[Q] - Droid X General

hello everyone,
i just got a droid X a few days ago but have yet to activate it. i am currently using a BB storm2 which i'm hoping to ditch in favor of the DX. i wanted to play around with froyo prior to making the switch but the "system update" option is grayed out under settings.
Does anyone know any other way to upgrade my phone to the official froyo release? is there a zip file that i can download to update my phone?
thanks for your time!

The 2.2 update is being pushed out as we speak. Try going to settings, about phone, check for updates. That's how I got it this morning.

The option will stay grayed out until you update. There is an update in the dev section for the official ota though

Do you mean it will stay greyed out until he activates the phone? If so, that's not entirely true. I re-activated my Incredible this morning while I was doing all the sbf fun trying to get the update to load(can't be without a phone if I'm on call), and after the sbf on a fresh un-activated phone, I was able to upgrade to official 2.2 over wi-fi.
The option un-greyed after I signed into GMail, and downloaded some things from the market (whether or not that is relevant, or coincidental I don't know) but you can never have too much information. so you can definately upgrade an unactivated phone.

I have been signed in since i bypassed the activation screen and i have downloaded apps from the market and it's still grayed out....

ok i managed to get it working. after spending countless hours of googling, i found a solution. in order to get the button "un-grayed", i had to enable airplane mode and then while airplane mode was on I went ahead and enabled wifi. i'm currently downloading 2.2!!! thanks guys!

That makes sense, I did have airplane mode turned on so I wouldn't have to turn off the phone to re-activate my other phone.

uk 1.5 update

This morning I just recived the 1.5 update, I am in the uk and am in the durham county Region , after 20 mins of exploring I think it is great. Has any else recived this update in the uk. Ps I am using the onscreenbord for this.post
I'm in Cambridge UK.
Woke up this morning to find update available. Loaded it while i took a shower.
Love it to bits. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Think i will now move over to my G1 permanently instead of my Touch HD. Might even sell the HD and pocket some money too...wow, money in pocket, G1 update..could this be heaven?
The on screen keyboard is what needed the most. I like the new browser icon too, never did like the sort of folder paper thingy before.
Only one minor thing i need now, Bluetooth file send and receive. No big deal though.
A lot of people in the UK have got OS 1.5 (Cupcake) now..
I got my update last night!...
Read the comments on here:

lol, just as i was about to do a manual update, the ota message popped up.
Only problem is there's still stuff missing, like Latitude... again! Oh well, guess we'll wait until next century for the UK to catch up, lol.

Just out of curiosity where any of your phones rooted when you received the notification of the OTA update? I cant seem to find a straight answer on if you can get the update OTA on a rooted phone or not. Currently my phone is rooted however I do want to download 1.5 when its rolled out in the US.
According to the About Phone section in the settings menu im running "kila-user 1.1 PLAT-RC33 126986
ota-rel-key,release-key"
Thanks
butlerguy, if i were you, i would better get JesusFreke's build. The OTA will not give root options as it is based upon the ADP1.5 basic build.
You may even loose root altogether, then need to downgrade to do the process again....
Well im not really too concerned with losing root at the moment. I havent found many personal uses for root yet other then using the openoverclocker app to set the clock speed of the processor which just makes the phone run smoother. From what I understand 1.5 seems to address the laggy issues. Just really need to know if im gonna have to flash back to a tmobile build to be able to get the update or not.
I like the upgrades. I don't like the interface at all. Too cld and boring for me. I wouldn't use the on-screen keyboard either (but it would be used by other android phones)..
So yes I will receive the update OTA with a rooted phone? Is what I'm getting out of this?

No. You wont be able to install it, believe me, i've tried.
I'm JF, RC9, FIRMWARE 1.1, RADIO,1.22.14.11
So if you are rooted apart from rc7, then you wont be able to.
If i'm right in saying that? Anyone?

[Q] disabling the ota update to froyo

Hi,
I travel a lot and do not want to do this froyo update on my vibrant for 2-3 months. T-mobile's answer is to "keep hitting postpone every day". It appears there is no way to actually disable the update other than to keep postponing it. I rooted my phone to see if I could stop the ota update.
I found a few things:
1) /system/etc/cacert.txt has t-mobile as a global CA. removing this breaks lots of the stock apps. Does this mean t-mobile is doing man-in-the-middle on all ssl connections? If so, horrid. However, it doesn't stop the ota update.
2) I see a blue and red double arrow in my notification bar stating the update is pending, but nothing in "ps" output that indicates a running application for it.
3) pulling the tmobile sim card and either leaving it out or putting in another sim card (from say etisalat) doesn't stop the update notification. This could mean the update is already on my phone, i just have to find it and delete it.
Thoughts?
The update you are getting notification for is not froyo. Also, there is a 50/50 chance that it will semi brick your phone. Good part is the update will unlock your hardware for download mode and recovery mode.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
it seems a double-restart with sim removed means the "DM service" doesn't start, so I don't get the update notifications anymore.
Why wouldn't you want the update? You are doing yourself a disservice.

The main reason is I'm traveling for the next 2-3 months, and cannot afford to have the phone broken.
I'd like to wait to see what others experience, and possibly wait for a changelog to appear so I can see what's changed between versions.
There have been many threads about the experience and the changelog has been posted. Most of the changes are very positive including reducing the lag on the device and fixing the GPS.
Just search around a little bit and you will find everything you need. If you still have questions, let me know.

There is no MIM on SSL connections. That is the certificate that the stock apps are signed with.

Hi,
My best guess, and I suggested this in another thread about disabling the update, is to go into /system/app and rename wssyncmldm.apk and wssyncmlnps.apk both to .bak, then reboot into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, fix permissions, and reboot.
hope it helps, cheers, =)
I found out 2 things:
1) /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip will disable the update, because the ssl cert check fails.
2) DO NOT rename /system/etc/security/cacerts.bks (the cert keystore) or the system won't boot. I apparently pushed a bad cert keystore to the device and well, soft-bricked it. Everything just goes bad from there.
Everything was so simple with the nexus one. I lost my nexus one when it fell out of my pocket on the escalators at Victoria Peak in Hong Kong. Let me tell you, the nexus one won't survive a 5 story fall onto marble floors.
I was running bionix1.7 when the update came out and never saw a notification for it. Just run a custom rom and it'll probably sidesteap the update and improve the overall quality of your phone.

I ended up following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798125 and doing the update myself and keeping root. I uninstalled all the crap tmobile and samsung install to stalk and lie to me. This phone is the new Dell computer, loaded with crap and no clean OS to install for yourself.

OTA question

sorry for starting a new thread on this. but i tried reading all OTA threads and still confuse
so the new update is the gingerbread? i thought ginger bread is 2.3 ?
also besides wifi calling and tethering, what else is added after the update?
thank you
again, sorry for my noobness
Gingerbread hasn't been released yet. It was rumored to be release with the nexus "n" from samsung. This update included a new radio for better connection, wifi calling, wifi tethering, and a couple of bugs such as no lock screen noise.

You could 'try' going to your phones dialpad and entering *#*#2432546#*#* and see if it offers it again, or shows up under about phone - system updates.
If not, then you may want to install it manually. There are plenty of good instructions all over this board and the web on how to do that.

What exactly does putting that in the dial pad do? My update also disappeared and when I click those numbers it says Checkin succeeded. I go to phone and system updates and it says my phone is up to date -_-
I noticed when I check under build number it says 1.19.531.1
Should I just try to do a manual update?

Yeah if the checkin doesn't work then do the manual update.
The checkin basically asks Google servers if there are any updates pending for your phone. But they set lists and if you are not on it at the time it won't offer the update.
I did the manual update and it worked just fine. Was easy and didn't take long. Just make sure not to mess with your phone while it is updating. Some people see the green update screen and pull battery after a few mins.

Not helpful, but I still haven't gotten the update. Even connected my phone to the LG PC Suite hoping to get it. Apparently TMobile just likes you more
It adds one new feature of...
- T-Mobile Free Inflight Texting support
Has the following fixes/enhancements....
- Bluetooth connectivity improvements
- Wi-Fi connectivity improvements
- UI improvements for T-Mobile Free Inflight Texting suport
You are lucky you got the update. I been trying for it all day. I even tried to manually update it with the LG Update Tool and it still says my software is up to date, but it is D85110m. I really want D85110r because I am taking a flight Thursday morning and really want to try it out.

You can usually force the update notification by clearing data and force stopping google services framework. Youll probably have to do it a few times or more but it has always worked in the past. Im skipping this update as it also blocks purple drake root.
Updating a rooted phone?
So I rooted my phone the day I got it. And I really want to try this update because of all the wifi issues I have been having.
Will I need to unroot my phone to do any updates? If not, then will updating unroot my phone? If it won't then awesome, I will find a way to apply it since the update isn't available in the update tool yet (but it is from http://lg-firmware-rom.com).
Thanks!
Stay away from D85110R... Patched the vulnerability for stump root app...

You might have to do it A LOT.. May even have to reboot too. On my G2 it took forever to get it to work. After you clear data in gs framework are you going back to update center and making it recheck update?? You need to.. There should be a date ending in 1969 as the last update check after clearing data

It never shows that date just the most recent time. I've tried that a lot... 30 minutes of doing the clear cache/data then force stop then clear the cache/data in the update center as well. along with reboots. I may try doing a factory reset.
I am not sure if it matters but I have net10 for service and also the phone is encrypted.

I know this is a n00b question but, I haven't messed with radios since way back on my HTC TP.
I'm currently running Bliss KK.
Can I flash the radio by itself?
Also
Will I see any improvements in signal, speed, or anything else?

Yes, the radio can be flashed by itself in recovery, All 3 the biggest improvement I've seen is signal strength. With the last couple radio's I was seeing a lot of random signal drops service would cut out then cut back in for a split second this happened several times a day.

Since this update, I get no cell reception. It's fine when it first boots, then 4g flashes on and nearly instantly it drops to disconnected.
I've tried safe mode, thinking it was that. Nope.
Uninstalled digits. Nope.
Signed in via multi-line settings. Nope.
Watch (Zte ZW10) connected or not makes no difference.
Anyone else? Any ideas short of hard reset?
If it was a simpler process and wasn't risking tripping anything then yeah its good to try but lets not forget this version was never meant to be in the hands of consumers. Be wise stay official till the official OTA comes out! And since were on a new baseband whats to say you can even force the update now?

I was able to get my reception back by clearing the cache partition (!!) and disabling wifi calling (the latter may not have been relevant, in fact -- I can enable it now, though).
Nooooo I updated to this version. Can I still root?
Looks like you can't. I tried it and you get stuck in a bootloop.
