Not necessarily broken, i just broke the screen. But Instead of filing a TEP claim i'd rather get an evo and i'd like to know how i could do this. my upgrade isn't for a while and id like to know the cheapest way to get one

Buy a used one on ebay.
It's honestly too expensive right now for me to buy one fr $400 off ebay i'd rather just buy a new one for $450. I'm looking for an inexpensive way to get one IF any.

Not unless you go to the black market there isn't Not that I know of anyway, assuming you want one that isn't broken or damaged.
I guess i'll have to live with a phone with a broken screen.

Wow... That's some pretty nasty breakage. How'd you do that?
And I always thought that the Hero was pretty durable for a touchscreen phone...
Don't skateboard and talk on your phone :/

I am looking for a Nexus One. I am going to root it and install Cyanogen or Sense. I look at all the ads and most of these phones are going for $50-$75 under what I can get a new phone for. At this point, I say screw it and just buy the new phone. As I am waiting around for that ultimate deal, I am wondering at what price do you guys consider jumping for the used unit without warranty.
I understand that if I root, I lose my warranty, but that is why I am looking for a used one. I guess if I bought new, I would not root for a while and get a good felling that the unit I have will not have any warranty issues.
Thanks for the replies.
i seriously doubt if youll find one under $475. i know i wouldnt sell mine lower than that. i say just get a new one.
Sent from my HTC Dream G1 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I just got one on ebay for 440 shipped from a guy in B.C. You just have to look around. I should be receiving it any day now.
I am about an hour away from getting mine for 450 off of criagslist. Soon after I verify all is good I'll take it root it, love it.
you just have to be patient and download the ebay and criaglist apps and troll there will always be deals out there. I saw a lady that had one for 400 but before we could meet some one offered her 475 for it and she dumped me.
Buy new. You will not loose the hardware warranty. You only loose the software warranty.

I bought mine off craigslist, called HTC and they swapped the warranty over to me no questions asked.
less than 500 prolly.. I mean it's a new phone and people aren't selling it much at all.
Just get one =)

Somehow, I don't think you're factoring in tax.
I picked up my Nexus One for $325.00 off Craigslist. I couldn't pass up on the deal.

how did you swap warranty? did you need to give HTC any info from the original owner?

it should be as easy as looking up or registering the s/n or IEMI number.
I thought about used but with the AT&T version being even newer it became an even riskier venture. Outside of the rare Craigslist super bargin, $450 isn't a shocker to find. Just expect any you find to be the original T-mobile variety if it matters.

I was getting out of my car and dropped my phone on the floor and the screen cracked . I sent it to HTC and they said it would cost 288 to fix the phone.
I did alot of research on vibrant and some on the g2 i can renew my contract in October....witch phone would u guys pick and why?
Thats unfortunate. A gel case would have likely saved it.
Try looking online for just the screen if you have the know-how to replace it yourself.
well I have a n1 and a vibrant and I love my vibrant well better than my n1.
The g2 will be sweet and obviously come out the box with 2.2. Its a toss up id wait till its released though and check the bugs. I personally dont know if I can go from a samoled to TFT,,
Well one thing you might want to look into is call TMO and tell them you just bought a Nexus one and you want to put insurance on it. Wait a couple of weeks and then put a claim into. I purchased my Nexus One over criagslist and switched it to my insurance from my G1 with no questions. I haven't put in a claim for it ever but no questions asked applying it to insurance. So if it were to be crushed its covered.
Vibrant has great hardware but the updates and fixes keep getting pushed back, pretty sure the 2.2 update will be the last for the phone. I'd get the Desire Z or wait for the Desire HD that has better rom development.

That's called insurance fraud, brotha.
shoulda had a case..... sad story!!
Yeah. Samsung has been good about NOT updating their phones...just because. Since you asked about the Vibrant and G2...go for the G2. Vanilla Android...most likely to get the most support...from the community here as well.

i agree. but the fact that the gps doesnt work pisses me off so much.
so i ended up returning my vibrant and am sticking with my n1 until they push a fix.
but ur so correct. going from samoled to even amoled feels so weird. the screen and the glass have such a large gap. the brightness is lower. the colors arent as great.
but its still better than tft/slcd

desire HD is coming to T-Mobile?
lol at the guy doing insurance fraud. Im thinking about g2 since i need flash for my cam and it reminds me o nexus in every way.
I'm assuming it landed on the screen? In which case a case would have not helped. Ha, I used case twice.
A simple question:
Does Vibrant equip flashlite?
If so, I may opt for it over G2 (Vibrant can be tethered out of the box). However, the forthcoming moto and LG Android phones will have mobile hotspot and softUMA out of the box.

I believe you have to apply for insurance within the first few weeks of activating your phone. At least that's what a tmo rep told me...

Ive had the insurance on my g1 and when I bought my Nexus I called up and asked if I could switch it to my Nexus One and they switched it.
I am not sure....I think I would go G2. But on a side note do you want to sell your N1? I just need a new motherboard as I broke a few resistors and now my screen shows black, pink, red, and blue only.
I'm "moderator" in an italian forum for N1.
In our forum an user had same problem and he FIXED BY HIMSELF...
if you want I can link you the procedure he used to buy the new screen and to istall it (but make attention: that's in italian lang...)
There are local places that replace the screen for $60-$100. Check craigslists or google search for your local area. Or, replace it yourself.
Actually replacing the screen is easy....really I broke the resistors doing something I knew I shouldn't (using a metal dental spatula to pry plastic parts). Honestly though once you get the plastic off which is not very hard the rest is quite easy.

I sell this tab because I gonna buy xoom to replace this one.
You can call me at (626)242-3035

Briant
Would you take $185 for it? I'm not trying to rip you off its just all the money I have (really) and I've really been wanting to get something to replace a laptop that died. My heart belongs to Android and an entry level tablet would be perfect. If not I understand....

Come on.... I'm just working with what I got...
my g/f broke her hd2. the screen is shattered. quick question.... does any1 know if this is something HTC can fix it and does it matter if it has android running from NAND? i'm hoping to send it to them cuz the tear down of this sucker looks hardcore. i dont think i'd be able to replace it myself.
It will cost a bundle from HTC... Like $200 or so... Not worth it....
my screen shattered and I used a place on Ebay located in Raleigh...
This is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-HD2-Tmobile...995?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c407501b
No relation to them. they did a fantastic job and it was very quick to get back to me plus it was only $89!

Nice find there man. I am bookmarking that site. I might need it one day plus it is cheaper than the 100 bucks T-Mobile would charge me to replace my HD2. And that is because I have insurance on my HD2 with T-mobile.
At the OP if it has Android on it HTC may or may not fix it but they most definitely will charge you for it. I would use the link posted above.

He says he used it for 1 month, like new, no scratches, bought new off amazon. Sent me a picture and it looks good. I dont know though 300 seems too good to be true. Debating if i should go, should i bring a form of protection with me like pepper spray or a gun?
