Galaxy S pro - Galaxy S I9000 General

With everyone else doing it does anyone know if Samsung a planning a upgraded S with a physical keyboard?

Ever heard of Epic 4g? If you're asking about a gsm version, there has been no news about it and I highly doubt they will make one.

like the Sprint version of Galaxy code named Epic 4G ?

Now that is a shame that would be a killer if it was 3G. Wonder why they do this CDMA only thing.

In my opinion the phone's screen is big enough to make a physical keyboard pointless. Typing on it is quite easy in landscape due to the size of the buttons.
On a smaller phone a keyboard is great but it's just not worth the added bulk here. I liked the idea of having something like the Epic 4G at first until I had my SGS for a while, now I feel no need for a physical keyboard.
On my old Nokia 5800 it was a different story, that screen was too small for me to type comfortably.
Look at pictures of the Epic 4G compared to the SGS and imagine carrying that in your pocket

the SGS is great!
but i'd still would like to have a hardware keyboard for many apps.... specially GAMES
otherwise there is no real need of a hardware keyboard
as everything works great without it

The need for a hardware keyboard.
I use my phone as a work tool as well so here are a few reasons.
Editing documents (Yes you can do this with the screen but it is far easier with a keyboard as you can see the whole screen/page)
Writing notes. (as above)
Using text boxes on web sites. (far easier as you can see and choose each box without having to scroll the small slot to get to each)
Emails and longer texts.
Much easier for cut and paste
I could go on but you get the idea.
BTW what happened to that auto correcting screen keyboard or was that just a fake?

um, that would be a big fat no. Sprint uses CDMA, like Verizon. 2g/3g/4g - it's all CDMA with Sprint.

I would buy it! I need it for NETHACK! yes. the game. but its too late right now as i'm locked in a 2 year contract. Next Time round i would definately get Keyboard if the machine at the time had it, No idea what machine will be around as 2 years is a LONG way away in phone/computer land

An interface that let you clip on a keyboard for typing or a joypad for games, or whatever else for whatever purpose would be nice. You can add things with bluetooth of course but they have to be held, carried, charged separately etc.

Why not have a second capacitive laminate type glass under the main screen that could be slid out and act as a keypad. It would add very little weight and surely must be engineer-able.

you know you can simply use any Bluetooth keyboard for that purpose eh?
it's been confirmed Froyo comes with HID devices to support mouse and keyboard via BT

i was thinking about the same thing the old Palm Treo 3 fold super thin keyboard, forgot the model #
they don't make it anymore, it's even hard to hunt on ebay
at first i was thinking about using the lazer projected keyboard, but that one although cool, it sucks if as you can't use it in public places say like in a Bus or Subway, even on a Taxi cab
the foldable one works anywhere as long as you can put it on your laps

I tried Resco Recorder, simply put, does not work.
I tried Vito Audio Notes, its also not working.
Any news on this? I am desperately in need of this to record argue converstation with gf because she likes to turn things around.
No possibility of recording calls on HTC devices simply because of legal issues they wanted to restrict it by making the drivers route the calls not through the OS and that's the main reason for not able to have an auto-answering machine software also.
I love Symbian for this reason alone.
Regards,
Carty..
Get a new g/f dude but if you really think a recorder will solve the problem,it may be time to get a new you...lol. just kidding dude and good luck
I loved being able to record convos on my Treo 755p. I would be going back to it but I like GPS on the mogul too much.
Sounds like you need a saner girlfriend and not spy software
I need this for everytime sprint says "Sure are our service is the best".

Don’t worry as soon as we understand any female SHE WILL MORPH AGAIN !!
4th and 20 from your own 5........PUNT!!!
I don't think it is a legal issue as someone posted. Many states allow you to record calls as long as at least 1 member of the party is aware, some states require more than 1.
I know my last PPCPE the wizard allowed me to record calls. Recording calls is not only for spying. I used mine alot when someone was giving me a phone number and I didn't want to go through the whole crap of opening the notepad, selecting free text etc.
It just seems the Mogul overall has been a dissapointment with me. I was HTC's biggest fan when the produced the first XDA for T-Mo with a 3.5" screen
RANT...
Talking about 3.5" screens what happened to them. I've literally stopped using all office mobile apps ever since they shrunk the screen down to 2.4 Excel Mobile is a pain. Pwoerpoint is manageable and Word...Well word mobil is only realistic with a device with a keyboard. I loved using transcriber but there is so little room to write on the 2.4" screen.
Are there any rumours of any 3.5" PPCPE in the works?

I think all the 3.5's are at the end of ropes and in the water as they make great boat anchors LOL. these phones are big enough but if they could keep em small like this then that would be cool.

The only reason yu think the 3.5" were big is because you've become accustomed to the 2.4".
After the death of the handheld PC in the late '90's and bisth of the PPC. People couldn't belive that PPC's could be as small with their 4" screens. Then the 3.5" came and we were like wow, they shrunk it even more.
I personally think the reason HTC ditched the 3.5" was because PPC's had been regarded as business computers and in order to gain or expand their market niche they brought them down to the siz of cell phones.
Apple has brought the 'BIG' screen back with the iPhone. Since they seem to set fashion trends I'm hopefull.

GrandCentral
One way is to use GrandCentral. You press 4 during the call. May not work well for an angry gf though because it announces that it is being recorded. You'll also have a new phone number. I have my grandcentral line forwarded to my mogul. Lots of features. I know this probably won't work for you but it is the only think I know of for recording that works well.

Thanks for all the "trying" to help guys. I really need this because gf keep changing her mind and story. I need something to show her that.."this is what you said 5 mins ago".....I am going nuts with this. And you know that girls also like to turn story around and make it as if it is your fault. Well need to record those too to study the psychology behind it.
I really like my mogul (had it about 2 weeks now) but the fact of the matter is I can barely read the screen! I put it on largest text size, and that works for some things, but not for many others. Everyone is not 21 years old! Time for designers to realize that.

why do i waste my time taking apart my htc (g1 latest) devices in order to stop them creaking when i type messages on keyboard? or try and get the movable screen level when shut instead of wobbling (and creaking) on it's axis pin?

Lol well i have my doubts then something restores my faith in it. I just used mikey's tutorial sticky on encoding video's and after doing it and watching lord of war and the transformers on this beautiful phone my faith in the future of the g1 is once again restored!!!
Just wondering what all the hype about root is because I have no idea what I can do with it even if i had it.
Semi-interesting Android phone (not G1)
This is a little off-topic, but it might be of some interest to Android aficionados.
http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/android-powered-kogan-agora-pro-mobile-phone/
Kogan, an Australian company, is scheduled to release the first Android phone for domestic and worldwide shipping in January. Its form factor is something like an HTC Excalibur (T-Mobile Dash) or a Blackberry Curve running Android. But the price is the best point. The "Agora Pro" version with GPS and wi-fi will sell for AU$399 and the leaner "Agora" for only AU$299. Using Handy Calc, that comes to about US$260 (£175/205€) for the pro and US$195 (£130/155€) for the plain version.
Pros (IMHO):
Cheap
Familiar smartphone form factor with no moving parts
256MB on-board memory, 128MB flash, plus SD-card slot
624MHz processor
1300mAh battery
3G worldphone for everything but T-Mobile USA's 3G
Will work with AT&T 3G
Cons (IMHO):
Smallish resistive touchscreen
No 1700MHz band for 3G on T-Mobile in the US
Uses a joystick-like pointer instead of a more ergonomic d-pad
Same OS limitations as the G1 (bluetooth, etc.)
At least it looks more legit than the G2 phone that one company said was coming out LOL
I wonder... The phone looks alot like BlackJack III
, would it be possible to flash WinMo to the Kogan....
I like it I miss the candybar layout- a sliding keyboard that squeaks vs. no moving parts for me is a no brainer (actually the setup on the new blackberry is intriguing as well) It would be nice if the specs on the internal memory would start increasing, seeing as how cheap memory seems to be getting lately. If it worked on tmo's 3g, I would be all over it.

Could anyone point me to the right direction of this all > What are Root, RC8, RC29 and RC30 etc. Is there a starting point on this forum about the phone, about installing apps, from market and pc (pc > dont think this is possible yet?). I was under the impression the G1 was as open as can be. Then what's the point of jailbreaking. Does the over the air update effect a G1 in The Netherlands? I've read alot, but I can't put the pieces together/in the right order, because I didn't start from the beginning. Thank you in advance.
I live in The Netherlands and we have 240 Volts coming out if the walls. In the US this is 110V if I'm correct. Is it possible to use another HTC charger bought in The Netherlands to charge the phone?
Finally got my screen to stop squeaking...
the easy way....
(this is actually a friends G1, he wont tell me how it happened, but I am pretty sure it was thrown.)

1) Go to the Developers sub-forum for the RCxx threads (more detail there than you will probably want initially, then not enough detail as you hack-away!)
2) installing apps are phone -> market or internet at the moment. I think there is a way to install from the SD card (which means PC -> SD) but I personally have not explored that method yet.
3) it is very open and will be more open in the future, this is still a "baby" phone/OS. The RC30 OTA was to stop 99% of the people from trashing their phones by mistake thereby reducing the calls to customer service. On the other hand, plain text typing from the keyboad (reboot, etc) wasn't a very good thing. We'll see improvements on this in the future. Personally, I think the term 'jailbreaking' is misapplied here, the iPhone has many more issues. As far as SIM unlocking, that is available free from TMo.
4) the OTA updates will catch up to you in the NL, I am not certain if you will get the UK version or the US version.
5)the US charger is autosensing for line voltage and accepts 110-240V AC, no need to buy another unless you'd prefer a native plug for the wall instead of the US 'spade' type.
Welcome to a great phone.

Connect G1 with USB. If you're missing the USB driver, get it here. Grab a copy of adb from here. Unzip it into the folder with the apks you want to install. Open a console, navigate to the folder with the apks and adb, and type adb install xxx.apk, where xxx is the name of the apk you want to install.
Anyone want to sell a g1 or maybe trade?
Is their anyone out there that would either sell me a g1 at a reasonable price or maybe trade for a hermes plus some cash. The hermes is a cingular 8525, unlocked. I have the charger, headset, usb cable, plus I just bought a new i-mate jasjam case for it. The only thing That is missing is the front camera. If anyone is interested please let me know. I know it is unlikely that it will happen but let me know.

I agree with the hardware button need. But unfortunately newer devices are all going a clean look. I would even go as far as to say iphone-ish (not a fan myself). But after trying the Touch Pro with hardware softkeys and D-Pad I realize I would rather not have them instead of fighting with the touch capabilities on the controls. The d-pad will be sincerely missed for navigating and game play.
Damn I hope a T-Mobile US Wing replacement comes soon.
yeah, i think this all touch screen thing will phase out eventually. I will miss the dpad to. But i think phone makers will bring them back after a while. And i cant wait to get the wing2. But i just got a new wing thanks to my insurance! So right now im good. Tmobile needs to catch up and release some real phones! Windows phone all the way!

I have no reception issues nor 3g issues.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
The only thing about the hardware, is that the radio is where the palm of your hand rests, while holding the phone.
If you already have good coverage in your area, you'll have no further issues.
If your coverage currently sucks, and you drop calls... Well, you really shouldn't be considering adding to your ATT contract anyway.
Just my $.02
I never have any problems. The thing that bugs me most about the nexus one is the dust under the screen. I don't want to send mine in because, I need a phone to use, and know I'll probably get a dusty phone back.

I myself am planning on getting this phone in 46 days (when my contract is up). I can answer this for everybody. Apparently you just have to know where to touch. If you touch the bottom of the "touch buttons", it doesn't register.. however if you touch the top of the button it does work most if not all of the time. Really once you get use to it, its no big deal.
The touch screen was never unresponsive, its just sensitive, this happens when the palm of your hand touches the bottom of the screen while you touch other parts of the screen, after buying a case for my phone, I never had the same problem again.
3G is a big issue with Tmobile users, like myself, my co worker however has ATT and never had problems with his 3G.

I answered that question for you, its fine. You just tap the top of the capacitive button and it works.
If you are coming from another phone with capacitive touch buttons (ie Droid / Milestone), you will be really bothered for about a day while you adapt to the N1's touch buttons. After that, you'll forget about it completely.
For 3G, just try it and see if it works for you. Either return it or sell it - you will definitely find someone willing to take it off of your hands.
+1 true that.

Yes, the capacitive buttons along the bottom of the screen only register touches along the top half of each label. It's strange, but if I had to guess why I would say that during testing Google/HTC found that they were accidentally triggering the buttons while using the trackball and probably moved the input pads up a bit to avoid this (a software change rather than hardware). But that is a complete guess on my part.
As for the 3G issues, the whole thing was blown out of proportion by tech sites looking for page hits.
Go for it! Nexus One rocks! /end shameless fanboy-ism
Just the facts...I did have issues initially, but nothing that a new ROM can't fix. Capacitive screen was overly sensitive, but toned down after flashing CM 5.0.5.3. I'd say it's even more accurate. Physical keyboards are for klutzy neanderthals.
Noticeable speed increase and better memory allocation for app use after flashing. Soft buttons below the screen are only registering on the top half of the icons...not a big deal but I can understand how someone can think there's something wrong with it and press harder (like I did). Oh yeah...no 3G issues here. Downloading 2.8mbps / uploading 1.5mbps on AT&T.
Doesn't take that much effort to fully customize N1 to meet your demands 100%. You can even do CPU-killing processes by running Pandora, Navigation, wifi-tethering, car dock bluetooth (on speakerphone), AND make a phone call....all at the same time. Snapdragon processor kicks a$$!
i like my nexus one but i do have the 3g problem. i live in vegas and while im downtown i get good signal but at my house, like 15mins away from the strip, my signal switches back and forth with EDGE and 3g, my touch pro 2 doesnt do this.

I'm curious to what he answers too. Anyway are you any closer to making a decision on what phone you want?
Originally I searched night and day to find out what the widget was that had the beautiful weather forcast when you turned on the phone. It was the same widget that had the windshield wipers when it was raining outside. Eventually I found my answer, its the htc sense home screen. I looked into htc sense further and I find it to be very ugly. So thats why I'm going with the nexus one over the htc desire, etc. Besides I have the old apk of beautiful widgets before htc told them to take it down (that has the same look and feel as htc sense). I know htc sense can be turned off but I still like the feel of the nexus one over desire and some of these other phones.
Thats my story.
i am pretty sure that i will be getting it but just when i have the money saved up. poor college student ftw haha. almost there though

Dude. Proper punctuation and spelling goes a LONG damn way towards getting your thoughts across coherently.
In any case, why is it so important? I haven't seen anything that uses the whole "crossing your fingers from one screen side to another" anyway. If it's so important, then simply get the Nexus.
Yes, it has multitouch, and as said before it is smooooooth. I also agree in the fact that a few periods and a comma can go a long way.

I agree. I refuse to try to read the same question several times just because someone is too lazy to add punctuation. I'll even go a step further if the person began their sentences with capital letters.
In my opinion anyone that uses "2day" instead of "today" needs to go back to school and do first grade through high school all over again.

I agree with you there as well, My parents are both college professors at UMBC and I'd get smacked if they ever saw my type that way. In my opinion it would take me longer to think about typing a word like that then to just type it the normal way.

It's good to know other people think this way as well.
Well look up the touch sensors in the mytouch slide. If they are the same as the nexus one then that means the mytouch slide got crapped up multi-touch. If they are different, then you have some hope. When the mytouch slide get in stores, just download an app that can help you see multi-touch and decide yourself.
Personally I would choose the Nexus One since the big name devs have the N1 and the N1 is much more powerful (not really, the mytouch slide and the N1 have the same specs but the N1 has a snapdragon. But remember the droid? The droid has a 550 mhz processor but people can overclock it to 1.2~1.4 ghz.)
I would choose the mytouch slide because
1) I can actually afford it (using a discount )
2) Hard Keyboard FTW
3) Has 512 mb of RAM so things are smooth
