This will be pretty difficult. I presume you mean you installed it (despite the huge numbers of warnings here and on other sites).
I think you'll need to see if fastboot still works (it most definitely won't ) and see if flashrec works (which it likely won't). Failing that, we may need some rooters to find a flaw to crack it.
If fastboot works, we can use superboot to sort it out
flashrec does not work and fastboot does not work, finally it works, but you can not install a recovery from fastboot
does goldcard still work to downgrade the firmware?
the Goldcard does not work either because it is 2.1
what does "it finally works"? Did u mean flashrec can be run in htc hero 2.1?

Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
I wanted to say that its not working (fastboot) and does not also flashrec
So, by that means who want to have Custom ROM Later they shouldn't Flash Official android 2.1 Update ? Because they will loose root & can not get it back ? Right ? can't flash recovery, means can't install Custom ROM
Did you try AmonRa - recovery ?
flashrec can be install or not ? if it can then try to flash using AmonRa .. if it works then can get recovery option i think .
flashrec can install but can not install a recovery it does not work
All Right Thanks bro .. now i don't want to install official 2.1
Maybe stupid question, but is it not possible to have 1.5 back using an old RUU
its not working

rooting telus htc hero

I have a Telus HTC Hero Unlocked (I use the Rogers network). I want to know how to root it. I have tried the recovery flasher program but whenever i go to back it up it say it failed to backup. This makes it so i can't flash the recovery image. I also tried the androot way from the unlockr.com. It said it rooted my phone but when i go into recovery mode i dont get the options im supposed to. I just get the normal recovery. What should i do?
Phone Specs:
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband Version: 63.18.55.06DAU_6.35.08.20
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-0078c992
Build Number: 2.73.661.46

I just rooted my friends Hero last night using Androot. I followed @dkelley's post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7754273&postcount=443 (I should add that using Androot is waaaaay easier than the goldcard method I used! ) Oh, and using the recovery flasher program requires the goldcard method.
To paraphrase:
1. 1click root (Androot)
2. Install Superuser app from market
3. Install ROM Manager app from market.
4. Use ROM Manager to flash it's own recovery image (it's called Clockwork recovery I think)
5. Optional. If you want to use another recovery image like Amon_Ra, just select flash alternate recovery image (after installing Clockwork recovery image first, otherwise it won't work) and ROM Manager will flash Amon-Ra's recovery image.
Now when you boot to recovery you'll see the new recovery.
From here do a Nandroid backup before doing any ROM flashing. This way if anything bad happens you can always come back to recovery and Nandroid restore your old ROM.
Hope that helps!
Thank you so much! It worked like a charm!
AndRoot is the best way. I tried 3 other "Sure fire" ways from The Unlockr group but this one took the cake.
Was simple and easy.

Glad to see it worked.
Which ROM did you try first?
I'm trying to do the same thing, using Super One Click. It's doing everything when I click Root and at the last item, I get a ROOT FAILED message. Could the fact that my phone is unlocked be in cause? If not, what am I doing wrong?
HTC Hero
Carrier Fido
FW 1.5
Build 2.73.661.46 CL# 74632 release-keys
Thanks

Haven't heard of that one. Why don't you try the Androot method I mentioned to the OP? It worked for me on my buddy's phone and for the OP. It'll probably work for you too.

[Q] S-off (by xtc), then what?

hi!
i found a shop in my area (slo) to unlock my phone. but i'm a bit confused. if i get my phone s-off-ed, as i understand this means full system root, which should men i should be somehow able to flash clockwork mod and then custom roms. this should be done by downgrading to 2.1 and hboot 0.8x.
i found a video tutorial on downgrading here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=981765
and my question: shouldn't i be able to flash clockworkmod directly (without downgrading), since i will have my phone fully unlocked? if possible, how?
I think the best is after the s-off, install and older RUU, then use unrevoked 3.14 thats the most easy and i think the safest way
Most efficient way

Hi
I have rooted wildfire with s-off (xtc clip) and Hboot - 1.01.0002 . I tried the above method but fastboot wont detect the zip file and says not found. I am unable to install clockworkmod using rom manager, whenever i do, i get the red traingle of death.
What to do now ?
Please help...
u donot need to downgrade with an RUU. and further doing so may make ur phone S-ON again (im not sure about this).
u have a simple process.
u can flash any "recovery image" via fastboot mode.
and that's all, after doing that u can flash any rooted custom rom from that recovery.
getting to S-OFF is an expensive task yaar (as far as now). try to keep it in S-OFF permanently.

have u done the "PC49IMG.zip" process with the file in the above link. it is the process for flashing clockwork mod "recovery image". once this is successful, then u can install any custom roms from the CWM recovery.
note: donot do the PC49IMG.ZIP process with any outside file (excluding the link above). if u do that, u might loose the S-OFF
Alternatively, u can flash other recoveries also (i dont know any others)
I got it eventually, I downgraded using ruu rom to hboot. 80 rooted it again and now have 2.3.3 over it
Thanks anyways ..

How will you lose s-off by flashing a PC49IMG.zip? XTC Clip wipes the secuflag in radio NVRAM, no way of getting it back via a normal update.

Clockworkmod does not work!!!

I'm really at a stage now where i wanna just throw my htc desire hd at the wall!!!! I am trying to just install a custom firmware, not much to ask considering the mammoth amount of hacking you have to do to even downgrade the firmware. I have done absolutley everything that needs to be done to root this device, i have downgraded the firmware i have rooted it, switched off eng s-off and radio s-off i have full root acess with terminal emulator, i put the update zip on the sd card it says something about installation invalid thats because first time i did not disable radio s-off then it went slightly further but then said some other error i have tried everything, i tried rom manager and selected reboot in recovery mode but now it just makes the phone freeze on the htc boot screen when selecting recovery from the boot menu, can someone please please help, how hard can it be just to install coredroids firmware, why can't it just be as easy as the pd98img firmware
help much apprieciated
clockworkmod recovery works fine. Something has just gone wrong with your installation.
To avoid complications later on, you haven't "switched off ENG S_OFF" you've made made S-ON S-OFF and added ENG S-OFF.
You talk about update.zip, is this for a ROM (CoreDroid?)? Which ROM? Did it tell you to rename it to update.zip? If a ROM then it had nothing to do with Radio S-OFF as you only need that for flashing radio.img files and if it was a radio you were trying to push you should use fastboot not recovery. Are you using the right version of recovery (it's very specific about the version required)?
When everything has been installed correctly and instructions followed it is VERY easy to install coredroid's ROM.
hi thanks for the reply, i just follwed the instructions for installing a custom rom as it asks u to chang it to s-off but the guide also says you need to install the update.zip for clockworkmod to get to choose the custom flash rom you want to use but all i get when i select update.zip from the recovery menu is e:signature verification failed installation aborted
Ok, they don't make it very clear do they?
Have you got ROM Manager installed?
Have you got clockworkmod recovery installed? If so what version is it. If not then use ROM Manager to flash it and flash 2.5.1.3 version (as that what it says).
Get the above. Then let me know.
hi mate its version 4.2.0.2 if i select flash clockworkmod recovery it completly causes the recovery menu in bootloader to just hang on the htc startup screen

Sorry, I meant recovery version but it looks like you still need to do that.
In that case push the recovery.img file (grab from the Coredroid thread) using fastboot.
Normally issues are because people miss things but you've confirmed you have ENG S-OFF, Radio S-OFF and root.
ok i tried running this image file in fastboot from this thread http://android.modaco.com/content/z...led-tft-30-nov-2-5-1-3-clockworkmod-recovery/
its written ok but when i select recovery from bootloader it just hangs on the htc startup screen grrr this is just impossible.
That's not for the desire HD.
Grab a 3.x.x.x version from clockwork 3.0.2.8 thread and try that (you can downgrade easily once we got something working).

Downgrade to HBOOT from 1.02.0000 to 0.52.0000

Hi, everyone who have been waiting for a way to downgrade their HBOOT so that they can get S-OFF, cause they upgraded to the Official RUU Rom... I think I found a solution for you!
Also give you permanent ClockWork Recovery!
I haven't test it on any other Slide, cause I have only one. So, sorry if it didn't work for you.
Here is what I did, in case you're wondering, I downloaded the Official RUU from HTC Support website, extracted the 'rom.zip' file from Windows Temp folder that it creates, replaced the newer 1.02 HBOOT with 0.52 HBOOT, that I got from 'ESPRIMG.zip' (the Stock rom).
And also replaced the recovery.img with ClockWork Recovery img file.
Then I just renamed the 'rom.zip' file to 'ESPRIMG.zip'
Put it in the root of my memory card, powered off, rebooted into BOOTLOADER, and it detected the file and asked me if I wanted to update, I chose YES, and it went on without a hitch. Next thing I knew, I had 0.52.0000 HBOOT, with permanent ClockWork Recovery(so I dont have to use 'update.zip' anymore), and also the Official Latest 2.15.531.3 unmodified rom, (I like stock Espresso, that's why I bought it ) but you will LOSE ROOT but SuperOneClick method works for me to gain root - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Method:
1. Download this 'ESPRIMG.zip' file - http://www.mediafire.com/file/cuemg74en7kk0a3/ESPRIMG.zip
2. copy/paste it to your memory card, in the root, not on any folder.
3. Make sure your card formatted to FAT32 file system, or it won't detect it.
4. Do a Nandroid BACKUP, if you can, cause I don't know if this will work for you. But it will wipe all your data and setting. SO BACKUP!
5. First you need to wipe data and factory setting, and wipe cache and wipe davlik cache (Otherwise it bootlooped for me). So boot into recovery first!
You can do that by going into BOOTLOADER first then selecting Recovery ( for that remove memory card from mobile or else it will start update) or if you have ROM Manager then you can use that to reboot into Recovery, any recovery will do stock or clockwork.
6. Ok, so after Wiping from recovery. PULL battery, then insert back the memory card with ESPRIMG.zip file on it. Reboot into BOOTLOADER, and apply the update.
It should do a reboot automatically to downgrade the HBOOT.
You will see the change if it worked. After applying the update, reboot phone normally.
And if all done correctly, you should have 0.52.0000 HBOOT, and also a permanent ClockWork Recovery. Now you can root by using SuperOneClick method. And also get S-OFF (I didn't need it, cause I have permanent S-OFF! , at least that's how I explain it)
Im guessing it worked for me because I have a factory unlocked S-OFF HBOOT from HTC. Because, to try this out first, I updated my phone via the OFFICIAL RUU from HTC Support Website and it showed S-OFF on my 1.02.0000 HBOOT.
Then I tried this method and it did downgrade my HBOOT and I still had S-OFF without doing the AlphaREV method.
So I guess I have a kind of permanent S-OFF??! :S :?
Hit thanks if it helped.
I am no developer but I am learning
Any feedback would be appreciated.
And yes, my major is CS and I LOVE IT!
any one test this yet?
If i try this and it does not downgrade my HBOOT will my phone be bricked? Will I lose root? I would love to try, but would like a little certainty.....

I don't think that you phone will be bricked, it would just not downgrade it but the HBOOT will remain. Yes you will lose root, but that can be gained easily by SuperOneClick Root Method.
I not certain myself about the brick. Flash at your own risk.

Did it work?
has this worked for anyone?
I'll be trying it once the download finishes for me. I'll update you guys on whether or not it worked for me.
I'm using a full stock phone btw, factory reset and blank sdcard as well. Hopefully this works for me.
UPDATE:
Looks like this was a dud.
I applied the update 3 times to my phone, but my Hboot still didn't downgrade. It's still on 1.02.0000. Also didn't flash the permanent Clockwork Recovery that we were hoping for either.
I'm guessing your permanent s-off is what let you use this successfully. So for anyone who has S-OFF already this would probably work fine.
On the plus side, it didn't brick me =)

Well thanks for the feedback, yes I think its the permanent S-OFF too. So does that mean I have a phone that was permanently UNLOCK my T-mobile or HTC it self for testing purposes? Is there some way to use this to unlock that 1.02.0000 HBOOT?
any updates on how to downgrade?
i need to downgrade my Espresso, i have the latest official t-mobile update.
i have already followed instructions very carefully missing no details.
i have searched everywhere and tried everything. thank you.
