Disagree with me, if you want, but for a very long time, I found myself with a lack of enthusiasm for HTC's various phones. In-between all the various 'meh' releases, there were some nice phones, but they were always nice for only a few reasons. For example, the Touch HD was nice because it had a large display and supposedly better speakers. The Tough Pro 2 is nice because it's a Touch HD with a keyboard. The HTC Dream was nice because it's the first phone to use something other than Symbian/WinMo/OSX.
Now, however, for the first time in a very long time, an HTC phone came out which I can give more than one or two compliments about. This phone is of course the HTC Leo: http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/htc-leo-spotted-in-the-wild-sports-gargantuan-800-x-480-display/
Let me list all of the great things I personally see about the phone:
1) 4.3in WVGA display (that surpasses even the Toshiba TG01)
2) 1Ghz Snapdragon processor; I don't think much of Qualcomm, but an upgrade is an upgrade
3) 320MB RAM
4) Dual LED flash on 8MP camera
My God, those specs are simply awesome, and best of all, it uses my favorite OS: WinMo. More importantly, the specs is perhaps good enough to facilitate an upgrade to WinMo 7 later (at least I dearly hope so). The only thing that could make this phone better is a QWERTY version and a release date not too far off.
Super specs...
The Leo May NOT Have a Capacitive Screen After All - http://pocketnow.com/rumor/the-leo-may-not-have-a-capacitive-screen-after-all
Resistive or capacitive, not a big deal to me personally. Capacitive is a little better, but resistive is more flexible (gloves & stylus).
That aside, 100% this is the first phone since my Touch Pro to really get me excited, and the first ever non-keyboard WM phone I'll buy. Nice to see an actual device just to prove the doubters wrong (seriously, how the ignored the evidence I don't know). Now we just need to get people to stop referring to it as "Touch Pro 3". It's NOT! Also, for those who haven't noticed, THIS IS NOT A RELEASE DEVICE! You really think HTC will release it as-is with the filler "lorem ipsum" text on the back? Sheesh...
Pretty obvious this device's main job is as a tesbed for WM7, the specs of this and WM7 are almost 100% aligned. HTC might not release the upgrade come the time, but the good folk here cetainly will.

Well, to be honest, I didn't even know the Leo was supposed to have a capacitive screen to begin with. Besides, I really do prefer a resistive screen. The screen is good enough as it is; perhaps it could be a bit better if it were AMOLED, but otherwise, meh.
WOW its a Godzilla
very big device because of the screen
but really killer phone
with the 1024mhz cpu , thats really fast
but its not for me
i like a smaller device
3.6 screen is good for me , touch pro 2 is good but it has a turtle CPU and have a screen gap
im very confused now
i think ill go for samsung omnia 2 or omnia pro
Does it fit in a regular pocket? Is it still a PocketPC

Although you may be disappointed, to me a resistive screen makes me WANT it. I prefer a resistive screen because it can run software that would be untenable on a capacitive screen. So thank you for the good news!

Unlikely, I don't think the CPU is 1024Mhz. More likely than not, it's probably 990-995Mhz and they round it up.

Yes, I don't mind any device so long as it has at least a 3.5in screen. As someone who has been a former user of the HTC Hermes and a current user of the HTC Raphael, I tend to get sick using devices with small screens, and low res.
However, I don't doubt you for thinking of the Omnia II or B7610. I myself was actually planning on buying the B7610.

My friend, you are speaking to someone who use to pocket devices like the HP Jornada 548, Palm TX, Ti-85 calculator, and many, many other similar objects. The HTC Leo will not be a problem.
htc leo is a multi touch screen device
see this video

may be you should check this up..
Isn't multi touch a requirement or goal of wm7?
In any case LEO is attractive to me due to the large screen, my eyes arent as good as they used to be and snapdragon should make it zippy
Is it safe to assume that there is no release date or even any info on what carrier(s) may get it? Sorry for the newbie type question.

So a fraction of a millimeter more in size is considered crossing the line now? Maybe if you balls weren't in a vice grip from wearing those skinny jeans, you may find that they will fit in a pants/shirt pocket just fine.
Crossing the line would be the same group of people who ***** about every slim phones for not having a QWERTY keyboard or running on androids.

Hey Lude,
Why don't you put on some lube and calm your cojones? He had an opinion, and that was it.
This phone is simply just way too big, I'd have to agree. The specs are beastly on this thing, and I personally think even 3.8" on the Touch HD was the ideally perfect size. I have no idea why they'd even want a 4.3".
And personally, unless if this thing is packing a 1850 mAH battery on it, I wouldn't even bother with the phone. 4.3" and a 1Ghz processor + 3G or 4G or what have you. You do the math on how fast before this thing dies in your hand midway through the day. This is assuming that they're using the same old type of LCD-displays that are present in the TouchHD and not some new revolutionary giga-low-powered-screen.
It looks very good on paper, but I'm fairly confident that this phone is going to only attend to a market that is only a fraction of what the TouchHD is focused on now.
Cheers.
It looks nice. And is it the HTC Touch Pro 3? HTC Leo runs on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor?

Yes, the Leo uses the Snapdragon processor, but it is not the Touch Pro 3. As far as I know, HTC's Touch Pro line are all supposed to be QWERTY.
Guess What Comes After the HTC HD2? The HD2 Pro
Hmmmm... Now I want the PRO version..
I guess I will sell my unit when the PRO is available.
more info @ http://pocketnow.com/rumor/guess-what-comes-after-the-htc-hd2-the-hd2-pro
I might be wrong, but I don't think it will happen. The same question was asked when the Touch HD was launched but nothing appeared. First was the Diamond/Pro, then Diamond2/Pro, but no HD/HD pro...
I have serious doubts over the claim too.
HTC are probably quite happy with the staggered releases at the high end with the trio of compact (Diamond), media (HD) and professional w/ keyboard (Pro). I just don't see the demand there for a 2nd line of high end keyboard devices. I doubt HTC do, either.
The article the original poster linked to is pure speculation, but sensible speculation; it's suggesting simply that in 6 months or so there will probably be a replacement model for the Touch Pro2, which will have the same relationship to the HD2 as the Touch Pro2 had to the Touch HD. This seems like a fairly safe bet.
3 months since the original post, has anybody heard anything further on a HD2 Pro or TP3?
This does not likely happen. HTC is developing in a way without qwerty keyboard. Legend, HD Mini, Desire, Incredible. No phone with a physics keyboard at all
This is great news! two power buttons? one at the top, and one at the end call key?
HD2 with twice the thickness? No thanks!
It's obviously fake... +I don't like it..
may be it will be like the new toshiba ko1 4.1 inch screen with snapdragon processor and capastive screen but little more thicker than hd2

all this talk of new phones has made me kind of nolstagic..so I went hunting last night and found my very first XDA....an O2 Orbit.
That was (and perhaps still is) my greatest phone. It never let me down, it had lots of fantastic features (LED indicators you could actually see, a hardware camera button, a battery that lasted 3 days +, great build quality, hardware buttons, plus a trackball and a track 'ring'), it fitted my hand perfectly. Ok, compared to phones nowadays it would be slow...but it sure was a good one when it was released....which is why I've never sold it like I have all my other phones.
now I seem to be going backwards and wanting the old phones to make a comback..if only my next phone was as good to me as the Orbit was....
I like HD2 in almost every aspect. Except that it's identical to my Touch HD in terms of UI (HTC Sense).
So I'm not quite sure if it's a good idea to buy HD2. I'm also interested N900 and Motorola Milestone.
And about pink tint issue, will HTC resolve it?

Isn't the Touch HD also WinMo 6.1 rather than 6.5 on the HD2?

With MIRI's ROm it isn't
to HD2 or HD
Put it this way.
I gave my HD to my girl, and I haven't had the desire to use anything but my HD2 since.
Or put it this way !
Second that! This beast is so fast and smooth that I don't think I'm gonna buy any other phone ever in my lifetime The ROM we are using right now is a stock ROM. Imagine how it's gonna be when the cooked and tweaked ROMs come around. That will be nuclear !

Are you bored that HD2 uses the same OS/UI as the Touch HD (with WM 6.5 ROM)?
HD to HD2
Well,
I have them both side by side at the moment on my desk and just flashed old HD with MIRI rom.
Flashed; the HD is pretty cool but the HD2 beats the pants of it for speed, smoothness and oh the screen. It isn't physically that much bigger or heavier when it's in your hand.
The only thing missing really is the 2nd camera for video calls - but in the year since I had the HD I've only used it twice - and once was just to see it working.
So is it worth it - hell yes.
Just a shame HTC don't upgrade the HD to HD+ (with 6.5 and sense2.5) for those that want the smaller phone but the prettyness of the HD2.
But then - we have the chefs for that. Long live the Chefs.

I have not experience with the HD, but I'm very satisfied with the HD2. It has a few early life-cycle quirks, but nothing in comparison of some of the other "new technology" phones I've had.
I don't think you can go too wrong here unless you're not willing to be a little patient while learning to use the keyboard on a capacitive screen and can live with a wait for a fix on the camera (HW or SW). (That problem is a little more severe than the "take photos of white sheets of paper" someone said earlier, IMO)
/P
Honestly there's really no comparison here; the hd2 is what the touch hd should have been as the former can't even handle htc sense without serious slowdowns. So the answer is hell yeah.

To be honest a lil - but the fluidity, smoothness with the general egonometry of the device is worth it all...
I remenber getting the HD2
Had worked with a HD for 11 months.
HD2 arrives, you unbox it, you look at the screen and think, wow, big !
But then second thoughts came up, the device isn't all
that different, and actually out of the box it is the same
as an upgraded HD.
But, having played for a week, and then picking up old HD again,
only to toss it aside as a legacy, fossil device.
HD2 has no comparison. It's another 11 months of bliss to come, until
Touch HD3 is announced.
Buy the HD2. Do it.
Thanks everybody for your input.
But I'm still concerned about the pink tint issue. It looks quite awful in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584765

This was my original point. If you want to take fantastic digital photo's, don't use a phone camera. Use a proper digital camera. If you want to take quick photo's that you might upload to facebook or twitter or something then use the phone camera and don't worry about tit cos it's really not that bad.

are you stalking me? how did you know about my pink...cough... I mean red MR2?
Dude, take me as a brother.. I had the HD and I feel so sorry i've swaped it.. The HD despite the smaller screen and slower processor, is way more comfortable in hands and looks way way better. If you can live with the wm6.1 or lite wm6.5 , upgrading to HD2 is the worst thing you could do.
I liked the HD2 so much I jumped 6 months early from my HD contract and don't regret it one bit. Excellent speed, layout and screen.
Hello,
I am extremely fascinated with these two new phones by htc but i can't decide which one to buy. I have been watching videos all over the internet and reading the reviews from the MWC and other hands-on from many sites and still i am in dilemma. I LOVE the design of the legend but i want the power of Desire.
The reason i have this thread here is if anyone can tell me what are the differences between the two phones.
First of all i know the differences below, so if they are the ones you know i'd be gratefull if we don't fill the thread with the same ones over and over again.
1) 1Ghz Snapdragon Vs 600mhz MS7227
2) 3.7" Vs 3.2" Screen
3) 576MB Vs 384MB ram
4) Divx out of the box for desire no for legend.
Ok these are the differences i know for sure and i haven't found anything else. I am asking if anyone knows other ones especially if the ones i am gonna mention here are true or just rumors to get the customers buy the desire.
1) I read that the HTC Legend will not get the flashplayer 10.1 like Desire (will it at least have the flash lite like hero ?)
2) The browser used in the desire is the same as in the legend or is it an upgraded and better version of it ???
3) and something unrelated, is the difference in cpu so much of a problem for the legend???
Thanks and i hope someone will give me answers At least until april when i'll buy one of the two!!!
exactly the same boat, want the design of the Legend but with the screen and power of the Desire. Coming from a Touch HD, I don't really want to loose the screen size, think I'm still going for a Legend though, the Desire looks too much like a Touch HD!
Going to go SIM free though this time so I can swap it easily
One more difference between the 2 devices according to this thread is that the Legend will not have live wallpapers like the Desire.
Not much of a deal-breaker for most, I assume.
Regarding Flash 10.1, this article is worth a look.
Regardlesss, I'll be getting one of these for my wife when it releases. She needs a device that can take a beating. I gave her my Touch Diamond a few months ago. It was in near-mint condition at the time but now, the battery cover is scratched and a corner is broken off. I'm hoping the aluminum unibody design can help.
Personally, I'm pretty much set on getting the Desire for the sheer horsepower...
What about video recording mode?
We know the Desire will have HD recording but what about the Legend??
I hope it's not the wacky 320x240 of the Hero

Any links to confirm the HD recording capabilities of the Desire?
This was a rumored feature and ever since the device was announce at MWC, there's been multiple sites saying that it doesn't record video at 720p.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_s8500_wave_and_htc_desire_headed_to_tmobile_soon-news-1461.php
http://www.toptechreviews.net/mobil...ve-and-the-htc-desire-on-its-way-to-t-mobile/
This news source is the only one that lets me keep my hopes alive for 720p recording. But then, this isn't a feature that I'm too concerned about...
yes the 720p video recording doesn't really matters so much for me. as for the live wallpapers neither but it would be a nice touch to have. also i think it WILL have live wallpapers, i read somewhere that it has but even if it doesn't since the gpu is the same as the nexus it won't be an issue to port them to the Legend. my main concerns are for performance especially and the internet stuff.
Another question is if they support wifi routering or at least tethering
The Legend is a sexy piece of hardware on the outside.
I will buy the next version once they upgrade the inside more with a Cortex chip instead of a cheapo one
I was very exited for both the Legend and Desire but yesterday when I red the review of GsmArena about the Amoled screen of the Nexus 1...I think I will take a Hero now
Why? Because they said the Amoled screen of N1 and most probably Legend/Desire is unreadable under direct sunlight
As long as I remember the Hero has been well reviewed about this particular detail which is important for me
Even if there is a lot of disaturation in direct sunlight there is no way you can't use the phone. and are you going to watch a movie or do something which takes time while standing in sunshine ??? i guess not
im so confused about which 1 2 get.
i definately want the HTC Legend as i had a Hero and like staying with my own.
but the power of the Desire is amaizing.
I don't understand why there is ANY debate about this at all. The Desire is better than the Legend in every spec. Infact, the Legend doesn't seem to be a big upgrade over the Hero imo, unless I am missing something?
yeah but desire looks like it was chewed, swallowed and digested compared to the legend...i mean desire is not ugly at all,but legend kicks ass....and umm does any of you guys maybe know the price range for any of those?
well according to clove.uk
HTC Desire = 464euro plus 25euro shipping(cyprus fedex)
HTC Legend = 426euro plus shipping
the gap between them is so little that makes me even more confused!!!
Isn't it too soon to have final prices?
The Desire and Legend will be released in mid-April right?
these prices are for preorder!!!
The design of this baby is so full of win, that I am willing to compromise with the specs.

Hi dear,
I own galaxy s and I like it.
After I saw HTC desire hd, I've changed my mind though.
I'm about to sell my phone and going to get the phone ot desire.
Do you think if I will get desire(not hd), is it too late to get it?
Should I wait for desire hd?
I'm tired of the laggy on galaxy s...
13 days till HD is released, thats nothing honestly.
I've been waiting for months =X
@jorkobe23 The only reason you're considering buying a DHD is because of the lag issues on the SGS? If so, why not wait until the end of the month for the SGS update to 2.2 to see if it fixes the lag issues?
It may save you a lot of money to wait, especially since from your post it seems that other than the lag you're happy with your SGS.
nono,
I love sense ui and I want to have bigger screen.
I heard android froyo is optimized for snappgon cpu not hummingbird.
So many people guess even though froyo will release for galaxy s,
the laggy and gps problem will not be solved.
Idree: Haha,
did you sell your galaxy s?
wait for the DHD, its will be on stock very soon, until the 22th.
dono, for me anyway the SGS is not the real thing, no cm for that device yet, and dono, its made like plastic.

if you want a bigger screen i wouldn't go for the desire because that has a 3.7" screen which is smaller than your current phone, which is 4" the desire hd will have a screen of 4,3"
Desire HD advantages:
- updated graphics GPU (faster 3d games performance)
- bigger screen 4.3 vs 3.7inch
- 8MP camera with real 720p recording vs 5MP and broken 720p
- more RAM and more internal storage (internal is no issue on desire with A2SD+)
- Full aluminum body
- new sense
Desire advantages
- Slimmer, lighter and easier to operate in one hand
- Higher screen density (252dpi vs 233dpi)
- AMOLED or SLCD (Sexier colors and blacks then standard LCD on the HD with better viewing angle)
- semi aluminum frame
- new sense is on the way (either officially or by xda)
i'm personally in love with my dense SLCD screen and slim body, so i wait for the next desire, praying for 4inch version
Haha Thanks for useful information, hamdir.
Hm... I think I should go desire HD cos I heard desire has had multi touch problem, right?

a slight multi touch problem, the desire is dual touch, i'm not facing any issues with games like hero of sparta and emulators
the issue appears with FPS like games for example where you might keep one finger still on the movement buttons and aim with the other
in games like heavy gunner where you have to dual control both left and right guns i faced no issues and i've enjoyed that game
as for the interface no problems, pinch to zoom works perfectly
but yes your right if that is a concern go with the HD (i'm not sure if multi touch is confirmed), the HD is more suited to games anyway because of the much faster GPU
for me i compared the HD2 usage to Desire usage and the size was unfortunatly an issue for me
Ok.. so I'm in the same situation here... and I can't make up my mind between the 2 phones ....
I've read this whole forum and also looked at the 20 best mobile phones at techradar - The original desire is still at number 1.
I like the big screen. I am basically in front of a pc the whole day .. So I can pretty much charge the phone anytime.
So I would like some input from fellow xda users ... which is the best to go for? Desire or Desire HD?

I have a Desire and just got the DHD last week. The DHD doesn't seem like a big enough upgrade over the Desire for me personally and I prefer the more compact size of the desire.
If I didn't already have the Desire, I would be happy with the DHD on it's merits.
@Cranzy: my opinion is that if you don't mind the extra 4mm height and 8mm width, if you don't mind the touch buttons and don't need the optical trackball, if you don't mind the maybe little lower battery life (on other side, on first run i still have 52% battery after nearly 12 hour run, so it looks like a full day with a bit higher usage than usual for me), then go for Desire HD. I got it yesterday, and it's impossible to compare with my old Milestone, the speed is like from a different planet .
Thanks for the info... Think I'm much more leaning towards the Desire HD ...
Ok... the more i read the forum here .. the more I'm thinking Im gonna make the wrong choice by moving to the desire HD and that I should rather be moving to the normal desire ... maybe I should go start reading the normal desire forums ...
Each phone has probably got their own problems...
Will future firmware updates fix most of these little nagging problems ..?
I am upgrading here from HTC diamond .. so both desire or desire HD is a major upgrade ...
Is everybody still saying I should go for the desire HD?
It all depends what you want, but don't forget that graphical performance of HTC Desire is ~50% of the Desire HD or Z.
I really like the big screen and htcsense feature ... i don't mind the battery ... just been reading about the sensor and camera issues ...
Im still leaning towards the Desire HD though
I'm on my second day of my dhd not totally sure if I'm keeping it . Love the screen size and battery life . But its not that much of an upgrade from my desire and I do like the amoled screen better on the desire .

I gathered from the forums that if you are coming from the desire .. the upgrade isn't really worth it... but for me coming from htc diamond ... it will be
To be honest they are both great phones . Very tempted to keep the hd but will live with my desire till something a bit better comes along or my desire goes faulty . But never the less the hd is a class phone if your coming from something totally different .
