I was wondering if i can do the 3.29 update if I am rooted? Or do i have to unroot to do the update.
I have to restore a stock recovery as the update wouldn't apply with ClockworkMod installed. I didn't have to change anything else though and I applied the update OTA (instead of using ClockworkMod to see if the update would work).
I'm rooted with the Unrevoked Forever method. After the update I just reapplied ClockworkMod, reinstalled the Super User application (which was prevented from running after the update of course), and all my root requiring applications were content.

Hi, I am on TF101 .21 at the moment, rooted, custom kernel, OTA rootkeeper installed.
I wonder is that safe to update .24 using the official firmware update? Will I lost my root or custom kernel?
Or do I have to download the file on this page and flash it?

Thanks

Download the file at the link. Since you are running a custom kernel I am going to assume you have a custom recovery installed which won't allow you to properly flash the OTA, and by that I mean it will just error out.
1-Use OTA rootkeeper to verify that root is saved
2-Update with .24
3-After upgrade, use OTA rootkeeper to restore root

He has a custom recovery therefore doing it this way will just result in failure, please just do it how I said, I did it that way and had no trouble what so ever.

Thanks, I downloaded from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1627301, no kernel version and I flash that zip file from CWM upgrade to .24.
I use rootkeeper to restore my root, everything works well. Thanks guys
That's what I did and it worked
Glad to hear OP, don't forget to chime in on the SOD/RR thread after a couple days and let us know how the new update is working for you.
I just got my N7 and will be rooting it. Should I do the OTA update first, then root? Or should I root, then install the update via CWM?
If I do OTA now, then root, will I be on 4.1.1 after the unlock and root?
just update then root, updating doesn't change how root works, and it is a lot easier to update via the OTA than than to flash via CWM

Thanks, updating now.
Yeah just update, then root and all should be good.
I recently read that there is going to be a 4.2.2 update to the Nexus devices.
I was wondering what will happen to my rooted 4.2.1 phone? will it update properly? will I need to root again after the update?
you normally need to re-root after ota unless you have rootkeeper
I add an additional question..
If I have a flashed a new kernel and twrp, do I have to restore to stock and before I can update?
You need stock images for ota so yes, you have to flash stock kernel, recovery and if the kernel meddled with the system files, you need to flash stock system image as well

From 4.2->4.2.1 clockworkmod actually intervened on reboot and did what it had to (with prompts) to maintain recovery and root, first time that has happened for me and I was pleasantly surprised. I was stock + unlock + root, no kernel or other system changes.
I have AOKP now though so I guess I'll just wait for goo to notify me.

The application doesn't support original Superuser and not SuperSU for a very simple reason. The same feature OTA protection feature is already present in SuperSU.
This is about Rootkeeper. I have stock, rooted and SuperSU. Does this mean that I don't need Rootkeeper and if I get the OTA update, I keep root?

On my GNex I have supersu. Just installed 4.2.2 update. I had to reroot by flashing latest supersu thru cwm. The update still over wrote the su file in the xbin folder

Thanks for your reply. So this means that I still have to use Rootkeeper.. or won't it work? Do I have to do it like you did?

Well, as I didn't install Rootkeeper now, I can't say for sure. Before I was able to preserve it. You can simply root again. Doesn't take more than a minute

For the S4, or basically any Samsung device, how can I install an OTA update if it's rooted with Xposed installed?
I have stock rom and stock recovery. Rooted using CF-Autoroot and installed Xposed so I can get OTA updates. After the OTA update is downloaded, installing it fails before the device is even rebooted.
By the way, before applying the update, I unrooted and uninstalled Xposed (but without rebooting first since I didn't want the OTA update to disappear).
Is there any way to solve this?

Excuse me, but there is no difference having xposed for updating.
Its just an app like any other

Actually I think there is. Since it modifies system files/structures, it must be uninstalled before applying OTA updates. At least that is the case with Nexus OTAs since they perform system checks for any changes before proceeding with the update.
I have rooted my G2(D802) in stock rom.
Will I still receive Official OTA update?
1. you will, but the device will refuse to install it because it's rooted
2. you will, the device will install it and your phone will only root to recovery (if you have custom recovery)
those are the only scenarios I know of.

Yes the update can sill show up and after ignoring it a couple of times it will force itself to install and either a)if you have custom recovery you will bootloop and if you were using twrp there is a way to remove update or you will need to go Back to stock, b)if you have modified system, installed xposed or removed bloat it will refuse to install because those are things that can only be done with root and so will give message won't update because it's suspected of rooting and there are ways to make it so that it won't update but I don't remember
