Your brightness doesnt adjust when u slide your finger across the notification bar? The black part? Left & Right? Do u have auto brightness on? Thats the only way i know how to disable it.

Ya well i noticed it i just turned on auto brightness i shall see if that holds up. If not i still need a solution to have auto brightness off. For now this will work.
I never knew that! I like that feature, now I don't need power control widget cluttering up my screen anymore

Is it possible to remove the brightness sliding feature at the top of the screen? I don't use automatic brightness so the brightness always changes when I slide down. It's very annoying to me. Thanks!

Doesnt seem to happen with custom kernels
I also find this very annoying. I would think there is a service or file we could remove to stop this.
So mixup kernal stops this "feature "?

Oh yes it does.
I noticed this last week. I don't like it. I change my brightness on accident all the time.
Two things regarding brightness I've found in 2.1 and wanting to know if I'm just missing something or what:
No more automatic brightness setting
The maximum brightness setting is about 2x as bright as the maximum setting on 1.6

There is auto brightness. it is done through a widget called power control which lets you control wifi gps etc..on the most right is ascreen brightness selector. 3 options. min auto and max brightness

Yes there is, through the widget with the wifi, gps and the other stuff.
Furthest to the right is a brightness icon that you can press to get auto brightness.

Seriously, why in the world would SE remove a feature!

The middle setting is auto. In fact, Kindle even says 'To enable display brightness, turn off the automatic brightness adjustment in display settings.'
Mine does not ask a thing. Doesn't seem as auto option but a medium setting instead.

I have to say i miss that feature too. A lot. The middle setting is not auto. I downloaded Spareparts and enabled auto brightness but it does not seem to work. Not like 1.6 did anyway.

Jep, same her... ATM I toggle between 1%, 50% and 100% with extended controls...

Hmm...did you actually put it infront of sunlight and check if the brightness automatically changes?
Alright everyone I was wary about the absence of the auto-brightness as well but I just did a test and I can confirm that the middle setting in the brightness setting on the power control widget is for auto-brightness. You can test this too by shining a bright light at the sensor, the screen brightness should INCREASE. Obviously a few of you mistook it for MEDIUM brightness which is understandable as the auto-brightness is between the minimum and maximum brightness under most circumstances, does that make sense?
Testet it with the Widget.
Seems to work. But in my opinion it worked better in 1.6.
Ah, good! Auto brightness is a critical feature IMHO.

Really? I've set the brightness in 2.1 to 100% which is as bright as 1.6 on 50%.

I second that. Much better in 1.6. Here it does not even change. You barely notice it when going from inside to outside etc... I also tried on the Desire of a friend, and same thing. So 1.6 must have been better at that I guess.
Somebody can tell me how to disable the feature of automatic brightness, leaving it at the value I want, independently by the light? sorry if it has already been asked, but with the search function in the threads I can't answer it myself.
Hope somebody will help, because now my battery is drained too fast =(

I use the Brightness Profiles app. It seems to hold the settings after reboots.
Do any of the new ROM's have the Brightness adjustment when you slide on the Notification Bar? It was on Eclair.
Nevermind I found one.
They should all have this feature. Just make sure auto brightness is turned off.

Not to start up a 5 day old thread; but I'm running Quantum Rom v2.0.0 and the slider bar in the notification window isn't there. And; I have the auto brightness off.
In fact; I don't think I've ever had it on any of the roms I've had since we switched to 2.2.

So here's a screenshot, hopefully I am just looking in the wrong place and it ends up I'm a moron.

Hold your thumb anywhere along the black status bar at the top to adjust your brightness. You need to have auto brightness turned off in order for it to work. It used to be that you could slide your finger along the status bar but it hasn't worked for me as of recent but long pressing it does. You don't need the entire notification screen pulled down, just have the status bar showing ie: If you have Launcher Pro hiding the status bar it will not work.
Got it!!
I thought it was going to be an actual slider like the Galaxy TAB has, but that is nice to have that hidden gem.
Thanks for the help!!
This is my most disliked "feature" on android. It is way to easy to inadvertently change the brightness when dragging the slider down. there should be a larger dead band around where your finger starts before the brightness change becomes active because most people do not swipe down perfectly straight every time. I have yet to make it a day without the thing changing brightness by mistake.
In fact as soon as we get the source, I'm going to compile a version with this "feature" removed...
Please remove,lol,thank you in advance

I miss the brightness slider my S4 had in the notification pull-down. Is there a way to add that? I'd rather not install a custom just for that feature.
Thanks.

Hmm. I must be the only one that wants this.
Hi,
Is the auto brightness level customizable? I keep moving the slide down but it keeps moving to almost full brightness.
Thanks
Just click the QS Tile named "Auto Brightness" or something like that

I know how to turn it on. But it keeps the phone at almost max brightness all the time. It didn't use to be like this in Oreo

You can adjust auto brightness level by moving manual level brightness bar.

That was my thinking too, but it doesn't seem to work, after a few seconds the bar goes right were it was before I move it
On the street it's always stuck on max brightness, it doesn't even let me change it to some other value

It's because you're on street, on daylight. You can change brightness but after some time it will go up. If you want set it manually, turn autobrightness of and manually slide the slider
