A rather trivial but annoying problem. Hope someone can help me fix it..
Since returning from my holiday in France (I'm a UK user) my weather update (within the HTC clock widget) no longer updates or displays any weather (it just shows "my location" and nothing else - apart from the time). Any one else had this problem or know how to fix it ?
It worked fine in the UK before going on holiday and it also worked fine in France.
Go into the weather app and refresh?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yeah tried all that, strange thing is the weather app works fine. Its just the weather within the HTC Clock that no longer works. Tried removing the widget and re-adding it, recycling the power on the handset etc.

There is no weather showing? Try re-adding the clock, but choose a city instead of current location, and see what happens.
I have also tried that. Nearest city to me is Brighton, use a city and it just shows the city name apposed to "my location", and no weather.

I've never heard of that happening. The only other thing I can think of is to force close Sense, then restart it. Otherwise it could be a hard reset :/ but I would wait for other opinions.
Hope that helps.
Moving to Themes and Apps. You might get more help in there.
Depending on how much knowledge you have about ADB:
1) Download the Android SDK
2) Extract the .zip to C:\
3) Rename the folder Android
4) Start the SDKsetup.exe
5) Download everything it prompts
(If it doesn't download "Force https.." under Settings).
Make sure the Android folder doesn't have a subfolder.
E.g: When you enter the Android folder, there are all the files.
Run CMD - Type cd C:\Android\tools
Type - adb devices (See your device attached?)
Type - adb remount (Read-write priveliges)
Type - adb pull system/app app
In your Android\tools folder there's now a folder called app:
6) Make a copy of the folder and call it newapp
7) Enter the folder and delete HTCsenseclock.apk (or whatever it's called)
8) Copy and paste this (or any other) HTCsenseclock.apk in the newapp folder
9) Go back to CMD
10) Type - adb push newapp system/app
- - - - - - -
By doing this you're putting a new HTC Sense Clock widget on your phone.
If you don't see your device attached you're missing some drivers. Download HTC Sync.
Trust me, this isn't hard at all. You don't have to be a techie to follow these steps. And who knows, it might fix your problem

For people running WM6.1/6.5, who want to RE-enable the GPS on their Mio P550/Airis, the GPSToday Today-Screen Plugin(0.9.9.8, stable) is the way to go (Downloadable from here ---> http://www.geoterrestrial.com/mobile/downloadplugin.php ) .
DO NOT USE THE FULL-SCREEN APP! Why?
Because after installing the Full-screen app, and then resetting and uninstalling it, via ActiveSync, I installed the plugin, above, and not only did it re-enable the 'lost' icons that the FS version took with it, upon install, but it also works BETTER than the GPS crap that was in the OEM WM5!
Another good thing - for me, anyways - is that it's in English... All of it! Woo-Hoo! (My 6.5 is all in French and it's KILLING me!)
*** As a fore-warning: You have to DISABLE the cool-ass finger-flick capability to see the app... Goto: Settings --> Home --> Elements and UNtick the Windows default, and check all of the other ones... Then, when you go BACK to youe desktop, it'll be there. ***
After you copy it to your 550 (I used A/S), open the .cab with the file manager on the device and it'll do it's thing. You have to get a GPSToday account (free) that they ask for a username, PW and email, which they send the auth code to. Once you put int the code (on the same screen as where you signed up) it'll be active.
It will go through the instructionals (which you can bypass, but I recommend you at LEAST scan over) and then it'll go to the mapping part.
Go outside, click 'More' then 'Quick Fix.' It will enable the GPS (If you've gone into the System settings and allowed the GPS antenna to be automatically enabled - Your current location will be demarcated by a blue dot inside of a red circle.
Careful, though, you'll have to zoom out, a bit, the first time you use it, since it starts at the main office of the company... In southern California, USA.
Initial loading is kinda slow, but once you set your initial location, it's pretty smooth, afterward.
Lastly, users new or current should add the group 'xda-developers' to their watch list (More --> GeoGroups --> Browse Public Groups). This will be a place that we can share locations for S&G.
I know this has been addressed before, but I never saw a fix for it in the Droid X world. Basically, since version 1.3 of the Facebook app and Android 2.x, your contact pictures would not show up in 3rd party apps such as Dialer One, Launcher Pro widgets, and some messaging apps. This is a facebook thing, not Android.
In any case, I've used SyncMyPix for some time, but was tired of having to go manually update the pictures and what not, so I returned to my old home in the Eris forums and did some searching. Zanfur, one of the great devs over there worked out a more permanent fix at the database level. You can see the original thread HERE.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work with Blur, so I had to do a little screwing around with the code to get it to go. I take absolutely zero credit for this. All I did was write a batch file that works with our Blur-enabled phones.
Basically, the script will remove the permissions restrictions on existing contacts and add a trigger to automatically remove them whenever a new contact is added, synced, etc.
WARNING: As of yet, I have had no issues with this, however, you ARE fooling with a database that you SHOULDN'T be playing in. Therefore, make a NAND backup before doing this. I take no responsibility if you screw up your phone.
You must have the Android SDK installed and working for this to work. If you don't have that up and running already, you probably shouldn't be doing this.
Instructions:
1) Unzip the file to the \tools directory of the SDK
2) Open a command prompt and navigate to your tools folder. *see note
3) Type "facebookfix" without the quotes. Note: This will reboot your phone!
4) Wait for your phone to reboot, and enjoy your facebooky goodness.
*Alternatively, you can just doubleclick "facebookfix.bat", but when someone is doing things to my phone, I like to see what's going on.
Another warning: If you are running a ROM without BlurContacts, this will not work. I doubt it will break anything, but it will most likely error out.
Do you happen to have a solution for the opposite?
I hate how FB dominates my phone. I absolutely love an option to choose between the FB photo and a custom photo like I had on my WinMo phone (Touch Pro 2).
It's a Catch 22 with FB. I love having status updates when I get a call and picture updates, but I also don't like how some pictures it misses a face and I see the persons torso... or worse yet a picture of their pets instead of them.

Just open the contact and manually set a picture. It will always override the FB pics.
Only does for other applications, but not for the address book and / or the phone app.

I wrote a little SQL script that will set your contacts to only read pictures from google, but obviously you would need to manually sync up your photos from SyncMyPix or the like. You should still get all your status updates and what-not.
Just hook up to adb and copy and paste these one at a time.
Code:
adb pull /data/data/com.motorola.blur.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db
sqlite3 contacts2.db "UPDATE blur_sources SET picture_source=0 WHERE gams_account_type in ('com.motorola.blur.service.bsutils.MOTHER_USER_CREDS_TYPE'); UPDATE blur_sources SET picture_source=1 WHERE gams_account_type in ('com.google');"
adb push contacts2.db /data/data/com.motorola.blur.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db
adb shell "chmod 777 /data/data/com.motorola.blur.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db"
adb reboot
Should you decide this isn't what you want, you can run it again reversing picture_source=. Should put you back to normal.

Sweet!
You mean copy each line by itself?
A friend told me I could also do this via a terminal app (can't install Android SDK on work laptop, and I'll be out of town until next week).
Yeah, just run one line at a time.
I've tried this like 100 different ways in terminal emulator, but something with permissions seems to be preventing me from editing the database in place, hence pulling it off the phone, modifying it, and sticking it back.
I know there's a thread or two on what's safe to remove but they're not very active nor do they answer my question. Hopefully this will be seen as a valid new topic.
I've gone in through adb and removed/moved to sd most of the apps that I don't wish to have on my phone. There are a few though that still remain and I can't see to figure out what they are called or if they're even in /system/app where I can remove/move them.
Car dock
Clock
Desk clock (do I need them both?)
Desk dock
Latitude
My Account
My Devices
myModes
Places
Screen Share
Setup (swore I removed this and it's still showing up)
Voice dialer
Voice recorder
It occured to me that some of these might be connected to one another or another app. Can anyone confirm?
Also, if anyone knows what any of these are called in /system/app (or maybe in another folder) please let me know.
Thanks!
Car dock - OK
Clock - not sure
Desk clock (do I need them both?) - OK
Desk dock - OK
Latitude - part of Maps, can't remove
My Account - OK
My Devices - OK
myModes - part of Sense? not sure
Places - Part of Maps, can't remove
Screen Share - What's that?
Setup (swore I removed this and it's still showing up)
Voice dialer - OK
Voice recorder - OK
OK means OK to remove
Do yourself a favor and buy Titanium Back-up. It will give you a list of apps and you can "freeze" them (pm disable). Works just as well but is a lot easier.

OK to remove. This is the app that shares with other DLNA devices. I have removed it on mine
screen share's apk has something about twonky in it im sure. since it is just a program for connecting to a twonky media server
EDIT: TwonkyMobile_T-Mobile.apk
Thanks guys. I went ahead and got Titinium and froze em all.
Another day with Android...more questions.
1. Can I stop Facebook birthdays from being placed in my calendar?
2. Can I prevent a contact picture from being replaced by a Facebook picture?
3. Can I store test versions of various Android versions on my SD card by simply renaming each folder to xyzAndroid, abcAndroid, etc and then renaming back to "Android" and running the 2 startup files in the renamed folder?
4. Are all Android settings stored in the Android folder? If I switch between versions, will I have to start from scratch setting things up?
5. Is there a good navigation app that allows for the creation of custom offline maps? In WM I use MapSnap, which allows me to use saved Google maps.
6. When Google maps newest update is released (rumored to have offline saved map capabilities) can it simply be installed to my phone or will the program need to be added to an updated Android version?
7. Is there a way to use synced Outlook Tasks in Android?
And on and on and on.... I'll stop for now.
Thanks in advance.

answer to problem no. 2
go to EDIT in a contact, click on their picture on the top left corner, and select the type of picture you want to use for that particular contact.

Thanks.

I have a question. The queistion is that can the android hotspot built-in feature can be extracted and be put into an apk from the hd2 and install it on the tp2 android?? just a noob question...I'm sorry if this question was asked before...
1. I use pure grid calender ($1.99), allows me to tweak small settings if I want
2. The above method works for me, don't know why it didn't work for you
3. Yes you can put a few android folders in your sd card, just only rename the one you need "Android" and make sure you check the settings in your android dual boot software on windows , if you are using any, because some need you to specify the folder which you want to boot, some just search for Haret, and boot from that folder
4.Yes, all the settings are in the android folder, and copying one build's data img won't work with the other, but use a paid or free software called titanium backup and you can usually get your setting back.
5. There is this modded version of Google maps by brut floating around, search around, allows offline map cache navigation
6. The current offline navigation currently works on Htc sense 2.2 available with the new new desire HD builds. Install one of the desire HD builds, maybe the one by m-deejay, you should get offline navigation

I installed MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4.4_MDJ_S7.6HD and started to play around with it.
2. The correct pictures are showing so far in the new install.
6. Looked at the available mapping apps, Navigation, Maps, and Locations. Don't see that any of them store maps except Locations, which may only have US maps (none of Costa Rica, where I am). Is there somewhere in Navigation or Maps that will allow me to store maps? BTW, is there a way to delete the Locations maps? Lots of space being used.
Thanks.

Turns out I can just uncheck "Facebook" in the Calendar settings. BUT, that brings up another question: Under the settings for Calendar is "PC Sync". What does "PC Sync" sync with??
Thanks.

It's been a long while since I've played with the Nook. Can you update me. Last I looked I had on the todo list:
1) a lightweight email client that only runs when you ask it - is k9mail good enough nowadays?
2) a filemanager. Astro didn't display the filenames in portrait for me last time I checked.
3) Is there any less animated apps that have been found now - like an non animated launcher?
4) got any wallpapers that play nice eink and fit perfectly?
5) what would be a nice way to share files to and from the nook? I remember something for windows that goes via adb allowing a gui to directory browse. needs to be completely lightweight so scp, ftp, dropbox sound like either battery wasting or inconvienient to start and then stop after use. what's your preferred way other than eject the sdcard, samba?

1) I use k9mail and kill it whenever it bothers me using TaskXP
2) 'Es File Exlorer' or 'Rhytm file manager'
3) ReLaunch
https://github.com/yiselieren/ReLaunch/downloads
4) There is a whole thread devoted to wallpapers. Look it up.
5) Don't know about that. I use ADB 'push' and 'pull'
ReLaunch is exactly what we all needed - thanks for letting me know!
