Hey guys,
This is my first post in the i9000 forums. I just got my phone today, coming off a year stint with my HTC Hero.
With the Hero, I am used to only "My Contacts" being synced back to my phone automatically. I prefer it this way as I don't get all the cr*p, like contacts that I've replied to via Gmail two years ago.
However, on the i9000, I get ALL my contacts. Is there some way to get the phone to only pull My Contacts and forget the rest?
Thanks for any advice. So far, I am simply blown away by the speed of this thing!

Hey,
Im somewhat new to this WM6 stuff. I previously had a Sony Ericsson and when I had switched to my new Wing, I had saved all my Contacts to my SIM card and when I went to load my contacts from my SIM onto my PPC, they all look like "Norman/M; Norman/H; Norman/W" or instead of "Norman Kiwan" it would show "Kiwan;Norman" for all my contacts. It gets really annoying and I was hoping maybe some of you found a program I can use to easily edit/change my contacts on my phone... it would be extremely appreciated! thank you.
- Norman
That's quite simple. Space character is not allowed in name string on SIM That's probably why you have a semicolon between the first and the last name. /M or /H are shortcuts for (M)obile or (H)ome phone number. Remember on SIM one number is always one independent record. Just save numbers to Contacts in your phone, then synchronize with Outlook. Amend contacts there and synchronize back.
ok so pretty much use outlook to change the contact's name... just gotta figure out how to do that with outlook.. ill give it a shot.
Now in terms of using MSN messenger, for some reason even if I put in the settings NOT to sync contacts it still does! and its just a huge mess seeing all these phone contacts and email contact everywhere... is there a way to get rid of those too?
thanks for the help!

** bump **
Not syncing contacts means only not syncing contacts when you sync manually. but when you start messenger it syncs contact's automatically.
Contact manager..amzing and easy install
lol
I hate the way contacts are sorted on wm6 too!
Check this one out is pretty good one, actually i love it!

Haven't had problems with contacts ever since my first WM phone ( got used to it quick) but the only problem I ever had was that you couldn't delete multiple contacts at once. Tried to do this for the first time in over a few years and seems like the SIM Manager has had quite an overhaul since I've last tried to use that feature. If it were a Microsoft program I think we would still be having this program.
Thats enough ranting for now
Peace
Now I need to know how I get all my info from my iPhone to the Galaxy S!!
Can I sync with Outlook for Contacts and Calendars?
Or does it have to be Google?
Just done a search for google contacts but cant find any details!!
If I have to use Google Calendar will it show up all the extra calendars I use ie I have seperate calendars for the football teams I follow?
Can I sync with iTunes?Or do I need to use Windows Media Player?(Or can even use WMP?)
Oh and I assume I will be able to download my emails from my ISP account..not just Googlemail?
I'm pretty sure the phone can sync with outlook through the kies software.
It can sync with WMP.
You can download from other ISP's not just gmail.
Apple products make me itch.
Well I wont lie. I have enjoyed my iphones (the 3GS is my 3rd), just felt it was time to try something new. I hope Im not making a costly mistake. It wouldnt be the first time

Are you going to keep your omnia?
Phone turned up today. The biggest concern beforehand was the build quality. All the reviews mention it.Seeing a dummy handset in Carphone Warehouse didnt fill me with confidence.Must say though when I took it out of the box I was very pleasantly surprised ,feels really nice in the hand.
I must get round to reading the manual.Must of spent over twenty minutes trying to figure out how to edit contacts details. Then I thought "Oh yeah, lets try that button"
Not used to all these button on my phone
Couple of questions if I may:
Playlists? I imported my playlists from iTunes into WMP, they all appear fine in their right place.I sync the playlists, all music transfers, but NOT in the playlists??How do I do that?
Oops Double post
Does nobody know if Playlists can be synced to the Galaxy S?
Try:
Search google for "galaxy s synchronise itunes" and the top link to knowyourcell seems to have a good step-by-step example of iTunes sync for Windows and mentions a Mac product that will also get it working.
edit: wrong thread.
So I'm not loving the new contacts with "mySense". First it found old contacts on my SIM card and brought them in. Ok, that could be helpful but I just deleted them instead. Then it took all of those contacts and all of my google contacts and copied them both into T-mobile contacts. On top of that any new contacts I make are by default T-mobile contacts. GAH! I hate sense sometimes.
I'm coming from the G1 and one of my favorite features was that my google contacts and my phone contacts were one and the same and I could edit them in either place. Now I've got four sources for contacts, SIM, phone, T-mobile, and Google. Way to go T-mobile you just made something simple more complicated.
Does any one know if there's a way to turn off the other crap in sense and go back to just using Google only for contacts? I'm sure there will be sesnse-less roms soon enough if nothing else.
Can someone let me know what/where t-mobile's contact sync .apk can be found in a rom (like ice), or maybe post it if it is handy? Loaded up evil's z rom the other day, went into contacts and unchecked sim card contacts from view and only 4 contacts showed up, one of them being myself. Haven't ever gotten around to loading contacts into google yet, this is an obvious reason to do so...would just like to get my contacts back on my phone. Tried to search in the market for it, but the only one I found apparently only works for 1 type of phone. Thanks in advance

I am not sure that will even work as it may rely on Sense and most rom don't have Sense framework only those that has Sense supported so if you even pull the .apk it may not work. But I see you don't trust google I use to be like that and at this point honestly I don't care if they want you they will find you so make your life easy and import it to Google. Now I know TMobile does not have export if you logon line and access it so what you need to do is have rom like stock rom or IG which has it and export it to CSV file and then import it to Google contact under Android.
Yeah, been meaning to clean up my contacts and import it all just hate getting caught with my pants down...so are you talking about the my sense framework or just sense in general? Do you think this is worth posting under evils rom since he ported it and would know the ins and outs and to see what he thinks or do I just need to bite the bullet? Thanks again...
why didnt you just do a contact sync with your gmail? thats what i always do. and it loads on every rom i link my gmail to super quick.

I did have it set up but believe that it only pulls contacts to your phone and doesn't push new ones back-correct me of I am wrong-just wouldn't be syncing my contacts to 2 different places if they both did the same thing...and haven't fully set up contacts in google yet other than emails...it is definitely the way to go...
So after a lot of searching on-line, bt syncing with my old phone, etc., etc.,...finally came upon this
http://yincrash.livejournal.com/188605.html
and it worked as far as Name, Home Mobile Phone, Home Phone, Home Email, Work Mobile Phone, Work Phone...just saved as a csv file and imported to my gmail...am now official thanks for the help

What calendar were you sync'ing to? Maybe go and check the settings on that? If everything is there, try uninstalling and reinstall calendar & see if it picks them up again.
Also before that, maybe check to see which way the sync is set up - you don't want to go sync'ing all the blankness up to the other calendar.
