Ok, here's my story.
I currently have a HTC Droid Eris and I am in the need of a new phone. Other people with other Verizon phones get better service up here than I do, the GPS doesn't work, and my phone has broken 5 times with me getting the same replacement phone each time.
I've been researching the Droid X and I've really liked how responsive it was and how it didn't freeze up when switching screens and such. I know that the Droid (the first one) has a good signal up here because my parents had full bars when they came to visit me.
Ideas?

They told me that they don't sell the Droid 1 anymore and I don't want to buy a used one. They offered me a refurbished HTC Diamond for $250 or so which I think is total ****.
U should add a line. U pay a lil more monthly but u get the phone for 200

I always think it's worth it just to shell out the money to buy the phone full price. That way you don't have to worry about a contract, and worst case you always have the option to sell the phone if you needed money/moved/change carriers, and you'd recoup a decent amount of it because you wouldn't have an early termination fee.
The X is a huge step of from the Eris, I'd say go for it.
Agreed

What about the fact that Motorola is coming out with a 2GHz phone this year and that the recommended specs of a phone for gingerbread are 1GHz, 512RAM and something else?
Just found this out.
I say go for a droid incredible not as big a screen but a better phone and this is coming from someone that is carrying a DX

Having the droid X and coming from the eris I would 100% say that it would have been worth it to pay full retail. I added a line so that I could pay 200 now. In the end I will wind up paying full retail but not such an upfront hit.
Get the HTC Incredible. I have the droid x and after all the bs moto has pulled with their handsets released after the OG Droid, if I had known then what I know now I would have gotten the DINC. Of course my opinion is based purely on the ability to hack and customize. For someone wanting an " out of the box" non hackable phone the droid x would be a good choice.

A leaked slide indicates that Verizon is doing away with annual upgrades and NE2 discounts. In short, the only upgrade options for customers that buy a new phone after 16 Jan will be contract pricing after ten months of a one year contract or twenty months of a two year contract. Current customers can still use their available discount after the cutoff, but won't receive any more discounts/early upgrades after that one.

According to OEMs at CES, Honeycomb requires a dual core cpu. One caveat to consider, though, is that as of right now, Honeycomb is a tablet only OS version.
ETA: Disregard my above statement. Google's Dan Morill has confirmed via Twitter that there is, in fact, no minimum cpu requirement.
Sorry to beat a dead horse... Can you translate this into something I'd understand? Basically I'm hearing two year upgrades are staying? Or are leaving? Or early upgrades? So lost

NE2 (New Every 2) only applies to those under $50 crappy flip phones that upgradees can get for free. Doesn't have anything to do with us smartphone owners. What does affect us is that customers used to be able to upgrade from months 13-20 in their contract using the 1-year upgrade price and restart the 2-year contract from that point. They're getting rid of that. You now have to wait at least 20 months for your upgrade.
I'm going to start using 1-year contracts now because of this. The only caveat is the phone is slightly more expensive (incredible was $70 more, not a big deal).
The Thunderbolt is going to be my next phone. The Droid Bionic looked tempting until I saw the Thunderbolt in action and everyone confirmed the Bionic only has 512MB of RAM, while the Thunderbolt has 768MB of RAM. Kind of stupid for Moto to skimp on the RAM when the Atrix (same *exact* phone on AT&T) has 1GB.
Also, AT&T does not have LTE yet. They're pulling a T-Mobile and touting their HSPA+ network as 4G when it's not even close.
Do a search for "CES Incredible HD".
There are a lot of nice new photos and articles out there.
It looks mighty tempting.
I love my Incredible but I really think that will be my next phone.

I wouldn't expect a lot of xda developer support for the charge however. I base this on statements made by the devs and the fact that the SGS2 will be following shortly.

Yeah if this was the SGS2 and it was $300. I would consider THAT a good price.
4G, dual core 1.2Ghz, EVERYTHING ELSE. That'll be the standard of phones to beat for a year.
Yeah with all due respect the Charge pretty much is our SF with 4G. Yeah you get a FFC and a slightly larger screen but not a real upgrade IMO. More power to anyone purchasing this sucker but as for me I'll hold out for a more tangible increase on the specs

I read that the SGS2 will be on at&t not on verizon, if that is true, we only have the option of motorola bionic if we want to buy a dual core phone, and I am not buying motorola, they want to restrict so much what you can do with your phone by encrypting their bootloaders, not a pro-costumer company I would say

$250 through AmazonWireless PreOrder:
http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B004XD1S4M/
I expect the price to fall about $100 over the course of a month after release. I bet you can get it for about $150 a month after release or sooner.
One way to achieve that: Keep an eye on the best deal, if you are eligible for upgrade w/ 2 yr contract discount, then take the best deal to a VZN store and ask them to beat it. If you get a competent sales person, they will find a creative way to beat the price.
I got the Fascinate the first day it came out (unintentionally, I hadn't even heard of it before that day). I looked up prices online, took the best price I could find in and they beat it. My price out the door was a little higher, but with the mail in rebate and the service credits I got on my next months bill: my final price was far less than it would have been any other way at the time.
SGS2 yes, charge no. The name doesn't mean it will get any better support then any of the other samsung phones.

What's next for you guys? DX2? Thunderbolt or Charge? Xperia Play? Discuss.
Bionic/targa
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
Thunderbolt or next HTC device unless the revolution is impressive
Maybe a Charge but leaning towards a Targa/Bionic. The reason I say Charge is because it has great battery life from what I've read. I prefer Moto phones build quality wise.
Beamed from my MB810.
I'm leaning towards an X2 but the lack of LTE may be the killer.
My next phone will be a modern device (front facing camera, dual core, amoled/qHD screen, etc.) with an unlocked bootloader, preferably a four-inch screen, and preferably by HTC.
I haven't had time to look so I don't know the name of this device yet. =P

I know I am going to get some massive hatred for this BUT............ IPHONE 5. I seriously really do like android I have no complaints. Motorola kind of ruined the experience for me, but I was used to using apple software, and I can hack it just as easily has an android phone.
galaxy s 2
im leaning towards the Xperia Play. Ill have 4G eventually with my Xoom so its not vital on my next phone. Plus it appears to come stock with gingerbread and no manufacturer skins or whatever.
Id like to say unlocked bootloader is a must... Those are becoming harder and harder to find hopefully their will be an across the board policy with manufactures to provide u with an unlocked bootloader while refusing a warranty... I thunk id be willing to give up my warranty to have the bootloader unlocked

None of the ones listed, they are not that great. I need a real breakthrough phone in order to spend my $200 and lock me up for another 2 years.
Motorola is screwing the pooch. Bigtime. No LTE on the DX2 and the Bionic has 512MB of RAM. Neither qualifies as a true dual-core top-end phone, the Galaxy S 2 will mop the floor with Motorola if they don't get their **** together, and quickly.
@Owen: I completely agree, I'd thoroughly test my new phone then once I know it's not faulty, I'd totally waive the warranty to get the key to unlock the bootloader.

I am going to get off of Verizon and go to Sprint where the data is truly unlimited and coverage will not be a problem because I live in a very heavily populated area.
And DEFINETLY something with an unlocked bootloader
None of the current line up of phones will make me renew my contract early. I'm pleased enough with my DX to stick with it for a little longer while I wait for a truly "next gen" device in LTE & specs.
One thing for certain is my love for flashing took a major hit once I got the DX. A Nexus 3 on VZW would be what I'd go for first. After that would likely be a return to an HTC handset.
I really like the Droid X form factor, maybe the Droid X 2 or X 3

I've been reading a lot of complaints about the lack of LTE and a Front facing camera on the DX2. While I agree its a bit of an oversight, LTE is not available as widely as 3g currently is. So for many users, this is not an issue - as they simply do not have the LTE coverage to make the jump worthy.
Another item worth noting, is the battery drain of these faster radios (4g/LTE).
I am certainly biased, as I am quite enamored with my current X - even with the locked bootloader and small community. However, I forsee the DX2 being a very solid choice for people that don't care for a front camera and LTE. Especially when they drop the price, or Amazon offers it for 1 cent again.
I have Verizon and will be eligible for an upgrade this time next month. I have the incredible right now but am wondering what I should upgrade to. Are there supposed to be any phones coming with in the next month that will be worth upgrading to? Let me know what you think. Thanks

I wouldn't upgrade to anything that is getting the VZ8 upgrade...Just sayin
Verizon is supposed to, some time this month, get a successor to the Incredible 2, the Incredible 4G or HTC Fireball. Think their version of the One X that would be your best bet
I'm in the same boat as you. There's a few choices coming up, with my opinions alongside of each.
-Moto Droid Fighter - Specs aren't released, but looks like a well built phone. I've never been into moto blur, but I am considering it.
- Samsung Galaxy Journal - Verizon's version of the note. Old hardware in my opinion. The note has been out for a long time internationally.
- HTC Fireball - Rumored to just be a budget relative of the Incredible series. Budget phone is a no go for me. I need top of the line specs. I doubt this will be a One series device.
I'm hoping with all that I have that Verizon decides to go with the Galaxy SIII. Pretty promising to have some great specs like the GSII when it came out. I can't tell you how pissed I'd be if Verizon missed out again... So if I were you, I'd definitely wait a little bit.

I think that you definitely shouldn't rule out the Droid Razr Maxx. It has awesome battery life, is pretty thin and is getting ICS soon, if you care. But you could say that I have a biased opinion.

I'm up too in early May at Verizon, but willing to wait another month or so until the right phone comes out. I need a phone that's at least 5" and has a stylus. That leaves me with zero choices and just one rumor. Yeah my life sucks.
Just don't get a Razr and they do this to you:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDxJoGv3FLA&feature=channel if you use 12GB.
I have the Galaxy Nexus and absolutely love this phone. My first android phone was the nexus one and now this phone. Have found vanilla android the only way to go after playing with friends HTC phones. But then again I love installing custom rom's, maybe that's not as important to you.

Well I need an android device now. Not to thrilled about going with a moto device even if the maxx has great battery life. Nexus just doesnt seem well built. The lg spectrum looks good spec wise. Wondering if I root it to get rid of that terrible lg sw will be ok or should I just get an improved tbolt and go with the rezound. I really want an htc one x but mo timeframe vzw will be getting. You're right! Looks like it is supposed to come out this month.
Verizon's CEO put out a press release specifying that they won't be getting any of the new HTC phones within the foreseeable future.
The Rezound has great development going on with it and is definitely a quality device. If you're getting a phone now it's what I'd recommend. VZ is going Nazi style on their Moto bootloaders so that's definitely something I wouldn't buy myself.
