I've flashed a few kernels including KK and JAC's OC/UV. Never had this problem. I ODIN'd back to stock and restored a previous backup and I still can't send outgoing email through Gmail. It will either say "message sent" and then disappear or get stuck in "Sending Message...", I have a couple like that. Anybody ever run intot this and is there a way to get back to normal?
BTW, I can receive emails just fine.
Thanks

Reboot. And try again.
Thanks. I have tried all of the simple stuff. Like I said, I totally reset it.
I have this issue also, but I stopped using gmail, and just use the email app for my server email
Cleared gmail data and cache. Working now.

as the title says, i can receive but i can't send, and the receiving is intermittent. when i delete an email, it doesn't show deleted on the gmail app (where it shows the unread count in the header of the app, not talking about the notification bar here)...
if i delete an app or read it on my phone, it still shows unread and in the inbox of my gmail online. it's been happening since yesterday. i've done a factory reset, i've loaded recovery, at first i thought it was due to an app update (happened right before the issue started), but even after a recovery without that app updated, and deleting all apps showing update available, still happening.
i wonder if this is related with the VZW 3G issues others have been having?
Did you recently update anything? I had a similar issue but after a day or two gmail finally syncd back up. It happened when I flashed to the leaked ota and again when I went to 2.2 otherwise I suggest updating the gmail apk.

Just rooted, no roms or kernels yet. Only update coulda been an app of some kind. But Idk if that's it based on it kept happening even after rolling back to a backup I made a few days before these updates. Maybe a gmail provisioning issue? All other data seems to work, although sometimes slower than normal.

Clear Data
Hi,
This happens to me all the time when I am jumping between roms and using nandroid alot. Try going into Manage Applications, find the Gmail app and then delete the Data and Clear Cache. Ignore the warning about losing stuff since everything is synced. Then go back and open gmail and give it a few minutes to sync back up and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps.

Absolutely fixed it. Thanks so much!

Accounts are set up right. Sync is on. The phone will pick up new emails on a restart, but after that, it won't give any new email notifications. Also, if I open gmail and hit refresh, it won't show new emails that I KNOW are sitting in my inbox. Only time it gets new emails is right after a reboot. Not a clue what the problem could be. Any ideas?
I am having the same issue, especially when it comes to archiving emails using the Gmail app. I hit archive, come back to my computer an hour later, and everything is still sitting in Inbox as unread.
Yea, I am still having this issue. No emails will sync. I am fearful that I am just going to have to wait for 2.2 and a custom ROM to get a clean install and a properly working device.
I was at my local verizon store yesterday with a text issue. They said it was a known issue and being fixed on the next update. They said the text and a email sync issue both were to be fixed. They did not know what update though. IE: 2.2 or the smaller updates. Hope this helps.

I have had the exact issues usually after restoring a nandroid. I have posted this in another thread. Works for me every time.
Turn sync off.
menu/settings/Applications/Manage applications/gmail storage/force stop then hit clear data.
And do the same for gmail/force stop and clear data.
reboot. And turn sync back on.
good day.
I was having this issue and I did a *228 and reprogramed my roaming and it has been great since.

This appears to have solved my issues! Thanks!!!
I use the gmail app, but it seems to be very slow sending email. Also, the stock email app truncates ALL my email with no way to get the end half. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm rooted, using jt1134 super clean, stock kernel.

Hi there.
I have an X10a from Rogers, 2.1(official upgrade), rooted and ever since running the 2.1 update my email notification has been inconsistant at best. With the stock email program it worked sporadically. Sometimes it doesn't even sync... I open the app, load new messages and they appear. Sometimes it makes a sound and puts the indicator in the status bar but no flashing led and sometimes everything works.
I tried K9 and that seemed to work but no led, so I loaded Maildroid and everything was fine for a while but now even that is sporadic.
I currently have my stock email notifications disabled, gmail sync enabled, maildroid sync enabled, wake up ever 15 mins in sleep to check email and still it only works sometimes.
I would prefer just using the stock email client as it seemed nicer on battery useage. Is there a way to uninstall it and reinstall it easily? I almost tried it with Titanium backup but the warning that i might need to reflash scared me off doing it.
Any thoughts?
Same thing i noticed with mine , Email is really bad after the update , can know for sure when i get a new Email
using the gmail app and no problems at all
i have 3 other email accounts all forwarded to my gmail
This is two forums and no one has been able to suggest anything to fix it. I think i'll just go back to the stock email client and live with it... checking manually whenever I remember.
This would be my one major complaint about the 2.1 upgrade...aside from it I'm pleased with the rest.
I use shangmail.it works great.

I can try it. Does it light up the LED with the notification?
Re: my issue, i've noticed that it definitely seems that it's the syncing that's not happening moreso than the notification. I can send an email and until I open my client and load more messages, it won't appear where in the past it would pull down the email, notify me and then when I checked it was already there.
Okay...so I reflashed 2.1 on the phone last night. Immediately after the flash everthing was working fine. Then I rooted, installed Titanium backup and started to restore my apps and data... one at a time instead of the batch. At some point it stopped working again even though I didn't install 100% of the things I had on before.
Then briefly I uninstalled Super Security Standard and it started working again...but that didn't last.
I suppose it must be something i've installed, but it's really frustrating that the behavior isn't consistant. Aside from reflashing and then testing after restoring each app, I don't know what I can do.
It's definitely a syncing issue, not a notification issue. Installed a couple of free gmail notifiers and they don't work because the emails aren't sync'd until i go into the email client and manually load new mail.
What could be blocking the gmail sync?
Okay..some more searching has revealed a workaround. I cleared the cache for Gmail app and Gmail storage, rebooted and added the power control widget and cycled the sync button.
Now I can get email notifications when I cycle the sync...but only then. In the thread I found doing this once seemed to 'unstick' the sync, but that's not happening with me.
What sorts of things can 'hang' the sync? I'm still guessing some apps i've installed...
I can receive emails just fine, but no matter what, I can't send an email! It just sits there at sending. Rebooted several times, etc.

Uhhh... silly question: Did you try remove account and then add it in again?
This used to happen occasionally on my Galaxy S i9000.
Try going into Settings, application, manage applications, ALL, scroll down to gmail and tap it to open it.
You can try clearing cache first. This usually doesn't work for me, so you have to clear data. This will erase everything in the Gmail app, but once you log back in it will all sync back from the server.
Let me know if that fixes it for you.
Recently my email has stopped sending outgoing mail, incoming is fine. I first thought it was a ROM issue but this is now a problem on all ROMs I use. Any ideas of what might be causing this issue?
Are you using the seal App locker app? After installing this app I couldn't send emails. I could receive them though. After I uninstalling it things went back to normal.

Whenever I restore a prior backup or load apps from TB I need to go to Applications and clear Gmail data and let it re sync. Otherwise my sent emails sit in my outbox. I receive emails just fine
