings.
Today I was browsing through the sprint forum and found the following (I posted the link to the post).
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/69548?tstart=7
...and it reads...
"Voicemail Notification
UPDATED
Sprint has identified root cause on this issue and has begun rolling out a short term solution this morning that will bring rapid resolution to customers that are experiencing this issue. This fix is network based and does not require any interaction from the customer.
The first batch of network updates for devices that updated to Gingerbread between June 3rd and June 7th is running now and scheduled to complete in 48 hours. Once this process is complete we will load the next batch of devices that updated to Gingerbread starting with a date range beginning on June 8th.

I was about to post that this was something that was specific to those that got the OTA and us that have been using CM7 since RC1 have seen this. Then I thought that it may be something weird with the way the phone/network is handling 2.3, can any one on a Sense based 2.3 join in?
Mine was first batch and not fixed by the 8th. I called sprint pushed button for tech and an advanced tech rep answered.
I explianed the issue he reset my vm box on their end. Told to clear the notification and reboot. After reboot no issue.
Summary of original issue: vm indicator was indicating a vm. Clearing the indicator, cleared it until reboot or switching towers.

How can this be a network issue when I had this issue with 2.3, but after downgrading to 2.2, I no longer have it?
Seems if it was a network issue it would be there no matter what version?
I didn't take the OTA and I've had the issue. I was running Kushdeck's CM7 variant, and it started happening. I then switched to Synergy, still happening. I've switch back and forth and no matter what I switch to, it still shows. And it's driving me crazy *lol*
For those of you who don't want to wait for Sprint to fix this issue:
This WILL fix the bogus VM indicator issue.
1. Activate a NON-Visual Voicemail capable phone on your line. (basic Sprint phone).
2. Let the temporary phone provision then call your voicemail from the temp phone and go through the Voicemail setup process.
3. Once voicemail is setup, leave yourself a test voicemail from a different phone and wait for it to notify you on your phone.
4. Call your voicemail from the temp phone and delete ALL voicemails then end the Voicemail call.
5. Reactivate your HTC EVO and the problem is gone.
This problem is caused by our "old non-visual voicemail" indications being pushed to our phones for some odd reason.
If you don't have a plain non-visual voicemail Sprint phone, get one for a few bucks off craigslist or try your local corporate Sprint store. Most corporate stores have a few used phones from exchanges, etc that they may be willing to use to help you with this process.
I just hold down Power and press restart. It asks to clear data and stuff, amd a few moments later the VM notification is gone.
Shut down and reboot turns on even quicker if the setting is enabled.
XDA App - EVO - 2.3 unrooted. Help!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....by switching from one phone to another, will it affect anniversary dates for our upgrades?
Not at all. Billing system knows the last time you bought a phone using upgrade /new customer pricing on that line.

I don't think I've had any problems for the last few days, it's been nice
Thank you all for your responses. This problem is due to the crappy Sprint network and an update will be release soon (6-20-11), which will alleviate this issue--hopefully.

*This problem arises when you do a phone swap and the previous phone has new voice messages.*
If you still have your previous phone, go on Sprint.com and reactivate it. Then clear your voicemail on it, and then you can switch back to your Evo.
I've read on another forum and it worked for me, go to Settings> Call > Voicemail Settings > Delete your phone number. This doesn't affect your voicemail and remove the persistent clear voicemail notification icon. Good luck.

This works. I just tried it yesterday and the message is finally gone after years on my HTC Hero and my EVO 4G (running CM7). However, it's not just a "wham bam" solution. At least not for me. First, I could not use the Sprint web site to downlevel my smart phone - I think it was because of the plan (price) changes. So I did a chat on the Sprint site and a very nice tech helped me (Astrid??). We switched phones and she helped me get the old Moto Razr V3 activated (it took some codes on the phone after she changed activations). And then afterwards we switched back to the EVO. The process took about 30 minutes with all the changes and calls to Voicemail. I then restored my Nandroid CM7, which worked but couldn't connect to Sprint. I had this before, so I knew I had to load a Sense ROM and then go to Profile (under updates) and re-activate my Profile under Sense for Sprint to connect. Now I won't go into the war story of switching to the Sense ROM (I used an original Sprint ROM which blew my Recovery (AmonRA) out of the water). But to get Sprint connected, I had to reactivate the Profile on the EVO under Sense, and then get back to my CM7 Nandroid. When finally done...Viola...no more phantom voicemail. So it works...and thanks for the post.
Since i have updated to Mango, i receive no notification whatsoever when entering the Martkeplace if there are any updates for the apps that i have installed, so i have to manually check the version of each app installed+mplace to see if there is a newer one...anyone having a similar issue ?
Never heard of this issue before
No problems here, allways get Update messages.
After updating to Mango, I noticed that the updates were no longer coming through the Marketplace tile. However, this has started working again after the 8107 update.
Thanks for the feedback guys, looks like i'm alone in this one ( i have 8107 already )
I have already reset my phone so i guess i'm out of options
@muggs_ro
I had the same problem. No Marketplace's live tiles notifications. But after few weeks, suddenly everything srart working. So maybe you have to wait. (It was with Vodafeone-DE firmware)

It worked for me after mango and then suddenly stopped working. On vacations I deactivated my data plan and I never got the app upate notifications via WiFi. However, I reactivated my mobile data plan today and I got the notification of 19 updates immediately!
I have a Vodafone DE branded device with 7740 update.

Hmm so there seems to be a bit of hope though, i'll consider re-flashing if there is no improvement in the next weeks..
same here
but u can update the app if you find it in the marketplace... hope this will be fixed, but when i see how lg is working on it's updates i don't think it's gonna happen until there is a major update (tango maybe). they are doing the same thing with the wifi tethering update (i busted my ass trying to get this but i can't). seems like lg doesnt care about it's users very much...
@muggs_ro
i left the 3g internet on for the night and this morning i got a notification about 28 updates. apps updated with no problems. check if it helps...
All of a sudden without doing anything i started to receive update notifications since yestarday...weirdest bug ever
Hello all, my family all just got new phones. Both my mom and dad got the S4. I activated my dad's phone with no problems and everything is running great. It did not get the OTA update so it is still on 4.2.2. My mom's phone on the other hand has some issues. Right after activating and running initial stuff, I got the OTA update message, and decided to update that phone. it downloaded, rebooted, installed, and rebooted again. It seemed everything went fine.
Upon further setting up her phone, I noticed that there would be a notification about Sprint ID downloading a "Default ID" pack, and it trying to install it. But it would fail every time. Any changes to the internet connection (going from 3g to wifi or vice versa) would trigger Sprint ID to start up over again and download and fail to install. This kind of gets annoying after a while. Since my mom's phone is not rooted, I can not freeze or uninstall the Sprint ID apk. Force closing it does not help, because it starts up again when changing internet. I spent a good 30 minutes with the Sprint Chat online with no help. Even factory resetting does not fix the problem. Sprint could not help, and forwarded me to a Samsung chat person online. After 20 minutes with that person, they said that they went through all troubleshooting steps and could not help and asked me to call their hotline (which is open on Monday).
The odd thing is, according to Sprint's website, Sprint ID isn't supported on the S4, and my dad's S4 with 4.2.2 does not have it. could the 4.3 update have accidentally added Sprint ID? Is there any way to remove Sprint ID without root? Or root with 4.3, and somehow flash back to stock 4.2.2 without messing with knox? I can try going to the Sprint store tomorrow and see if they can do anything, but I would rather try alternatives first.
on the phone that's already taken the 4.3 update you cannot go back to stock 4.2.
You can however root. Then install titanium and freeze the 'sprint installer' and sprint id applications.
Just wait 'till tomorrow do not take any risks because it's your mother's phone and she wont need root. Service will flash a rom to it hope it will fix it. Have a good day

So I went to the Sprint store today, to see if I can get my mom's phone fixed. According to the technician, there is nothing they can do until Sprint pushes an update to fix this problem. The technician tried fixing a previous customers phone with the same problem, and came to this conclusion. He even said switching out the phone wont help because eventually the 4.3 update will push to that one and might glitch like this phone. I guess I will hold back on updating my dad's phone when he gets his OTA.
I have temporarily fixed the notification by turning off notifications for Sprint ID, so it wont keep on popping up, but I do not know if it will try to download in the background or not.
I heard Sprint was going to push an update to fix the Knox notification showing up when switching to wifi on the S4 and Note 3, and hope they might attach a fix to this in the update.

I just received a replacement phone that is having the same issue, and it's on 4.2.2 - has not received ota update notice. In addition, the CF Root Procedure which seems to work for most everyone is not rooting my phone.
