Facebook for HTC sense 1.0 Hero - Hero CDMA General

I deleted the Facebook for HTC sense 1.0 APK thinking that it was just the wiget. I tried to down load from the market but it does not show up.
I made backup of it using Titanium but restore option is not there. Contacts will not sync without it.
Anyone know where I can get it.
HTC Hero(Sprint CDMA) just rooted no custom ROM installed.
Much thanks.

ROM it
I'd recommend dropping the Sense. There's a google apps pack you install after CM6 which includes Faceybook app.

I just put CM6 on my Hero this week, can't believe I waited so long. Its like a whole new device, no lag and very usable. I'm not disappointed about missing sprint's newest dialer fix in the least.

If you use a file browser you can browse to the TitaniumBackup folder on your sdcard and find the app you are looking for. Just look for something with facebook because the name will have com.xxxxxfacebook.3df4dsxxxxxx.apk. Make sure it is the .apk one and not the .tar, as the .tar is all the user data. You will need to extract it. It will be easier to extract it to a new folder. Then browse to that folder and inside will be the app. You can then install it. Or you can do it from your computer by pulling /sdcard/TitaniumBackup

Hes not asking for a new rom he is aking for a sence apk. help the original poster out by helping him not trying to push something that they don't want if they wanted CM6 they would have asked for it, not for a sence facebook apk

Same here. It's the best thing you can do for a Hero.
Posted with my Alltel Hero using Android Tapatalk

Did you make a nandroid backup when you rooted?
If so, make a nandroid of your current setup, restore the original backup, pull the apk from there to your desktop, then nandroid restore your "current" setup

unCoRrUpTeD
I checked the backup folder but the only APK was for the facebook app itself. The HTC for Facebook backup only had a TAR file.

I tried putting CM6 on my Hero but it kept telling me something about the incorrect signature or something so I just gave up. no biggie

If you can find the APK that would be great!

No nandroid backup.

Didn't know which one your needed so i posted both that i have

The new version of Facebook installed just fine. when I install the HTC Facebook it just says "Application not installed".
No failure notice or anything. I dont know..... I may just have to deal with out it.

[Q] Android Noob in dire need of assistance!

....title says it all. Well, almost.
I have a D2 running on Froyo(2.2) and I tried to flash my ROM to Epic 2.7. Now I am pretty sure I did it wrong because my system version still says Version.2.2.20A955.Verizon.en.US.
I have my phone rooted. I have Titanium Backup, I have D2 Bootstrapper from Kouish(sp?) and ROM manager.
Unfortunately this is where my brain ends on this. I am sure there are step by step tutorials on how to do what I want because I have looked at them all, I just can't understand it :-(
I would like to think I am a bit smart and on the tech side but this end of the spectrum is still a gray area for me. My phone is now lagging, buggy, and just not working the way I thought it would.
Can anyone please offer some assistance so I can grasp my mind around how to be a part of this awesomeness that custom ROMS bring?
EDIT: I should also add this. I really want a ROM that is going to give my battery life longevity and have my phone running as smooth and quickly as possible without the dangers of overclocking. Any suggestions that can come along with instructions on how to load the ROMS is very welcome!
Thanks!
Did you do a full backup through clockwork before installing this?
Also, when you flashed the new rom, did you mount the system before hand?
Clockwork Recovery yes, mount no. I have no clue how to do that.

Angdroid has Sticky Posts with instructions. Start there.
Install Instructions are pretty much the basics for installing any rom so far.
Before you get to Install Instructions, well you're probably good since you're in the right place (XDA), but you always want to make sure you have Root, latest SuperUser binary files (just open SuperUser it will check itself), and ROM Manager. Titanium Backup is also good to have for many things.
After you read the Install Instructions move on to the Hacking Guide thread. Check the last post for the image in case you want to use different .apk files to modify the ROM in your own way.
I use Root Explorer (from Market) and it uses SU permissions. Copy .apk files to \\system\apps with Read/Write permissions. Press & hold > Permissions > Make it look like the picture from his thread.
So to recover quickly and get Epic running on your D2 - go straight to http://www.droidforums.net/forum/angdroid/87766-install-instrucions.html
You may be able to skip the wipe data and factory reset - but I'd say if you're phone is running slow from the partial install you've described - do it all. Plus it's good practice for restoring the phone however you choose since you'll probably be doing it more and more. Welcome to the fun.
SWEET!!!! It worked. But now I don't have my contacts saved anymore. Soooooo.....yeah how do I get that info back? lol
...also it saved my Facebook contacts but if I tried to call them it FC back to the home screen. I am running EpicUnleased2.7

Sign into your google account, it should auto sync your contacts.
whenever installing a theme or mod, you will need to mount the system. This will allow you to have read write access, or in other words, allow you to copy files from your SDCARD to your phone.

You'll need to install Backup Assistant if you want it to work the old way. I do not recommend using it for contact sync as google is sufficient.
It's not opening because it was purposefully disabled.
I recommend going to verizonwireless.com, sign in to your account, go to My Contacts and EXPORT them as an outlook csv file. Save it on your computer. Go to gmail.com on your computer and sign in to your gmail. Go to Contacts. Now look for IMPORT Contacts. Choose the csv file you saved from verizonwireless.com. After that, make sure google contacts are set to sync on your phone. Finally, wait a minute or two while they show up.
After they are back on your phone, you can go to Contacts. Press your Menu Key. Choose MORE. IMPORT/EXPORT. EXPORT will save a copy of your contacts to your memory card (it's a csv file that can be used if you ever lose them).

Things that I want to know before I change to CM7

Hi guys, I'm a stock rom user and I've getting bored of my current screen. It looks like stock rom has less themes. And after I've go thru the theme's topic in this forum, CM7 has really attracted me with it's beautiful theme. I would like to change to CM7 and I have few question to ask before I'd really change it =)
- I heard that CM has a bug of, showing all the contacts in numbers instead of name. Is this true? Or has it fixed? Can someone list me the bugs of CM?
- Is it available to use the market app that I'm using now? If i used Mybackup to backup my phone, after I have turn it into CM, can I download back the Mybackup and then restore my things?
- What are the other features can be found on CM7? Can it overclock too?
Please provide me other relavent infos that I need to know before I turning my wildfire into CM7.
Thanks a thousand
OK to answer your question about bugs. I'm on the RC1 and haven't found any! Everything works perfectly! If you find anything let them know and it might be fixed in a nightly.
Yes you can download mybackup and then restore all your apps! I use titanium backup as it has more features but mybackup works just as well.
Other features: Loads!!! Basically everything is configurable!
When you asked if it can overclock, all ROMS can be overclocked, however you must first install an overclock kernal like HCDR.Jacob 4.1 which I use.
Hope I've been of help, if you've now got any more questions stick them below!
Things to know about before changing is that you CAN'T get any HTC apps on it, and that's really it!
Also CM doesn't have an FM radio. Don't know if Jacob will add it in the future.
first of all, thanks to djdevine2 and imlgl for the reply. much appreciated =).
@djdevine2
what do you mean by "Things to know about before changing is that you CAN'T get any HTC apps on it, and that's really it!"? only HTC apps but on the apps on the market right? what is an example of HTC apps? Htc Sense?
titanium backups can backup contacts also? i dont mind about apps, the most important thing for me is my contacts. i couldnt afford to lose any of it.
what do you mean by RC1?
@imlgl
i see no radio huh. but what does that radio worked as? I think it's not referring to the FM AM broadcast radio right?
and yeah if anyone has the full thread of installing CM7 and all the relevent stuffs, please provide me also?
I can't wait to try it out already X).
thank you very much!

Yeah, you can't install HTC apps like the HTC Camera or the HTC FM radio or the sense launcher. No titanium backup doesn't do contacts but when I created contacts I created them on google so I just log in and they're downloaded straight away.
RC1 is the best version of CM7 at the moment in terms of things working.
Answering your question to @IMLGL by radio they mean the FM radio, it will NOT work in CM7 but you can download apps that let you stream it so it's not much of a problem!
Are you rooted? I can guide you to it if you need it or I can go straight to CM7!
I'm sure you'll like CM7!
CM7 is pretty good.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Ummm Titanium Backup does do contacts. And SMS, and Calendar, etc, but it probably wont work as its moving from HTC to AOSP ROM.
Cyanogenmod.com has a wiki that details the install process, and also their own forum.
I have found a few bugs, mostly minor though and safely ignored. One that comes to mind is that when trackball centre is assigned to screen-on, it sometimes does nothing. CM7 is freakin' awesome, and so fast. Gameboid runs full speed when holding down screen unlike other rom's. And gingerbread is such an improvement! I especially love the customization in the Notifications button widget... best access to music controls when in another app!
Edit: just do a nandroid backup before flashing a new ROM. If the new one doesn't work out, restore nandroid and no harm done

My nandroid bootlooped once, that was fun =D
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Could you elaborate on that? I.e. how you overcame it, and what you did wrong? It's not very nice trying to scare people for no reason. I have never had a nandroid restore cause a bootloop.
Hahaha i'm not trying to scare them, it just happened. I don't know why :S, after formatting my sd card, repartitioning it and putting everything back, it was all fine. it happened when i tried to upgrade wildpuzzle, LOL.
Well yes, you should always format the swap partition (if you have one) and also do a full wipe/factory reset to erase the .android_secure folder before restoring from a nandroid backup (all under Clockworkmod). Recovery is known to be quite buggy on the Wildfire, though it's mainly with the ADB server.
@djdevine2
hey there. couldnt install htc camera, but there are others camera apps on market right?
maybe you can list me a list of apps that i should get after i change to CM7 TONIGHT<< .
my phone is rooted! android 2.2 rooted. so how do i start now?
@jonusc
hey there. =). so titanium backup is out, and then does nandroid backup contacts too? i've used mybackup and it worked quite well. so if no other suitable backup apps i guess i will just stick to it?
@kevin2516
huh huh that will encounter errors too? how often does that happen on people who did the same thing like you?
It was a rare occurrence, only happened like once or twice. But it really doesn't bother me since i'm used to flashing and restoring apps with titanium backup only takes like 20-30min. (i don't have over 100 billion apps i want) ;D

I can't tell you what apps you'll like or find useful! But I like overclock widget for overclocking and LCD density is quite cool!
I have bought MyBackup Pro, I may try it. I had a problem with TB, I backed up everything in CM7 and reinstalled fresh, but it does not restore Widgets for ADWLauncher properly
Nandroid is very different to MyBackup/TB. It takes a complete 1:1 image of your phone. Yes it does do contacts, but you cannot restore those contacts individually - you use nandroid as a complete ROM restore. Before you edit your firmware, Nandroid is used as a backup incase you want to revert. It has no use for migrating across rom's, but is the best and only way for an exact entire backup.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
actually i've found the best way to backup contacts!
just go into the phone/contacts there, press menu, export to sd card and thats done! done perfectly!
and for notes backup, i suggest you all to use OnePunchNotes. It can backup either automatically or manually, then restore it even with password. This is the best notes app that I've found so far.
for the apps i dont really care i can download it again =).
Im in CM7 now, the GUI is awesome!!!!!!! makes my phone so fresh
but just one problem, sometimes the apps will get force closed and hang, anyone knows why?
p/s: the kernal for overclock is same as stock rom? what what jacob?
Force close AND hang? They are both completely different things. Which one is it? I get no FC's, if you do try a permissions repair in ROM manager.
If you mean hanging, yes I get this too but only within first few minutes of booting up. Just press Wait and let it finish, pressing Close will make it take even longer to load. Remember that this is RC, it is still in testing stages, so there's nothing you can do except wait for a new version.
Yes, Jacob's HDCR kernel is already in CM7. It is probably best to stick with it too instead of flashing the generic one.
Under performance settings, using a 32mb heap and enabling JIT may help with hanging. Also, switching off dithering definitely helps reduce hanging. It also seems to make my emulators faster
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
so means that i can directly install SetCPU into it right? I see.
And 1 more thing, the video keeps hang, do you know why? When i start play the video then after 3 secs it hanged =(
I don't know for sure cause I don't have a Wildfire myself, but in cm7 you can change the CPU speed in Settings - CyanogenMod settings - Performance - CPU settings
it force closed =(

How-To Reinstall Your Sprint Visual VM under CM7!!!

Finally!!! A solution that worked!!!
I DO NOT CLAIM CREDIT. I'M PROVIDING THIS FOR THE GOOD OF THE FORUM (Original post found here)
Download the Sprint VVM 5.1.0.48 Titanium Backup zip: Download attached below
Extract the Sprint VVM 5.1.0.48 Titanium Backup zip to the root of the SD card.
Download & install Titanium Backup from the Market.
Launch Titanium Backup and make sure Sprint VVM is removed (if not, use Titanium Backup to remove it).
Install the Sprint VVM (/sdcard/sprint_vvm_5.1.0.48.apk).
Launch Titanium Backup, select Sprint VVM, select Restore and select Data Only.
NOTE: There is App+Data but it doesn't work.
Launch the Sprint VVM and "Compose" a message to yourself. It will test send and receive functions of Sprint VVM.
Enjoy and report back to the XDA thread with your results.
NOTE: If the above steps do not work, try manually placing the contents of the folder (titaniumbackup) into the preexisting titanium backup folder, i.e. install the APK as instructed, but also extracting the three files within the contained folder into your titanium backup folder.
I can verify and confirm that Sprint VVM (SVVM) works under CM7 Nightly 12 with the stock kernel, using the above method.
NB: On receipt of new voicemail, a text from "9016" will be sent to your phone. I'm using the basic CM7 MMS app and haven't figured out how to stop these notification texts, but that's a minor annoyance to have SVVM back!
Holy crap - thanks! I have seen this solution before, but no one posted a backup file with it. You fixed my voicemail for the first time since I flashed the first unofficial cm7.
Thanks bro
This worked perfectly. Thank you!
Sweet! This works!
Thanks so much!

I've tried a number of versions of the VVM app without success but I'll give this one a whirl.
Thanks!!! : )

Ditto! I have tried various other techniques and this finally worked!
Would be nice if this could somehow be packaged into a single APK though. Anyone know how to do that?
it took me few times to figure out the direction since i already had titanium and i just switched to a new sd card
But, its working Thanks
Sprint vvm has always worked with cm but it is the annoying texts you get with each voicemail. You can use handcent or chomp sms and blacklist the texts fyi.
Ok so im having a hard time figuring out what im supposed to do. ill just list my steps and yea i would appreciate any help.
1. Downloaded the zip and extracted it on the root of the sd.
2. installed titanium backup
3. through TB I checked to see if there was any copy of sprint_vvm (there wasnt)
4. I found the sprint_vvm.apk and installed it.
- This is where i get lost
5. i go back to TB and look for a restore button. i see the Backup/restore tab so i assume thats
the right place. I find the app in the list but when i select it the only options i have are are to
freeze, un-install, backup, run app, and wipe data.
sorry if this seems like a dumb question but im pretty stumped.
I've seen this reposted so many times, this should be like seriously stickied! Thanks for the info though, I'm sure someone will benefit from a more recent post of this.
When you see those options you listed THATS how you uninstall it. You should first backup vvm in titamium while running a sense rom. Make sure vvm is working, backup, wipe and flash CM then follow dirs

Sprint VVM isnt open source. To avoid being taken to court things like this are left out.
Thank you for including the TB file.. my issue was I could never get TB to show any backed up VVM from a sense rom... and google voice caused a horrible wakelock when I tried using it.
If this works, will be freakin awesome... thanks again.
**edit** I think I'm gonna go ahead and delete the TB folder on my sd card that way this folder will be the only one there. I can create new backups with TB when the time comes.
Handcent can't properly block those 9016 messages I still get the notification, (not sound,) and my home widget shows the message count. The only solution is to view blacklisted items and remove them individually. Apparently it's a known bug on their site.

Yea, it has always done this to me as well. I had the notification for it but couldn't clear it and it still showed on my dockbar counter.
PITA but not as much as getting a TEXT, a notification and an email from google voice to go along with the GV wakelock I had. It is what it is I guess.

I felt like I found heaven once I saw the post and file that I referenced. It was a Godsend because SVVM is actually pretty useful (and it reminds me of the same function on the iPhone -- that was perhaps its best feature, AFAIWC).
It probably should be Sticky-ed.
MODs: how do we get this "stuck" so people can find this solution easily?
Yep, it works!!
I was trying for about an hour tonight to get Sprint Visual Voicemail back up and running on my Evo. Thank you VERY much for the awesome info and download!
I, too, can verify this method worked on my HTC Evo 4G.

[Q] Best Out... ?

I bought a Desire Z about two weeks before the 1.72.405.2 OTA update came along, and I allowed it to update (Yeah I know, this was after all my first Android device).
Anyway, lately my phones been running slowly and apps force closing, so I've decided to downgrade it and root it (psneuter method), and try some different ROM's.
What I was wondering is, what would be the best way without root, to backup as much of my data as possible, apps, sms, files, and also if possible a backup that I can use in case I scew it up, so I can get it back to the way it is now.
I have a copy of:-
RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed
which I believe is the stock ROM for this device, but as far as I know if it goes wrong I'll be unable to flash this as the update won't allow me to flash an earlier version..
Would I be able to mount and then backup the whole phone using adb or any other method.
I've been reading about it for a while now, and while I have lots of bits of information, I've been unable to find a good solution.
Thanks,
...John...

Without root, a good app to backup your other apps is astro file manager, its available free from the market, you just have to hit menu, tools and it'll back up all the apps on your sd card, in terms of files, just make sure their all on your sd card and they'll be fine
Not sure how to back up SmS but i know their are apps out their, a point you may have forgotten is to make sure you back up your contacts as they all get wiped and I made this mistake, the easiest way to do that is to make sure your contacts sync up with your google account so after rooting, you can just sync them back,
Hope i helped!
Use google to remember what apps you've downloaded from market. Once associated, when you flash a new rom, google will automatically redownload all your associated apps. For sms, i suggest you download GoSMS and use their internal backup feature. It will save to sd and be visible to your stock sms app as well on restore.

Ya but too many times google starts restoring apps that I uninstalled months ago. Great idea but bad implementation imo.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Sorry I haven't replied, was in work all day yesterday.
I have Astro File Manager, but I hadn't even considered it, thanks. I have my contacts sync'd with Google, so it seems that as long as I backup my files and sms everything else should be done automatically anyway.
Go SMS seems worth getting anyway, as the bog standard Android messages app is seriously dull. I'll give it a try.
I had wondered about Google Market restoring apps, but I thought it would only reinstall apps that were installed at the last sync.
If you install an app and it screws up your phone, and do a factory reset then Google will just reinstall the app that caused all the problems in the first place.
Definitely a good idea, but needs more work.
Anyway, thanks for all the info, I'll give it try tonight, when I get back from work.
...John...
I find SMS Backup & Restore to be the best app for this purpose and I wouldn't recommend the backup feature from the market, as you said it is likely to give problems.
Without root though, the backup choices are somewhat limited for apps and such.
I've been using Super Manager by gpc. It works pretty good, plus offers a ton of other features that can be used with or without root.
I've backed up what I could, although it's typical that as soon as it's all gone I realised things that I should have wrote down (I had been using the wallet/pocket app and although I backed up all my apps, I'm guesing it won't have backed up any of the passwords, logins, bank details, etc).
Anyway, I've downgraded and successfully rooted my phone (through gfree), I have CID: 11111111 and S-Off, but I haven't installed and ROM's yet as I read somewhere that you are supposed to wipe everything between ROM's, am I wiping the Davlik cache or doing a factory reset (I mean won't the factory reset just reset my stock ROM back to it's original condition).
I'm also wondering about finding custom ROMs, on my dell streak I had installed ROM Manager and could get a list of any that were available.
I first installed ROM Manager and used it to flash recovery, but this time I've installed CWM first, so would it be safe to install ROM Manager now, will it want to flash a recovery over the one I have already.
Or is it not advisable to use ROM Manager, as I have previously heard of a few problems it may cause.
Thanks ...John...
Rom manager shouldn't give any problems, but for custom roms it's best to take a look at the development forum. If you don't like that you can still use the list in rommanager, it might be just me who prefers downloading roms to my pc first.
But before you install any of them I recommend you make a nandroid backup from recovery just to be safe.
I think the issues were that some people, not all, found problems flashing some of the gingerbread roms via Rom manager. Better to save the Rom to SD and then flash it via CWM.
Right I've done a nandroid backup, and I've saved one to another mSD card which I can keep somewhere just in case (probably a bit over cautious, but...).
I thought that by saving apps to an sd card, they would run from the sd when I restarted my phone, even the ones that I had moved previously with the application manager in settings are not seen.
Still reinstalling the ones I want isn't really that bad.
Seriously, somebody needs to sort out the Markets app backups feature, when I was setting up the phone at first, I specifically chose to not automatically sync with Google and that I would do it manually when needed. Then I went in to the market to get a file manager and the download failed, it was only when I looked at what was going on I realised it was already downloading and reinstalling 96 apps. I looked around for a 'cancel all' option and there isn't any, so I had to cancel them all one by one and then uninstall the ones that had managed to install.
A simple checklist to select the apps you want would be great, oh, and a cancel all button would be a bonus.
Anyway, things are not as much fun when they're too easy.
Thanks ...John...

Boost HTC EVo Design 4g and handicapped apps

ok this might be a really stupid question/ theory but...
i just got this phone thanks to my lovely wife who gave it to me for Christmas i am noticing that the htc scene has seriously handicapped the ICS experience in comparison to any other ICS phone out there so the question is after i have rotted it can we just replace the default apps with the standard ICS apps ,dialer,Messages, people, and what ever other apps have been tweaked i would love to get the app drawer back
this phone has the kingdom recovery loaded and it has root access i guess the next logical course would be for me to find a decent rom for it
if anyone has any place for me to read point away or advice i would greatly appericate it
You could get a Cyanogenmod rom, make a back up of all the stock apps to your sdcard (apps like the dialer, contacts, etc.) and then find yourself a good ROM and reinstall those after deleting the ones built into the rom
You can also use Titanium Backup to integrate apps into the rom itself (and back up the apps in the part above) so that they are part of the system and not "user" apps
I think this is what you're trying to do

so were would i find said image then how would li go about extracting the apps has anyone done this
Get Ultimate Backup from the Play Store (the free version) and then open it and backup all the stock apps you want
Then restore your regular backup (or flash the ROM you want if you haven't yet) and get a file manager (like ASTRO)
In the file manager, go to your sdcard and look for a folder that says "App_Manager", thats where Ultimate Backup puts all the .apk's it makes
Then just go through and install all the stock apps (click on them and hit "install"), but before you do this make sure you UNINSTALL the equivalent apps in the ROM you're using (you can do this through Titanium Backup, just select each app you want to delete and hit the "batch uninstall" option)
apps
Okay just to make sure I have the straight
A mango backup my existing ROM with titanium backup which I I have already done so
And then I need to go find a ROM that does not have HTC sense 3.6 in it for my phone which does I have not had any luck in finding installed that ROM backup applications I want from that revert back to my semi-stock ROM mentions uninstall the stock sence And replace them with stock android 3.0.4 apps this it may be so much easier some it is an .apk for this
