Simple Video Recorder app - Android Software Development

Developers.
I'm working on a little project for making a simple app to record video. I'm new to programming and this is above my knowledge base currently. If any of you have an app like this or can send me in the right direction that would be great.
What is needed:
- a button to choose what quality to record in (Low, Medium, High, HD)
- a button to choose where to save the pictures
- a button for start recording/stop
- rest of screen to see what I'm recording
Whatever is made by getting the help from XDA members will stay at this forum/website.
Thanks,
Hans-Erik

PLEASE get it working............ WE NEED IT. If I can hlp, pls let me know.

Windows Mobile Camera in Background

I have been looking for hours on either software or a hack to make the camera(video) stay on when I am on the main screen. In essence have the video record in the background. I have a lot of memory and like to use the video camera for recording conversions and classes, but I would like to be able to have the camera stay on while in other areas of the phone. The camera program will run in the background but it shuts off the record ing once I leave it. Is there software or better yet a registry hack to make it continue recording? I have been searching with no luck. There has to be others out there that want to record without somebody picking up the phone and knowing you are, or simply use other features of the phone while recording.
TY
anyone?
would just like to toss in my +1 for this, i've often wanted to record a lecture, then want to access some information from the Notes on my device.
Me too.. I wanna take videos and make it look like Im just reading a Word file or something.
What about 3rd party software like coolcam?

I know this is a prehistoric thread that I am bumping (almost three years worth) yet this problem is very irritatingly present on my HD2.
THe builtin camera app won't record in background, settings hkcu\software\htc\camera\deactivate to 0 won't change anything, and same doies changing all the relevant values in the registry altogether.
I tried coolcamera, it has a very spartan interface unusable with a purely touchscreen device, I had to popup LMT's controller to navigate and start recording, but when I did the app didn't work anymore.
So my question is the same, is there currently a background video recording app out there? Seems to absurd to me there isn't, and I can't keep my screen always on while recording video from my car windshield; either that or I'd prefer having recording in background while I navigate with GPS...

Anyway, that regards the diamond, another user said he could use camera in background on his tp2, while there is not current solution for the hd2
Someone with solution for hd2 ?

Recording telephone call

I would like to be able to record an telephone call by pushing a softkey.
I have HTC voice recorder installed, but it is not easy to activate recording while in a call.
Also as far as I know, there is only the possibility to program ONE hardwarekey (longpress off hook), and that one is already occupied by another program.
So I wondered whether it is somehow possible to program the softkeys that appear when I am involved in a call?
Or do you know another possiblity to activate call recording simply?
im interested too!
Action Screen
Hi there,
I don't know if this helps ur case but when you use actionscreen you can program your softkeys under the today tab, might be possible te get a record button then, not sure but i thought i mention it mine are set to left Action and right Shutdown, anyway hope this helps..

Can the diamond record both sides of a telephonic call ?
I think no... plz someone can contradicts me ?
However you need Softkey Manager for diamond
It should be invented.
When you record a call using the voice recorder it only records your own voice, but when you put the call on speakerphone it will record both parties. Probably because of the sound from speaker loops back in to the mic.
I'm already searching so long for a good working call recording tool but still no eureka.
can somebody not create a program that will record every phone call, in and out, from both parties, id love to have something like that. much better than the standard.
it's an hardware limitation af all windows mobile based pdas
resco audio recorder can auto record, but the other party voice will be slightly softer
You could also try Vito Audio Notes Touch. It also has an option to record all calls automatically. http://www.iwindowsmobile.com/mobile-audio-recorder.html

Its a hardware limitation of all HTC based Windows mobile based PDAs... Some others can do it but not many. It's enough to drive a user to symbian

I just installed this one.
The loudness of the recording of the other party seems just enough.
I don't want to record all calls.
THe program also offers the possibility to assign actions like 'start recording' to a hardware button. I tried several buttons (off hook, left, action, home), but none of them work, or have already another function, during a call.
A possible option could be to have an extra touch button on the screen when you are involved in a call (just like the button to put a call on hold). But I don't know how that could be done.
ANy ideas?
Today I discovered another unwanted side effect of this recording program.
When I made an phonecaal it appeard that the other party could not hear my voice.
The cause appeared that the recording program was still running in the background. AFter I closed this application the sound was OK again.
On my old nokia phone recording voice calls could be done with one key press
think u can try to turn off recording in background so u can view the recording screen during a caqll n stop the recording. i dont have such issue of others no hearing my voice during the recording
it's strange that such little feature, that so many other phones have had in the past, is so hard to get on an htc device. and funnily enough, i remember reading in manual for the original touch, that before recording a call you have to check whether it's legal and inform the other side... so there's gotta be a way
maybe someone feels like taking a challenge of making a simple app, that would allow you to record the conversations?
the only htc device i ive used that supports recording of both sides is htc startrek
there must be a way to record both sides of a phone call (without a speaker...)
there must be a way to do this, if the audio stream cannot be accessed programatically how do bluetooth headsets work?
i'm sure there would be lots of cool applications for this if someone could work it out, but it never seems to arouse much interest in the techie experts on here when i've mentioned it in the past.
in my very old WM5 smartphone SP5 it can record the call of both sides with a good quality by using this program
(not tested in the diamond try it if you want)
tesing it..
installed it on my diamond - it seems to work - but there is no option to record phone calls...
+ \there is an automates answering machine caleled: "isecretary" - it canrecord incommind phonecalls- maybe they have found a solution??

Video editing software for our Diamond ?

Hi all,
I used to be really enthused by the small video editing app included in my Sony Ericsson fans. It was very useful to edit video, make personal editing etc... to send via MMS. Assembling clips was made easy and intuitive.
I can't find such an app for pocket PC. I stumbled onto http://www.trakax.com/software/mobile. It's a useful editing software with cutting edge graphix, but not free and quite cumbersome to use...
Do you happen to know a complete video editing software for our beloved pocket pc? It SHOULD exist but I could'nt find anything out there...
THX a lot !
I found nothing.. I hope there will be some video editing software some day, i had a sony ericsson phone, and they have this simple video editing software called VideoDJ. So maybe there will be one to ppc too...
I don't know about video editing for PPC (maybe there r some) , but I think You don't need such a program, you can
edit it by using PC (with many video editing programs) and export the file..

New Version of TrakAxPC for VGA devices
Hi Cormac here from TrakAxMobile.
Just a quick note to say we have released a new version of trakAxmobile for VGA devices.
Here is quick list of the improvements we have made.
1) We have improved the search function, allowing you to search your content by day/month/year. You can also highlight a number of days/months or years. This will allow you find the media on your device much quicker.
2) We have also improved the editing. We now decompress the file when you click on the edit button allowing you to access time positions in the file quicker and easier. When editing audio you can just highlight the area you wish to cut on the waveform with your stylus.
3) We now allow you to crop photos and you can add a ken burns effect to photos allowing you to Pan and Zoom into particular areas of the photo.
4) We have added a whole range of new transitions.
5) In the mixing screen, you can now control the tempo of the media by switching the slider function from volume to tempo. The slider now allows to slow down or speed up the clip. This is cool if you want a video clip to play in slow motion or wish to speed it up. The same applies to audio, you can speed it up or slow it down by adjusting the slider.
6) We now also allow you add themes and effects to videos or photos. You can also change the color of the text and add background colors to your credits.
You can check out the new features at our website -
http://www.trakax.com/software/mobile/trakaxmobile_vga_devices/
and there is a 7 day free trial available from the following link.
http://www.trakax.com/software/mobile/trial_version/
Check it out and if you have any question, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards
Cormac
Been using trakAx for a while now - awesome app!!!
Just be patient when its rendering your clips as it can take a while - its got a lot of processing to do.
Output is only 640x480 though I think

Automatic volume control based on ambient noise.

I was cruising the net and found an article on MSDN about someone developing an app (back in 2007) that would automatically adjust the ringer volume based on the ambient noise. If you are at a bar it rings loud, if you are at home sitting on the couch reading it rings quiet. Problem is, she only showed the code and didnt have an actual app, and i dont know how to program. So here is my question, has anyone actually developed an app that would do this for you? Anyone up for a challenge just for something cool to do? Thanks
Here is the link. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163341.aspx
I compiled the application but didn't test it.
seems to work im not sure about its effects on the battery tho
This is super-cool! An even better feature would be for it to automaticaly adjust in-call volume. There was something like this posted before in this forum, of course I can't find it now. :/

works!
suggestions:
- add config to be able to set the interval of the loop.
- create a separate exe that automatically runs, checks the ambient noise, adjusts the volume, and exits, without any window. This will be useful when using a scheduler program.
So do you think it is worth that I take this and develop this further?
yes, sound great, please continue to develop this great app
Thanks
Great
You are the best
Some day you will make our pocket pc to read our mind!!!
Alright then. I am going to setup a project for this and will change the tool to work a bit different.
I will split this tool into two programs. One will be a console application that can be started with parameters and the other will be a UI to change some settings. The console application will allow to run it in a defined interval or one time (for use with other schedulers or tools).
Once I have the first beta ready I am going to start a new thread and will post the link here.
Stay tuned
Sometimes I miss the "Like this" button here ;-) Thanks!
Here is my version:

Please post all feedback and suggestions in the new thread.
I will test it
I will test and I let the feedback.

[APP] rumen's Guitar - WM6 guitar aplication with chords

App name: rumen's Guitar
License: Freeware
System requirements:
OS: WM5 and higher, CF3.5
Hello everyone,
recently I've been searching for a working guitar aplication for WM6 and full touchscreen (like HD2) but I didn't find anythig useful.
So I decide to wrote one by myself. This app is far away from perfect, but I'm new in developing and I will improve it in the future.
I will upload and some videos soon.
For future implementations :
- load text files in that empty text box - for song and lyrics that you can see them during playing;
- increase the quality of sound - it is very poor now;
- multitouch - if it is possible;
- improve speed of playing;
- to put some strings ;
- distosion ......
There is a lot of things that can be done. This is just a start point.
See you soon.
Rumen.
Newer version available: v1.1
New feautures:
1. Strings and some graphic.
2. Text box for lyric and chords with buttons for movement.
3. Load, edit and save txt files.
Newer version available: v1.2
New feautures:
1. Added exit function - File ->Exit
2. Workable link in help menu.
Thanks!!!
Nice app and great job, Rumen! WM 6.x really misses guitar-simulation apps. The only one I've known so far is Iperov's guitar. So, big thanks for you work!
I've been working on guitar app too. Hope to publish it on XDA-developers soon.
As for the version 1.1 of you app:
It would be great if an app didn't stay in memory when it is closed by pressing cross button.

Well, actually this is a WM function - programs are not closed when you press
X button, there are just minimized and stays in memory.
However, I will add an exit function this night
just download it and looking forward to give it a try... 1000 appreciation to rumen...
excellent
Thanks big for the excellent program!
This best that is today. I like a sound and speed of its work.
If you have a possibility to make little changes it would be ingenious!
1. To choose skin for the program (without a text field).
2. Work in the full screen.
3. A sound stop through long pressing strings.
4. Record, listen and save the played melodies. Background playing.
5. Sound change (acoustics, electric, rock, metal).
I will be glad to see your new work.
skin
I offer such skin
love your work... u make my life full of joy....... 1000 appreciations
Thank you for appreciations. Glad that you like this app.
I know that there are a lot of things that can be done.
Will try some of the prepositon soon.
Unfortunally, the time is awlays against us.
QVGA got scrollbars, but works ok.
Olleg1 made good proposals.
Lyrics textbox useless, if you hold PDA as guitar.
Also, "iperov's Pocket Guitar" has open sources which may (or may not) be helpful
editor of chords
Hi, rumen80. With impatience I wait for new versions of your program.
One more offer: add please the editor of chords, with possible preservation in base.
Hands are scratched for test a new skin with the big buttons of chords .
rumen's Guitar to give me pleasures from night game.
That's great.. waited for ages.. SUPPORTING
will be great with distort and much better graphics
