Puzzle piece for Gmail? - Vibrant General

Is there anyway to get the slide to unlock for gmail?

Yes or no.

I think a deb could fiddle with code to allow it but as far as samsung implementing it...i don't see it in the near future

I don't know if anyone has heard but Sprint is about to release another Android phone and it supposed to be pretty sweet!
I think it's called like the SubSonic, or maybe it's the SuperChronic... I'm not sure.

There actually was a memo leaked from Palm yesterday that they are dropping WebOS and switching to Android. (http://slashdot.org/submission/1198960/Rumor-Palm-ditching-webOS-for-Android?art_pos=19) Should have a more official announcement soon.
Amazing... My dad had a pre and hated it, we've been debating lately how long palm and blackberry will be in business if they don't make some drastic changes.

If your question was serious, 127.0.0.1 is 'localhost' on all machines. It's the address the computer uses to reference itself.
Honestly, I think Palm would be earth-shatteringly stupid NOT to switch to Android, as long as they bring along their WebOS interface to put on top of it.
The main thing that kept me from going with a Pre is Palm's history of allowing their software to stagnate. Back in the day I had one of the original PalmPilots. I also had a Treo 650. There's what? 10, 12 years seperating those two devices? Yet it's astounding just how much they managed to NOT improve PalmOS over those years. They added color and mediocre internet connectivity, but beyond that it's hard to think of any significant improvements in the OS from a user perspective.
That alone makes it hard for me to consider a Palm device, even if the Pre is quite nice on its own merits. I want a platform that I can stick with for awhile so I don't have to repeat the experience of moving away from the Treo and seeing $150 worth of apps flushed down the toilet. Luckily I never spent much on iPhone apps. Android gives me a sense of comfort that I can pay good money for an app and be able to use to for a good long time, through device upgrades, and even carrier changes.

I think their memo would say "Getting Administrator" access. If its Windows lol!
Another memo would be "invoking bsod to gain Administrator access" ;D
Sorry guys, Palm is NOT switching: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/palm-moving-to-android-to-stay-alive-not-according-to-palm/
webOS is a fantastic user experience as long as it's on good hardware. The Pre, however, really struggles to be called decent, never mind good, hardware.
I hear the Pre Plus performs a lot better, though. *shrug*
Enough of the aside, though.

I think RIM Would have to fall of the face of the earth to fail. Toooooo many corps have waaaaaaaaaaaay to much money tied up in BIS to loose it or switch to something that is actually worth a crap - BIS is really Ok for Business I guess. RIM was big on innovation and now they have found complacency. It's sad, they have potential they are just wasting it.

Either way, who cares? Who would honestly want to run that bloated piece of junk on a real phone? All other things aside, this should probably be in general.
I agree it should be. I apologize. Mods please move.
I'm willing to bet that it's an Iphone put into an HTC case...perhaps hooked up to the OEM HTC screen. Still a very clever hack if that's the case. But still not as impressive as porting the entire OS with everything working.
I'd certainly flash it and keep a nandroid of it to show off to my geek friends, but, I'd never use it.
Once again, it's incredibly doubtful that it is exactly what it seems to be, though I know it's far from impossible....just improbable.

CM 6.1 probably no vibrant :(

Sorry to say but, at this point (unless someone pulls a miracle), it looks like the vibrant wont make the CM 6.1 release
(basing my info on 2 tweets)

@TheDudesAndroid @noobnl_epic @cyanogen @koush what do you think? http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,2152
@noobnl_epic
@wesgarner @TheDudesAndroid @cyanogen @koush should be removed
the link in wes's tweet says
Change I36172fd3: vibrant: Temporarily remove from CM manifest
vibrant: Temporarily remove from CM manifest
Reasons:
1. It doesn't compile - this can be fixed, though
2. It doesn't work... - currently the kernel inside the repo doesn't work plus the build system is not set up to flash the kernel
3. The Vibrant repo is about 2mths old
4. The Vibrant repo contains proprietary. On my fork, I have changed everything over to use extract-files, removed proprietary from all commits using filter-branch
We can refork my repo for the Vibrant, but at the same time - it still isn't ready, so mostly having it on the CM repos for 6.1 RC's this weekend is pretty pointless considering where we are in getting CM6 for the Vibrant
My manifest (git://github.com/wesgarner/android.git) is setup for the current Galaxy S repos (aka my Vibrant repo and noobnl's Epic repo), but this is still such a WIP that keeping it on CM repos really just confuses people about the current status and makes it seem like it's ready when it isn't

i'm fine with that. bionix is honestly better than cm was on my g1, and those cm guys are a bunch of assholes. if (mostly) one guy can build a rom from scratch, i don't understand how a whole team can't figure it out.
You cant expect one guy to make a rom for all android devices. If it doesnt work. O well. I mean there are other roms out there for those wanting to mess with there phones. Bionix is one. the donations were made to wes/scepterr... that has nothing to do with CM. true they are members of the CM team, but all they ever said was that they had plans to port CM6... that doesn't mean they have to, and anyone who decided to donate should have realized that a PLAN does not equal a promise.
if it fails, well crap. if they come back to it later and it works, hooray! until then, your donations belong to whoever you donated to. because that's how donations work.

Wow.... Are you serious? d
First you're comparing your Vibrant to a G1, of course it will be better! Even with a stock Vibrant.
Second, the CM guys or any dev for this matter, who gives their free time to make ROMs and MODs for peasants like you and I who cant do it ourselves, are assholes?! How?!
Third, yes it only takes one talented dev to build a ROM from scratch, but without the SOURCE they have no base to work on. It really isnt easy to make a ROM from scratch, and as far as I know only a few devs have successfully done so. Most of them base it on another dev's work or samsung itself...

Haha.... You think that the bionix ROM came from scratch??? He took eugenes base from the Ftwiz ROM. He even says it in the credits. Not trying to sell the ROM or development short, because it is a great ROM.
All the devs that are tied to the vibrant are trying to reverse engineer the code to get the 2.2 source which samsung has not released. Building 2.2 with out the source code is like building a sky scrapper from the top to the bottom, everything will crash. Where as 2.1 with source is building from ground up, you start from a solid foundation, then work your way up...
Wes also stated to anyone who wanted there money back, they can email him for a refund.

Very true!
after reading their various tweets regarding them passing the buck on vibrant development, yes, they're assholes. it was clearly a joke to them because they know it's a huge hassle, so they should have just said it was probably never going to happen. i'm very grateful for the handful of devs that have actually stepped up and made this phone into what it should have been out of the box. it was clear that the cm team never cared in the first place.

All these new phones talk

As you all know the Nexus for Sprint is out and soon to be (my favorite) the Evo 3D. But with this new 10$ add on bill for any smartphone you get (even if you have the data unlimited plan) seems to let me down a lot on deciding if i should upgrade soon. I mean if you think about it every time you get a new smart phone 10$ is added to your bill. so theoretically your bill can be limitless. Ya i know 10$ is not much but hell, im only 20 and in school for a surg tech degree, i cant afford that monthly extra.
I really have no point in this paragraph haha. I guess just be blessed for those that are getting those awesome new tech. and il Duce, youre the only one i know so far that is moving on to the 3D, so please dont forget us HeroC homeless that cant afford it .
Hopefully Sprint will get rid of this mental add on. But in the mean time thinks for reading my rant
I'll most likely pick it up. Despite the cryptographiclly signed bootloader, kernel, and recovery, it will still kick ass. I looked through my apps and realized that there are only a few apps I have that require root access. I'll miss my wireless tether, but Mrs. User has a rooted hero, so I guess I could use hers.

From what I know about signed bootloaders and stuff, you can still root the phone - you just won't be able to put any custom firmware/roms/kernels/flash radios, etc.
That's why I'm straying away from the 3D as of now.. I compile my own roms and would go crazy if I had to stick with the stock ROM and not be able to load my roms, or at the very least load CM
But at least HTC said they'd "Review their bootloader policy" We'll see if they actually do anything about it though.

I don't think the carriers really have much of a word in things like that (well, except for AT&T with the whole not being able to (easily?) side-load apps), though it's interesting to see other manufacturers becoming more open with their devices, and HTC going the other direction. Hell, even Motorola said they won't release such locked down phones now.
Here's to hoping we get a variant of the G2x.... with qHD.
I didnt know it was coming with a signed BL!! where do you devs get this crazy info at. This might change my plans.

+1 for our amazing devs...let the shameless butt-kissing ensue. Seriously, they've allowed my little Heroc to live on far beyond it's natural life-span.
FWIW about the new phones though, I was tempted, but I'm holding off till the X-mas lineup comes out. As the commercial goes "...then we must teach you to wait." The Evo 3D looks like a solid contender, but I'm shying away from the Nexus S...1) no microsd card support, and 2) it's a samsung (I'm the "proud" owner of two Moments...uuuuugghh).
With rumors about the Nexus 3 being made by HTC and avail on Sprint, if it happens, that's what I'll jump for. Here's hoping!
